... tears of joy and nostalgia. Though the 1990s weren't perfect, when watching this and other films from then, they made life more enjoyable and everything seem more magnificent. I'm glad to have been a kid in the 1990s.
I had no idea it was critically panned until a few years ago, always thought this was one of the better films of that generation. Everything from it's premise of growing up and overcoming fears to the acting, setting and animation made this one of my favorite movies.
This movie is one of the most underrated gems of the nineties. Words can't express the levels of wonder and excitement you felt watching this as a kid.
Yeah the sad part is that while I liked it it also felt like a sort of proof of concept reel to present to a studio to pick it up as a series. The pacing was weird in that it felt like stuff happened too soon or too quickly, and it took away a little from his growth as a character. Like all the pieces were there but it needed more time to really steep. Also I just wanted more adventure, more characters growth and just MORE. I think had they turned this into a series where each week they looked at the world of a different classic book, and it went on for weeks, but still had him return back to the real world moments after he left on his journey, it would’ve been a timeless classic for sure that many people still remembered to this day. But then again early 90’s no way you could cast Whoopi Goldberg, Macaulay Culkin, Patrick Stewart, and Christopher Lloyd on a children’s show of a brand new IP. Would’ve been far too expensive. But still, alternate universe, who knows. Haha
"No matter how old you get, no matter how rigid over time your heart might become, it only takes that one memory to soften even the hardest of surfaces." I haven't heard this song for over 20 years. I made it a habit to watch the pagemaster every Friday night when I was young. Even though I am in college, to me, nothing is more motivating and powerful than your cherished memories.
I know the feeling all to well. Sometimes we may feel horrible, or even start to lose sight of who we once were. But, when you come face to face with a precious old memory (this for example), it's like being visited by your younger self. And it's this child that can both brighten your day, and re-awaken an old, but beautiful part of your heart.😊 In fact, its these precious memories that can also help us to see at times, what's truly important to us.😊😊
back when imagination solved all problems, brought love and happiness as well as kindness...true friendship....those were the days....gave you something worth living for.....
Our physical "reality" is not real, only from the human perspective and life. We are in a dream. Its a convincing dream with duality, therefore you will be lost in the dream, wake up.
Weve all experienced loss and change growing up. It sucks. But were lucky to have had such loving and memorable childhoods. I'm 26 now and this song reminds me to believe in myself and to be hopeful
+Matthew Moran well using a cliché "good movie" example such as citizen kane shows you don't actually know good movies you just go with what everyone says. also this is on the same level as Aladdin and the Lion king as far as family movies go. citizen kane is only good to its targeted audience, adults.
Daniel Albinante That's so cool. VHS players aren't in production and are kinda hard to find. What a pleasant surprise knowing some kids have them & they still work w/ modern televisions.
Everyone listens to this song for different reasons. I would listen to this when my wife and I were trying to have a baby. 4 years I listened to this song. Then it happened. Now i am listening to this again on my twins one year old birthday. If only you could see the smile on my face when i listen to this now.
I already loved books as a child, but this movie definitely fed that love! I was at the library every week getting a stack of books and a few VHS tapes. Good times. Would give anything to be a kid in the 90s again!
I'm crying. Watching this is like looking back and seeing your 8 year old self cheering you on... Thank you for making this. For anyone reading this and doubting yourself or your work...remember that anything you imagine can come true.
I’m 27 and this movie was a huge part of my childhood. I can’t believe when I ask my peers about this movie and they tell me they’ve never heard of it! Definitely would love to see them do a remake
I've heard a lot of people say they've never seen it, but then they watch and realize it's familiar. They thought they dreamed it! Nope, it's very much a real movie! And a damn good one at that!
This movie was my entire childhood. I would watch it everyday! But then i forgot about it and only remembered it yesterday. I think it kinda shaped me Because now I'm wanting to be an author and I'm ,top to bottom, full of imagination. Xox this movie is great!!! Xx
