    Found your videos today and I'm surprised that your videos have so few views, the content is great. I think the conversation around speakers/gear setup according to your needs is an interesting one, generally because it focuses on practicality. You can be an audiophile in it for the love of sound even if you have a really tight budget, or you can be an artist like Andrew Huang who needs crazy amounts of dsp to compensate for hearing degeneration. We're all just doing what works for us, really. Personally I don't care for playing stuff loud, so I usually keep my music around talking level which I think is roughly 60-70db. Dune 2 was fun to watch in theatres, but I definitely enjoyed it more after I put my earplugs in. I think it's really just whatever floats your boat. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Have 2 and are set up as mid base drivers. Have their matching passive radiators as well... i dont need a dedicated subwoofer with these set up as mid bass 😅 btw they are intended to be used as midbass drivers, but a ton of people are just running them as subwoofers.

    • @casey360360
      @casey360360 4 дні тому

      That’s because they’re designed as subwoofers… no where on Daytons website do they say “mid-bass woofer.” They’re even titled as “extended range subwoofer”

    • @forog1
      @forog1 3 дні тому

      @@casey360360 The designer of the speaker designed them to be mid bass midbass drivers are still classifieds subs I forgot atm what video might get back to you but a youtuber had an interview with the person and the have a flat frequency response from 25hz-3khz... Thats midbass performance most subs real subs drobs off hard around 300hz. Just get a regular sub if you still need lower end. They can be had for cheaper or buy the same price sub but bigger will get you those better lows and higher output because for a $120 ever wonder for this price a 200w rms sub is really shit. It's because their main purpose is not as pure subs.

    • @forog1
      @forog1 3 дні тому

      @casey360360 according to the speaker's designer he also says it's main job in mind is midbass. Plus is has a flat response up to 3khz. Most subs drop off hard at 300hz due to cone weight. These cones are light. Plus I don't know about you but... $127 for a 200w rms sub is really shitty. But these excel as midbass in any system. They are ideal for 3 way but can work even as 2way speaker setups

    • @casey360360
      @casey360360 3 дні тому

      @@forog1 they also extend down to 20hz when observing a -3dcb curve in a spec enclosure. Again, to your point it’s an “extended range” subwoofer, many other companies have tried to develop a subwoofer that can extend into both the low sub bass frequencies as well as the mid range, few have been able to do it at the price point of these and really all of them until this series have been neodymium motors. These drivers are amazing in terms of what they can do but they’re not designed first and foremost and mid bass woofers. To hit on another one of your points, no mid bass woofer at 200w rms will ever use 14mm of excursion, a subwoofer will. Also, wattage is one very small piece of the puzzle when it comes to SPL. I’ve hit 140’s with setups that peak at 2000w and placed top of the class I was competing in. Throw two of these in a 6th order band pass and watch the magic happen.

    Home Depot or Lee Valley sell a hinge drill that has a tapered outside bevel that automatically aligns with the center of the drivers mounting holes. It has an integral spring loaded pilot bit ... It results in perfectly centered holes for the speaker mounting screws... It's designed for drilling kitchen cabinet hinges or door hinges but works perfectly for speakers and amplifiers...

    No way you installed COAX with an open back in the same disclosure with sub. it's going to pump those COAXes and make them sound bad. since it's not closed back speaker - it should be placed in the sapareted "chamber"

    • @SocialClubSound

      It is separately sealed. If you look at the plans you can see everything fits together tightly and then I also sealed it up with silicone. Each chamber is properly sealed. The chamber divider piece sits inside 8mm rebates. When I'm rolling the cabinets up you can see me put the chamber separator in. Because you're right, if they weren't separate it would be a nightmare. But rest assured everything is sealed off properly.

    To my understanding (and please correct me if I'm wrong) the beauty of active speakers is to have an active crossover feeding into two amplifiers. So first upside is, an active crossover doesn't cause phase shifts, and therefore is a lot better for the time domain aspects of sound reproduction, secondly you can have two "specialized" amps, that only need to excel at certain areas of "amplification". Wouldn't it be "the best of two worlds" to bi-amp passive monitors, get rid of the passive crossover and put an active one before the two (external) amps. Would even give you the freedom to chose the best amp for each driver 🤔 *just my two cents*

  • @Obsfucation
    @Obsfucation 23 дні тому

    I may have missed you pointing it out and you obviously included it in the design but, you could spell out that the Hypex plate amps (and other brands too) are not sealed with regard to air leakage; especially the FA503! Even with a vented enclosure, and certainly a sealed one, you have to fabricate some kind of enclosure or partition for the plate amp to maintain the air seal of the woofer enclosure. It’d be nice if the plate amp was sealed but, you have to accommodate that omission.

    • @SocialClubSound
      @SocialClubSound 22 дні тому

      Yeah I tried to cover it somewhere in that 2.5 hours of content but you're right. The 503 has a fan so obviously that's not air tight and the 253 uses slits in the plate to accommodate convection cooling. I used the silicone to make sure the amp barrier partition was sealed off and the woofers had their necessary sealed chambers. Thanks for watching and the thoughtful comment!

