There Was A Time You All Hated This Game

- I remember that for the longest time, Assassin’s Creed 3 was the black sheep of the AC franchise. Connor was a hated character for not living up to Ezio’s glory, the game was lambasted for its poor story and subpar world design, and a short year since it released, the game was quickly overshadowed by the golden child that came after AC 4 Black Flag. But the community as a whole has come back, in a similar way as we came back to Unity (though not with as much force), and we have all seemingly thought: “Perhaps I treated you too harshly”.
AC 3 is a game with a lot of flaws, and definitely, not one I rank in my top 5. But I do think it is a great game, one that has a lot to offer in terms of combat, parkour, and when it lets you… stealth. It’s beautiful and filled with character, and Connor is an absolute force of nature. The game provides a very distinct assassin fantasy that, although doesn’t cater directly to me, has a lot to offer that we didn’t get in the older games.
AC 3 is the game that got me into the franchise, so I’ll always have a soft spot for it. But I really do think there is a lot to love from Connor and the American open world. The story may not be my favorite, but some of my favorite characters like Haytham were born from it. I think, with the direction AC has gone, AC 3 is now one of the good memories we have of the old Assassin’s Creed, one that deeply cared about the philosophy of its world. I urge you to play this game again if you haven’t in a while, and try and enjoy it in the way the developers intended: a brutal assassin with a preference for combat and bloody assassinations, who also has the capacity for menacing stealth. I think you’ll walk away with a fun time.
In this video, I recreated/adapted an old run from a great UA-camr called Maceonik, who pioneered the idea of stealth runs in Assassin’s Creed. I don’t make it look nearly as cool as he does, but I still had fun revisiting this game for you guys. Enjoy :)

Imagine going to work every day and being a loyal guard only to ge shot through a guy's back
Bruh
onb thats crazy🗿personally i wouldn't be letting that slide, maybe that's just me doe
Seeing pro at play
His descendants must've never visited America after hearing about his tragic death 😂
Those are some next level back shots
Maybe it's because this was my first Assassin's Creed, but I never hated this game. Even after going back and replaying the original and the Ezio trilogy, I've always felt this game stood out amongst the franchise in terms of its edge. Connor stalking his prey up in the trees of the frontier will never get old, and I could listen to Connor and Haythams debate on the rooftop all day long haha
it was my first too
@@AltairStealthmy first as well but I watched my dad play 1-Revelations so not my first experience with the series
Same here
@@AltairStealthsame AC3 was also my first as well
Nah. I played since the first, and I loved this game. It was my favorite even with it being the 4th one I played.
Just imagine watching Connor destroying every single gard in front of you
i would just run
And just watching haha
One man army
Gard
Honestly, after he finished I would slowly put my gun or whatever weapon I had DOWN step back and just say "You got it" and hope he feels merciful that day.
This game did the Bow system perfectly. Wasnt a op weapon where you can snipe everyone. It was fun to use in situations. This game probably has the best tools and weapons in the franchise. Rope dart, Bow, Tomahawk, muskets. So many uniuqe choices
Yeah i agree better than the rpg
@@AltairStealth watching your video made me realize , there is more unique ways to kill people in ac3 than any other game. You used so many methods
Glad to hear that 🔥
AC3 was my first AC, so when i went to other ACs, I was honestly flabbergasted that u only had the option of swords basically. I don't understand why AC3 was the only AC to have blunt weapons, heavy weapons, daggers, AND swords
@@justuraveragecunt9005
Well... Unity did as well LMAO
This game laid the foundation for AC 4. My favorite part of this game was exploring the wilderness, it was so smooth and blew my mind how fluid the tree climbing animations were. Ambushing British patrols and out-maneuvering Jaegers was exhilarating.
Yet for some reason AC4 was choppy and the animations were not as good. The overall game was great but it feels like 3 had better animation than 4
@@SplendidFellow nah, Rebecca's animus is just better than Abstergo's
Assassin's Creed III is a great game and Connor a great character. It is nice to see both getting the love they deserve.
