David asked his band to do this cover. They finally agreed when David said he would never ask them to another cover. Probably their biggest hit ever. The song is from Simon and Garfunkel
Simon & Garfunkel recorded this in 1964 and the song is about the inability of people to communicate with each other, not particularly intentionally, but especially emotionally. So, what you see are people not being able to love each other. Sadly, I believe this was foreshadowing current events, and is most relevant to the times we are living today. And I have to agree "Disturbed" made this song his own and with his delivery being sung so "threateningly" it's as if he is screaming trying to wake people up to this fact.
Hurt, Johnny Cash. I'm not saying that this song isn't close or maybe even, but you cannot watch that video, filmed shortly before Johnny Cash's death, and not think it is a tragic reflection of his soul. Trent Reznor has said it is Cash's song now.
I love how with each verse his intensity grows. From a gentle tone to a pure growl by the final verse. So subtle, so very well defined and controlled. This is my favourite version of this song, a vocal masterpiece.
I hope you will welcome a new subscriber even if I am an old hippie. I came of age with Simon and Garfunkel..... Their original song was meant as a warning of where the world was going to since we weren't communicating with each other.. some of us were and saw that warning. However I found that Disturbed's cover began with sadness that the masses did not heed the warning and it ended in veiled anger and frustration that the prophets words were not listened to. Thank you for reading this and my next suggestion is "Hold on to memories" by Disturbed.
I still can't listen to, or watch the video for, Hold on to Memories without tearing up. Such a beautiful and affecting song. From Down with the Sickness (bomb-ass song, btw) to Sound of Silence to The Vengeful One to Hold on to Memories, I am so impressed with the the bands willingness and David's ABILITY to successfully venture into to so many different sounds. Brilliant. Down with the Sickness, however, will always hold a special place in my heart and it is so very classicaly Disturbed that it gets me pumped every time.
Is there any reaction on the entirety of youtube, to Disturbeds cover of this song that does NOT have this comment copy-pasted into it? David Draiman... one of the best male vocalist's on the planet imho. His voice is so rich and full. If you listen, he can actually put vibrato on distortion, which is extremely difficult to do... the man has unbelievable power and control of that beautiful voice! Loved your reaction and commentary De & Dre
I was just thinking the same thing about David Draiman singing the Star Spangled Banner at the World Series or Super Bowl! You should listen to the live version on Conan Obrien. It still gives me goose bumps and I’ve heard it 100’s of times.

Hello all. The first time I heard this song I waited for the sound and music to change. It never did. Blew me away because I listened to this band a lot and didn't expect this!I remember the original and Disturbed did an AWESOME JOB on it. Keep listening 🎶
A very intelligent analysis, but from the heart. Excellent. Paul Simon, who wrote this song in the early 1960s,said that this is his favorite cover for the song.
I love his voice. I firmly believe that his training as a cantor contributes to his range & breath control. I adore his voice but I know David’s voice from his own music. I was introduced to his voice when I was 15 through his song “Down With the Sickness” so when you said he’s got a pretty voice I straight cackled. Check out that song & you’ll see why. 😂 Y’all have an awesome day: loved the reaction.
You said you don’t know this band, haven’t heard this guys voice before… ❤ I respectfully direct your attention to your video with the Godmother of drumming….. she was drumming to Down With The Sickness by Disturbed. That’s the same band you’re listening to now…😊
I LOVE that so much....... I've heard it a thousand times and it always makes me think of the end times! Pentatonix did a great version and made it more up beat and of course Simon and Garfunkel had a very hippie feel to it. All WONDERFUL but Disturbed takes the cake! Have you ever reacted to Home Free? Sorry, just stumbled upon this reaction video but if you haven't seen Home Free their cover of When a Man Loves a Woman made it theirs :)
As others have said the live version is absolutely amazing. However, this video resonates so deeply with me when you consider our current world and the lack of communication within it. Especially, the visual at the end of the song. People on one side carry sheets of music, but no instruments to play it. People on the other side have instruments, but no music to play. It’s only by coming together, is the real beauty seen and heard. Powerful imagery when you think of it in the context of our current society. Just found you guys and your reactions are wonderful to watch and to hear your thoughts. Keep doing what you’re doing. Blessings.
Great music video! Ends with the musicians crossing the channel towards the song writers... as the dawn breaks. The video creator deserves some recognition as well in my opinion.
My fave song by my fave band! David is classically trained. He can hit any note! Mostly Disturbed is a heavy metal band. But they do a few songs along these lines. Saw them in concert a few months ago. If anyone is wondering, their newly released album is the bomb!!!
Glad you guys covered this Cover. I remember the original. (I am 64) but this man brought this song to life. Best cover I have ever ever heard❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I loved your reaction to this cover, so much symbolism in this cover, I am a child of the 60's when Simon & Garfunkel released the original in 1964 I was in high school, back then I considered it kind of country-ish, I liked it but the message didn't pierce the soul. This cover by Disturbed along with the video is the BEST it touches your soul and really gets S&G message to the core of my being and many others too, goosebumps and tears every time. "Neon God" in the 60's TV the advancement of technology NOW there is so many more especially cell phones. "Neon light that split the night", I remember when neon light would turn on there would be a crackling sound thus touched the sound of silence. Suggestion = The official video by Disturbed “Hold On To Memories” was released Jan 23rd 2020. “Hold on to Memories" is about not only honoring those we’ve lost, but also making the most of our time with those we still have.
