Who need turn 8 Istanbul when you can get Turn 1 in Oschersleben
"The guy who designed this first corner should be taken into a dark room and BEATEN!"
@@Deaconhall 2008 WTCC round oschersleben british broadcast :D
I remember Oschersleben from a game for Nintendo DS. Since the game was the opposite of "simulator" I thought that I was the only one that couldn't nail that freaking turn. lol
Who needs those if you can get turn 1 from Montjuic park?
to be fair they changed t1 some time ago so no more 90° hell
Out of all the tilkedromes, this one's one of the few good ones
This Juan is a good Juan, Juan of the good Juan's for sure.
Motorland Aragon is also very cool
COTA is pretty good, right?
@@namenamename390 meh, I think it's just ok. In a sim at least it feels really awkward to drive, but that's just personal preference.
The racing is just ok, it has never created an actual A+ race though.
And the looks of the track are very Tilke. Tarmac runoff everywhere. It makes the track feel a bit forgettable to me.
But that's just my opinion, feel free to disagree.
@@dani02_mmd well, at least we can agree that it isn't on the awful level of Sochi or Yas Marina (although I'm interested how this year's Abu Dhabi GP will be with the modifications)
Love how at 8:15 he basically called exactly what leclerc did
He predicted it lol
I think Malaysia - the first Tilke track to my recollection - is probably still his best track; not a perfect track by any means, but definitely iconic in F1 history and unique. Everything after has pretty much been evolutionary or rehashes. I remember watching Sepang's debut in 1999 and I couldn't believe how wide the track was. Incidentally, I rank the 1999 race as one of Michael Schumacher's finest ever performances - and I say that as someone who isn't particularly a Schumacher fan.
A great track indeed.
W I D E
Yep Malaysia is his best track . Its a great track full stop.
That 99 year was cursed for Michael though.
@@djdrastic1 I wouldn't say it was cursed; he suffered a major accident, which almost every Formula 1 driver experiences at least once in their career. He was fortunate to recover like he did and to subsequently dominate the sport.
The Oxford Dictionary seriously recommends the plural of 'apex' to be 'apices'. Mad props to South Paw Racer for mentioning this piece of lost knowledge.
That follows from the plural forms of words like index (indices), appendix (appendices), matrix (matrices), vertex (vertices), etc.
Of course, this being English, there are words that don't follow this pattern, like complex, reflex, etc.
It was F1 on Ice.
Still laughing at the track workers trying to rubber in the circuit between Friday and Saturday only to have it rain and be wet the rest of the weekend
sadly istanbul park is kinda like a one-off appearance
Or any of the substitute tracks for that matter. Pretty far-fetched to hope any of those (Portimão, Imola, Nür or this one) is going to be featured at that April TBA slot.
@@VGOM2000 hopefully that wasnt vietnam
@@rosso4k it was.
@@dustinlindsey1859 is it ??
HAHA! IT IS IN 2021'S CALENDER TOO NOW
How did I miss these 2020 videos, really love the serious approach with proper insight.
this track seems like the only modern track that can hold wheel to wheel battle with modern F1 cars.
The super serious moment made me so happy...
Another fine video. Although modern F1 cars have neutered Istanbul somewhat, it is an excellent GT endurance track. Try the RSS GT1 cars or modern GT3s on the Assetto Corsa version for simracing fun. (Incidentally, Rhys's videos show that AMS1 still has a lot to offer.)
Tilke gets a lot of hate but Turkey, Malaysia, China, COTA &Bahrain have all had brilliant F1 races in the past... how many good races have there been in Spain? (Ok, Abu Dhabi is shit, I’ll be the first to admit!!!)
I just wish the run off areas were replaced with GRASS & GRAVEL because then Turkey would actually be my favourite track on AC & RF2 😜
Thank you so much i was waiting for this for so long!
if this guy ever does a super serious track guide/slightly serious showcase on the nurburgring nordschleife its gonna be one hell of a movie
Can you do a slightly serious track guide on an oval
lol
T1&2 looks so like interlagos I got lost for a minute
I think this track, with the 2022 regulations will be great. Current cars have SO much downforce that a lot of the challenge can be taken out.
Far from the worst Tilkedrome, but I've been a fan of it for a while.
Would probably put it 3rd, behind Sepang and the Buddh circuit (dont @ me that's a great track)
But everything after Bahrain was basically just the same track just stitched differently
Turn 8 would probably be dramatically less exciting considering modern cars can easily take it flat
Drivers necks disagree
2019 tyres disagree
@@Okuni_ lol
Turkey GP: _Allow me to introduce rain_
Glad to see more videos. Keep up the great work
Fun Fact : Fans were actually gonna be allowed and my family had bought tickets, but due to rising virus cases they had to cancel the attendance of fans, woulda been the first F1 race i would have ever gone to ! Thankfully the tickets were refunded
(Also sending cheers from Turkey mate, love ya vids)
Iirc it was done not a month before the race, so yeah, I would be a little bit salty over that...
Adds insult to injury that someone had botted every site that was selling tickets for the race and so they had to raise the price, and so we couldn't buy tickets for the stands and just ended up getting tickets to be on the ground...heard its pretty common that this happens tho...
@@harpysharpy104 That sucks mate. Dont worry, the virus wont last forever but F1 will. You will get to attend a race some day.
