My dad was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in May 2017 and immediately started fasting 16 hours everyday and eating a keto high fat moderate protein ultra low carb eating. Within four months he lost 50 lbs and was declared by his doctor to not have type 2 diabetes. He reversed his insulin resistance which is the root cause of obesity and type 2 diabetes.

It’s sad to see that NBC has such an unprofessional Nutritionist Joy Bauer on the show, she was clearly very uneducated about the Keto diet and no clue on food items allowance, history and health benefits.

I have Hashimotos Thyroiditis, menopaused , and insulin resistent. I am 49 and had weight problems but was not obese. Ate Keto + some cheat meals and started losing weight. Combined it with intermittent fasting 19/5 with 1 meal + lots of macadamia nuts (OMAD) and weight is flying off! If she was my nutritionist I would be obese and frustrated!! I am a Size 6 now!! Also, don't forget to weight train especially the glutes!!

I would have been very upset had I lost 120 pounds and been invited on the Today show, only to be told that my lifestyle has "unknown, long-term effects" by a condescending nutritionist who gave no indication she possesses any knowledge pertaining to the keto diet, specifically.

This nutritionist is typical. They follow the ADA's garbage about saturated fats. The medical community also recommends up to 120 carbs a day for diabetics. Even when people show them that their A1C has drastically plummeted with Keto, they still push the carbs. Got to keep them on those meds. And they love to harp on the lack of long-term studies, but there are tons of long-term studies that show how bad carbs are for people with insulin resistance (including diabetics), but they have no problem ignoring that and pushing the carbs.

    • @KCallaAK

yes, very typical. I have several friends now diabetic following the nutritionist at our local hospital for the ADA. WAY to many carbs... oh but that's right... just take medication! Sheesh. I am insulin resistant and have brought my A1C down to 5. Not gonna BE diabetic thank you very much!!

Keto is the real deal! I'm a 42 year old man and my health was really starting to fall apart and I felt awful suffering from adrenal fatigue and pre-diabetes. I've lost @ 70lbs since July of last year doing Keto and Intermittent Fasting. I got to my goal weight of 195 lbs around October and now use Keto to stay at my current weight. I feel incredible and not going back. I've tried and failed with many other diet and fitness programs over the past 15 years, but once you get over the initial adaptation period of Keto this is by far the easiest and most sustainable way to lose weight, be healthy, and feel incredible! I feel like I'm 25 yrs old again and got my life back!

decsnspace -- How goes it now, four years after your initial post? I've seen many people quit keto for carnivore and others going back to a moderate amount of whole food carbohydrates. Low-carb worked for me, for about five years. Finally, I realized it wasn't necessary for me. To each their own.

Joy Bauer should take a lesson from Dr. Eric Berg. She's missing the whole problem with obesity... insulin resistance and how the ketogenic diet works is to keep insulin levels way low. Your body can burn fat in the absence of insulin. When your body goes into ketosis because your diabetes in unchecked, that's a health issue (ketoacidosis), but that is not the same as a ketogenic diet. What really taxes your organs, isn't the ketogenic diet, it's excessive insulin that people with insulin resistance pump out. The ketogenic diet is not the Atkins diet... Dr. Berg recommends 7-11 cups of vegetables (preferably raw salad or raw kale shakes) a day. Coupled with IF... this is a very healthy diet/lifestyle. You will experience an incredible transformation, very quickly. Your energy will sky-rocket. It's a no-stress, no hunger, no craving diet. You will be amazed just how much your blood sugar and insulin levels have been stressing you out all these years. Once you go keto, things that used to push every button and pull every trigger will just roll off your back. It's truly miraculous what this keto diet will do for you. If everyone went keto we'd have world peace.

What a load of tosh that dietician talked. Crazy woman.
We used to live mostly on meat and dairy only, before we started farming.
I used to believe all the propaganda about all the different foods we need to eat, until I've seen dozens, if not hundreds of people who are incredibly fit and healthy, living on a very limited diet.
You have to learn what's right for your own body, and keeping carbs to a minimum works really, really well for millions of people.
Saying they'll be long term health affects is a real red herring.
If you've got healthier sugar/insulin levels, improved liver function, less weight on your joints, much lower inflammation in your body, better mental clarity, improved immune system, lower triglyceride levels, more energy, no high sugar levels for cancer to breed upon etc - the long team effects HAS to better than what you were doing before.
You only have to look around and see the massive increase in obesity and chronic illness, to realise that the recommended way of eating isn't working - for millions of people.
If that's not a wake up call, to health professionals, then what would be?

