Been working this into my swing and finding lots of benefits! Hands stay more centerd in font of chest in backswing. Am able to improve arm structure throughout and and sling club more efficiently consistently with torso driven swing! Thank you for a very very good lesson vid!!!
Knapp is a giant muscly rubber band. Look at that full rotation. Look at his hands too. So much speed comes effortlessly from the hands. He is the total package for effortless looking power.
I (ma2) played in a few tournaments back in co years ago when he was 16-17 (mpo, lol) and watching him absolutely bomb the soccer fields up at cmc in glennwood before a round was one of the most awe inspiring moments I’ve ever had. He and his friends were just messing around, doing 360 run ups throwing farther than I’d ever seen a disc fly-especially at high altitude. Made me instantly feel my limitations haha
This was a light bulb moment for me. I’ve been working on getting width in my backswing but mainly through shoulder stretch. Once I engaged and felt the stretch in the lats it made getting wider much more effortless while not feeling stiff armed.
Great insight. I'm a mid handicapper and I play a few good shots every round. By far the best shots in terms of distance and direction are those where I can get that back shoulder muscle stretching and then time everything to hit the ball flush. It literally feels like there's an elastic band in my shoulder which just snaps causing my arms and club to accelerate effortlessly. Unfortunately I'm not good enough to repeat it consistently. But the feeling! 😘
I got to know a near tour quality pro in Florida. He tried to qualify for the tour several times. His swing looked totally effortless to everyone. And he knew that. But he fold me that he was swinging really hard when he got down through impact. He said, "people just can't see that". If you could talk him into it, he would hit drivers with his right hand only on the club. A one armed swing. He drilled them close to 300 yards. He did not do that often because everybody wanted to see it. It was amazing. He had muscle strength that was invisible. I followed him around for 36 holes at Bay Hill. He was in the finals for a spot in the U.S. Open. He did not make it. He had 7 of 7 sand saves so he had a short game too. He had a caddy who was very negative. I think that may have caused him a birth. You can't have that.
Thanks Zach really good insight, as a 60 y.o. who always wants to improve I have subscribed! I love Jake's swing wow it is seemingly the way to swing, I see now that even if you possess a good elastic band, if you don't stretch it, it's not going to help!
The “stretch” feeling that you’re talking about just made so many things click in my brain, and golf swing. It feels so much more natural. Thumbs up great vid
Yes..younger you're stronger, as you get older with less turn just "copy this movement best you can" to get the ball more times in the fairway and adding yards!
Flexibility is a major factor as well as long arms. Look at Daly, Couples, Els, & Watson. They're arms are fully extended by the time they're hip high & far away from the body & way past a 90° shoulder turn. How many other players can do that, even among pros? I don't think I could sequence a swing that long. Must be nice!
Been watching your videos for a long time and instruction has been great. How you only have 85k subs only is beyond me. Thanks for all the tips over the years! 💯👍
In telling you though the thing to appreciate is the natural stretch and whip he creates is what gives him %97 percent of his power, the muscles are just to stay in shape prevent injury and probably look good. Guys like him or Rory or Tiger hit the ball as far when they were 17 years old and very little muscle. But they knew how to crack a whip.
I tried this at the range today and everything from P to driver was hit further than normal. The wide stretchy back swing makes it easier for me to drop the club into the slot naturally.
