I would have recommended putting blue steel between the Morvair and the Banana. So, you could have used a snatch block on both winches and anchored them to blue steel
A tale as old as time. We stopped and got breakfast, but we forgot to get gas! What a recovery!
I remember the tale of George Washington and the Fellas stopping to get Ye Olde Eggs n Toast and forgetting to fuel up the horses
On the plus side, had Cholula on the breakfast ... FAR better than that Tapatio stuff.

Tom is a trooper. Any situation he smiles and digs in without complaints or stopping.
Tom is the best. If I had a shop, I'd definitely want him as my right hand guy, totally solid and always doing a great job.
Plus, he adds those little nuggets of humor at just the right time!
Tom is eager to learn.
@@WS102 😊
@@robbiesharp311 I'm pretty sure everyone there should be learning much more from Tom.
Man that break-over angle is a killer. Darn impressive recovery.
Wonder if a air pillow of some type place on the low end to raise the front to somewhat of plain would work?
"That was a tough one." OMG!!!! All I saw was a smooth as glass, seamless, well- successful operation. Well done you guys!😊😊😊
It dawned on me while watching this, that the reason I enjoy this channel so much is seeing people solve problems. Nice, friendly people solving problems, often with a smile on their face.
And where have you been, Hayduke? :))
There's prolly a lot of yelling and screaming --- off camera.
@@SurferJoe46 I really do not think so. I have met them, they are the genuine article.

@@DoctorHayduke Good for you! Did you find someone local or via your channel?
I work in retail, so I'm enjoying the lack of holiday craziness. I know it means fewer sales but it allows me to operate at a stable pace.
Down here we're getting ready for our second freeze of the year, still no snow but the Florida equivalent of winter weather. Lol
The camera angles and action shots were even better than usual on this episode. Nice work and thanks for bringing us along!
Its the great part in having some many people on the team! Lots of rolling cameras, lots of helping hands!
I think having snow berms to stand on to give a top-down perspective is what helped here.
Siennas aren't light ~4500-5000 lbs! That was pretty steep. Impressive recovery!
It's a hybrid too.
Mind bending that the wheels can handle that type of force!! Unbelievable!! Absolutely love watching recovery videos!!!
Its impressive
Aside from the skill it took to get that van out I'm most impressed with how heavy of load those Apex winches can work under. Nice job getting it out guys.
Seriously, I was thinking about getting a warn but why bother when you can get two (or 3-5 vs zeon) whole apexes for the same price.
Need to talk to Badlands and have them get you a liquid cooling kit. If they can do it for computers and Teslas why not winches?
@@zachmiller9175 I have one of xzr 12000 and pull trees with it all the time. They're great winches for the price. Just don't expect lightning fast line speeds and leave the winch vehicle running
That van should not be running at that angle, can't be good for the oil circulation?
@@NoNORADon911 Have you seen how steep the hills are that the 4x4s go up and down? Same engine in both.
If you guys want to fix the morrvair/banana's fuel gauge, Tanks Inc. makes a product called "meter match" . You can use any ohm sending unit with any gauge and adjust it to match perfectly. Not sure what your situation is with the gauge but figured it might help!
That's the best tip they'll get all year,,, but someone will still have to remind him to get gas
Can it be set to send a notification to Matt via tazer when he hits 1/4 tank?
Even with a properly functioning gauge, he'll still forget to fill up lol.
What’s the fun of a working fuel gauge. I like their gas can bingo better.
As much fuel as he uses, he should have a thousand-gallon tank at his shop and appoint someone to top off the vehicles when they return from a job.
The fuel gauge works in the Banana. Matt knows it’s empty at a 1/4 tank.
Not having it full when they left the shop had nothing to do with the gauge.
Absolutely love the Corvair wagon!! 😍
And you guys did an amazing job minimizing further damage on that Toyota. Especially under such difficult conditions. Nice work. 👍
Found your channel today! Subscribed and watched recovery videos all day while I am home sick. Love the content. It looks like you all love what you do! Cheers.
This was a crazy recovery. Definitely the hardest I’ve seen in a while. Perfect job for the heavy wrecker
I wonder if a flat bed couldn't have done the last bit of the job a little bit more easily.
@@stephanbranczyk8306 would have been much better. But a rotator would have been the best. Strap all 4 wheels and pick it out without curbing the under belly in the ice and snow. No shovelling lol
But it was only crazy because they decided to do it in the worst possible way. Any crane would have done it in 30 minutes.
Anything would have been better than what they did and MUCH faster. They are after content and the gullible!
@@handyman75657 let’s hear YOUR master plan 🤔🤨
For the morrvair being able to pull that van up that hill like that is a testament of how well built it is. Great job!
Can't forget the Banana!
Guys, thumbs up to your gentle handling of the situation. Without the right observation and skills, the rear wheels may be pulled right off and the van roll back down the cliff. You showed the genuine effort! Very respectable group of folks.
Love the videos guys! Wouldn’t be a bad idea to invest in some orange cones for safety! Especially around blind corners people don’t know what’s on the other side and it could be very dangerous. Would hate to see something bad happen to y’all. Keep up the great recoveries! You’re much appreciated 😊
You guys should build/get a heavy wrecker for stuff like this!🤣
🤣
I'm surprised Matt hasn't smoked multiple Badland winches doing stuff just like this.
@@jedclampett6466 the new apex winches are actually good winches. Good for harbor freight finally making decent stuff