👏💪
@@AltairStealthstates that AC3 has 'a lot of flaws' but doesn't elaborate on it.... claims that the whole community hated it even though yes it is a majority but those majority are just plainly blinded by Ezios c0ck and those majority claim that AC2 is the best even though it has one of the worst written stories in Assassin's Creed...
Same ❤
Lol connor character is the worst bro is like a robot
connor was a shitty character bro, you coping fr
I've always liked this game. But times passing... And now I love It. One of the best stories in the series... Except the ending for the poor Desmond.
The game aged well in our hearts. Still cant get behind the ending either though
@@AltairStealth You are definitely the true words man, man. By the way I hate the word "Underrated" because I see It everywhere but Connor is truly Underrated. Stoic like nobody else, I learned the word "stoic" because of him.
@@filippobrandobattiston1983 People like to hate on everything then start to love it years later. That's why the word "underrated" is used a lot.
Yea Desmond was done dirty
They basically built him up from a wimp to a badass, resolute assassin, only to waste him like that
Well I mean brave sacrifice is not a bad end to his arc, but it could have been executed much better
@@domovoi2861 Without him is not the same till this day. It was so satisfying to see a recap at the beginning of overy chapter of AC from 1 to 3. It was Desmond's story... And they ruined It just because some dumb guys didn't like him (never know how a person could dislike Desmond. He's basically you (the player)).
Still the 2nd best animations and look in AC history IMO, 2nd only to Unity. Also, 1:31 for me is the coolest part of any AC game, when you're walking behind enemies and get your weapon out.
They are amazing
i lowkey never understood the hate for the game. I played it on ps3 quite a few years ago but never even played as connor because i quit after like 2 chapters. I revisited the remastered this year and its definitely my favorite ac game of the first three ac games (including brotherhood and revelations). Connors character was just so interesting and the parkour was a huge step up from the previous games
It was a glitchy unfinished mess that had problems crashing. That's what the majority of the backlash was originally from.
I've heard random complaints the setting was boring but that opinion was from Brits so that has to be taken with a grain of salt.
Me and my homie played the shit out of this game in middle school. It was so cool that the environment was like it is where we live so we’d be fucking around running through deep ass snow thinking we were Conor, ripping through trees, always “assassinating” each other out of no where. Good times😢
Wow, such nice memories
This was the game that introduced me to the series. I was blown away when I came to find out that for some reason so many people disliked this game.
Same here
Connor is just the smoothest of the entire franchise. Surprised to see you didnt do a double kill with one arrow, I guess you now have to go back and clear another fort
Ahhh damn yeh i should do that
Yeah i would like to see that too!! The stealth here is soo satisfying I kinda hope there’s another video for this. And I have never played ac3 before so this is fascinating
I remember calling this game AC Deception, and this was mainly because they changed a lot of things, but the main problem I had was that parkour areas were nothing like the games before, and I mainly played this game for the parkour. Now, seeing how Origin and posterior games went, I'm seeing this game with different eyes. Also, on a side note, it had shipping involved which wasn't a big fan of it, but I remember when I touched ACBF, I was almost only in for the shipping part. Maybe I'll install AC3 again, because I have a vague memory of finishing it, but at the same time I'm not sure about it.
This was the first game i ever got hyped for i was 10 or 11 when the trailers started dropping from E3 and it truly established my love for videogames that was not even out yet.
1:23 Dude that was so clever!! Dropping the beretta where the guard can see as a substitute to him seeing the dead body; this is why I love your videos man 🔥
;) too kind homie
How he did it?
@@arturikartur9955 AltäirStealth found out that you can use a dead body's weapon to alert guards of a dead comrade instead of bringing the entire body into the guard's view. Tbh I didn't know about that mechanic before this video
@@evilkangaroo I mean shooting through guy, I knew this thing, used it
The detection system in the original AC 3 was broken and thankfully was fixed in Remaster. These forts were a thing of luck and some weird glitches when some guard on the opporite side of the fort would notice you through three walls. Other than that I always loved Connor and this game.
Oh man, it’s always a treat to see AC 3 master stealth clearing! Seems to be a void in the YT sphere for this content…Absolute banger of a vid!
Hope to see more! Perhaps we might even see some AC Liberation in the near future? Aveline’s outfit in white with the hood is straight up dope!