Whatever you imagine Can one day come to be There are dreams to awaken Roads to be taken Follow them, and they will set you free Whatever you imagine Is where your heart can go There are worlds filled with treasure Time without measure To learn whatever you may need to know Imagine And you and I can fly pas the sun And leave all our doubts and fears behind us You see that's just what can happen If you look look inside your mind There's no limit to the wonders you can find Whatever you imagine Can make your life brand new There are miracles waiting So keep concentrating And I promise you, that if you do Whatever you imagine, can come true Whatever you imagine (whatever you imagine) Can make your life brand new There are miracles waiting So keep concentrating And I promise you, that if you do Whatever you imagine will come true
This song is pure nostalgia. It really hits me hard, making me think of much better times in my childhood. Having sleepovers at my Grammys house with my cousin that I was so close to, we were practically sisters. Now my Grammy is gone, my cousin totally disappeared after my family bitched her out for not telling us that my Grammy had a stroke until 2 days after it happened. I wish I could go back and spend more time with my Grammy before she had the stroke..
Never had this on VHS as a child, but I remember watching it every time it came on the telly. Saw this video and remembered it, so I bought it on Blu Ray a few days ago and just watched it. Tears of Nostalgia :)
5 years ago, I bought a copy of The Pagemaster on disc for my niece as a gift. It's in her movie collection to this day and a symbolism of that song having a very special meaning to me before she was born.
Its year 1998. A five years old child gets lost in his own world of immagination and fantasy watching this masterpiece. Not too much later, this movie becomes his favorite one. He saw it at least one thousand times. Its year 2018, and that child grew up, but still cries every time that he watches this video.
I really love the fact that the same people who composed "Somewhere Out There" from An American Tail, composed this song as well. The 90s were an awesome time for pop ballads in movies.
This is the song that we sing at our high school each year for graduation and everything about it is so beautiful to me, from the vocals to the instruments to the message of the lyrics, it brings a tear to my eye every time we sing it and considering I’ll be a senior myself, I can say for certain it’ll be a tearjerker for sure, love this song❤️
Just got the Blu-ray of this film.. After all these years it still makes me smile... What a animated masterpiece. Love the music, characters, and the suspense. The quality is really good and looked remastered. Whatever you do while watching it, you will imagine a simpler time...
I came to uni 3 weeks ago, me and one of my flatmates both realised we loved this film and hadn't seen it since our childhood, i ordered it drunkenly one night and its taken 2 weeks to come. Just finished watching it and I have never felt so nostalgic in all my life, what a film! It has such a great moral to tell, heres to new friendships and overcoming your fears! :)
A great song and an all-star cast that makes it work beautifully including - though I didn't notice until watching recently - the late, great Leonard Nimoy. A fantastic movie if anything else.
This movie is epic in every little detail, the soundtrack is amazing, characters are great, and the animation is amazing, specialy considering the year it was done. The only thing to complain is that it doesn't go deep inside the stories it was supposed to show kids. But even if look at this angle, showing little about them made me curious to READ the rest of these stories. This movie is perfect.
I was born in 2003, and I had taken an interest in the 90s era. I'd like to imagine myself being in the 90s era where movies and songs like these were the hit ones
I'm 18 years old, and i still love watching movies like this. filled with hope and every song heard, just makes you feel all warm inside and it's just so magical... 😁😁
Am the daughter of a librarian and honestly, remember going to work with my mum after watching this and getting annoyed that I didn't become a cartoon lol
I still remember when this movie came out when I was 5 years old. It's probably the one reason why I became so interested in reading, and most likely the culprit behind me reading 2-3 grades higher than my classmates at the time. Having just turned 23 last month, it's still one of my absolute childhood favorites.
What is the big difference in the kids movies of today, compared to the ones of the 80’s and 90's? It comes down to one thing really. And the length and breadth of that thing on display in the 80’s/90's has stood the test of time. You can still experience it in today’s movies, but it’s not as fresh, brave and bold as it was back when I was tyke. I’m talking about this thing that drove the ideas behind many of the kids films of that era. And that one thing was used so well, respected and pushed to the boundaries and back time and time again it gave us movies that were oddly original, entirely inventive and unusually unforgettable. That thing of course, was pure Imagination!
I loved this movie when I was a little girl and I still love it to this day. This is song still takes my breath away and as an aspiring writer, I feel like I can create at least three series after hearing it 💜
