Truthfully it would help me if one of you could say that it is ok that as a grown black man who grew up in this era its ok that I fell in love with this movie and still wish the world was like this. I know It's weird but It would help me so much to know there were others like me.
Don't worry, your most certainly not the only one! We are all loved by the sun regardless of race. I am always haunted and mystified by the music in this movie. Saw it was I was like 8 and still in love with it at 35...sShrugs. I guess it has an etherial timeless quality.

As a grown black woman who grew up in this era this was my favorite movie! I watched it over 1,000 times…just magical….and it still is one of my all time favorites!!

This movie, with the Tangerine Dream soundtrack, was one of the most life changing things I have ever had happen to me as it introduced me to the fantasy genre... And this was just such a magical film.

@@adearthical I have the super ultra director's uncut edition for bit the US and European releases. The score was lovely but I didn't honestly like the story all that much. Lily was kinda blah.

I love this movie. It is a beautifully crafted uncomplicated story of good vs evil, the loss of innocence and love. Don't even get me started with the brilliant music score by Tangerine Dream.

This movie is the age of wonders for a generation of a decade that had forever Classics...thing is we knew they were current Classics at the time.
In the year 2023 this is perhaps the greatest song ever composed for a feature film, simply magnificent
Tangerine Dream and Jon Anderson. No room for improvement. The Best.
Directors cut was absolute garbage and was ultimately what killed this movie internationally. US Version with Tangerine Dream soundtrack was stunning and mesmerizing and will go down in history as one of the best fantasy movies ever made. This of course is my opinion, but i think it's a solid one and most will agree %100 with me.

Theatrical version was the best. I liked the editing changes in the director's cut but the soundtrack was NOWHERE NEAR as good.

Music of the 80s was so good. This movie was such a part of my childhood. It sucks kids today would call this garbage. But anyone that grew up in this time frame would say different.

My son loved this when he was little. He is grown up now and I cry everytime I hear it.It makes me mourn all that is passing in my life. I know I should be grateful for what was…just can’t help feeling the loss…bittersweet.

victoria maikrish the songs of today do not replicate or explain the way the planets move around the Sun that's the reason why they suck now because all literature and all songs and all writing of that time revolved around astrology and astronomy.
I’m a 90’s baby but man were the 80’s such a magical decade, no wonder a lot of films and music now is trying to take so much influence back from them. You just can’t replicate this stuff, it’s euphoric.
Yeah it's sad when they try to adapt movies from that era now, while I didn't 100% hate the Robocop reboot (I even thought the reveal of what Murphy was was done BETTER in the reboot), they just end up being shallow versions of what was.
God I loved this movie soooooooooooo much. Sometimes all the pieces fall together in exactly the right place and you end up with a LEGENDARY movie. Thank you Ridley Scott & pre-Scientology Tom Cruise. THANK YOU

When I was a little girl I was transfixed by this movie and somehow had the Tangerine Dream version even tho I was in the UK... This song at the end makes the whole film and I’d be waiting for it so I could sing along with it.
You can imagine my dismay as an adult to watch the European version and not understand why the song wasn’t there! Now having researched why - I am the proud owner of the Tangerine Dream version and I can sing along whenever I want!!! (And cry haha)

To this very day Hollywood still can't replicate Darkness's costume and makeup in that movie...it died along with Ridley Scott's genius.
I legitimately didn't believe it when, years after seeing this movie on repeat as a kid, that it was Tim Curry portraying Darkness. You can barely tell it's him underneath all that makeup, but he blew that performance out of the water.
Jon Anderson's beautiful voice soars above Tangerine Dreams powerful sound...a musical feast...
We are fortunate to be able to enjoy hearing Jon's great voice.

What an enchantingly beautiful song. It was perfect as the original ending score for LEGEND when it was released to the theaters in that long-ago Summer of 1986. I can still see the people of the forest waving to Lily and Jack just before fading to the credits.

This has always been one of my favorite movies!
Actors are generally permanent adolescents and behave accordingly, but one must give Mia Sara her due: in her prime, she was an absolutely captivating young woman. Her beauty and grace while Legend was filmed are clear. Since age comes to us all, I cannot imagine what it must feel like to move past the first and second walls of peak female bloom for a girl so mesmerizing.
You know, she was like 15 when this was made. I would hardly call that her prime.
It's been a long time since I saw Legend last. A really great movie and this hauntingly beautiful song was a big part of it. Mia Sara was amazing in her few leading lady roles Legend, Ferris Bueller and Timecop with Jean Claude Van Damme.

I've seen so many movies with classical scores, Tangerine Dream & Jon Anderson of Yes were a breath of fresh air.
This is one of my most favorite movie's of all time favorite. I have this movie on DVD along with Xanadu, Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, The Last Unicorn, original Pet's Dragon, Goonies, n this just some of the movie's I have.

Grew up watching this movie, it helped my imagination grow and I plan on watching it with my son when he comes into this world. Goodness is something everyone is born with and no one can take it from you, you don't need religion or faith to be good, all you need is love and honor.

+rodeopac It's not a great movie but it's by far a terrible performance from him, just horribly casted. My guess is that he was overthinking the role and his lunchtimes with the writer were idly spent.

Tim Webb I saw this movie when it first came out in theaters in 1986 and LOVED BY THE SUN was right there at the very end of the movie just before the fade to Darkness.

So Beautiful! 30 years later, and it is still one of the most incredible sceneries I've ever seen! It's Just breath taking!
Director's cut featured Goldsmith's soundtrack which nearly last minute to it's theatrical release was scrapped and Tangerine dream was chosen to uphold the beautiful mystical feeling behind this incredible movie. Only Tangerine dream could truly capture what the director wanted hence the last minute change. Tangerine dream forever
Actually Ridley Scott said he prefers Goldsmiths score more and at the last minute they changed things, probably because the studio didnt like Goldsmiths'version. Goldsmith is a fine composer but his version was too generic and boring
Yep, it was due to screenings of the movie and pressure from the studio to create a more contemporary score. I grew up with the Tangerine Dream version, and love it, but it was released in Europe with the Goldsmith score, so that's the one they remember. RIP Edgar Froese. He created some beautiful music and memories that will live on.
Got to say, I love Jerry Goldsmith too. The Secret of Nimh was a gorgeous score, the theme we remember from Star Trek: The Next Generation (originally from the first Star Trek film) and of course the infamous and ground-breaking Planet of the Apes. Definitely an incredible talent in his own right.
maestrojon Goldsmith score just does nto carry the movie as well, imo. Ridley ofc disagrees. BTW Goldsmith almost bungled STtMP's score. He almost didn't have a main theme to it, until Roddenberry and an associate viewed the drydock scene, found the music to be merely ambling along, and went ":Where's the theme?" Goldsmith revamped it and added the awesome main theme that everyone now knows.
CliventheTraveller Cool info, I didn't know that. That dry dock scene was waaaaay too long though. I'd have a problem composing for that too. haha.