AC 3 can be hard to work with for stealth, it's such a combat-based game, and the detection system is a nightmare. That's probably why we don't see too many stealth videos on it. But it's so good once you get it right. AC Liberations is gonna be a while tho 😂😂
@@AltairStealthtru tru once you master it feels good
When it first came out i loved it was 17 at the time. Loved the bow and arrow mechanic found that so fun to utilize.
Sound design for the bow and arrow is so satisfying in this game
Awesome vid! I used to love trying to perfect stealth all of the forts in this game, it was a great challenge
Same here!
You make stealth in AC 3 look easy
thank you angel
I’ve always loved this game since it’s initially release and It has a soft spot in my heart. I love Connor as a character too. The combat, the story, the open world are so good in this game! Probably one of the reasons why i love this game is because of the setting it takes place in the American revolution is one of my favorite time periods. The ending however disappoints me every time.
They should have added his end speech
@@AltairStealthagreed his speech IMO is 🔥🔥
Yes, AC III's open world is one of my favorites too. Part of what makes it so good is that it is the natural evolution to the Ezio Trilogy while adding its own stuff and flavor to many of those ideas. AC III is the pinnacle of the old formula while opening the door to what Black Flag would become, afterwards.
To be honest, I always liked ACIII. As a matter of fact, and this may be an unpopular opinion, this was always one of my favorite AC games. Sure, there are things other AC games did better, but as a whole, I really enjoyed ACIII. I'm still sore about having the final kill stolen from me, as it happens in a cutscene after I "killed" him the first time, but it wasn't enough to ruin the game for me. Now Syndicate's ending, however... I'll save that part for another comment. Maybe.
so glad you enjoyed it man there are tones of people who feel the same
I remember seeing the trailers over and over, the smosh music video. And when i got my hands on it i played that game on my 360 a lot. Connor was and still is one of my favorite characters in the AC franchise, and the secondary missions were really fun to do as well. The relation Connor had with Haytham and Achilles really got me going. Also i LOVED the tomahawk's design too. Good times.
man, imagine you go back in time 10 years and play this game again as a kid
would love that
Assassin's Creed III was actually the first assassin's Creed I ever played, though I remember assassin's Creed being popular back then, ezio's cover art being all over the place, but at the time this game truly felt like an open world game and it took me almost a month to finish it but the way the characters we're out, the pacing of the story everything about it held true to an assassins creed game and to this day this is still in my top 3 assassin's Creed games.
AC3 was my first AC game and I adored it. I played through it 7 times as a kid and it holds a special place in my heart.
I especially loved the dart rope counter animation. Wonder why you didn’t do it
You not only did a perfect gameplay, you did it with no HUD showing youre a real AC player. I thought it was just me enjoying to play without it. You totally earnt my like
Thank you my friend!
I never hated this game...
It's still my favourite actually, even though my first AC game I played was ACII.
It still has my favourite setting, fighting, parkour and characters.
So i don't really get why would people hate ACIII.
Same,mine first too
Because it isn't Ezio, or some other stupid reason.
Because you’re playing as a Native American people have weird phobias when others are included
I really thought this was going to finally be the transition into modern day, after this. Especially with the reload/shooting mechanics. Would have been cool to see a watch dog style assassins creed.
I've never played watchdogs, what is the stealth like? is it silent melee takedowns or more like a sniper?
@@goofyahhgooberprodit’s like gta level movement with some vaulting and hacking here and there, nothing close to assassins creed
@@goofyahhgooberprod Mechanics are different, but there is still decent stealth. There was also a similar tone/cross over in the first one, where you kill an abstergo agent. Leading me to believe a modern day AC was in the works, at the time.
It seems like they were all blind and oblivious. The damn man is not even crouching but running and still no reaction
Nope always loved this game( got crapped on for it) Connors combat animations were so brutal and finally climbing trees felt so good. Connor was my first AC cosplay even own a functional AC style tomahawk
Can it down a tree? where'd you get it from
@goofyahhgooberprod etsy actually haven't tried a full tree I have used it on logs and on game meat during camping so yeah it works..