Definitely a 90's kid soundtrack the generation of imagination man i miss the 90's and my childhood this song took me back to all the good times remember WHATEVER YOU IMAGINE CAN MAKE YOUR LIFE BRAND NEW!!!!!!
I remember when dad got me this movie as VHS one night back in the 90’s. I was so happy! Woke up the next morning excited to watch it. Remains a favourite. Nostalgia. Am 28 yrs old now 😩
fucking LOVE this song. If only I could find the full scene from the movie that goes with it. I swear i must have rewound that scene a hundred times. I know some critics didn't really like this movie, but its one of my all time favorites. and fortunately my 7 years old nephew adores the movie too, especially the scene with Jekyll and Hyde. XD
I used to watch this movie with my grandma who passed this year. And coincidentally, you had posted this on my birthday, July 20th. I know it may seems silly. But I feel like somehow my grandma pointed me here.
This movie is so emotional with both storyline and music I'm 32 and still remember watching it at 9yrs old in 1994 when it came out and it has the most magical true message of everyday life
LOVE love love this song and movie. As a kid, an only child, and a big reader I loved the words "There are worlds full of treasure, TIME without MEASURE! To learn w/e you may need to know", " And leave all our doubts and fears, behind us. You see that's just what can happen, when you look inside your mind, there's no limit to the WONDERS you can find" , "There are miracles waiting, so KEEP concentrating" Wow. The fact that my name is Paige made it my faves when I was a kid. BOOKworm 4 life!
best magical song ever..ugh the pagemaster was so underrated .. probably because it wasnt your ''love story'' like the rest were pocahontas, little mermaid, aladdin etc.. whoever directed it had original creativity n imagination
i watched this as a kid almost every day through my childhood. that's the memories i cherish and the movies i adored. these days kids watch tv shows that i would not even WANTED to see as a child. the thought of it getting worse in the next generation scares me.
as touching as it is nostalgic, 29 now but I still remember this song and movie. will definatly be one that i hope to watch with my kids (if snd when lol) . peace and love to all :)
I'm showing this to my kids when I get bit older!! 23 this year and my creativity and childhood wouldn't be what it is today without this film ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
this song is the reason i couldnt make it through the movie recently , it chokes me up. it kills me, to think how we age. how our child hoods should be so magical and for the us lucky ones it was. i remember being home sick watching this, staying up late watching this.... ive grown but this movie has stayed the same...
I just wanted to say to everybody who liked this film....that I am dreadfully sorry for my attitude early on. Because, all of you are right about what you said: everyone is entitled to their opinion. And to be honest, I've gotten tired of shaming people who like things that I, or anyone else, don't. Because, we shouldn't shame those who have differing opinions from us.
my daughter is two and she watched The Pagemaster for the 1st time the other day. It is now a movie she has to watch before bed and she has to come to the computer and watch this video. PRICELESS
... tears of joy and nostalgia. Though the 1990s weren't perfect, when watching this and other films from then, they made life more enjoyable and everything seem more magnificent. I'm glad to have been a kid in the 1990s.
Same
Me too.
The 90s is a diamond compared to our virus filled world now
true m8 now its all cancel culture
You can say that 🥸🤯🥴🤢🤮🤧😷🤒
Nostalgia really does hurt. I wish there was a time machine so we can all go back to those days and relive our golden days.
Our hearts
I feel the same way too.
Me too… I can only listen to a second of this
We can relive them by simply watching movies.
Aren't you afraid of changing something in your past that is important for your future.
Watched this movie so many times as a kid in the late 90s. Screw the critics, it's a good movie.
I agree 100 percent. I just watched this with my son for the first time and it was amazing watching him get into the same movie I grew up on
Its fantastic movie!
I had no idea it was critically panned until a few years ago, always thought this was one of the better films of that generation.
Everything from it's premise of growing up and overcoming fears to the acting, setting and animation made this one of my favorite movies.
It also sends a good message about seeing things through to the end and to conquer your own fears
If childhood was a nation, THIS would be its Anthem.
Thank you...fr That comment brought my childhood full circle 😭
Just here to remind you that you made a difference with one sentence well done you mate
@@isaacsmith6878 It is special you mean that. :)
I do mean that indeed, almost 30 but I still remember being 7 and feeling this song was an hour long lol
In 2015, James Horner found the EXIT.