    I lost body, significant amounts in the lower register and had a slightly more active air bands. The lintec tends to make the mid range and high end more perceived harmonics more pronounced by pulling out the sub frenquencies. Not sk sure it actually saturates that much more, vs just bending the curve to alter the tone by bringing different bands more forward. I am less inclined to choose this option solely based on that loss in the slope in at the lower register. I'd prefer having the option to engage or disable that low end cut by having it in circuit or pull those out in post if required. Knowing I loose that bandwith by default simpling by putting audio into it is a huge no no for me. Sounds good, clearer and more focused for sure than the plugins. They have a grainier, foggier, less clean mid range, almost suffucated by comparison to the Lintec. So in that regard, I see this being a viable solution regardless loosing low end if certain sources I intend to have less of that information in it. I want all the meat in the low end for bass and kicks, low synths, so that makes this a no go for me because that is where I'd want the hardware to give me an extra push, not a negative tradeoff. Still sounds magnificent.

    • @SocialClubSound
      @SocialClubSound 26 днів тому

      I should be clear, the filter on the lows isn't coming FROM the LiNTEC, it's how the mono channels are handled in the SSL Sigma. You don't actually lose the low end from the LiNTEC, the same low filter is visible when it's in bypass showing it's from the SSL not from the LiNTEC. That said, those sub 20Hz frequencies aren't helping your music, they're hurting. Those will eat up audible loudness from your masters if you don't filter them out properly. Hope that helps clear up any miscommunications!

    • @geotungz4050

    • @SocialClubSound
      @SocialClubSound 26 днів тому

      No problem! But it did give me an idea to start pushing the analog channel into the SSL at different levels and it actually ended up changing the response on the very top and very bottom a lot more than I expected but it helps give me an idea to do a video showing how pushing into an SSL board can shape the frequency curve based on gain structure.

    • @geotungz4050
      @geotungz4050 26 днів тому

      @@SocialClubSound Was the little bump at the top end also from the SSL too or was some of it from the Lintec76?

    • @SocialClubSound
      @SocialClubSound 25 днів тому

      No that bump at the top specifically was from the LiNTEC. If you up back and you watch where I flip I out of bypass you see the frequency go from mostly flat with that slight roll off from 10khz-20khz go to a slight ramp up boost in that area. That extra high end is the harmonics it can impart even with the knobs at 0 gain without any cuts or boosts

    Totally agree. There is a lot to share between audiophiles and engineers. I like to add, I don't like to divide. 80 - 85 db for listening.

    I ve allways lissend to studio monitors growing up thanks to my childhood friend who is a producer. It was the easyer way for me since i don t like amplifiers and studio monitors are amplified. But today after work i m finaly getting some “hi fi” speakaers (Klipsch the sevens) that are also amplified. Really curious to hear what i have been missing out on all theese years. Alot of people told me that studio monitors are not for listening music! I don t dissagree but it was the easyer way for me. My last pair were M-Audio Bx8 D3.

      Some studio monitors totally sound amazing with good music and some are just a tool to help the engineer hear certain things. I think you can have some overlap, it isn't a firm rule. Enjoy the new Klipsch!

    It's new, shiny, looks cool and gets most hardware enjoyers wet, hope someone will do a shoutout against the Warm Audio, Heritage audio and Klark Technik one, see what you can get on that price range!

    Your videos that you did on the king r04y speakers were the dumbest (aka the best) videos on those speakers. The other videos you’ve done on studio monitors is still awesome as hell.

      That video was a monster just like the speakers! Glad you enjoyed it. If there's anything you want to see me cover in the future just holler!

    Can you make a video explaining everything about bass radiators? I've never understood how a ported speaker with a radiator on the port is classified as sealed. Thanks. I hope I win.🎸

      I'm already planning a ported vs passive radiator video! Stay tuned!

      @@SocialClubSound Awesome! I've always assumed that sealed monitors are more forgiving of improperly treated rooms. Ports seem to me like an artificial way of reproducing low frequencies.

    First time seeing your channel, do you know anything about surround sound. I want to learn more about reproduction of true surround audio. I love everything audio including musical instrument.

      I've built a few surround sound systems over the years but nothing OD. I have some friends who take it very seriously!

    Thank you for your channel I myself was a professional DJ nightclub DJ and also did professional or pro sound reinforcement and I am an audio file as a result of my vintage equipment and gear but after listening to your video, it really showed me how important it is to hear it from your vantage point and be able to put the profiles together as a sound engineer and an audio file. I’ve learned a lot from you. Thank you so much. I really appreciate ityour channel I’ve only been on aware of your channel for maybe a month or two I think and I have a pretty amazing set up if I can send you a pic

    don’t the back of those monitors reflect a lot or do you mix in front of them ?

    • @SocialClubSound
      @SocialClubSound Місяць тому

      When you say the back of those monitors do you mean my touchscreen video monitors? If that's what you mean, I have them placed and angled so there's no sound from the speaker directly reflecting off them.

    $3200 kit??? Have you lost your mind. For $3200 you can get some really nice speaker that are already assembled.

    • @SocialClubSound
      @SocialClubSound Місяць тому

      For $3200 there's not a production speaker on the planet that can compete with these. My Amphion One18s were $4k a pair. These compete with speakers in the $10k to $15k a pair price range. Sorry if it's a little too pricey for you but thinking you're going to pay $3200 for a speaker with performance anywhere close to these is laughable. Quality costs!

      He thinks 3200$ for studio grade monitors is a lot… so naive)))