Connor is like the tank of whole AC franchise.
he is a beast
Assassin's Creed III was actually my first AC game, I'll never stop liking it actually. Also seeing how Desmond's story ended just made me want to play all the previous games as well to see his whole story. However because of my outdated PC, I only played up to Origins but I'll definitely play the rest once I upgrade.
Mayne, Your gameplay is always so much fun to watch
Thanks man
since i first played this game when i was to young to appreciate the story and just played for the gameplay i absolutely loved this game and it has been in my top 3 assassins creed games since then, not once did i ever dislike this game

@@AltairStealth you the king bro ur videos are the main reason i started playing assassins creed again and am debating on making videos about it, I’m beating every single one of them in order on the ps5 started with ac 2 because ac is only on ps3
Wow I’m so glad my videos got you playing again. You should definitely start making videos. Join the dark side.
@@AltairStealth do you play on console or pc?
Honestly I never understood how sometimes the gaming community can be so harsh on a game that is objectively one of the best in the series. The way it makes you doubt the assassins, the characters, the story… tbh the only thing that left me a bit unsatisfied is Desmond’s death, as I wished the series would’ve continued with him as the present day protagonist, but other than that it’s an amazing game for me
Band wagons are a shame
I always liked this game a lot, even if i played it only recently.
I know ac since the first game, but this acIII always amazed me by his animations, the more cinematic movements, the tools like rope dart are wild and badass. Just the fact we play as an american indian is awesome, it really makes me feel the freedom, the close to nature parkour, and as a great hunter, connor is for me a perfect assassin.
Well this game is very special in my heart : the snow, the parkour, tomahawk and rotative blade fights, his outfit is one of my fav if not my all fav.
It's the first ac game where you can vault over obstacles and there's a great amount of animations too
Gotta say, I don’t enjoy AC3 as much as the previous 4, but this video made me think I’m the problem because this looked so damn good, I need to improve at AC3. Great vid!
😂thanks homie
Man, I knew I wasn't crazy and was sure to remember how back in 2013 to 15 people hated AC3 for not having the same parkour as the previous entries and a very different combat which, ironically was the smoothest of the series so far, and now people seem to start calling it a good game when the gameplay was far more next gen than it's predecessors
You make it look so easy! Whenever I try to use the bow for stealth I end up alerting nearby enemies immediately or it doesn't take them down in one hit so they alert the other guards. To me it always seemed inconsistent with the stealth, but maybe I just sucked.
thank you!
I would like an sequel for Connor in the American Civil war
With shay son and his Grand son trying to Reasteblise the Templar colonial right with Arno hunting shay to avenge his father Death
Or an sequel for Arno in the Napoleonic wars
connor deserved a sequel
awesome video mate
Thanks a lot!
Who told you this game is hated.this is masterpiece
Many people didn’t like Connor as he wasn’t as charismatic as Ezio
you live under a rock don't you?
also, a masterpiece? not even close. this game is heavily flawed and is mediocre at best.
Ezio fckboys hated this game
I remember the haters. They had stupid reasons for hating on it. As is usually the case with most hater BS. No matter the game. Good games get hated.
First Assassins Creed game I ever played and it’s my all time favorite, it was a great game to get new people started so I never understood how people who have been plying the series didn’t like it. Connor is and absolute UNIT I love his robes and weapon art more than any other assassin.
His default robes are awesome
Yeah Connor is a great protagonist.
I remember being #1 on the global PC leaderboards for most pets petted in the game. No dog was safe from me
Wow
My word! That was very entertaining. How thorough.
Thank you!
This was my first assassins creed i love it.
its very good tbf

This was my first ac game and one of my favs idk why people hate on it so much grwat game ❤
It was underrated for too long
That hanging mechanic was so much fun. I used to try to string up guards together in the same tree as a warning to the other guards LOL.
We are the same person
@@AltairStealth LOL! So glad I wasn't the only one
The musket double assassinations are hilarious. Not only does the bayonet spike goes through the guys body, but the 3/4 inch hollow barrel does too.
