"Take me home!" "Whoa, whoa, whoa" "That was close!" "We can do this!" With those phrases you know Ryan is having fun. There were a couple of times, however, when I thought he may be having too much fun. This is another good point for giving him high praise for these videos: he does get stuck, but not for very long. And he always tells us how he is adjusting systems to give him a better chance at success. Keep 'em coming, Ryan!
Here in Dubai we have the same challenge with sand dunes. Reducing Tyre pressure to 12-14 is a must. Another trick that I learnt was when you’re on a steep incline and flooring it like you were at the end of your video, if you sway your steering left to right and back about 6 inches in either direction, it gives the car more sway almost like adding to tyre track width. That has helped me get out of many situation where I tried everything and failed. Game changer!
My goodness, that turn control was impressive 😅 I love these snow reviews so much and can't wait for the next one! You really push the cars to their limits, Ryan, and it's really entertaining.
I'm thinking about getting one of these. I don't go off-road but sometimes when there's a line at the shopping mall I'd like to be able to jump the curb to beat traffic. Sure, it's $100,000 more than the car I currently drive, but think of all the time I'll save.
If you live in a climate where you are going to be dealing with snow and ice frequently, you would get dedicated snow and ice tires. Not sure this is a very accurate depiction of how one would tackle this IRL.
We do this every January in the around the Keweenaw in UP of Michigan . Its called the snoball. Raptor Brand Event only. Will be with 120 Trucks this weekend. Just send it! Air down to 20-25, Snow/Sand, Traction and Advance Trac off, lock out all gears above 3.
Sand Mode is actually also a deep snow mode (it has snow in the graphic). Slippery mode is for paved roads with snow and ice on them, not ideal for snow like this.
That thing is awesome. Modern traction control is definitely cool but front and rear lockers still appear to be king. Also this is impressive on KO2s. While they’re excellent tires on almost any terrain, in slimy mud or clay those things load up instantly and have got me into trouble in the past.
Yup, TIRES TIRES TIRES TIRES!! You are asking those donuts to do things which they were never designed to do (as great as they may be overall). A set of REAL TRUE winter tires on that thing and it would be unstoppable!!
Great video. You really showed capabilities at many different levels, conditions, and settings, plus had fun, and it was fun to watch. It also looked like a lot of work. Especially for the guy outside in the cold heh. Databyter
Snow and muddy conditions are a great way to test your vehicle and your experience, also in the snow airing down low like you’re driving in sand always works a treat. 12:57
Nice. I have had Jeeps, a Land Rover, an X-Terrra (don't recommend), and Toyota SUVs. All great vehicles, but I have to say one of my favorites for climbing a snowy, and/or slushy, 1/2 mile driveway in New England was the Mercedes' E class with the 4Matic traction control. No, the clearance wasn't as good but it worked through the snow like a beast.
My experience driving in deep snow has taught me the first thing that will stop you is the diff of a solid axle. Once that starts plowing the snow it just piles up in front of it until you stop. With IFS, usually its higher in front so the front tires can cut the hard snow and only the rear axle will drag in it. You can almost always back out and take another run at it (as you did.) With a solid axle in front you just build a growing wall of snow in front. Once the front starts dragging with an IFS its time to turn around (if you can.) PS I would have like to see what trail control would have done. In similar conditions with even harder snow, I could get by in 4Low with rear axle lock as long as I kept the speed very slow. I was driving on top of about 2 feet of snow. It was still dragging a bit but traction could keep me going. It was a surprise to find out ATRAC was useless in these conditions. I think its because the minute it applied the brake to a spinning wheel it would just stop forward travel. When you're driving on 2 feet of snow, the last thing you want to do is spin the tires and have them dig in. I would not have tried it with a Bronco because it weighs too much. My vehicle was 4100 lbs.
Enjoyed the vid immensely. I have a VIN and projected build week of 2/13 on an Iconic Silver one. Collecting all the info I can. This was helpful. Particularly airing down to 12 psi. Thanks.
Congrats on the new ride, I hope you get it soon. If you want to see what they're really capable of, check out Lite Brite's channel. They did some awesome rock crawling with theirs, they've probably pushed it harder than anyone else.
what’s really impressive is that you did that on Ko2s. They are not really known for snow or mud performance and I personally wouldn’t have felt comfortable unless I had some KM3s for that course. Super impressed with the driver as he maximized the potential of those tires.
@@skoolynugenator1802 the K02’s are triple peak snow rated tires they’re pretty good.. but AT3W’s I find better cause of the softer compound on the rubber for the snow and they’re also cheaper. The K02’s last longer cause of the of course their harder compound… I guess you can pick your trade off. 🤷🏻♂️
