Amazing that UA-cam algorithm sent me to you. I have a 2003 f350 dually with a 6.0. It now has close to 57,000 miles. I found it a couple of years ago with only 33,000 miles. Sounds unbelievable but it’s true. The truck was never modified and the original owners put ~25,000 miles on it the first few years. Over the next 15 or so years they only put about 7,000 miles on it. The man developed a medical issue and began to loose his vision. Afterwards his wife only occasionally drove the truck to church, shopping, get it serviced etc… I got the truck in like new condition but due to age there have been a few minor issues. These have included: Instrument cluster Alternator Batteries AC compressor ICP Sensor FICM (probably incorrect diagnosis by me) Instructions like those provided here have allowed me to confidently troubleshoot and repair most issues quickly. E.g. instrument cluster…. Anyway thanks. My comments don’t directly pertain to this specific video but want to say thanks for educating me on the 6.0.

I have a bad 3rd injector on my 03' 6.0 so I'm going to replace all of them on that side(passenger) wish you were doing both sides for me to see what it takes to remove the stuff on the passenger side before I dive right in to the job in the morning.
I plan to do a more thorough how to in the near future. I will say there are some tight spots on the passenger side. It is a very doable job just take your time. I think a swivel socket and a shallow 1/4 was my friend foe those bottom valve cover bolts. It's not the only way to get them but it helped me a lot.
@six0bros also, I don't have a air tool wrench to take the oil rail off, do you know what size the circumference of the hole on the air wrench is so I can make/drill out a piece of steel to work?
Good commentary..another tip for you is to clean out the injector hold down bolt hole with a q-tip.Any residual oil that may have run down into it while the injector was out will give you a false torque reading if not cleaned out.Same goes for the oil rail hold down bolt holes
great video. while your in there i would probably install the updated dummy plug and stand pipe. that's also a good time to clean your ebp tube and sensor.
im new to the diesel truck industry. i am looking to buy a 2003 ford f250 diesel. the seller only said the mechanic told him it wont run due to bad injector. do i need to buy just one or do i need to buy a set of 5?
Injectors will cause a no start but you will won't to run the codes to see why it isn't starting and make sure it's actually the injectors and not something else. Does it try and turn over?
So the first thing is to make sure you don't have a compression issue. I would keep the key out of the truck and jump the started and listen for a nice even Rev of the engine. Once that checks I would use forescan and a Bluetooth obd2 sensor with your phone itbis cheap and it actually is one of the best diagnostic tools out there in my opinion

I have the same issue now saying my Injector #6. About how many hours it take you to do? I am planning do it myself then take it to mechanic at least get to know more about these trucks
@@six0bros would you know torque specs for screw holding down the injector and do i need to torque the dummy plug and the bolts around the oil rail and lid that covers the injector area.
There are a few on the market. Mishimoto is what I have. However it gets in the way of my intake. PSP sells one as well, and I am drawing a blank but there are a few more on the market
To my knowledge no. Now I will say I do feel a fresh set of injectors does tend to quiet the engine down slightly if your injectors are a little warn out anyway. Provided you stick with a stock nozzle sometimes larger nozzles especially once you get up to 75% and larger can make the truck a little louder as you start to lose idle quality.
Hey 6.0Bros, In the last three months or so I’ve noticed I get a cylinder contribution code for cylinder five or seven maybe once a month. I usually only Feel the unbalanced misfire for five minutes at most and it will return to normal. Very inconsistent! I have tried hot shots stiction eliminator but has still done it since. Any ideas? Would the injectors go out so inconsistently like that? Or maybe FICM issue?? Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks.
If the truck overall runs good I would try archoil but most likely those injectors are dying. So I would recommend checking your fuel pressure to verify you don't have an issue with fuel pressure. After that you may want to consider replacing the injectors
@@six0bros okay so doesn’t sound like a ficm issue? I’ll give some archoil a try. Seems like they get stuck closed cuz don’t have any smoke or raised EGT. Usually it’s cyl 7 but couple times cyl 5. Never any others.
What kind of Degas Bottle did you get and how well is it over stock? Awesome vids man.. I'm planning on doing Cometic Gaskets and ARP 625+ Studs on my 05 6.0 here before too long. My aim is to do it without removing the cab. And while I'm at it either get BD Diesel manifolds or refurbish the stock ones (buuuut port and polish and titanium thermal barrier coat them) along with the same with an MBRP up-pipe assembly and custom port and polish the OEM intake manifold and hit it with a custom thermal coating. Upon doing such I'll be doing the BPD EGR & Oil Coolers. Might port and polish exhaust ports on the cylinder heads and just polish the intake ports and drop in a Colt Cams Stage 1.5 Camshaft and the BPD FICM Six Phase (53-Volt Setting so no codes will be thrown) all at the same time.
Sounds like an awesome build I have the colt stage 2 Cam and it is amazing. I can tow Max weight just fine and daily drives perfect. Highly recommend. Also I love the odawg diesel ported I take manifold, and the BD Exhaust manifolds.
i cannot for the life of me get the wiring harness connector to secure into the fuel injector connector. Is this a normal issue? I replaced the connector on the fuel injector side because the original one was cracked. Have you ever experienced this or have any tips?
Are you 100% positive that the fuel injector plug is pressed in the whole way? Typically when I have heard of this that is the issue. I would also try taking the metal clip off the harness and try pushing in that way. Sometimes those clips are just a bear. Be careful removing it though