And I’ve also added in Intermittent fasting and that’s helped as well. Saturated fat has been debunked as an issue anymore, sugar and refined carbs are what cause fatty liver and cholesterol issues.
Fructose gets shuttled to the liver immediately and if doesnt have a need to be used as energy it get gets stored as fat.
As if green veggies are not good enough in copious amounts?!
come on now ketogenic dieting is not all about high fats, it's a higher fat but people typically don't have the full macro fat amount. People are still under the misconception that it's 90% fat for medical reasons that treats epilepsy that's not the case for nutritional ketosis.
You Need your nutrionist to brush up on newer updated studies.

Funny thing is, 100 years ago, when people wanted to lose weight, they used to cut grains, bread, pasta, sweets etc. Not meat and fat. There are books about how carbs make you gain weight since the late 1800s. The concept of calories and the "Heart healthy diet" was created during the 1960s-70s.
When I was a (chubby) teenager, I asked my 90 year old grandma what to eat if I wanted to lose weight. She answered by removing the potatoes and bread from my plate. Just roasted beef and veggies. Too bad I didn't know about keto or how hormones worked then. Instead I took advice from modern dietitians (eat less, exercise more). Hello ruined metabolism and yo-yo dieting. Grandma knew her stuff.

I went keto three and a half years ago and I will never go back. Besides the fact that I am leaner than I've ever been even at 43 years old I love the stable energy I have. No more of the fluctuating up and down that I used to feel when I ate carbs. I love that I am satiated all the time and never crave food. I can honestly say, after running on ketones, glucose sucks. But, what amazes me, is despite my story and all the stories I hear everywhere about the success people have on keto, there are always all these naysayers that want to pick it apart and say how dangerous it is. They continue to spew out the same information about cholesterol and saturated fat. It doesn't matter how much scientific evidence comes out today to show that there was never actually any link between them and heart disease. Especially vegans. They seem to have the hardest time accepting any new scientific evidence that goes against what we believed all these years. But it's not just vegans. I find plenty of videos out there of people that love to debunk the keto diet. People who have never tried it. Why are people so bent on putting down a diet that so many people have success with? One of the most ridiculous things they say is how the diet is not sustainable. It just sounds funny to someone who's been on it for three and a half years and has no intention of ever going off. And has heard tons of stories of people who have been on longer. And so many people say the same thing "I am never going back". I don't see people putting down Jenny Craig. And let's face it that diet is completely useless and not the least bit sustainable. I have never heard a single story of someone that went on Jenny Craig lost the weight and kept it off. I've seen people like Oprah lose weight several times on it. But keep it off? Never.

    • @kiomemodel
      @kiomemodel 11 місяців тому

When they stay the diet is not sustainable, they are forgetting the fact that mankind evolved on the Keto diet for over 200,000 years. Also, there are large groups and tribes who only eat meat and they are very healthy and thriving. The Inuit, Maasai, and several tribes in Africa for example. They eat only meat and have no heart disease, no weight issues, no energy issues, no strokes, no high blood pressure, no heart attacks, etc. And there are people who only eat meat due to food allergies and they are very healthy. Vegans try to censor information on the health benefits of eating meat.
My dad raised me on Keto and I never felt hungry or left out. Not only am I of good weight, I'm a model. I eat all I want and am never hungry. Satiated is the best way to describe it. When I take a bite of a donut or sip of Starbucks, I have to spit it out. It's so sugary and carb laden. It's gross. After you're on Keto for a while, you lose your desire and taste for junk food and processed food.

Genesis 1:29: Then God said, "Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you;" People only started eating meat after the flood. There is nothing wrong with meat in general but the problem is with toxicity of the modern age when animals get sick with horrible diseases because everything around them is polluted. On top of that we ALWAYS overeat! Candy was never so abundant in Jesus time, people ate WAY less food in His time. Abundance creates disease just like lack of food does.

