What leveling up these stats does in DragonBall Z Budokai 3?

- I get questions about these stats pretty often, so I decided to do some research and explain everything I found in one video.
To record this video, I literally had to level up multiple characters across all 4 versions of DBZ Budokai 3. So I'm pretty sure of my results.
Also, I changed my intro. Hope you like it.

An actual online budokai 3 with ranked games and such would be great. This game was ahead of its time, same with RE Outbreak
Remaster with new super arcs and Broly?
Outbreak how I miss that game especially file 2. It would be cool if they remake Budokai 3 but I doubt it since we are more likely to get fighter 2
Outbreak has 20 scenarios with voice acting and such, Alysson Court attested to that in an interview.
Capcom being strange little company they are will not do a remaster with all scenarios, new mechanics and so on.
Just like Resident evil 1.5 they have somewhere the game 80% completed, all they need is a small team to finish it an release it as a what if story for a fair price.
They blew it in PS3 and Xbox 360😢

Best part of having the physical version of the game was having the manual, because it's explained what the stats did there :D

If you get the collection which included both the first and the third budokai it explains nothing. Nowhere in the manual does it explain what stats do. For the most part I was able to understand what everything meant. Arts and Ability confused me the most so I looked up what they did. Didn't get many results but the one I did get explained it around the same way as this video.

I used to think "Com" always meant computer. Like if someone played against your character online some how. Those would be the results that they'd get to face. I guess I was ahead of my time tho. Budokai 3 would have made an excellent game to play online with people. This was in 2003 btw haha. 🤣

its literally the AI difficulty setting for the character when the game is controlling it. which when I ran online B3 tournaments it was always maxed out.

@@StotterChannel Some passwords worked, while others didn't. Uub and Omega Shenron's are among the unusable passwords.
Fun fact about the "health" Stat. If you upgrade it to 19 instead of 20 for Saibamen and Cell jr. Is that you will have 6 lives with almost 2 bars of health each instead of 7 lives with 1 bar. So you get a lot more health in the long run and can use that point elsewhere.
At least that's what I remember. Oh my gosh, it's been over a decade since I played this game.

Loved the ki aura design on characters. Felt exclusive with the different forms in the game

@Kazama's Keyblade I read in a forum that it did affect green capsules . Not saying OP is wrong since he plays more than me but I guess that's the case
Ability only affects the yellow capsules, or "Item" ones.
Green capsules can just stack with the other stats tho, like lv20 Def + a lv4 Def-boosting capsule basically means receiving 90% damage less than normal.
@@Dr._Doppietta You alluded to them having different effects on each item.
The only items I ever used was "Centepide Eel Soup" or "Vaccine."
Since their effects are pretty simple, I imagine the Ability skill has no impact on them? Or would there be an additional boost with them?
@@kazamaskeyblade7311 the heart virus probably drain your hp slower but your opponent's hp faster, idk
tbh this game would make an interesting Roguelite with these systems, I imagine there's a lot of items people basically just never get to use, on top of there not really being much incentive to grind up stats besides Attack in the average playthrough of even Z-Difficulty.
Probably too much work to actually realize it though...

Haha, I've played this game since all the way back when it first released and I NEVER understood what com did. I saw a video years ago which explained the other two, but they were vague on com. That's such a useless stat. I used to think it made every cpu aponent you fight harder, but that was wrong. 🤣

Quick note about Arts, that bonus stacks with the bonus from Attack, so it can be worth maxing out both if you want to really cheese your specials.
Seth the programmer with a lvl 1 Goku vs max stats Raditz is the prime example of why stats matter lol
I watched that video and, even with a lv140 Goku, Seth wouldn't be able to beat Z3 Raditz. He just doesn't even know how to play that game.

Crazy how the Com stat was kinda like the Nintendo Amiibos wayyyy before Amiibos were a thing. I remember leveling up my Vegeta and dumping every resource I got into the Attack stat haha fitting. Only ever got him to level 40 or so though. Wish they would bring this to Steam with online play. Or even better, remaster Infinite World instead.

I remember saving loadouts on ps2 memory cards and button-mashing for hours with that thumb-stick with my friends until my thumbs had blood-blisters! So fun when I was 10 - 12 yrs old!

I always thought "com" was the difficulty of the computer you fight in story mode.
Like, the higher you make it, the harder the opponents you fight in Dragon Universe get.

Com sounds like it was pre-amibo smash where someone plays their character with buffs by the computer. Thats kind of cool.
Back in the days, those were the only ways to play "with someone", to a degree.
@@Dr._Doppietta what i wanna know is how people hrind those to max at all. Goku had 10 levels when i was finished playing history and post game doesnt provide enough exp
thats what it was, when I ran player tournaments on gaming forums. used to hold tons of them and simply post the results and give out little signature trophies for winners.
Ofc people just played DU and DA over and over to farm exp and max lv out.
Especially when you get "WE GOT THE POWER!!!!" and Z3 difficulty, each fight will give you 80k/100k base exp. plus all the other bonuses.