We have fixed it now. In the future I plan for a better camera that captures night shots better but in the mean time we have better lighting options now
I personally would by alliant before motorcraft 6.0 injectors. The g2.8 they sell I feel is better. But alliant has their remans made by the same company as Ford. So it is hard to say that the remans are better
I only put OEM new Motorcraft injectors in my 2007 6.0 liter. Was told the spool valve is patented by Siemens so if you buy aftermarket they will fail. I had 2 injectors cracked and stiction was a bitch. It cost me $1800 to replace all my injectors and standpipes. That was 3 years ago and my pickup has run very well with no stiction issues at all. I replaced my FICM board and am getting 17 - 20 mpg on the highway with no programmer. OEM is the only way to go. There are 2 motherfluffer bolts on the passenger side against the fender well. Make sure the standpipes are seated correctly. Torque everything to spec.
Going with oem injectors is definitely a good idea, but the premium injectors offered by holder and Warren are good injectors. Also Alliant has quality replacements as well if needed in a pinch.
The injector hold down bolt has a specify torque spec and from what I remember it is extremely important you torque it to the exact torque spec. I don’t think you mentioned it and I know it can not be to lose or to tight it has to be exact to ford’s torque spec. I could be wrong but from some reason I remember it being important.
Yes some shops have gotten come backs after injectors. It is around 28 ft lb I believe. I think the actual range is about 24-32. I'll add this to the description and get a specific number. Good catch man thanks.
Before removing the injector(s) from the bore I've heard or read you're supposed to drain the fuel logs that run through the head to prevent fuel from pouring into the cylinder and potentially hydrolocking the engine? Is that right or did I imagine this?
Yes and no. Yes in the sense you would not want to let them drain into the cylinders, but no in the sense that you have to pull. The oil log off the injector first before you are able to access the injector.
@@six0bros Appreciate the quick reply. I'm talking more about the log where your front fuel feed lines go to the banjo bolt. I think the rear has 6 mm Allen head plugs hidden in behind the up pipes these are also where you would tie into doing a regulated return. Would you undo the plugs before pulling the injector out of the bore? Once you pull it up and the o ring breaks seal with fuel log the fuel has to go somewhere? Just imagining that each head probably holds around 16oz or so of fuel and having it leak down into a cylinder would surely cause damage to something. Like bent valves or connecting rod depending on where the piston is at in the cylinder bore that the fuel pours into.
Im not sure if you'd call it a fuel galley maybe? I've heard Diesel Tech Ron also refer to the oil rail as a fuel rail even though it's not carrying fuel.
Hes talking about the fuel rail inside the head and all i do is turn the motor over with the starter jumper on the pass. side fender not the key so the fuel pump doesnt run that clears the cylinder.....
Sorry some of this was hard to set up. I have inproved my filming since this. On these trucks they should just pull out with relatively little resistance, amd going back in the injector hold down should be lined up with the notch in the injector and then tighten down. Double check torque on them as this is not a part you want to over or under tighten. I also always torque the oil rail down to avoid any breaking bolts as they are smaller. Do you have the right sized torque bit for the injectors. You cannot use a long one or to short of one.
Is the passenger side just as easy as the drivers side? I’ve heard stories on the drivers side of 05 up with the stand pipes causing the cab to be lifted. I have an 03 which is the same style as yours
You do not need to lift the cab for any year to do injectors. I haven't edited the second video where I talk about somethings I encountered when I replaced all my injectors. It gets a little tight on the back lower bolts but it is very doable. After doing it once I could probably do the same job in a fraction of the time.
I know mine has a bad or failing injector or 2 and some bad o rings on the high pressure circuit. Bad stutter when cold and no start hot. Am hoping for drivers side but if passenger side I will give it a try. I’m very knowledgeable with engines just never dug into a 6.0 before. Love the video by the way