@@matgee8892 Thanks, and yeah i'll attend an F1 race and maybe, if things go lucky in the future...maybe partake in it as well
@@harpysharpy104 Now that's unfortunate. If it serves as any kind of consolation, my country's GP is one of the most feared; every year, at least one team gets robbed lmao
I like Istanbul turn 8's mirrored twin at Circuit of the Americas
9:20 "The hypocracy of staging an international motorsports event in a country with a poor recent human rights record"
[Saudi Arabia would like to know your location]
*Bahrain, Azerbaijan, Russia and UAE are knocking on the door: "OPEN UP!"*
There's a very good rFactor 2 mod that we tested a while ago that - as far as we can see - is not a rip
In the end, the track resurfacing helped make Turn 8 a real challenge again 🤙🤙
Great video as always mate!
Love this track (have it on F1 99-02 with 08' season mod). One crucial point for this track - ElEvAtiOn - that is what makes this track at least good (no matter what cars we have). Very good or great - will see. Also depends on DRS "strategy" on this track - as long as there is similar strength of it on Fast and S/F straight - gonna be fun as last 3 corners really gonna be challenge for rear of some F1 cars (that proves to be pretty tricky to control).
Cool
I might be boring but I think that TBC slot goes to australian gp if/when it gets delayed
If only you could have known about what those final corners would bring
Not a bad looking circuit design overall. I think of a very good design by Hermann Tilke. Love turn 8 and really like the back-and-forth turns 12-14 complex.
8:19 sad Leclerc noises.
You should make super serious track guides instead of slightly serious ones.
SSTGs aren't going anywhere, I'm still working on new ones!
@@SouthPawRacer you should do What you Want😊
@@SouthPawRacer Maybe the Jeddah Street Circuit will be something to work with, but I'm always open for your choices. You have already covered many tracks that I didn't even know existed, and there must be plenty of other dreadful circuits out there :D
Don't forget that Tilke designed this track
It's okay, but I think Portimao is more deserving of the TBA slot on the 2021 calendar.
idk istanbul park always give good racing and easy to control but portimaos will be good for DHL
Even though turn 8 will be easy flat in modern F1 I love Istanbul. It's wide, has heavy braking, has some banking on the corners a few places to overtake. I'm a fan.
I think Southpaw has it right, it'll be flat but it won't be easy to be fast in it, especially with the way the cars have been dancing around in P2. I did a LMP2 endurance race here as part of a sim league once and if you got it lined up right it felt like getting shot out of a catapult.
Do one for Bahrain please!
I think you undersold the last complex of Istanbul Park a little. It's not built that way for driver's enjoyment, but in order to create battles with multiple switchback opportunities that last at least until T1 of the circuit. Judging it from a driver's perspective on a hotlap seems like missing the point a little.
Also, Turn 8 will most likely not be flat-out during the race, when they run through it on heavy fuel.
If turn 8 started to tighten after the second apex I think it would be harder and more of a challenge
why did tilke get to design so many f1 tracks?
why didn't other track designers get more tracks?
I wish I knew it
I miss MotoGP here. They came in, stayed for only a few years, and moved on.
here we go again
it is a tillke drome. but it is everything there is good about tillke dromes.
It’s my birthday, and your post is my first present :))))))
I MISSED THE VIDEO BY ONE DAY
So about taking T8 flat
The track is very solid for racing and overtaking. But I'm not a fan of it. Turns 4,5,13 and 14 are my main problems. Though I will still be excited if it becomes a proper fixture of the f1 calender. Looks unlikely though
Perfect timing YT
One Tilke goods tracks
Eh... Turkey is okay. Or is it... *looks around* Turkeight, only known for its most famous corner?
So i don't really know why, but i'm not a Fan of Turn8. For me the last 3 corners on to the Start/Finish straight, remembering the Battle between the Mclaren's, is the highlight on this track for me.
Turkey pog
Its 3,6 not great not terrible
#TurkishGP in #IstanbulPark (#Turkiye)
You're a little blurry mate xD
Yeah just a bit :( I swear I pulled focus! that issue will be fixed
1. I blame Webber for the Turkey crash
2. Am I the only person who likes yas marina these days????
Yes and yes.
Ironically, the shorter layouts of Yas Marina aren't the worst ever.
You are absolutely wrong, and yes
Webber and Vettel 2010 Replay at last turn again .
"What da dawg doin"
Is there any reason why you don’t use Assetto Corsa?
Mainly because I'm more familiar with the camera controls in AMS :P Also that the versions of Istanbul on AC weren't what I was visually looking for.
I do love the RSS Formula Hybrid though, and it's likely I'll do the next of these videos in AC!
@@SouthPawRacer
AC I just don't like as much as AMS, maybe it's some of the mods I can drive on it. I barely used AC although it does have it's moments for me.

good track, just need to get rid of those final corners. or maybe all the corners. the track can be just turn 8. good idea there
The city is not called Istanbul
It’s called
Byzantium
Can I call it Constantinople? :D
@@peterdaviesracing yes
lol it sounds more like a chemical element
I clicked Show more. Was expecting Constantinople.
I LOL'd.
Then I winced, as I sprained my back 5 days ago. The lol was worth it though.
I know this track was originally designed to be ran clockwise so the “W” at the end of the lap would’ve been the beginning
You should do a super serious guide to watkins Glen international
But Watkins Glen is a good track in all forms.
Who's the one downvote? uncool
It doesn't even look like a turkey 3/10
Honestly I think Istanbul is quite an overrated track. Quite forgettable other than turn 8.
I wouldn't say that it is a good track. It's meh at best
It's catalunia
Please dis a track everyone like
I wanna see people get triggered
I remember this track from Race 07. Another awful F1 track. Totally boring. I can’t believe this track was actually “designed”. Put it along side Monza, Hungaroring, Slovakia, Zolder, Brno...all totally mega boring.
