And step response along with spectral decay to see if there's any stored energy in the coaxial driver. Maybe post the raw REW file?😅 I'm currently planning on building something similar to this but with a lot more woofers to increase the quality of the bass (200hz and down), using SB Acoustics's Satori drivers. SB Acoustics's coaxial driver is using a paper cone instead of a hard cone, so I would love to have a comparison to my planned build (I can't buy SEAS Coaxial driver in my country). My plan is to have at least 4 woofers and 1 subwoofer and the coaxial itself. The subwoofer driver is used to do cardioid pattern for bass, OR to cancel a room mode selectively. Well, great video about this speaker, maybe make a supercharged version of this next year?
Hello, first I want to thank you for the cool video. I plan to build the same kit but with the hypex fusion 503. I would install the amp behind my fushmout in an extra case. I have a question about your monitor controller. Which one do you use to control digital signals?
I use an analog monitor controller that feeds the speaker an XLR. To use the on board DAC you pretty much need the optional remote control for the speakers. It's an affordable IR remote kit and you can use one remote to control both speakers. The amp software let's you set up the turn on volume, time out timer, etc. but you need a remote to easily adjust the volume and presets from your listening position
The adjustment period is very brief. It's more or less just getting used to how truly neutral they are and being able to hear all 20-20k all at once. They are A LOT more detailed than the Amphions. Dialing in the low end for my room is what really really made these worth their very heavy weight in gold.
I sold mine on Sweetwater Used Gear. Great place to sell and they help by selling subsidized shipping labels so to mail my One18 crate, which I thought was going to be hundreds in shipping ended up being like $45 purchasing the shipping label from them! You gotta let me know if you build these out!
There's a couple of things I would change it's not good having the subwoofer on the front like that, specially in small spaces will cause more cancellation, what you're trying to correct with DSP and that does lose something, if it could be mounted on the inside with rounded off edges baffle slightly! would be better. of course you're limiting your internal volume what is not good so the box would need to be made bigger subwoofer section and talking about the box it seems a bit small for a subwoofer what's it 35 liters taking in count of the driver in that, I would say have something like 81 L would be a better approach, and separate from the mid range sitting on top in its own enclosure with dampening, I don't find an issue with the coaxial driver I think that's probably fine. Having the bigger chamber will allow you to cross it over at a say 240+ Hz and still achieving the base at lower frequencies and even getting lower than 20 Hz should be achieved possibly could even get down to 16Hz. try using natural lambswool in it as well try both but definitely the bass driver chamber, Mount the amplifier in the top unit not the base unit causes a lot of stress shortens its life even if it's enclosed separately. You said that there was a floor standing version and with radiators on the side, I can't find that anywhere I've had a look what would be awesome take it to next two levels, has it got a name code for that stanmount version? You could do it like this get 25mm beach plywood cut it as a ring 14mm, to go over the driver and round off the edge 10 mm on the inside 5mm gap all the way around from the surround, try that it's not invasive you can take it off. I don't believe the driver's 10 "? it only counts on the inside of the surround not the outside ofit, where they're giving you the measurement and believe manufacturers commonly do this, its probably 9,2"

Ok, I'd say these have a slight edge over the Pulsars in the ability to tune the DSP yourself and the 10" over the 8" sub. The only other real differences are coax materials. But these King Coaxes sound phenomenal. If you're handy and think you can build yourself it's totally worth the investment
I'm using an analog XLR from my Drawmer monitor controller. That's where I get my volume control. I do it this way because I want to use my Antelope interface/DAC that syncs to my studio master clock. My DAC is a slave to the ADC so everything in my system stays synced with the Dangerous Master Clock.
I've never personally heard them and they look like well thought out speakers. But I wouldn't want to give up my 3 way point source monitoring for a standard 3 way. But again, different strokes for different folks. I'm not trying to take anything away from what they're doing over there.
yeah, i recognized you love coaxial :) i personaly have not much reference, i am a musician but just started with speakers and monitors 2 years ago with old passive krk kroks, now i am with a cheap budget 3 way monitor system (Swissonic X8) and i am already thinking about changing the tweeters and experimenting a bit. Or just start a new build from ground up and also to get the basics of the whole topic. I love the 3 way sound, the details etc, and it makes me curios about speakertech and upgrades in the future. The Seas King Roy Build looks very impressive and a reason to safe some money on the long run :) Thank you for showing what is possible and sharing your knowledge. The MUM3 was my entry into the "ahhh ok you could build your own studiomonitor" world. somehow my answer yesterday didnt made it thru :D ah yeah everybody has his own taste and story to aproach things.for me its more about pleasure while making music and the joy and fun of speakers. i am relatively new to the whole speakertopic, i started with old 90s passive krk kroks. got an pair swissonic x8 in November, and right today i am comparing them to the yamaha HS80M from an declined Studio of an Friend. And i must say i slowly realize that the yamaha delivere much more coherancy and fullness of an mix. they make the Speakers disapear. With the Swissonic X8 i dont know, i realy wanna love them and i did, but something is anoying on them to listen. i was thinking about switching tweeters or mids, connecting to the dsp via pc and also drive the hell out of them in a way i want it and also a kind of platform for experimenting. i think i will stay with the yamahas, funny, at first test two months ago i didnt like them and know i begin to love them. I have a pair of those woofers. But plan to put them in the boot of my old jaguar 😂 I love bass, but I am not able to heat the finer nuances in sound/ music like you. Maybe a waste of good sub-drivers. But fun 😀👍
I spent my teenage years with a trunk full of subs so I totally get it. And they're not wasted! It's what they're made to do. They work great in small enclosures and can handle a ton. Enjoy!!!

PSI AVAA’s will make a huge difference on those 38 hz modes and take up no space at all. They do the most under 50 hz

The VERY first mix/mastering I did on these speakers was When Morning Comes. Being able to hear all that texture in the low end was a revelation!

How are this compared to pulsars? I’m on a hunt for a used pair but if these are as good maybe these are a better option

the Swissonic X8 have a unpleasant harshness, also with eqing.
With Sigma Studio somebody mentioned you can controle the dsp´s of the swissonics, i will give it a try :)