I would make the tier list of abilities to rank up like this:
1. Attack. Effectively halves enemy health.
2. HP. You start with 3 health bars. You get 4 at 20 for 7 total.
3. Guard. Doubles your HP bars effectively x2 at max. (But if it keeps getting harder to level, 10 hp and 10 guard gives you the same as about 6.67 health bars. 20 health is 7 health bars. 20 on guard is 6 health bars. 15 on both is 9.6 health bars. 20 on both is 14 health bars.)
4. Ability. Depends on the item but full health from half a senzu is insane. (Downside is taking up slots and needing to acquire items to work, otherwise put this at #1 based on best items.)
5. Arts. 50% more damage is only for skills and you could rank up attack for a better boost in damage overall.
6. Ki. 30% efficiency is cool but it messes with the reading of ki bars and ultimately does nothing if you can't find time to charge because you do no damage and get knocked out.
100. COM. This has no reason to really exist unless you really want to know what it is like to fight Ss4 Gogeta as Hercule with no items after grinding for hours just to lose or make a meme challenge out of it.
Too bad you can't level up everything completely. That always irritated me.
I am going to have to buy another copy of Budokai 3 one of these days lol

Never could figure out arts and ability. I never used items, and noticed the attack difference with "attack" so I just upgraded the top 4 stats first.

Well yeah from the actual game manual explains it it's
Arts - increases the amount of damage your character deals using special attacks
Ability - makes equipped items more effective
Com - this improves how well the computer controls your character when fighting against another opponent from around the world.
Oh and that code it is actually different from the hd collection and the original from the PS2 I've tried it

I'm willing to finally master and play a Budokai game since i never had the chance to get good at it, but i'd like to hear from you: which of the following do you consider worth more to play (gameplay wise) Budokai 3 or Infinite World?
IW is *far* easier to pick up, but B3 has more content.
I'd suggest you to start from IW and the turn back to B3.

If you're the battling CPU on *Z* difficulty while it uses the custom character with the +20 Com stat, does it make it harder or is it exactly the same as a custom character with 0 Com stat? By example

Specifically does the Com stat double the difficulty or not. I can only see the solution being a CPU vs CPU battle and seeing the number of outcomes between them.
It's the COM lv that decides if you're playing on Z. If you set the difficulty to Z, your opponent will always have ALL their stats maxed out, including "Com".
You misunderstood the basic functions and works of this game.
Instead of callikg the stat "ability" they could have just called the star "item" and it would have been a 1000% more clear
Com was the original PSCX2.
As a kid I figured Com was Combo. It would make stuns and such longer or easier to pull off

You need to look up into PCSX2 Wiki suggested settings, update your emulator and plug-ins and, if the problem still persists, go on PCSX2 Forum to seek for help.

Slightly off-topic, but do you know what stat influences the ki aura effect on the character level screen?
I always thought "Ki" would have that effect, so I started maxing out the "Ki" stat to see that effect.
It should be Ki, but now it looks like it isn't Ki anymore.
I wondered the same, but I don't know the answer...
@@Dr._Doppietta I think the aura of Ki increases the more levels you get in general, it is a slow process tho.
Speedrunners of Z3 Increase Ki all the way to 20 and the aura is non existant, so I can guess it must slowly be increasing through level ups.
Hey, any clue if the stats effect the story mode? Because when leveled up Goku and Vegeta after Defeating Super Buu. I got an alternative cutscene where both of them sense a Ki stronger than Buu which one of them have to check it out. And turns out it was Broly. I beat him without a single lost but I unlocked Super Saiyan 4 when having this route in a unknown place and got Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta as well (which it can only be obtained by finding the place where Goku and Vegeta transformed into Super Saiyan 4 before defeating Broly. Otherwise you'll get the Gogeta Vs Gotenks part without progressing to the GT Saga). Does that change the story?
Stats don't change the story, but after beating one's DU, its story will change depending on your actions.
Stats have nothing to do with that.

I know those stats very well I maxed Broly out I can tank super from everybody multiple times that's so bad my friends and cousins didn't want to play if I pick Broly
there are totally 140 levels but impossible to go higher than 99 lv the Experience value not pass 9,999,999 so the important stats make it full are :
Health 20 lv.
Ki 19 lv.
Attack 20 lv.
Guard 20 lv.
Arts 20 lv.
This has me thinking: Just how much damage is possible in a single attack with max attack, art and ability stat with the highest attack increasing item possible? I'd reckon it be a ton combined with factors like transformations and fusions
The highest I can remember is around ~7700dmg., made by Lv20 Atk + Lv20 Arts SSj4 Gogeta's Ult.

So there is no point in maxing defense before health? Or maxing arts before attack?

Question @Dr.Dopietta why cant I get the Armored Trunks and King Piccolo and Halo Goku outfits in my PS2 Greatest hits version? It says each time I enter the codes that I entered them wrong even though I watched a UA-cam video on how to do it and entered them the same way the video showed. It won't let me have them and I bough the game from ebay back in October of this year.
You prob inserted the codes wrong, check out if you got a "O" instead of a "0" or vice versa.

I typed in everything for Goku Halo and it said wrong password. Idk what to do lol it does that with Trunks and King Piccolo codes to. @Dr. Dopietta

If I do level 20 in attack and arts is it additive or multiplicative? like say a special move does flat 100 damage before levels. would it be 250 damage or 300?
They stack like moltiplications: 100 + lv20 Atk + lv20 Arts = 100 x 2 x 1,5 = 300.
The com was that yeah but it was like you remember that code thing that would come out during the DU in the game? That was a specific code to your character i think where the website or something like that would be like you would write that down and then post it like saying this is my build of this character i did go against him too i can write it down from the actual manual i have it somewhere hang on
Doesn't the manual explain all that? I destinctively remember reading about the stats in it.
Edit: Just checked it, I wasn't even sure if I still own the game. I do. Page 9 lists what levelling up certain stats does, but does not mention the percentage changes.
I don't know, 'cause I've been playing on emulator for years, now that my old PS2 died.

I wouldn't say it's useless. I like to experiment with mix/matching lower level coms with high stats and high levels with low stats. lol
