full disclosure - we were originally planning to do a full range session but we got Fred on a bad back day. he didn't want to push it with full swings but was still very game to hit some short-game shots, so we took things to the chipping green. it's a different feel than others in this series but I hope you guys dig it!
Fred Couples is a national treasure. He is the reason why I started to play golf as kid. I remember taping his rounds on VHS (yes ... VHS) and watching him over and over again. I can't imagine what it would be like to get to talk him for a little while.
Fred Couples was and still is my all time favorite golf player, I follow his career since I've been playing golf. he has the most fluent golf swing I ever seen and tried to copy .
Dont get me wrong, I envy the speed and power of today's players, but will forever be totally mesmerized by the fluidity of Couples and Els. If golf were poetry, they'd be the Longfellows😊
My grandmother started taking me to Jefferson Park when I was 5. It’s where I started my love of golf. I’m 52 now, been playing golf my entire life and haven’t been back there since I was 9. It’s time to go!
Fred has a pad in Newport Beach at Deep Canyon and a winter place at the exclusive Madison Club in La Quinta. I walked along with Fred and Corey Pavin in their Pro debut at the Queen Mary open in Long Beach Calif. No ropes no crowds....players were friendly. Fred was carrying his Houston team golf bag.
Love watching Freddie swing the club. It's like poetry in motion. Reminds me of my late Uncle Bob, smooth as silk. I especially like picking up a club after watching him.
@billmoyer3254 And why would Fred Couples care? He is 64 years old and plays on the Champions Tour. I don’t think he’s upset about missing out on playing in shorts with bad country music playing in the background
It is weird how we remember phenomenal shots from years ago. At the Tiger Shoot Out at Sherwood in So CA. there was a steep hole with very elevated small green; it may have been a par 5 or long 4. Freddy drove the ball to the left edge of the fairway with a big tree guarding the green. I thought to myself "he won't be able to hit this green". He took out what looked like a long iron and hit a very high sweeping hook, around the tree that landed softly on the green near the flag! It was amazing standing by the green looking way down the fairway as the ball dropped.
Undoubtedly the most natural, effortless swing ever on the PGA tour. The swing that the majority of amateur golfers want to emulate. Yes…poetry in motion.
Fred’s swing is so relaxed! I can feel it! I have a lot of tension in my swing and it’s something that’s crept in the last three years! I’m great on the range and at home. I just get tense on the course. When I think of Fred it calms me. A work in progress.
I started using Bridgestone balls last year exclusively. Really love them. It’s very important to use the same ball and it took me over 30 years to start doing that.
I too love and admire Trevino. He was the reason I always wore a Top Flite hat. I hit Top Flite Z Balata balls that were real good for chipping and putting back in the day! I would love to hear what kind of balls guys hit years back; there were lots of good ones. I think of the old Maxfli A-10s which were hot; kind of scarry to put with.
Saw Palmer at the Seniors' in Napa at Silverado. He was great in talking to the fans. I always loved watching Lee walk fast down the fairway, then suddenly take his stance and he seemed not to even stop before his low fade swing was in progress. Loved his shot making. He too was at Silverado with caddie Herman (that's how long ago this was). As he walked up to the tee he never stopped talking.
Boom boom was always a player I idolized growing up, and his swing I worked to perfection during my hay day. Little cut, smooth power, strong follow through etc. it always killed me his back issues as I’m sure he’d have several majors if it were not for that back but what a cool guy and so much fun to listen to. Thanks for the great video, really like these. 👍
You would not believe how competitive he is. He was playing with two friends in Vegas and from the first tee to the last green the back & forth never stopped. You could tell one guy in the group could really hit a ball and he would poke FC. So enjoyable to see and we were up close the entire time. They had a chipping contest every hole and this one friend won 17 of them. FC was wonderful taking pic with a small group of us after the round. A shoutout to him for the best golf entertainment Ive ever been around. Truly two very good friends he enjoyed.
Fred Couples IMO is one of the last of the great Golf Showmen that learned about the game from Palmer, Nicklas, Player, Trevino ect. He came up when you needed personality and talent to be a pro golfer on the tour to have a good amount of success. Fred become and icon on the tour back in the early 90's and the Masters win cemented his place in golf. Its too bad his back problems which really flared up at Doral back in the 90's seem to derail his win column, but it did not hamper his showman and fan favorite status at all. If you go to a pro tournament you always want to see Freddy Couples at the range or out on the course.
Fred is also the reason I started playing golf. I don't think there is a golfer on tour that is not friends with Fred. When a guy is that liked and that respected by his competitors tells you all you need to know about this gentlemen. He will alsways be my favorite golfer. If he did not have a bad back I think he wins several more majors.
Never watched a lot of golf when younger…yet Fred Couples was a name everyone that ever swung a club had heard of … till recently he was just one of those pros who i use to hear mentioned a lot back in the day …now ,im old(er) ,and the advent of youtube and channels like this ….an i am Like a Fred Couples junkie when i see his name in a video title 😬. This guy is just so likeable ,and that smooth swing which looks like what a swing is suppose to look… .smooth ,effortless ,no tension and stress free! All the opposite of my swing 😜
On the topic of the Ryder Cup, to hear Fred say the result was 'shocking,' is a surprise to me. If you look at how most of the top American tour players play, it's easy to understand why they struggle when the Ryder Cup is contested in Europe. The PGA Tour promotes a bomb and gouge style of play; hit it as far as you can off the tee, gouge a wedge out of the rough or fairway and shoot 3-5 under without much effort. The Euros set their courses up to discourage that and force the Americans to either play out of really difficult rough, or hit longer clubs into the greens, which is not their strength. Course setup vs. style of play is what kills the Americans, plain and simple!
The best,My favorite for many years, know matter where or for what, im routing for Freddy to take that W home! one piont in my life I actually thought my swing looked like Freddy's, until I filmed it, omg i could not stop laughing at how bad it looked and how far off It actually was ,HaHaHa, Tiger does a great immatation of Freddy's swing, very slow, and so tention free, it was on some range ,I believe before a tournament. but very funny! Golf to me is all feel no mechanics, either your an Athlete or your not, next time your at a public course at the range, stop look around for a few minutes and you won't believe what your watching, lol lol we all come back for those 3 perfect shots every round,, Thank you for all the excitement throughout your career!
I tuned in for Fred. I got a bunch of interrupted blurts and quips from the interviewer …. It’s Almost a comedy skit with this guy interrupting the subject. F.
I love Freddie's swing, but thought you guys might also enjoy Seve's syrupy swing. He is hitting at the human ball pickers... enjoy...ua-cam.com/video/bu24-_pW64I/v-deo.html
Guess what Fred,, Tiger actually does it just like you! He doesn't pick a spot of the green to land his pitch & chip shots. He feels them! Have seen him say it on multiple interviews
Love Fred, but I ignore his advice because it's advice for a strong-gripped, smooth tempo, flippy Fred Couples and it's wired in his DNA. Beautiful to watch.
full disclosure - we were originally planning to do a full range session but we got Fred on a bad back day. he didn't want to push it with full swings but was still very game to hit some short-game shots, so we took things to the chipping green. it's a different feel than others in this series but I hope you guys dig it!

