  • Newsflash: It's totally ok and even necessary to be able to stand and walk with straight knees. Straight isn't locked. So what is?
Locked knees is an untechnical term that usually means one of three things:
    1) Pushing your knees back and holding them in hyperextension (e.g. straightened past straight).
    2) Holding your hips forward of your heels - this is very common and looks like hyperextension but it’s a whole other problem.
    3) Holding your thighs tense all the time - this pulls our knee caps up and causes a lot of friction - not great in the long term.
Today I'm talking about number three - how to untense and unlock your knees for happier knees!

Thanks for exploring this, Petra. This answers the question I asked you awhile back about locked knees. I will check out the vids pertaining to strengthening hamstrings/back chain and do more psoas work. I can't seem to stop wearing my knees up at my hips! LOL. Ugh.

Ah, I'm glad it clicked for you. I put another one up in the T10 FAQs you can take a look at as well if you feel like you'd like some more. And I just put up a new knee class too you can try and tell me what you think - it's kind of a different way into it because it's working on flexion - but I suspect that for you we're going to want to just keep picking away at it in all kinds of directions. Happy to keep working on this with you - I have plans for a couple more knee classes with you in mind but i need to put some other ones up as well :)