he gets a full turn and is way more jacked than youre giving him credit for lol. he's probably one of the most ripped dudes on tour right now. all of that combined with tons of hard work and being able to hole a bunch of putts, and you have jake knapp. pretty simple. next to impossible to replicate for the average golfer.
You are correct he is jacked. But he hast lost that effortless whip that he learned as a kid. Most of the people I teach in person do not have that in there swing. Pretty much anyone who drives it 220 or less, or comes over the top, casts, flips, or early extends excessively, this whip does not exist.
Yes. Zach is 100% correct. Living proof. When I tighten the arms and "try" to hit the ball hard I'm lucky to get 220 yds out of my drive. When I feel the shoulder and lats engage with a short swing and this sinking into the ground feeling with relaxed arms its effortless. Unfortunately its counterintuitive and very difficult to train into my swing. Generally my 3 wood will go 230-240 and drive 260-270. Very hard to repeat because of the hitting reflex.
None of the tour pros are replicable by amateurs. That's why they're pros and we're not. But there are small takeaways from each pro's swing that we can try to incorporate. Thats all Zach is doing here.
"Not a big guy.. worked as a bouncer" 😂 Tbf he's not the biggest on tour but he is tall and broad for that size so I do think he can be described as "not big".
Wide to narrow is old style, it's wide to wide. Check out ernie els. His arc is wider on the way down!! He uses those long arms to keep pushing the club away from him not towards him. Hogan wrote that I. His book and everyone jumped on it.
Really hot on the trail to figure out the effortless swing . Better with irons but having trouble with driver specifically and I’m locking my wrists which I know is no good . Not because it’s creating wrist pain but as I understand I need to create wrist hinge as I’m hinging the wrists I’m slicing really bad
A wrist hinge isn't causing a slice unless you're allowing your wrist to cup which opens the face as well as likely swinging from the outside on the downswing caused by being too steep at the top.
So many people in the comments think power comes from arm muscles which just proves they know nothing about the golf swing. Look at Akshay Bhatia: power in the golf swing comes from flexibility and path, not “being jacked.”
What are Jake's wrists doing at transition? It looks like he gets a ton of power by letting his wrists collapse at the top way more than what anyone would teach...
At the top during the transition he fully cocks the wrists almost like Daly/Couples to get more lag in the downswing imo. Having a medium lighter grip helps
Great vid bud. The dummies going on about how jacked he is has nothing to do with speed. Did ye see stick boy throwing the Frisby, same move dum dums. It's all technique.
“not a big guy”. Idk, I saw him in person and while he was not tall, the dude is ripped and muscle bound. He is an athlete. That said, there does appear to be a lot of suppleness to his swing.
Effort creates tension, and we end up pulling the arms, or dragging the club. Trying to make your body more elastic can really help this. Even just the imagery of it.
This is very true, maybe a better way to say it is more controlled, smooth, balanced, well timed but ends up feeling like less effort but more distance.
Then maybe practice it for an hour a week if you can and "copy it the best you can at Any Age" to get benefits of any type to get the ball farther and straighter.
one hit wonder knapp, can't hit a fairway unless its 40 yds wide, he'll be back on korn ferry in 2 years unless he can win another "non signature" event which is basically a korn ferry event with pga tour privileges for the winner.
Then copy the shoulder stretch "the best you can" at any level, handicap or age to get some benefits which may result in hitting the ball farther and straighter!