Always 4L in deep snow and sand it makes a big difference. Also going up hill with rear lockers and less than 15 psi. Each -5psi increments increases contact patch 10%
Better than a Quentin Tarantino video. I am sold! Especially when Ryan throws in: Whoa! Oooops! Oooops! Yikes! OK. Let's take a break... Another in a long line of effective and entertaining videos. In another lifetime I had a 1986 Bronco II that I adored and lost in the divorce... As Ryan might say, "Ooops! I guess I lost that one!"
What Ford need is to bring a descent PHEV version of both F150 and Bronco: driven exclusively by electric motors, leaving the ICE to only recharge the battery. This way they could slash the fuel consumption by several times, as the electric motors are way more efficient, 95% versus 25% of the combustion engine - also, vast amounts of instantaneous torque at low RPM. This also enables the ICE engine to be much smaller and operate at optimum rotation for efficiency and durability, with constant engine RPM. This PHEV implementation also enables to utilize a way smaller battery comparing to a BEV - a fraction of what the Lightning have, reducing both cost and weight.
Wow. Great video Ryan. I've got a 2022 Jeep Wrangler High Tide with 35" k02s. I'm gonna try airing down to 15 or so to help me get through this MN snow. Thanks for posting!
Not gonna lie. If toyota made this I would buy it in a heartbeat. Still having my eyes set on a 4runner for my next vehicle for reliability reasons. But the bronco is awfully tempting
Just like the new 2022 tundra trd pro looks WAYYY better in black to hide the huge grill and huge front end that sticks out a lot, this bronco looks way better blacked out as well and let’s those giant obnoxious fender flares blend in much better with the rest of the body and design. With the lighter brighter colors, those black fender flares stick out and stand out like shaq’s sore thumb. They just look off and looks like an unfinished design in the brighter colors but looks great on this one but I’ve always preferred blacked out vehicles.
Nice. Now try 13% grade with same snow, and 2"of ice for a base. Much tougher. Only way I was able to do that was with chains. Put chains on the front and let her buck. Mind you I did it with our Bronco Sport. That is our driveway when spring hits. Thankfully I am able to use a dozer to clear it off when those conditions hit. The test you presented were less than what it's capable of doing. But thanks for a great video.
Beaut! I wonder, can you get full on snow tires in this size for this vehicle? Maybe Bridgestone Blizzak's or another brand? I bet with the softer, grippier rubber of full on snows, plus your airing down of the tires strategy, those two things combined would bring noticeable results. Just a guess, but makes sense to me, since all seasons or off road tires, either severe winter rated, and whatever the treat pattern, are still harder rubber than a true snow. Thus my question above. Give me full on snow tires and a good, flexible roof rack system for on top, whether on the detachable or permanent hard roof, assuming both are available, for ski's, kayaks, bikes, extra travel storage bins and such, and man I would love one of these things. Thanks for these reviews. Thumbs up!
You can have all the power, ground clearance, locking diffs, and fancy aw/4wd tech you want - but in winter conditions NOTHING makes the difference that proper dedicated winter tires do. I have almost crashed multiple times with K02’s on excellent vehicles due to slipping on snowy/icy roads. Stop justifying not doing it and just buy actual winter tires if you’re in a similar position. K02’s are great on rock, dirt, etc. but absolutely worthless on ice.
Just drove a brand new Bronco Raptor this past Saturday. Comparing it to the Jeep 392. Bronco has more finesse where the 392 just beats into submission. Comparing these both together how would the 392 done on that same course?
The content is great! but I would love, if possible, if you could show on screen metric system values to do not have to be converting all the time. Also, having prices in CAD would be nice too. Most if not all the content creators in Canada do so in US and CAD. I love the channel and the tests.

When you have your rear diff locked, it’s looking like it’s cat more traction which is pushing the front end and making you lose control. Should locked the front and the back.

lowering the air pressure does not help in winter driving. you actually want a narrow tire with full inflation to sink the tire down into the snow, so you don't float on top of the snow, which would cause you to lose traction. look at all wrc cars and you will see they have very narrow tires. lower pressure only helps in sand and mud.

lowering the air pressure does not help in winter driving. you actually want a narrow tire with full inflation to sink the tire down into the snow, so you don't float on top of the snow, which would cause you to lose traction. look at all wrc cars and you will see they have very narrow tires. lower pressure only helps in sand and mud.
I agree with you that narrow is better for snowy road conditions, but lower pressure seemed to have helped in this scenario.
Him just hammering the throttle wasn’t helping either. This was a tire traction video with cockpit error involved imo