I’m just
@golfcom please please tell Fred about the RINGDINGER it will fix his back PLEASE PLEASE TELL HIM!!!!! #teamringdinger
This is perfect. Shots are shots, listening to Boom Boom talk about golf and all of his amazing interactions with the golf worlds best is gold.
Superb..what a gem.

He just always seems like a normal guy. He wears his celebrity so lightly.
I see a Freddie swing video, I find my inner peace. Smooth as silk.

Right on; The Big Easy"! I am a tall guy like Ernie and he was my golf idol and I tried to emulate him. You guesses it, it never happened!
@@carlcampbell6827Ernie has always been my swing model. So smooth and still plenty of power.

Fred Couple has revolutionized “Zen golf” swing. I’m learning to have no tension. Golf has become my therapy through Fred. Great video!!!!
I’ve been begging for this video for years now thank you so much. My favorite player and host being a local Seattle guy myself
Always love listening to Fred and his swing is to die for.

I love how Freddie kind of leads this guy through the interview.
haha, completely
Love watching Freddie swing the club. It's like poetry in motion. Reminds me of my late Uncle Bob, smooth as silk. I especially like picking up a club after watching him.
Fred is just pure class. Golf is truelly blessed to have such great guys as ambassadors.
LIV has banned Freddy.

Fred Couples has one of the most beautiful golf game. Just a beautiful golf swing and swagger..

Loved following him around when he played the Westchester Classic in NY. Pulling for him at Augusta.
As loud music and me first takes over golf... Nice to know Freddy still out there
What a LEGEND
One of my all time favorite pros
This is a Master class from a Master ball striker.
Watched him play in the chub, great shots out of him. He just smooths everything.
Jim Nantz can thank Freddy for his career! It’s a great story!
"How are you Fred?" That's a loaded first question. Lol. Most people will just say, "good" just like Fred did.
Great video! Freddie is the just coolest.
Anyone have video of Fred chipping one handed at the Houston Open?

Fred Couples is the coolest PGA tour player for sure!
Fred says "I'm not that good" then proceeded to pitch a 30+ yarder to 3 feet during a warm up.
I thought this interview was well done. Favorite golfer Mr Fred Couples
Boom boom has a serious silky smooth looking swing even when he misses it? Long time crazy good tour player.
When I'm too afraid to file my expense reports i come here and watch Fred do his thing
Nice job. Guys at this talent level are fun to listen to. Agree Lee T is a national treasure.
When im not hitting it well or getting to fast, just watch some freddie.

Love Fred, went to a skins game as a kid with him, tiger, Phil, and Mark O’meara and he was the only one who signed my hat 😂
I understand what you are saying. When you are a tour spectator and see these guys up close you realize they are very tough characters!
Hey host, let Freddy talk!!! You kept interupting him! Just acknowledge what he says with simple words like: hmmm, right, okay..
