I can say I've met Larry in person and what a great guy with an interesting history. Thanks for the video, glad you got to play in the snow a bit.
Very helpful. Didn't know you needed a 32mm for Axel nut but everything else was so helpful
great vid bra! love the flow and clarity! subscribed!
Thanks Paul welcome to the channel. Happy to have you brother.
To make life a little easier but adds a step, you can also unbolt the ball joint and pry it down and out. From there you can push the axle all the way out of the hub to give plenty of room to deal with the backside bolts holding in the hub assembly.
Very good and helpful
"Just push the axle out a bit if you cant get to the head of the bolts."
Right. I'm on my second front wheel bearing replacement on my Journey, and both times the axle has completely seized in the hub. It takes a ton of beating and swearing before you can get to the 15mm bolts that secure the hub. Other than that, nice video. But that is the problem most people are going to encounter in this repair, it would be good if that part had been shown.
Yeah you know sometimes we miss stuff I try to film every little aspect of it but thanks for letting us know we appreciate it James have a great day
I take a steel 12" pipe wrench bite on the hub and give the back of the Jaw a good smack with a hammer, always works
remember to tie up the brake caliper with a zip tie or coat hanger so you dont damage the brake line!
Omfg pre-madonna lol just messing but seriously do you work on cars min of 40 hrs a week? Ya thought not. First off if the caliper bracket and brake pads are not attached to the caliper there is no definite reason to hang shit and that's a steel caliper also. Even a double piston big for or dodge.
The main reason to hang a caliper is that the hose isn't forced to a 90 degree bend and even then if it's a problem to the hose then ur really fkn dumb and the hose should have been changed long tf ago. Most calipers these days are aluminum or an alloy much lighter than steel so again without the bracket and pads you've got no worries. See idiots hit the caliper beating rotors bearings ball joints tie rods axels I hope you flipping get it by now.
The one n only thing that every single ftard in life and on UA-cam is damn smart yet never even know realize or believe they need tf to do is very fkn simple. If your the Mr by the book hang a fkn half pound aluminum caliper then you surely will be torquing the axel so don't forget to antisieze the hub mounting area on the knuckle only after cleaning it the knuckle that is and lightly surfacing the hub surface mount of knuckle ummmm well ya see your supposed to torque the fkn bearing under a resting load like car on the fkn ground. I mean why tf else are there alwalys holes and fkn caps in the middle of every rim? And if your stupid slow simple enough might this be a reason no fkn person ever to live has ever once replaced a wheel bearing and had it last near the time or mileage of an original I'll bet all I've ever owned. Unless from factory they're fked like focus rears series one focus. Even then guess tf what? They all still lasted past 50k miles and factory chassis warranty. There is one more extremely definitive reason factory outlasts replacements and if ya can tell me I'll gladly cash app anyone 50 bucks, anyone!!! That's how sure I am that I was just as fkn stupid as the rest at one point. 50 bucks if you guess what one step costing a few cents can make the cheapest bearing outlast factory original? Offer stands till midnight on Monday Eve. Feb 14 smh stupid Valentine's day B's of 2023. Bet ya stay stupid n very slow bet 50 bucks on it. Good luck don't kill yourself thinking too simple!!!
Basicly your both ftards lmfao
Well, if any of you knew anything about UA-cam, you know exactly why I hung that caliper that way. So I don’t personally care, but I knew exactly what I was doing and why I did it.
Hi 2017 dodge journey 4 cylinder front bearing same process?
Was size socket for the axle nut?
Those lugs make you bring back things you never stole.
On a 2017 dodge journey awd I have seen axle nut torque specs ranging from 97 lbs to 180 lbs.. Any idea if your quoted spec (118) is valid for the 2017?
I do not know the torque specifications off the top of my head.
From my research it appears the torque specs are 118 ft/lbs for the front axle nuts , 180 ft/lbs for rear axle nuts.
@@jeffschiefelbein225 absolutely. Thanks
That was flipping hilarious! Great video!
Thank you 😂
Missed a few steps like axle nut removal .using a puller to press in the axle shaft and torque specs on the axle nut. Info needed for the do it yourself!!!