Most guys I know and reputable shops around here replace the entire bank of an injector goes bad, because usually just one injector doesn’t fix it. And who wants one new one and 7 old ones.
I would say that generally that is very sound advice. My plan is to go to bigger injectors but I needed my truck for that weekend to tow my camper out of state I didn't have time to do them all, but I am actually about to go to the shop I use to order injectors.
If I wasn't going bigger I would have probably bought the all is the g2.8 injectors for this whole bank and shortly after done the other side. Nothing goes according to how I plan sometimes lol. Hope you liked the video
You do know that when you pull your injector the fuel rail inside the head drains into the cylinder....im not talking about the oil rail either....one day youre gonna hydro a cylinder not turning the motor over and clearing it out

If you just go slow and take your time it isn't bad. I would say maybe a couple of hours a side

You can purchase new connectors and repin that one.

Decent chance the 4x4 is just a vacuum line that is not holding pressure in the system. Check the vacuum line going to the steering knuckle

@@dnsbb8033 only special tool you need is the proper injector hold down bit. Freedom racing is the kit I have an works great.
The injectors holder is T40 bolt?
I'll have to double check which one it is but freedom racing is the company that sells a nice set of injector sockets for the 6.0
Did you scan it with torque pro,?
You can't see injector contribution with torque or forscan but they are great. And they will give you the code for which injector

No. I know on 7.3s you have to but that is because so much oil gets in them you dont have as much on a 6.0.
I will say typically I do spray compressed air in each one though.

Im not sure if you'd call it a fuel galley maybe? I've heard Diesel Tech Ron also refer to the oil rail as a fuel rail even though it's not carrying fuel.

Hes talking about the fuel rail inside the head and all i do is turn the motor over with the starter jumper on the pass. side fender not the key so the fuel pump doesnt run that clears the cylinder.....
Would have been nice to actually see the injectors being pulled out and put in.
Sorry some of this was hard to set up. I have inproved my filming since this. On these trucks they should just pull out with relatively little resistance, amd going back in the injector hold down should be lined up with the notch in the injector and then tighten down. Double check torque on them as this is not a part you want to over or under tighten. I also always torque the oil rail down to avoid any breaking bolts as they are smaller. Do you have the right sized torque bit for the injectors. You cannot use a long one or to short of one.

Is the passenger side just as easy as the drivers side? I’ve heard stories on the drivers side of 05 up with the stand pipes causing the cab to be lifted. I have an 03 which is the same style as yours
You do not need to lift the cab for any year to do injectors. I haven't edited the second video where I talk about somethings I encountered when I replaced all my injectors. It gets a little tight on the back lower bolts but it is very doable. After doing it once I could probably do the same job in a fraction of the time.

I know mine has a bad or failing injector or 2 and some bad o rings on the high pressure circuit. Bad stutter when cold and no start hot. Am hoping for drivers side but if passenger side I will give it a try. I’m very knowledgeable with engines just never dug into a 6.0 before. Love the video by the way

Most guys I know and reputable shops around here replace the entire bank of an injector goes bad, because usually just one injector doesn’t fix it. And who wants one new one and 7 old ones.
I would say that generally that is very sound advice. My plan is to go to bigger injectors but I needed my truck for that weekend to tow my camper out of state I didn't have time to do them all, but I am actually about to go to the shop I use to order injectors.

If I wasn't going bigger I would have probably bought the all is the g2.8 injectors for this whole bank and shortly after done the other side. Nothing goes according to how I plan sometimes lol. Hope you liked the video

I'll get it for you but you don't need a specific injectors. I spoke to Warren diesel and he said it didn't matter what year or build date.

You do know that when you pull your injector the fuel rail inside the head drains into the cylinder....im not talking about the oil rail either....one day youre gonna hydro a cylinder not turning the motor over and clearing it out
not really an issue in the 6.0 but it isnt a bad practice to have.

I haven’t had s failed injector since I started using Rev-ex oil additive. Seems to run so smooth. I’m sold on that shit.
Oil additives are amazing. I use archoil, but I have heard rev ex is also a great one to use.
I'm about to try Rev x did you have to drain out 16oz of oil or just add it in it doesn't specify at all.
Just put in 2 bottles every oil change. That’s what I did. Never replaced any injectors after that. Seems to run better too. Might be in my head lol.
I have always just added the archoil, but I have heard people recommend taking it out and many people do not. I don't think it matters a ton