Love the reaction! The song is a cover, the original was written by Paul Simon in 1964 and performed by Simon and Garfunkel. A classic, though after hearing this cover I understand Paul Simon told David Dramain this is his song now. You should also check out Disturbed doing this Live on Conan (most reactors do). As for the National Anthem, I would love to see your reaction to the "Star Spangled Banner As You've Never Heard It Before." Brings many to tears!
When I was younger I loved the Simon & Garfuncle version I loved it. But to hear this his versions just brings it to the forefront as to what the meaning is. And his voice....every singer should wish they could sing like this! Masterful!
Great reaction to this classic song. Disturbed is a very Heavy Metal band, but they also have a soft side. Hold On to Memories a a beautiful song. Please react to Pentatonix version. It is also terrific.
This song was a revelation to those of us that grew up listening to the Simon n Garfunkel version. David Draiman is unreal. Now react to the video of them doing Down with the Sickness. Heavy metal but excellent!
I don’t necessarily say it’s Disturbed’s song but it’s the version that the current generation of young people need to hear it. Simon and Garfunkel will always be the kings of this song. David Draiman is a vocal beast!
That is still my favorite song(their cover) after years now. I Also have great memories of listening to it with my mom before she passed. She loved many types of music, including metal(Her children's counting 3 of us out of 5 all have the same fav band: Metallica. She loved them) ❤ your reaction!
The song to me speaks of how many people have been stopped by the silence of people not speaking up. Put it in context of of the oppressed and the masses accepting it but there are whispers of outrage and dissent - written on walls as graffiti etc and slowly the world changes and the quiet whispers become roars.
This is how to deliver a very important message imho. I've never listened to the lyrics (grew up with S and G version) because the original melody was so boring. Until Disturbed covered it. Oh my, David made me listen! I only could cry 😢 😭 and still, I cry or have goosebumps all over my body. HUGE MESSAGE TO US ALL. His voice, the so true message and this video, pure perfection. Communication, face to face, sooooooo VERY important. In the 60's, TV was bad for communication. Coming home, couch hanging/TV watching is deadly for Communication. But nowadays, internet and SM...........MORE DEADLY! Ppl are nothing more than keyboard / SM monkeys nowadays imo. Talking without speaking and definitely hearing without listening. REALLY listening to eachother, really communicating with eachother, face to face and listen, really listen to what the other has to tell you. SM is definitely NOT social at all. Thanks for your reaction video, liked it.
Sir disturbed lol. Ill ask our queen. I do agree though, i love his version and it was a very famous song by a very famous duo in the 60s. So thats tough to beat. Bit yep, i believe they/he achieved it! X

Great reaction to an even greater singer. 💥🤘🏽
I can tell you guys have an appreciation for David’s talent! Loved your reaction!
Next time the Olympics are in America, we need David to sing us in!
Wow… you doods really feel this and YAS, Star ⭐️ Spangled Banner!!!!
This masterpiece is not a song, it's an experience.
I had the privilege of hearing them live in Salt Lake and what urheard there is exactly how he sounds live absolutely awesome vocals
Simon and Garfunkel original was a warning of what could happen if we don't change Disturbs cover was the rage that we didn't listen
Excellent reaction my friends. I like how enthusiastic you guys are when experiencing good music. Rock on and peace out.
✌🏻😎👍🏻
When I was younger I loved the Simon & Garfuncle version I loved it. But to hear this his versions just brings it to the forefront as to what the meaning is. And his voice....every singer should wish they could sing like this! Masterful!
Absolutely incredible. He even sounds excellent when singing heavy music.
He is actually a heavy metal band leader.
I don’t necessarily say it’s Disturbed’s song but it’s the version that the current generation of young people need to hear it. Simon and Garfunkel will always be the kings of this song. David Draiman is a vocal beast!
This song, in this version, is an absolute emotional thunderclap.
The best cover of any song I've ever heard. People cry when hearing this version.
I love at the near end of the song, how both of the guys did not move, just watching Disturbed sing,
The only way to listen to this song and his voice is as loud as possible. Just an amazing job on Simon and Garfunkel song! Great reaction guys!
Sir disturbed lol. Ill ask our queen. I do agree though, i love his version and it was a very famous song by a very famous duo in the 60s. So thats tough to beat. Bit yep, i believe they/he achieved it! X
Most, will never be able to sing with this depth of feeling but we can listen with the needed depth!
You don't hear this, you feel it!
Nice reaction 👌
Definitely listen to the live version of this song on the Conan O'Brian show.
Simon and Garfunkel wrote and performed in 1965 . I was a child when it first came out and it’s been covered by hundreds of people over the years but this is one of the best .
First time watching you guys and you both seem like solid down to earth dudes. A reaction from you guys on the "Star spangled banner how you have never heard it before" would be awesome video. So many in the US have no clue about the story that birthed the song.
I was 54 before I heard that version and the history in that way about our flag. I just bawled...
He was classically trained and extremely talented even when he sing heavy
He is my fav and I LOVE HIS CAPES HE WEARS THEM WELL!! Can’t wait to see him here in ATLANTA GA2023”
The live performance on the Conan show was fire!!!!!! 🔥
Love this Cover ❤❤❤ I'm 55, but when you grow up with the original, it's always better to you! S&G are amazing!! Love this too!!❤❤❤
I totally agree. In my heart and soul, he owns it! ♥
Even one of the original artist (Paul Simon of Simon & Garfunkel) after hearing David's version stated that the song belongs to him now.
Even Paul Simon, of Simon and Garfunkel, the original singers, said it was now his song
