I make a fat bomb shake with ingredients like avocado, Swerve, coconut or almond milk, cacao powder, hemp powder, walnuts or pecans and ice. I put it into my Blendtec. I have it for lunch and it holds me for almost the rest of the day. It’s wonderful and filling. I don’t feel deprived. Sometimes I add a teaspoon of organic decaf for a mocha flavor. I love it!

i have made this two days in a row now. the first time, i followed the recipe as is, and then after reading some of the comments here addressing carb concerns, i made some adjustments based on V L's comment below. i much prefer the use of heavy cream over the coconut cream - i think if i have learned anything here, it's that coconut cream really isn't my thing. i also tried adding a bit of monk fruit sweetener, as well as some vanilla extract, but i probably wouldn't do that again as it was an exercise in futility. what i mean is that i wouldn't say that this shake tastes good, but i wouldn't say it tastes bad, either. the flavor is mostly neutral and non-offensive. this is much more about a texture experience. if you like things smooth, creamy and silky, then you might like this - if you're looking for a blast of flavor, this isn't it. that being said, i have hit a plateau in my weight loss, and this shake has helped me stay full and focused throughout the late morning and afternoon. it wins points for helping to keep me motivated an inspired.

I make this drink, but i use almond milk and, to fill me up for the ENTIRE day, I would add 1 or 2 egg yolks (depending on how much energy I need for that day) **you don't even taste the egg yolks except for the extra thick creaminess they add.. I also use my immersion blender to mix, sooo much easier to clean just one little piece than a whole big blender and all it's parts 😂 I know this is an old video, but I followed you religiously (on youtube and via your emails/blogs) a few years ago when I did the keto lifestyle.. I made so many of your recipies and they always came out just delish!! Unfortunately, I let my health fall by the wayside in the past couple of years but now that I'm ready to get back to keto and have pulled up my favorite videos. I truly appreciate the time and effort you've taken to create these videos for us Dot. Thank you from my heart 💜

My daughter and I have decided to start this eating method. We have tried everything else with 100% failure. I think having a decadent drink like this will encourage us to continue the journey and get past the FLU! I know I need to keep the carbs low but I also believe we can sabotage our plan if an unreasonable number is set in stone. I found your channel and love your videos. So very thorough, encouraging and inspiring. That’s what I need at the moment. THANK YOU!

To avoid keto flu, stay hydrated and make sure you get enough magnesium and potassium and salt.
Add some NoSalt salt substitute with your sea salt to get the proper amounts of magnesium, potassium and sodium without overdoing any of them (too much potassium can be dangerous. Using salt substitute gives you enough without overdosing) when you go keto, your body uses up these minerals faster and keeping hydrated will flush them out faster, too. Reccommended by Dr. Ken Berry

Pam Waldron it’s awfully hard to OD on potassium from a salt shaker, we need 4700 mg a day unless having a health concern that can’t have potassium. (One medium banana is 420 mg. Avocado or sweet potato have more potassium, but avocado is better for keto or low carb.) Potassium is so good for us and a shortage can cause random charley horses at any part of the body.

I've seen a few of your videos and really like them. I am currently 331 lbs and like you I also have been heavy most of my adult life and have tried every diet out there known to man. I have struggled with my weight most of my life. I have osteoarthritis in both knees and have to use a power wheelchair to get around because it's way too painful to walk. I am not able to exercise much at all since I can only stand for 5 minutes at a time without being in extreme pain. I'm writing down some of your recipes that look and sound good to me. Hopefully they will help me lose weight so I can get to where I am able to exercise. Thank you for making these videos

I used to drink it very slow but we really should give our bodies hours without food..so as not to spike insulin. Which is what I was doing. Eric Berg on here has a wealth of information on it.