Very true.
Definitely crazy fast hands & wrists along with big time flexibility & long arms.
Eagle McMahon's throw is a thing of beauty. I'm glad you used him as an example.
Great insight thanks.

"Typical amateur" shows a 90 year old Korean man. We amateurs deserve a better ambassador 😅
I beg to differ he’s only like 75 🤣
Killed me as well.😂Let’s take the worst amateur on the planet and compare him to a PGA superstar!
@@noomadegreat response
@@noomade Exactly, he's maybe 75 but many many amateurs you see at the range everyday of "all ages" have this typical swing, it's just an example.
Haaaaaa! Love it. But don't forget, 95% of golfers never break 100! (like me)! We might look a little better but we still stink it up!

That sounds like a great drill/feel
The “stretch” feeling that you’re talking about just made so many things click in my brain, and golf swing. It feels so much more natural.

Great to hear!
the most important take away here for effortless power is: be young. be strong.
Doesn’t hurt, but we all are getting older and it’s fun to try and find some extra yardage.
Yes..younger you're stronger, as you get older with less turn just "copy this movement best you can" to get the ball more times in the fairway and adding yards!
@@ZachAllenGolf Exactly! I am 63 and still hit my driver way over 300 yards, sometimes 400. Only it takes me two shots....

i just started with the speed sticks and I'm looking forward to adding this drill/stretch, thanks!
Hope you enjoy it!
Been watching your videos for a long time and instruction has been great. How you only have 85k subs only is beyond me. Thanks for all the tips over the years! 💯👍
OMG! Look at the muscles in that kid's arms!!! Holy smoke! No wonder he hits the ball a mile.
I don't believe that muscles are a big factor. Flexibility is the key.
Great observations and in turn great instructions
big fan of your videos because you use other sports to explain the golf swing! Would love to see any tips for tennis players!
Jake is a big guy. He is literally the definition of a big guy. For a pro golfer he is jacked out of his marbles.
He is listed at 5’11” 160 lbs.
Plenty of breakdown foci in backswing, and sequencing well , down & thru, tough to do! Study & practice class!
Thanks Coach!
I tried this at the range today and everything from P to driver was hit further than normal. The wide stretchy back swing makes it easier for me to drop the club into the slot naturally.
Good analysis!
Thanks 🙏🏾
Awesome shoutout to and example of Eagle McMahon!!
Great stuff. thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
You have my attention with Eagle Winn McMaahan. Next time, just "disc golf" will work, no need to mention the word Frisbee 😂😂😂😂
he gets a full turn and is way more jacked than youre giving him credit for lol. he's probably one of the most ripped dudes on tour right now. all of that combined with tons of hard work and being able to hole a bunch of putts, and you have jake knapp. pretty simple. next to impossible to replicate for the average golfer.

I don't believe his over swing style can be consistent enough to win majors😅
Good stuff bud.
Glad you enjoyed
knapp is jacked like a small-school D1 Safety
Judging from his arms, he is very muscular! Most muscular guys can't swing well, but it's an asset he knows how to use. I DO like his fluid swing!
I believe that flexibility is a major factor along with long arms.
Really good content....thanks for posting
Interesting motion. I will try it out….

