    Boy, how this takes me back, I had forgotten about this one..🤣. Thank you. Tim Conway, Carol Burnett and Red Skelton were my favorite comedians, whatever they did was pure genius and funny….lots of good laughs no matter what happened on the set, even live action was ad-libbed to perfection…..RIP to all….👍❤️🙏🏼

      And the dentist bit on the Carol Burnett show. Harvey Korman reportedly wet his pants trying to keep from laughing and had to change trousers before the next skit.
      One of the harder Carol Burnett skits to find (occasionally) is the "Wrong Number" skit. Worth looking at. It appears and disappears from YT periodically.

    I think that's Mike Mazurki as the prisoner. I was about 11 when Rango premiered. Thought it was pretty funny. One episode had Rango as an Indian named Moonface. Antagonist asked "What tribe are you from?" Rango hesitated, making up an answer. "From the...Minnetonkas....from the Land of Sky Blue Waters." Which of course was the Hamm's beer slogan. Busted me up.

And I forgot that Junction City was also the name of the city that he played in with Don Knotts in The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again, another hilariously funny comedy. This ABC series was the first for Danny Thomas and Aaron Spelling, as their Thomas-Spelling Productions company would move on to "THE MOD SQUAD" for ABC in 1968, and "THE NEW PEOPLE" in 1969 (part of ABC"s 90-minute format with "MUSIC SCENE"), shortly before becoming Spelling-Goldberg Productions with Leonard Goldberg in the 1970s (where they also produced "THE ROOKIES", "S.W.A.T.", "STARSKY & HUTCH", and "CHARLIE'S ANGELS", along with "FANTASY ISLAND" (1977-1986), "HART TO HART", (1979-1984), and "TJ HOOKER" (1982-1986)-the three were co-produced with Columbia Pictures Television (now SONY)-but "RANGO" was a rare, short-lived ABC series-oh yes, I also forgot "THE GUNS OF WILL SONNETT", another Thomas-Spelling production, also for ABC in 1967, which ran until 1969, with 50 episodes. Walter Brennan, who previously starred in "THE MILLIONAIRE" and "THE REAL McCOYS", actually cackled with delight on the Paramount lot with his crew when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was killed in 1968 by an assassin's bullet-nice fellow!

    • @MONGOOSE1ful
      @MONGOOSE1ful 2 роки тому +3

      Correction: Walter Brennan's other ABC series was called "THE TYCOON" (1964-65) from Danny Thomas Productions, which starred "SURFSIDE SIX" and "GREEN HORNET actor, Van Williams. that TV series was also shot on the Desilu Studios lot. Walter Brennan was also ultra-conservative, and very racist- the actor also said about the 1965 Watts riots, that they could've been stopped with a machine gun -again, what a nice guy (not!)

