  • The Surface 604 Big Sky is a zippy cruiser electric bike with mounting options for fenders and a rear rack. Ships as Class 2 with responsive torque sensing pedal assist and a trigger throttle that overrides all five levels with 100% power. Can unlock higher top speeds as Class 3 if you wish. This is the high-step larger frame, but Surface 604 also sells the smaller Sunny Day mid-step. Default battery is 48v 12ah, but they also sell a 14ah and 20ah pack for extended range. Beautiful color display panel with USB charging port below, second USB port built into the side of the battery pack. Great 9-speed Shimano Alivio with wide 11-36 tooth cassette. Powerful 180mm Tektro hydraulic disc brakes with adjustable reach levers. Has mounting points for adding fenders and a rear rack if you wish, but no bottle cage mount. Pre-wired for use with an integrated headlight and tail light that blinks when you brake, rear light mounts to the optional rear rack. Light colored frame and reflective tires improve safety when riding in low light conditions. Oversized saddle and handlebar create upright body position, add comfort. No suspension fork, but you could lower tire pressure and add suspension seat post. Includes a basic 2 amp charger, but S604 does sell a 4 amp fast charger. Battery charge port is low near the left crank arm, pedal assist can activate unexpectedly if the chain bounces excessively.

Court, always look forward to your reviews. No flashy video and loud music. Just the facts and expert opinion. This bike really appeals to me. Great esthetics and a torque sensor. I would add a rack and an aftermarket bright light for day and night riding and a sun tour ncx seat post and be very happy. I would consider selling my Rad City 5+ , that I really like, just to get the torque sensor and higher speed.

Thanks Jay, doing my best out here! I like your plan: suspension post, bright light, enjoy the torque sensor :)

Havent watched much in the past few years as i have an ebike i have been satisfied with. Its good to me to see you are still in this space. Im pretty and unfortunately poorly served by my current bike. Its the newest verson of the ***wagon and its been a consitent disappointment. I like to say that ive never hated so much a bike that i loved. Its like that.
I had decided to go to the biktrix stunner step over but it seems its been discontinued or is unavailable for the foreseeable future. My weight pretty much make the low step not an option.
Have you any knowledge of the ariel rider kepler? Its in my budget and seems like a decent bike. What do you think?

A point that i missed is that im glad to see you are still in this space giving really honest and realistic reviews. Whats it been over 10 years now? A standard full time job is 2080 hours a year. You are considered an expert in a subject after 10k hours of experience. So your opinion in this space is probably fairly underrated. Just saying as an advocate of ebikes, i really respect what you have done in this space.

And for context im looking at the ariel rider kepler to be a replacement for the ***wagon as a daily commuter and car sub. I want to rebuild the ***wagon as a mid drine with a rear igh long haul vehicle with probably a 3 spd igh.
*** power bikes went a bad direction with the retool of the ***wagon imo the original ***wagon was a beast and should have been retained and bolstered with a mid drive version. ***'s phones are shut down now because of the *** wagon debacle. I need an entire new Drivetrain for my bike, the tires were just the start. So im looking for a ebike in the new 2k to 2.5k range. The ariel rider kepler seems like a good starting point. What say you?

Hey! Thanks for the compliment, and recognition. Sorry to hear that you haven’t enjoyed the wagon… the Ariel Rider products always impressed me. I haven’t looked at the one you mentioned, but perhaps I will sometime this year! Biktrix also makes good stuff, lots of options from them, it always amazes me how they can customize so much. For reference, I think these Surface 604 models have a 285lb max weight capacity.

Thanks so much! Yeah, I started the site back in 2012. My time these past couple of gears has been interrupted by the pandemic stuff and I’ve been focusing on some programming projects for the website. Big features coming soon. At some point I would like to get out there and really mix it up with the bikes I’m looking at again. Wish me luck 😉

I own an Ariel Rider and a Biktrix and Both bikes have performed fantastic not to mention customer support from both companies has been great, Ariel Rider's customer service has really improved over the years! Might i suggest the Biktrix Juggernaut Classic Duo. I have a Juggernaut HD and it is a fantastic commuter bike!

How do you like this one compared to the shred for comfort? Does a more forward position reduce spinal pressure? I have spinal issues(arthritis/herniated discs)and the reason for my concerns. Thank you sir.

Court: please review bikes available here in the UK: I’m looking at the Ribble Gravel AL e - Hero
Shimano GRX Di2, please review this if possible

Court, I always enjoy your in depth reviews for everything e-bikes! I always try to seek your opinion with regard to e bikes. I’ve been looking at four 😢minimalistic design e-bikes: Tenways CGO600 pro, Honbike U4, and Cowboy e bike and FLX babymaker ll. All lighter in design with single speed Gates belt drive.

Hi, I saw a video you did on the evox kab 375 and I know someone with that bike. Needs a new battery, you able to help out on where to get one?
I know the company went out of business a while back but there has to be a place where you can get a battery for it. Id like to get it off him.

Good looking bike. I do notice that some design features and parts look "Juiced."

Seems comparable to the Pace 500.3 but that bike is $500 cheaper.

    • @elevenAD
      @elevenAD Рік тому +1

yup! Even the Pace 500.2 is competitive and its $800 cheaper, i dont know that a torque sensor is worth $800 bucks.