This is one of the best swings ever imo
He’s not a big guy. Also he was working as a bouncer.
Does this apply to iron swings also?
Yes indeed.
Why Jake got 12 on that part 5 at Arnold Palmer invitation 😅
My man Eagle McMahon, nice vid
I'm working on it. 👏👏👏👍
I can tell you thrown a disc... good on ya.
Watch his forearm, the rotator cuff muscles bring his arm down with immense power, the rest of his arm follows like a whip.
He may not look big, but he’s strong and muscular!
So many people in the comments think power comes from arm muscles which just proves they know nothing about the golf swing. Look at Akshay Bhatia: power in the golf swing comes from flexibility and path, not “being jacked.”
Exactly!
Rroy swing speed is around 130 mph if his swing speed was 180 he would be hitting drive over 500 yards his BALL speed may be 180 theres a difference.
At my best I am 165mph ball speed. So 180 club head speed got me curious too
I believe he meant ball speed & not swing speed. With a driver he's around 127.
That was eagle, the disc golfer. He's right handed
Thank you
This guy is ripped, that might help
What about that flying right elbow? Like John Daley.
That can definitely work. Bubba is another example. But you must get it back down.
Fred Couples is another but most pro golfers keep the elbow tucked in a bit. The flying elbow also works for Bubba and Daly..
@@1Mannco and Jack and a bunch of others. Keeping it in is a power loss.
& Couples & Nicklaus as well.
He’s kind of lanky too that makes a big radius faster head speed.
Dude has killer lats!
He is definitely built
Flexibility is the key.
Great video Zach…ignore the ankle biters in the comments. 😂
Thanks my friend
If you are going to compare Knapp to an amateur, don't make it an infirm old Asian man
What are Jake's wrists doing at transition? It looks like he gets a ton of power by letting his wrists collapse at the top way more than what anyone would teach...
True he really lets his hands get close to his body in transition. Which allows him to turn even faster. A lot like disc golfers do.
At the top during the transition he fully cocks the wrists almost like Daly/Couples to get more lag in the downswing imo. Having a medium lighter grip helps
Definitely fast hands through impact. Woods said fast hands were more important than body rotation. He was long in his youth as well.
He's getting all his power from his lead leg. He's pushing against the ground. See Mike malaska videos that's what he teaches
Great video, But wrong about Jake! He looks a powerful athlete to me, plus bouncers are not small and weak!
Great vid bud. The dummies going on about how jacked he is has nothing to do with speed. Did ye see stick boy throwing the Frisby, same move dum dums. It's all technique.
Mission accepted….. to be continued.
I’m sure you meant his ball speed is 190mph not swing speed
Yes sorry.
"His driver swing cruises around 190mph" 😅
Jake has huge lats ! He can probably do 20 + pull ups .
he's maximizing distance and lag
Be rubber
Good point.
Now go watch a video on how extending the right elbow away from the body drains power lol 😮😅😂😂😂
Height - strong core - full swing
Ton of lag which I believe you have or don't.
Bro his ball speed is 190 maybe. Club speed not even close . Maybe 123 maybe
physically impossible to swing 123mph and hit a ball 190mph. more like 130
Lol he said jake has a slender frame? Dude is on so much gear, hes slender compared to the rock?
“not a big guy”. Idk, I saw him in person and while he was not tall, the dude is ripped and muscle bound. He is an athlete.
That said, there does appear to be a lot of suppleness to his swing.
Great point, he’s definitely a great combo of supple and strong.
His backswing is almost as long as john dalys
Right, not as long as Daly but maybe more like Fred Couples.
He ain't swinging the club at 190 bro, that's dumb.
we know what he meant.....
If he’s maxing out his smash factor his club head speed is probably around 126 or so.
And he's not a big guy, well 3 years ago he was working as a bouncer.... Wait what
can he putt
Why "effortless" power? The only way I can lose weight is to give "effort". I can live in the 210 range if I drop 20 on the scale...
Effort creates tension, and we end up pulling the arms, or dragging the club. Trying to make your body more elastic can really help this. Even just the imagery of it.
He’s pretty over the top
Looks a bit like Hogan…
There's no such thing as an effortless golf swing. Efficient, sure.
This is very true, maybe a better way to say it is more controlled, smooth, balanced, well timed but ends up feeling like less effort but more distance.
Holy shit could you pick any worse of an amatuer?
Made the point 😂
Good insight. Fyi, that t-shirt wasn’t tight fitting. That’s how a shirt should fit, unlike your purple polo at the end.
This is not a swing for amateurs who can’t practice more than a couple hours a week. This is for finely tuned athletes.
Then maybe practice it for an hour a week if you can and "copy it the best you can at Any Age" to get benefits of any type to get the ball farther and straighter.
The key is the float load or increasing the lead wrist angle on the down swing. Your missing the truth.
And no 180-190 mph drivers. Bryson has the second highest speed at 127-130mph.
Was talking ball speed not clubhead.
one hit wonder knapp, can't hit a fairway unless its 40 yds wide, he'll be back on korn ferry in 2 years unless he can win another "non signature" event which is basically a korn ferry event with pga tour privileges for the winner.
this is just "float load" - you need to be flexible and kinda supple and rotate a lot. it is not terribly accurate and is timing based.
He's not a big guy, oh yeah he used to work as a bouncer, and has giant chiseled muscles about to rip out of his shirt
Dumbest video ever! "He swings fast so you should do that too."
Then copy the shoulder stretch "the best you can" at any level, handicap or age to get some benefits which may result in hitting the ball farther and straighter!
Great
Thanks
but Rory’s a big guy??