      "hhvictor2462," "Laramie" and "Alias Smith and Jones" comedy westerns?!?! All that traditional western action and mayhem in "Laramie" with robberies, murders, fist fights, damsels in REAL distress, bar room brawls, stage hold-ups?! Robert Fuller and John Smith are turning over in their graves.
      A REAL comedy is "Pistols 'n Petticoats" starring Ann Sheridan (Warner Bros.' "oomph girl" from the 1940s), Gary Vinson ("McHale's Navy" vet, here as the idiot sheriff), one of '60s television PRETTIEST, full-figured blondes, Carole Wells ("National Velvet") and Sheridan's fellow senior citizens rounding out the cast, Douglas Fowley and Ruth McDevitt. From Universal TV on CBS, 1966 - 67. While I'm a Tim Conway fan like most on this chat board, his "Rango" writers 'left him hanging' on too many of their scripts. Producer Aaron Spelling failed him -- and the audience.To be objectively blunt: "F-Troop" and "Pistols 'n Petticoats" 'were Shakespeare' compared to "Rango." Fortunately many "P&P" episodes are available on UA-cam.
      "Alias Smith and Jones" a comedy? WHAT, pray tell, are you talking about?! Oh yeah, like their episode 'The Bounty Hunter' where the posse of racists, lead by racist numero uno R.G.Armstrong, shoots Louis Gosset, Jr.'s EX-SLAVE-turned-successful, (black) bounty hunter character -- COLD-BLOODED MURDER in the BACK! -- THAT'S FUNNY?! I think not [ -- as Rango's boss Capt. Horton would chastise Rango.] . . . . . "The Fifth Victim" in which 'A killer's picking off participants in a poker game one by one, including the attempted murders of Hayes and Curry, to conceal the real target. [IMDB synopsis] . . . . 'Smiler with a Gun' where guest star Roger Davis steals the hard-earned, mined gold and leaves the boys and fellow guest star Will Geer stranded in the desert -- following months of working a gold mine -- with no horses and no water -- almost CERTAIN to die of the elements. . . .
      'Stagecoach 7' that contains one of the longest gun battles of all TV westerns where guest star L.Q. Jones and his cronies assault the way station where the boys and other stage coach passengers -- including a young mother and her infant child -- with seemingly ENDLESS gunfire emanating from both sides. . . . . 'The Man Who Murdered Himself' where we see guest star Patrick Macnee ("The Avengers") pick off his victim(s) by calculated, concealed, long-range rifle fire. . . . Curry repeatedly threatened with imminent death by gunshot over the loss of $50,000 which he was requisitioned to deliver to a far away bank -- 'The Girl in Boxcar #3.' . . . . 'Exit from Wickenburg' where guest star Pernell Roberts, a MEAN Pernell Roberts, and his goons make life PAINFUL for the boys and hellish for fellow guest star Susan Srasberg's single mother / saloon owner whom he's trying to make life so difficult for, she'll be forced to sell her saloon (where she's employed 'Smith and Jones' / Heyes and Curry to protect her interests) to him. . . . . 'Never Trust an Honest Man' where guest star Richard Anderson's repeat fire from his Winchester makes the boys' escape from a box canyon a very close call; MEANWHILE one of their former gang members is in jail awaiting the hangman's noose. . . . .
      'Wrong Train to Brimstone' where the guys' nemesis, Bannerman Detective Agency's Charlie O'Rourke (recurring guest star J.D. Cannon) has a posse ready to assassinate all the remaining Hole in the Wall gang members by way of gunfire from an ambush from a train's coach. . . . 'Shootout at Diablo Station' where guest villain Neville Brand ("Laredo") repeatedly threatens with instant death -- and he means it -- by bullet the boys and other stagecoach passengers (INCLUDING lovely guest performer Anne Archer) and station master, Pat O'Brien (like Ann Sheridan mentioned above, another veteran Warner Bros. star). He's got each of them tied up by rope at a way station so HE can assassinate responding-to-delayed-stage Sheriff Lom Trevors -- the only person in on 'our little secret' of amnesty -- with conditions -- offered by the territorial governor. . . . .
      '21 Days to Tenstrike' -- Murders EACH night of a drover on a cattle drive on which the boys are working as hands. . . . Often the titles alone let prospective viewers know 'this ain't a comedy' e.g., 'Something to Get Hung About,' 'Which Way to the O.K. Corral?", 'The Day They Hanged Kid Curry,' 'The Posse That Wouldn't Quit,' 'Bushwack!' ('first of 5 year-three episodes to deal with the real life Wyoming Stock Growers' Association which lead to the Johnson County War of 1892' [IMDB], 'Witness to a Lynching.'
      . . . . .
      "hhvictor2462," suggest you find an adult friend and / or adult relative and binge watch your DVDs of "Laramie" and "Alias Smith and Jones" for a MAJOR refresher course so you can modify your WAY OFF THE MARK, ludicrous Comment.

It was fun to watch, and had its comedic moments, but it wasn't funny enough to pull in the ratings (even as a kid I could see that), and so, it was canceled. On these "lost" series, you take what you could get. Our 16mm film print is black and white.

    Yes, Conway could be very funny, but as in this, there was a lot of overdone stupidity. I don't know about anybody else, but to me it was often too much and got tiring, depending on the writers. In a 30 minute series, like this, I need a break from the sight gags and/or slap stick, once in a while. Too predictable, I guess. We did get a bit of a break right at the end, before during, and a bit after the woman's confession.

    Not even a comedy genius like Conway could make that stale, moldy old script funny. I bet these writers also wrote for the Keystone Kops and Fatty Arbuckle.