    • @Dot2TrotsLowCarbLiving
      @Dot2TrotsLowCarbLiving  6 років тому +15

Good point! I do watch Dr. Berg's videos, he's great. Yes, you're right we do need to not eat every 2 hours -- we're not grazers. This particular shake you do need to drink slow -- just a lot of fat in it and not possible to drink fast. While this does have carbs thanks to the milk, the amount of fat results in keeping insulin from spiking. It's the same reason to always have fat when eating berries. Plus this drink keeps you from eating for hours. If I put a time on it, I probably drink this over a 90 minute period and I never finish it ;). But after I'm not eating until I get hungry (about 4-5 hours). So I get the benefit of no eating for a chunk of time and the fat keeps insulin in check. Having hours in the day where you don't eat is good, but we also need to utilize those 8 hours of sleep (including no eating a few hours before bed and a few hours after we get up). That is optimal for fat burning. I think the key really is eating when hungry AND only when hungry. Having said all that, I don't think fat bomb shakes or bullet coffees are something we should do everyday. Just not enough nutrients in them. I really use them sparingly.

I love IF. Since I'm not a breakfast person, during the summer my first meal/snack is at 1or 2. My dinner is around 5-6 and thats it until the next day. I do try to drink 8-10 glasses of water everyday. For me it's the best way to lose weight. I eat anything that I want and never feel deprived. However, two things I do limit is sugar and caffeine intake but if I want it I will have it.

This was delicious and definitely satiating. Unfortunately, it wreaked havoc on my digestive system and couldn't get out of the bathroom for over 24 hours. It may have been the coconut oil as I don't usually ingest that particular fat. I've been doing keto for about a year now. I think the concept of a fat bomb to break your fast is a good one and I'm going to tweak this recipe to reduce the carbs, but also play around with different fats. Thanks so much for sharing this. I think I will order this cookbook too! Good luck on your journey, Dot!

  • @mamalv1

You could sub HWC for both ....... the 5 oz of milk : 50/50 HWC and water. I don't buy coconut cream, here is hugely expensive, so I would use HWC instead. Being soooo thick and rich I sure it would be a sub for 2 of my meals.
20 carbs is a a lot for 1 drink even though it can last over 4 hrs to drink it. (trying to be helpful not critical)
Ok using MFP I made changes that reduced the carb count.
    1. removed the coco powder
    2. changed the milk and coconut cream to:
    Water - 3 oz.
Cream, fluid, heavy whipping, 274 ml(s) or 9.26 oz
These changes brought the carb count down to 8 carbs instead of 20.
    I hope this helps

MS for over 20 years, and subsequent weight gain from prednisone. I ditched my prescriptions about 6 years ago and have been trying to lose. Finally having some success with keto, and dropping sugar from my diet, which is huge. But I fear its not sustainable. I am missing pizza and cheese steaks. both recipes of yours i just pinned and cant wait to try!! thankyou thankyou thankyou!!!

Holly, I thought the same thing when I went keto. But it isn't just what you eat that is changing...it's also how you think too! I always tell people that health and weight loss is 95% food and 100% mental. Does this mean you'll never ever eat a slice of pizza (or 2)? Of course not. The key is what you do the next meal! I'm not saying go out and eat pizza! Just that life happens. Just don't beat yourself up and instead focus your energies on eating keto with the very next meal. Also if you are worried about cravings for old, unhealthy foods, there are ways to satisfy that itch without breaking your diet. Good luck and remember, you can do this.

I think I would leave the salt out, though, just because I try not to eat too much sodium because I tend to retain fluid, and I don't think leaving the salt out would hurt the taste at all. Other than that, it's all good. Thanks for sharing the recipe. 😊

Just use a less coconut oil & less butter. Also switch out the whole milk with almond milk plus a T of heavy cream. She's got 3 T butter & 3 T coconut oil. That's 6T of Fat! Plus the fat from the coconut creme, that alone is 600 calories. I just use 1 Tbsp each of butter & coconut oil. 1c almond milk, 1 or 2 Tbsp HWC, 2 tsp Erythritol, 2 drops vanilla stevia, & 2 to 3 tsp cocoa powder. Sometimes I use a couple Tbsp of coconut creme, but it's not necessary. All into pot, heat until hot & blend w/immersion blender. It's like a decadent hot cocoa.