Historically accurate af i bet
I’ve always loved ac3. it was my first assassins creed cuz of that one smosh music video LMAO
Lmaooo i remember thay
This has to be modded, the detection system in this game is horribly broken
Ai is dumb
3:42 gotta love that random bit of rifle glitch physics XD
it's aliveee!
still my favorite Assassin and game. loved the brutality and stealth of connor. plus seeing places somewhat familiar and historic figures very familiar was soooo cool.
I know Ezio will always be the preferred by the fandom but Connor got me.
I dont care what others think. The stoicism of Connor and his will to fight against all odds make him look the most admirable assassin for me.
He literally revived the Brotherhood in the Americas on his own. Well, with Achilles guiding.
He lost everything and everyone he had, and still kept fighting for what he though was right.
Thats probably the most sincere example of the Creed philosophy
And now it's a big masterpiece in the franchise. 😂
Depends who you ask lmao
@@AltairStealth what about you?

The combat is simply unmatched
Truly
it’s too easy imo
Is this a joke
nice gameplay, btw I did not know people were hating this game, It was already 2015 when I first tried ac1. I find that the ac fans always hate a game first then only to like it years later.
Thats pretty true
At least he spared the chicken.
Man.. Connor is a beast💪 Always a pleasure to see you handling him! I think the way you play can even make us love the worst AC game! (like Odyssey :p)
I appreciate that! I hope I can make another Odyssey video soon.
Ain't no way you did this without that ninja animus hack lol. But seriously though this is awesome and flashy. I myself am also getting better at stealthily taking down the forts in ac3. Great vid cause ac3 stealth is hard.
Glad you like it
0:25 I don’t think anyone is gonna get that guy down anytime soon 😂
Nope
I played this game back in 2012 after watching its gameplay trailer. I was hyped because of all the instant improvements I saw compared to the Ezio trilogy.
Can relate. When I played this game for the first time I kinda had to force myself to even finish it. Now, years later I really enjoy it every time I play it.
Strange, but apparently I'm not the only one.
3:25 connor is such a beast u could easily kill them all without smoke bombs, but yea great stealth video
Thank you!
The Charleston outfit looked so clean I would always see it as the outfit Connor would wear if for some reason he chose to side with the British
Yeah its slick af
Bro literally smoked them with the smokes right there
Assassin's steps were so soft they didn't leave any trails in the snow
Eivor :
I loved the variety in the use of equipment in this video. I find myself not using a lot of tools in this game as I don’t like the weapon UI, if only they had the weapon wheel like the previous games.
same i miss it
I was a senior in high school when I got this game , it was my favorite then and still is today . Always been a fan of this era . Never understood the hate
3:23 There is no way you just did that bro I'm fr blown away
rare af animation
I never really got why people hated this back in the day. It's got the smoothest gameplay of any of the AC games outside of maybe Unity and has a lot of what made the other games great too. It's tied for second best cast for me just behind 2, it's got the second best exploration behind 4, and Connor's one of the more underrated protagonists throughout the games. I loved how he doesn't really get a happy ending like anybody else and actually becomes more cynical and jaded. The Emperor Washington DLC was also just fucking badass.
3:24 I actually managed to do that feat in Syndicate. In the mission Cable News (where you’re introduced to Hallucinogenic Dart) I shot one at a flame barrel and had two mad grunts against a brute. The brute pulled out a pistol to shoot, which unknowingly alerted pretty much every enemies on the mission zone since the fight was dead set near the center of the zone. Saw a bunch of enemies piling up to investigate, and at that moment I knew exactly what to do.
It was a great murder streak, but I eventually had to restart cuz of the optional objective. It was really fun doing so though.
Must’ve been epic
@@AltairStealth I actually kept a clip. Lemme upload it and link it here later

I loved this game from the beginning despite the fact that I played all the previous titles. Maybe this sounds funny but through AC3 I discovered my love for hunting and just wandering through the woods and the nature during summer & winter. This was the first game where I did some hunting and I loves this part. Also just running and jumping through the forest was dope.
My first game from the series was AC4, with AC3 right after it. I've lost count of the hours I've dumped into both games just exploring, hunting and generally soaking the world in. And the animations were just 👌.
the kenway games have aged very well
Rockin' that Jamestown outfit. My favorite outfit color scheme in this game.
