Tucson native here! I see others have chastized you for missing the yellow mustard, which was my first thought! But... you totally missed the grilled pepper on the side!!! That really makes it! Without it, you're missing out on the full experience! Otherwise, you represented fairly well. We love your show here in "The Old Pueblo!" Keep up the good work!

I met Sam the cooking guy as I was working a valet job. I had been watching his show on cable tv. He came in to do a radio show or something. He was such a personable guy and was happy I was a fan. He shook my hand and talked with me for a bit. He gave me a crispy $20 and thanked me. What a genuine DUDE! congrats on your success, love the show!

My Family is from Sonora Mexico and in Hermosillo the capital they have MASTERED the Hot Dog. Anyway, The key is the BREAD. The Bakers make the buns Specially for the vendors and the buns are made to easily hold 2 hot dogs in 1 bun. From what they tell me, The bakers will only sell the buns to the vendors and not the grocery stores. (The Double hot dog bun that is )

The best sonoran dog, imo, is at the food truck by 22nd and Alvernon though the new carniceria on E Speedway, El Ranchero, is also putting out some bomb Sonoran Dogs.

I can’t say how happy I am that you have represented this glorious hot dog. It’s one of those complex dogs that just has to be right for every person. That said, for a long time for me, I never understood why anyone would mess up bacon by putting it around a hotdog…then I had a Sonoran Dog. It added so much complexity to the hotdog experience (yes, beyond chili even) I was forced to rethink it. That was many years ago. I was born and raised in Phoenix! I had no idea. All I have now is reverence for this hidden gem of culinary glory. If you are going to visit Tucson, El Guero Canelo needs to be on your list, but so does Carnitas La Yoca - the true draw of this wonderful old-cultural yet modern town comes from the little places that showcases every last bit of the top-notch Mexican-style food that Tucson is truly epic for. The list goes longer, feel free to ask for other glorious gems in Tucson.

I spent 2 months in Douglas, AZ in 2011 and there was a village green where food trucks would congregate at lunchtime during the weekdays. The Sonoran Hot Dogs were amazing. For $1.75. I've been visiting Tucson for 30 years and El Güero Canelo is the spot to get these. I've been preaching these for years to friends. El Güero is one of the bigger chains that serve them now but he started off as a single location out of a gas station parking lot. I'm sure others do it better but I tend to go to El Güero. Some are turned off by the mayo but I encourage everyone to try it loaded, the way it comes first. The pillowy soft bolillo roll is essential to this. Also, they serve each one with a grilled chili gueritos.

From a fellow WILDCAT, I believe the authentic bread is the bollilo, and for some reason I don't remember mayonnaise. Great show and thanks for walking me down memory lane.

I currently live in Sonora, but sadly cannot eat a hot dog. Looking at them makes my mouth water. I watch you regularly, Sam, and enjoy your videos. But I take issue with what you said about Tucson being "hot as balls" all year. Not true -- it can get quite chilly in the winter, falling below freezing at night. On occasion, snow falls overnight, as it has the past couple of winters.

we have a bacon wrapped sausage in Austria called Berner. Its basically a Wiener Sausage with some cheese in it wrapped in Bacon. You should make a trip to the good old world and check out some of our soul-hugging food like the Schnitzel.

It was 102 degrees here (In Tucson) 2 days ago. Hot as balls is correct. Great job with the Sonoran Dog. You NAILED it!

Love Sonoran dogs, we can’t good ones in San Diego. Every time we head to Tucson to watch the Gulls play the Roadrunners I have to stop at El Guero Canelo for a dog or two. Great job with the video, but you did forget the yellow mustard.

Interesting note, if you potato peel the peppers, there's barely any heat, even less than if you scrape or cut the guts out.
Keep up the good work. I need to get to san Diego again.

That looks pretty good. I saw a video of a lady cooking recipes from a 1960 cookbook its called bacon big boy,,, Basically, it's a hot dog in a bun with a lot of cheese and mustard. And the whole thing is wrapped in bacon.
And then Baked in the oven, you guys should try that one..❤

What works for me is cutting the sausage along as a book, but don't open it. Then wrap the bacon by stretching it tightly.
When the dog gets hot, it starts to swollen, pulling the bacon even more tight around itself.

Been in the 80's here in FL... so fine, complain about 93 there. But in a month or so for us down here 90+ with VERY high humidity is the norm. Can only deal with grilling outside when pounding down some happy juice to compensate for the suffering.