This video is a pure showcase of how much of a workhorse the Morrvair is. It's purely a beast and I can't imagine how much easier it will be for you when the wrecker is gonna be done !
Yeah that wrecker would have definitely made that a lot easier of a job
A great team effort without any drama no shouting & balling at each other cool calm & collected well done to all of you 👍
This is definitely extreme recovery. Great job guys.
Perhaps the most difficult and impressive recovery I have seen you guys do. And yes, your right, the truck would have made short work of it. Stay safe and keep on posting. We love you all.
I've seen you do some really hard recoveries but technically I think this one is near the top! All the angles were against you but perseverance won out! We used to drive that road to ski (coming from Southern California) every year and going home I was always afraid of ice in that area but thankfully never had a problem. For what it's worth, I was on the edge of my chair "helping" (LOL)!
Would have been a job for a 1 ton on road wrecker,. No problem....

One of your best recoveries yet ! Thank you. Love you guys
Hi,
A steep pull especially difficult over the edge. Not easy.
We had a similar occurrence and used a large steel gas cylinder on the edge to allow the pulling rope to run/slip over...worked quite well. Acted like a wheel turning.
No snow and no traffic though!
Enjoy watching your videos.
Tom is a great addition. He has a terrific attitude, doesn't complain, is good natured and knows what he's doing. I don't know how you found him, but keep him.
Tom-Tom is a close friend from Matt's teenage years
Matt in my opinion you guys did really good with the vehicles that you had. You figured out how to get the job done. You kept adapting.
The two things I love about this channel are very simple.
1) The family environment is a great thing in my opinion.
2) You always find a way to get the job done by adapting the plan when you need to. There isn't any recovery you can't handle
Great recovery - great teamwork! Your biggest advantage is that you guys have a very good understanding of the laws of physics and use it to your advantage!
"Diggin before riggin."
Tough recovery.
The young woman is a Q-tee.
Good morning everybody !! I think Matt needs to add yellow indicator lights to all his recovery vehicles
warning light on portable stand put before the curve,
Have thought that too. I know Matt prioritizes low weight over equipment, but there are tiny LED flashers that weigh basically nothing and would add some safety in several situations. Bet the flashers, wiring, and switch would add less than five pounds to each vehicle.
Recovery as an engineering puzzle. I enjoy watching the team work things out. But I do wonder why it's so hard to remember to get gas!
It's easy to forget Gas, Matt does it all the time.
@@dangalf84 as well as forget the keys
@@dangalf84 Hmmmm, I don't know. I can see forgetting once, twice, ten times, twenty times, but at some point I think I would change my approach. I've begun to think the no gas thing is an affectation for UA-cam. Another drama point to make the videos more interesting!
@@ScooterintheSticks I mean the gauge isn't 100% accurate which makes things a bit more difficult. They said they are empty when it reads 1/4.

2:05 Second WHAT YOU SAY to THIS GIRL ???? and show with your hands ??
@@georgevinson612 Probably correct. Is is really amazing how sharp you can turn if you just let off the brakes. To anyone that doubts this, go find a deserted slick parking lot and see just how sharp the car/truck will turn if you do not apply the brakes. After you do this, try the same turn at the same speed, but this time apply the brakes. It will be readily apparent.
I've questioned the reliability of the Badlands Apex 12k for a long time. But Matt and Paul have shown what these things can do. My dad and stepmom bought me one as a combined birthday and Christmas present. And this video made me a complete believer in these Apex winches. I'm sure there were cool down cycles but good lord that was a lot of hard winching. Matt wasn't kidding when he said that was a job for a twin line wrecker. Great job Matt and crew.
As many episodes that I watch I always am in awe of how smart the team is working together to get anything out of anywhere! Awesome stuff
I’m a big fan
That was an amazing labor intensive recovery. Good thing it wasn’t me doing the recovery cause I would have said, “if it’s still here in the spring we’ll give it a try” 😅
That was really impressive.... Also, it is always impressive how well all your crew works with each other. Cogratulations.
No lift, no boom, no room, and nothing broke with it being that steep.... That's really impressive!!!
Hard enough job without ALL THE CARS and traffic!! Great job (again) to Matt and the crew!
Watching Matt use his brain and all the tools he had simply brilliant
That may have been your hardest and most labor intensive recovery I have seen you do. And your equipment had a hard work out also and held together. Never ceases to amaze me what you and your team accomplish. Hopefully if you ever get another one like this it will be HEAVY WRECKER to the rescue.

