I had a hell of a time getting the old one off. There was a lot of rust and crap that had it stuck. I finally took a huge sharp chisel and a big ass sledge hammer and got it off. I put the chisel right where the triangle part of the hub meets the mount. Right where the dust shield is sandwiched between them. I held the chisel there and hit it hard as hell with the sledge hammer. I reset the chisel each time and made careful deliberate hits with the sledge hammer. It finally came out.

Reminds me of vehicle I recently worked on . The rotors and hubs were seized and even with the sub frame out I was using an 8lb sledge . The hubs were like glued inside with rust and corrosion. I was thinking to myself at the time there was no way I would have got them out with them on the vehicle. Thank you for sharing and thanks for watching.

This video was very helpful for my 2012 1500 2WD. The first side took 2 hours. The second side took 6 hours. You can keep the wheels straight and a good torque wrench works to get all the bolts out. The problem is the hub stuck in the knuckle. The trick that worked for me (I don't have a torch) was to dremel the dust shield in two places and without the 3 bolts, you can hammer the dust shield off. This leaves a 1/16" gap for PB Blaster to get down into everything. Then using a wedge, separate the hub from the knuckle by prying into the space left over from the removed dust shield. A pair of new dust shields are $50 a Autozone and look better anyways. Great Video, Thanks a lot.

Took me 5 hrs to figure out a torch was the only way to go. It was like they installed it with some kind of adhesive. 5 minutes of heat and it took 3 or 4 good licks to come out. I have a straight air/acetylene rig that has a very wide flame pattern. I wouldn't recommend oxy/acetylene right off the top

Thank you for posting this. I just changed the wheel bearing on my 06 Ram 1500 2wd today. Your video was most helpful because it was for a 2wd. I turned my wheel full to the left to reach the forward bolt. Also sprayed everything with aerokroil 2 days prior which may have helped loosen things up. Ill change the other side next week. Subscribed!

Finished mine. Hardest part was the ABS quick disconnect. Those things are so sticky...and I wanted to avoid breaking the plastic.
All the bolts were fairly routine.
Also, my version with ABS(2004) only had the drivers side with the ABS sensor lead. The passenger side was without.

A note to all how repair in driveway . You do not have to remove the axle or balljounts on a 4x4 .
This should be simple to do if you can do brakes. Should only take 2 hours a side

Crawl underneath and see if there is a wire going into the hub assembly. It depends on whether it's abs or non abs. Wire = abs. If it is non abs it will be the same . The abs are more year specific. Here is a link to both.(replace in pairs) Thank you for watching.

I would just note 3000 for one of these now days is a great deal. If taken care of these are great trucks and really seem to last. Thanks for the feedback.

I think you should be using blue loctite, not red for that. Red is for more permanent bonds. Ive had to change my hubs a couple time since ive had my truck, blue is removable and better for this scenario.

    • @s33therfan

If it is 4x4 it makes accessing the bolts holding the hub easier but not necessary as long as you can get to them. In this case mine is 2wd drive so there was no front axles. Great question and thanks for watching.

    • @s33therfan

They are the same. When manufactoring I suppose it is easier to make them all 4wd compatible. Makes no difference though , you will notice the inside of the hub can accept a cv axle . Great question and thanks for the feedback.

No , these will just cause a grinding noise and vibration. Just throwing this out there if yours shuts off randomly you might take a look at the O2 sensors. For some reason these trucks have been known to have issues with these. Hope you get it solved and thanks for the feedback.