i love this movie. in my opinion its very underrated.
Michele Robinson Yeah! This is THE BEST MOVIE EVER!!!!!

Pedro Smith Everything is awesome in this movie

...........You are extremely misinformed.

(scoffs) Oh, please. Compared to "Citizen Kane", this movie is on the same level as most of Disney's direct-to-video films.

Well, whatever. I'm not letting my kids watch that mediocre film.
By the way, Ebert And Siskel ripped this movie apart.
This movie was just so good. I'm 21 and I still think this movie is a masterpiece. I'm so glad I still have the VHS tape.
+Seanny D hope i find mine man i'm 18 and agree with you this is a master piece

My favorite childhood movie.. Im 31yrs old now, and still look at this movie for encouragement.
Adulting gets tuff at times 😭🙏🏽
I've just watched the Pagemaster. It's been well over a decade since I've last seen this film. I'm literally crying tears of nostalgia.

This movie was huge for me emotionally as a kid. I love this song!!
Whatever you imagine
Can one day come to be
There are dreams to awaken
Roads to be taken
Follow them, and they will set you free
Whatever you imagine
Is where your heart can go
There are worlds filled with treasure
Time without measure
To learn whatever you may need to know
Imagine
And you and I can fly pas the sun
And leave all our doubts and fears behind us
You see that's just what can happen
If you look look inside your mind
There's no limit to the wonders you can find
Whatever you imagine
Can make your life brand new
There are miracles waiting
So keep concentrating
And I promise you, that if you do
Whatever you imagine, can come true
Whatever you imagine (whatever you imagine)
Can make your life brand new
There are miracles waiting
So keep concentrating
And I promise you, that if you do

I still need to read that story
I love this film! 4 friends joined together! To find their way home together ❤️📚
Such an underrated movie. A fantastic movie about bravery and imagination.
This was my childhood feel bad for kids now days they will never know this beautiful masterpiece ❤️
I'm 28 now, I remember watching and rewatching this movie with my brother man. Sweet memories! Almost brings a tear to my eye
My childhood was kickass ;D
So was mine!
this song is very touching.... beautiful VOICE!!!!
i watched this as a kid almost every day through my childhood. that's the memories i cherish and the movies i adored. these days kids watch tv shows that i would not even WANTED to see as a child. the thought of it getting worse in the next generation scares me.
I cant believe I commented on this 10 years ago, good Lord.
I miss masterpiece films like this.
as touching as it is nostalgic, 29 now but I still remember this song and movie. will definatly be one that i hope to watch with my kids (if snd when lol) . peace and love to all :)
I absolutely adored this movie as a kid! brings back great memories.
Watched this movie tonight with my daughter. definitely one of my childhood favorites.
Oh the nostalgia magical😊
I'm showing this to my kids when I get bit older!! 23 this year and my creativity and childhood wouldn't be what it is today without this film ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This movie alone has made a big contribution to make me the person I am today for that I'm grateful
Okay I’m not gotta lie. It’s been 13yrs that I’ve never listen to this song. But this song will never be forgotten.
this song is the reason i couldnt make it through the movie recently , it chokes me up. it kills me, to think how we age. how our child hoods should be so magical and for the us lucky ones it was. i remember being home sick watching this, staying up late watching this.... ive grown but this movie has stayed the same...
Tf happened here?
i forgot how masterpiece this is
Same
my daughter is two and she watched The Pagemaster for the 1st time the other day. It is now a movie she has to watch before bed and she has to come to the computer and watch this video. PRICELESS
Such a beautiful and magical film my granddaughter is 4 and a bit and she has a big imagination
This was my favourite film as a kid, and then as a grown-up, it was like it didn't exist! I can't find it to buy anywhere!!
This is why I love UA-cam!!!!!!! Amazing!!! Can’t believe I find it!
Ahh to be a Nineties kid. It was a magical time for us.