You have to be smart and watch out for hidden sugars, and eat a moderate amount of meat. This so-called nutritionist is so typical of what passes today for diet specialists. The keto diet is not taxing on the kidneys nor the liver as she claims. Ketosis is not recommended for diabetics although modified versions of it has helped those with that condition. What is clear is that the so-called specialists over the last 50 years have been wrong about mostly everything, just part of the chain of the usual run of the mill health 'experts' where following their plan has increased the incidents of heart disease, stroke, cancer and diabetes. They have clearly failed so give me a break about what works long term. Theirs doesn't yet keto is not something new. The thing is who really knows and anyone that says so is a liar until a hundred years of study have been done.

Newborn babies who are only fed breast milk are in ketosis. I think if ketosis was so dangerous, we'd probably know by now since humans have been breasfeeding for as long as we've existed. It would have some kind of negative effect on the babies' health, right? But breastfeeding is pretty much universally accepted as good for the babies' health.

That nutritionist seems a little rude. Obviously what she was doing before keto, wasn't working for her. She turned her life around! That is amazing. Without a doubt, she looks so much better and healthier. I'm very happy for her. Just because someone is a nutritionist doesn't mean that they know everything about nutrition! My triglycerides were very high on a high carb low fat vegan diet. It puzzled my doctor. I began seeing a nutritionist. I kept reducing my fat consumption, and I would go back for blood work, and it was actually going up. I eventually sought out advice from an ND, and by adding more fat and reducing my carbohydrate intake made a huge difference. My triglycerides have dropped down to a very healthy level and am no longer pre-diabetic.

I had to laugh when the "nutritionist" says that going without carbs taxes the liver and the kidneys. I could not get my ALP (Alkaline Phosphatase), a liver enzyme, down to normal until I started my Keto program. I have also heard too much from doctors and nutritionists who are Keto savvy about how it helps fatty liver and on one video it was told that it actually reversed a person's kidney problems so that they were able to get off dialysis. The medical community needs to look at the science.

Keto is amazing and as a person with autoimmune disease who isn't "healthy" (no one who is overweight doesn't have some sort of underlying health problem) this way of eating is amazing. Joy's perspective is limiting and potentially inhibiting persons who could succeed. I feel great, lost weight, and is easy to maintain.

For over 20 I had not lost any weight despite trying. I finally decided to try the keto diet. I lost 25 pounds in 6 weeks. It jump started my metabolism and I have been able to add some carbs back and still lose a few pond each month. I used to love sugar and since the keto diet, I don'tr ever crave it even though I tell myself I can have it sometimes. Actually the keto diet changed my appetite which surprised me. I used to be hungry all the time. Now I don't have that gnawing hunger all the time. Also my blood pressure was high and now is normal. So exciting! Amazing.

There's plenty of substantial evidence that supports a ketogenic diet and lifestyle. The Mediterranean diet that is alway recommended by physicians and nutritionists has been grossly misrepresented. The Mediterranean diet if done correctly is basically Keto. Again there is no substantial evidence that a diet high in saturated fats actually increase your cardiovascular risk. Also, the AHA recommendations for a low fat diets have only worsened our obesity rates in the U.S. Keto is great, but honestly has a high learning curve ESPECIALLY since there's so much conflicting information out there. At our Sports Medicine/Family practice we recommend keto to EVERYONE! But to help people along the way we began to integrate a mobile app program that allows us to monitor your activity level and food consumption to help you along the way to get healthier. We've made the service available to non-patients who would like to be coached to do Keto by a Sports Med Physician who has been doing keto for years and has been implementing it in his practice. Check our UA-cam page for our intro videos or visit our website Carbstoketo.org.

I am SO tired of all these nutritionists and their warnings ("where are the studies"). Dear Nutritionist, please tell me: Where are the studies that prove that what we've been eating for fifty years - you know, all the wonderful things that got so many of us sick, fat, tired and depressed - is good for us. Don't bother, I have the answer: There are none! Just because you have been brainwashed into believing that we need to eat a "well-balanced" (carb-laden) diet doesn't mean that this is really so.
