Ryan O'Neal was a big "heartthrob" what with Peyton Place and the movie "Love Story". He even had a few more big hits with "Paper Moon: and "Love Story".....but he was a real jerk. He basically treated his daughter Tatum like shit.....neglected her while he ran around and screwed everyone till he found Farah Fawcett.
About these 60's dancers: if you think this is bad, check out some old "Dark Shadows" episodes, with scenes at the Blue Whale, you'll really get a laugh!
I was a teen during those YEARS and these were the first times when we danc3d independently instead of together. It was an exciting time and we had many weird dances along the way but we sure had FUN! And someone mentioned this was before the Beatles but actually it was at the same time. I used to go to my friends house and we would sing Beatles songs to the piano whilst waiting for the show to air, great times!
You Bet!!! They were very respectful times, except for the treatment of womenin . But this was a growing community from way back. I am sure happy society is working this out but now we are losing respecr and discrimation is also a growing concern.
No, actually. Freezing your butt off in the winter and messing with garter belts for daily use instead of play use was freakin’ awful. Don’t romanticize those days.
🌍 Where I was born, the time had five seasons. The fifth season was named love........ I like the original film 1957, with Lana Turner, Diane Varsi, Hope Lange, Lee Phillips, Lloyd Nollan,........ and every actor and actress.
Yeah, yeah....the 'pretty' formula. Betty has dark hair (evil) and Allison has long and light coloured tresses (saintly.)I will say Barbara was a better actress than Mia.....
She looks like Jamie Lynn Sigler. How different are New England attitudes from New Jersey attitudes. Oh yes and the fact that Peyton Place was aired over half a century ago.
So does Betty think she’s pregnant? They are talking circles around whatever the issue is. One minute I think she’s pregnant then the next I think she’s just depressed.
In those days, you couldn't even say the word 'pregnant'. You had to say that the girl was 'in trouble'. Betty was pregnant but she lost the baby in that car accident that she had with Rodney. She continued to let Rodney think that she was still pregnant after the accident to 'trap' him into marriage. She did not want to lose her man to good-girl Alison.
The first observation would lead to the second back then, don’t kid yourself. It was social suicide to “get in trouble” and the only options were a long visit to a long distant aunt, an illegal abortion or a shotgun wedding. You’d be “depressed” as well.
@TaDarling......Although this series is 55 years old.....why would you let the cat out of the bag as to what happens within this particular conflict with Betty and Rodney!!
I agree about the spastic dancers but back in the 1960's, that's the way everyone danced. And if you didn't dance that way, you were considered 'uncool'. It was funny to watch back then but it's hilarious to see now. They look like they're having seizures 😁

No offence intended; but that is how the white kids danced back then. Now....I know that ALL African-American people cannot dance/sing/play sports, etc., but African-Americans move and have a different rhythm that is rooted in our culture and our DNA, that is wwwaaayyyyy different than other races. I am African-American and was 16 years old when this series debuted. I was a great dancer, learned all of the dances that originated out of our culture. At the school dances, when the music came on that you see these white kids dancing to in this episode...the Black kids sat down....because all that wiry, crazy, spastic hopping around; just didn't fit with our rhythm or our natural cool!
Most everyone smoked in those days. They smoked everywhere...hospitals, libraries, elevators, etc. They'd light up a cigarette in someone's home without even asking if they minded.
Kind of scarey you asked about smoking! Makes me feel older than I am. Back in the "olden days", everyone smoked EVERYWHERE, even on planes. I remember how traumatic it was when smoking started being banned.
Okay...here's one for the books...Alison is supposed to be 18. In this episode she commented to her mother that Rodney is just 2 years older than her. That would make him 20. What's a 20-year old doing in high school?
@@proudcynophile1901 Oh, I see. So he's like a college-freshman dating a high school girl. That makes much more sense than him still being in high school. Thanks for the clarity.
Rodney works at the mill, apparently. He can get into a high school dance because his date is a high schooler, it's a small town, and everyone knows each other. Everyone has known him for so long, they don't notice his age ...yet. The stupidest thing that ever happened to me in this regard is that when I was in graduate school, a girl from a small town we once lived in called my mother and asked for my phone number because she wanted me to take her to the prom, or something of that sort. I would have to have been at least 23. My parents had moved away, too, but because of my father's job, they were locateable. She didn't succeed in getting the number --thank God.

Over the years, there’s been a few times I’ve missed having a kitchen with 4 walls and a door.
Barbara Parkins was is gorgeous. She was stunning in Valley of The Dolls.
Yes and I wish she would ignore Rodney, but it's not easy after he got her pregnant., the jerk.
Barbara Parkins was not only beautiful but a very good dancer too.
Unforgettable Dorothy Malone in this moovie ! So much smart and human (sophisticated just a little)
Remember my mom dancing in the living room with her great big huge stereo play in her records dancing like this

I agree. But I LOVE Dark Shadows! ❤️🧛♂️
How about "Where the Boys Are"? Lots of bad dancing back then!

Betty’s dancing was about as subtle as a train wreck.
Betty wasn't a tramp
Rodney was thoughtless, selfish boy
If his mother was a Peyton. I could see it
Don't know why Rodney is judging Betty for going to bed with him so soon, wait until he finds out just how good a woman his mother was. Stay tuned.
Betty Anderson was alway written to me so very much in completion wit Allison McKenzie.
All the “boys” are wearing suits and the girls are wearing dresses.. I love it! Wouldn’t it be nice if that’s how we dressed now?
You Bet!!! They were very respectful times, except for the treatment of womenin . But this was a growing community from way back. I am sure happy society is working this out but now we are losing respecr and discrimation is also a growing concern.
Yes, it would be nice to once again see that type of formal dress. Today, you only see it at funerals (and sometimes weddings, but not always).
No matter what, someone would get beaten up outside by Antifa for "cultural appropriation. "
No, actually. Freezing your butt off in the winter and messing with garter belts for daily use instead of play use was freakin’ awful. Don’t romanticize those days.

She looks like Jamie Lynn Sigler. How different are New England attitudes from New Jersey attitudes. Oh yes and the fact that Peyton Place was aired over half a century ago.
I like her in Valley of the Dolls when she was innocent and caring.
She was always caring. I've never seen Allison help anyone without having to be paid.
Oh my nerves! The dancing!
Pre-Beatles! Says it all really.

The music stopped. The Betty show is over, for now.
Why is Dr Rossi smoking?

The dancing was painful to watch 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Betty’s revenge dance was worth watching just to see Rodney squirm! Betty Anderson with her date Bud straight from Father knows best.
Betty danced very well but I rather dance in Rodney's arms.
Barbara Perkins was a professional dancer, besides being a great actress.