Well I’m not perfect I’m sorry about that I don’t often give torque specifications because I will get somebody who says you told me it was “85 foot pounds and I wrote online it was 95” I’m sorry I wish my video would’ve been more help for you
What size is the axle nut
Did you have an abs light or traction control light
Very sorry I don’t remember but generally your ABS light your brake light and your ESP light will be on at the same time if you have a faulty sensor.
I've heard some people say replace the axle nut and others say it's ok to reuse it....what's correct?
I personally reuse them all the time only time I replace them is when I replace the axle.
Thanks brother. Bout to tackle this project & that was the only thing hanging me up. Appreciate the reply
I should also mention you should take a look at the threads just in case you didn’t already know that most people do but I do consider that there’s a possibility that you may not if the threads look straight inside the nut and on the axle itself you shouldn’t have a problem
@@sharpcarco will do, thanks again
Why would you let the caliper hang by the brake line. Common sense...don't let it hang by the brake line. That's how you destroy brake lines
Just a mistake.... like everyone else makes .... the good thing if it did break ( and no it has not broke yet ) But if It did I would just make video of fixing it... talking up more of my trying to help strangers for nothing but the satisfaction of saving them money and sharing my god given gift . oh well at least your feeling better for letting us know we are not perfect like just like everyone else ..... god bless I do truly wish you the best.
Hey my man I was wondering where your shop is in grand Rapids I live in kzoo an I need the same thing done on my 2010 dodge journey R/T awd
Hi zack reach out to me on Clays AC and auto repair on the Facebook. I’m certain I can help you with that situation just give me a message and I will throw you my cell phone number
Did your ride have to have an ABS plug in wire?
If that wheel is ABS you do need that plug the bearing will work but you will have an ABS light on…
Wouuld it be almost the same for my 2014?
I’m 99% sure it will be actually the procedure is pretty much the same on just about any vehicle that has the cartridge style wheel bearing hub assembly.
Awesome. thanks
Front hub
What's the socket dimensions of the center axel nut?
I’m sorry man I don’t remember I wish I could be of more help
32mm
1 1/4" socket works too
This basically shows you how to do it and yet people still act like you gatta show like an hour long video
You are absolutely correct! , I realized over the years of doing UA-cam videos that most people don’t know anything about working on their car.
And it’s one of them things the cup is either half empty or half full you either get a guy who knows mostly what he’s got to do or a guy that knows absolutely nothing about what they have to do. It’s really a catch 22 you’re damned if you do and you’re damned if you don’t.
And the only way to make money off of UA-cam is to have audience retention and views so if you make a really long video you don’t make any money because people will only watch a couple of minutes. If you make two short video and forget something people will stone you to death. I try to take it with a grain of salt but I do also take the criticism to heart and certainly try to make the best videos I can with constant improvement I appreciate you taking the time to write your message to me God bless and have a great day.
Can't break what's already broken? 😂 I'd like to introduce you to my Luck. Luck say hi...Hello I'm here to fubar everything possible and then more. Oh and I'm great with cuts and bruises. 😊
Hit it like a man
Yeah 60$ 4 years ago maybe
If that’s what I said they cost that’s what they cost me… I can’t help that somebody printed a bunch of money, and gave it away.. making it worth a lot less than it was worth.. but at least everybody at McDonald’s is making $15 an hour now.. even though they’re probably actually making less
ABS sensor? Grease? Missing too many steps
Grease on the ABS sensor would make it collect dust and metal shavings. I don’t recommend it. I’ve honestly never read anywhere that you put grease on the ABS sensor but maybe I misunderstanding what you’re saying.
@@sharpcarco would you put antiseize on the axle spines and maybe around the hole
Once again it would just end up collecting dust and dirt and more than likely make the axle not come on seated quite as easy. But it could go either way. personally I do not do them things. but different mechanics have different opinions. I’m not always right about the things that I do. And I’m never too old to learn things . I just do things the way I’ve been doing them . But I appreciate the comment and respect your position. God bless have the best of days
We're did you buy it for $60.00 😐
I own an auto repair shop so prices are considerably cheaper for me.