and an old tow truck would have been better faster safer
@@spambeanie2 yeah but did they have their wrecker done? Nah. Did a proper tow truck show? Also nah.
This was really a hell of a recovery. You guys did great.👍🏼🤩❤️
Good on you guys for pulling it out with what you had to work with.
Can't be easy.
We just send a 5 ton wrecker and it's a cake walk. Or with a semi down the bank we send one of our rotators. But what you guys can do with with 20,000 worth of old cars is impressive.
When we get compliments on our recoveries I alway chuckle, because we have a huge fleet millions invested and having all the tools basically takes the skill out of. I have newbies that could pull that car out in their sleep with our little 5 ton wreckers, but these same newbies couldn't pull a shopping cart with the rigging you guys have.
Good on you guys, I'm amazed at what you accomplish
That was an amazing recovery. Glad the driver is ok, I’m sure that was terrifying when it occurred
Years ago when I was living in Michigan I pulled some cars out of the ditch in the snow with my old Bronco. But nothing like what you guys had done. Job well done!!!
I tried pulling a Blazer out of a huge ditch in Michigan years ago and it just kept pulling me in. So my dad shows up with his 96 Ram 3500 gasser to finish the job. Hes like you never had that as you are not anchored to anything and you are too light. lol
Greetings from Finland, from middle of the snow. Cool to watch out these videos, great job! Maybe try using a wide tire or a big rim (perhaps more stable prevent falling) on that edge to raise the winch rope higher, so that the pull does not come against the edge, this way the rear of the towed car rises a little before coming over the edge to flat. I´ve been using this trick couple of times to get towed vehicle rising a little bit, of course it need´s a solid ground or some sturdy stuff underneath that wheel.
Or you can just let Kimi drive it off the cliff.
Short log.
Considering they’re using two ropes/winches to pull it out - I don’t see how that’d be feasible
Also they’re on the very edge of the hill and their winches are above their front bumpers
How they’re going to get a wheel underneath that, i have no clue.
I see what your logic is but that doesn’t seem very reasonable considering the conditions.
@@ac3tate909 of course situations and equipments are different, like you said they had two strong winches to pull, so they got it out that way. I mean that moment when they back up and started to drag vehicle ovet the edge, in about 15 minute in video, when towed vehicle is still over edge, in that point if you get winch line higher and off from ground, that would help a bit. At least if you have weak winch and poor grip, thats my experience. Log is also good. And in my case, these were situations I haven’t prepared at all, so had to go with those equipment I had and found.
I will tell you guy what, I worked in a wrecker for years and you guys did a hell of a job with what you had. Nice job.
Could Matt get a fuel tank at his garage? This is a very common practice where I live. I feel like it would make his life easier to just be able to fuel at his garage before they head out.
Then the fuel tank would always be empty
@@worldwide_wes lol
He definitely could. But with his teenage kids and everyone else that tank would always be empty.
But then he could not get those crap breakfasts at maverick
Lots of permits involved with that, especially for gasoline. Diesel is usually easier because it’s considered combustible as opposed to flammable.
Your crew did such an amazing job on this recovery!
Impressive what can be done with the right equipment and of course the necessary know-how. Great job!
You guys are geniuses!!! At first I thought "There's no way they will be able to recover that thing". Now, I'm impressed!!!!
I dont comment very often, most things are said, but I just have to say the amount of overall enjoyment I get from Matt and the MORR team is on another level. Every video just gets better, they really take the time to produce the best content they can. Watching the channel evolve and keep growing without sacrificing the family feel and working as a team with all the changes they have gone through is great to see. This recovery showed a lot of skill and trust in your equipment. Really challenging with the equipment you used and those crazy pull angles! Thanks for taking us along!
They suck, they don’t know recovery , no chains on the pulling tires for example, toe points are incorrect lack of good direction and poor organization,,,this was a basic small vehicle recovery they made look difficult

As impressive as the recoveries are, I'm always amazed at Matt out there in the cold with just a short sleeve shirt on. He must be part polar bear.
We just had a front come through yesterday and the temps dropped like a rock. It is currently 46° and sunny here in South Florida. I'm inside and I'm cold just watching this video. I don't know how he does it.
Me, too! My hands would've been frozen in no time, esp. as they said it was ZERO. As for temps, I think we adjust to wherever we're living. Back in LA, a rare 46F would've been what we called "bone-chilling", but here in Boston where I'm from, that's mild for winter. Yet to hear SoFL is still that cold, after the conditions there over the holidays, is kinda depressing.
The cold never bothered him anyway

2) wearing more clothing would cause overheating and sweating, followed by freezing due to the sweat. everyone here does this.
3) you have been acclimated to warm weather.

Love it when you guys do difficulty recovery. they are so entertaining and fun to watch. Keep up the good work MORR!!
I wonder if digging the snowbank down to pavement in the first place would have helped.
And for breakovers like that you need to hook on to the front wheels and pull there at the break over point.
At the end you were pulling the van INTO the hill, not up the hill by pulling on the rear wheels and a horizontal pull from the rigs, that is why it was so hard at the end.
Good job at figuring it out and getting it out with what you had.
The banana and the one with the ladder on the back are sick jeeps!