Its so slick
As a man who has played every single Assassins Creed game…
This was actually always my favorite Assassins Creed game. I suffered harsh ridicule from many AC fans when this first came out in 2013. I didn’t just enjoy the gameplay. I loved the story, I loved the setting, I loved Connor Kenway as a character. To this day, he’s still my all-time favorite assassin.
People hated him because he was the very antithesis of Ezio. He was blunt, he was emotionally listless, he was honest to a fault. But rather than seeing a less interesting alternative to another great character, I saw a broken character. I guy who, quite frankly, suffered far more than Ezio ever did. Yet he still prevailed and did his best to do the right thing.
This game may not age well as more and more AC games continue to come out. It may never be considered one of the greatest games in the series, but it will always be my favorite.
Man ran like an absolute tank!
😎😎
You don’t know what you got until something worse shows up to replace it.
I've been debating buying AC3 Remastered and replaying the game. I was very close to doing it, since I never got to play the DLC's the first time around. This 5 minute video has pushed me over the edge. I'm going to buy it today. Awesome gameplay, by the way.
Hope you enjoy it!
I forced myself through my first playthrough, but I did play it RIGHT after playing all the previous games. Once I was through, I played it again right away. The problem I had was that I did not particularly like any characters and couldn't see myself in any of them. The first time, I only played for Desmond, and the second time, I had already started to like Haytham a lot and also Connor. Just had to warm up to them.
III was the second AC game I played, after Black Flag. Then I went back and played the Ezio trilogy. While undoubtedly, AC 2 is the best one.. this one had this really special appeal to it that's difficult to describe. From entering the opera as Haytham, to exploring Boston for the first time as Achilles, to that sequence where you command soldiers, to the prison part, everything about the game is so so memorable to me.
Classic
I think a large reason i didnt like this game was how the hidden blade turns into a knife, it defeats the purpose, at least for me
Beautifully done. Especially that mass assassination.
Thank you!!
I'm playing through all the games now after only ever playing up to AC2, love the content
Oh you're in for a good time
Im actually looking forward to replaying this. I just beat brotherhood for the first time, and im gonna olay Rev soon after.
I like how he doesn't even need to hold a weapon and uses telepathy to stab the enemy with a bayonet at 3:42.. such a good game 🫢
Got in trouble back when ac3 first came out. I opened it up as a Christmas present, only it was a few days before Christmas lol. I put a revelations cd in the case to make it seem like I was playing an older game I owned. Didn’t work lol 😂
The haters didn’t care for the haytham chapters, or the JungleBook Connor as a kid stuff, they said the combat and stealth were buggy. (Not my sentiments)
But now…”underrated” and “brilliant” (not my words)
0:53 lmao this guard disappeared into thin air. And then appears again in 1:02.
At the time, I adored this game and its still easily in my top 5 creed games, everything from the story, combat, music just floored me then.
Just started it and it is so beautiful, even through the switch version experiences plenty of frame rate drops
Best thing in the game is the high profile unarmed takedown from behind
I feel like a lot of people hated on the game because of Desmond’s death, but this was always one of my all-time favorites (I loved Connor, and the native details on his outfit, his whole storyline of growing up in the village, and TREE RUNNING, I loved the Bow and arrow, and the tomahawk shaped like an Assassin’s Symbol, and of course the plot) I hated Desmond’s death too, and I’ve always wanted to see his original storyline finished (he was gonna be able to see his ancestors memories without needing the animus, it wasn’t fully explained how this would work but we got a glimpse of it in his “hallucinations” where he saw guards along the hallway doors, or when he saw Ezio at the villa Auditore, it was clearly getting more accurate since the holy guards in the hallway were clearly in the wrong place, but Ezio’s were in the place they actually happened. He was probably gonna be able to walk into a place and if any of his ancestors had an important memory in that spot, then he would see it/“live” it)
Holy shit that's a a lot of guards checking out the explosion lol
Ikr 💀
I can confidently say i always enjoyed this game and decided to play it again recently and still enjoyed it. I wish the graphics were a bit more up to date but its not necessary to enjoy. Comor also had the best outfit aa well in my opinion.
The best combat system in all ac games, and one of the most underrated assassin of the whole ac universe.
