Vulcan V70 Versus Fracking Trailers...

- Опубліковано 30 гру 2021
- Using our Western Star with a Miller Industries, Vulcan V70 to lift and tow several fracking trailers, frac tanks, from a storage yard to a jobsite. These trailers were not being used for fracking, but for holding water that was having to be pumped out of a ditch. In this video, Kenny and I work together to get the rhythm of how to safely move them, and then I let Kenny take over so I can get back to the shop for other duties. Nothing a little experience and ingenuity can't solve. As I've said, I'm needed more in the office now since Dad died. We are managing. We will continue to go and grow, as he would have wanted us to do. Again, I wish to thank everyone who has expressed their prayers and/or condolences for the death of my Dad. The outpouring of support from my viewers has been tremendous and has helped in this difficult time. May God bless each and every one of you. Also, thank you for your patience. I am still making videos, but I took a couple weeks off-call after my dad passed, so I wasn't doing very many jobs. This is another job trying to get to the new normal without Dad. I will continue to perform jobs and create videos, as long as God allows. Things will be different moving forward. I have to trust that God will guide me and this channel.
Again, a very special thank you to all my viewers, family, and friends who having taken the time to show their support. May God bless and protect you all!!

Being from TX and have worked on the oilfield, I am well versed on the frac tank. Always need to be emptied before moved. No parking brakes on the wheels, when set down, the wheels are actually almost totally off the ground. Use a winch truck with rails on either side of the 5th wheel all the way back to end of frame and hook wire rope through middle section of tubing above king pin and snatch into the 5th wheel.
Hope this helps paint a pic of how they tote them around in the oilfield.
Ron, your statement, "You have clearance, Clarence," reminds me of a job I was on. We were taking carpet tiles out of the locker rooms at work, so the assignments went out, two of the more notable ones were, "Norman the doorman." He held the door open for "Buck the truck driver (push cart)."
That’s exactly what your dad would want. Keep moving forward your growth and productivity honors him .
I'm pretty sure those trailers can only be pulled empty because they only have one axle if they were full that axle would not support all that weight . They are used to store liquid mostly contaminated on a site and then pumped into a tanker that can handle the weight. I always enjoy your videos and We all know your dad is watching so don't mess up LOL
Definitely they are to heavy to haul when full. the ones I haul hold twenty one thousand gallons of water
Correct. That and they're heavy like 25,000+lbs empty. Typically they're made with 3/16" or thicker walls. We have a few of them and I can't pick up the nose with our 12k lift, I have to use the gin pole truck.
Some people get them put in spots that is useless. But your right. They should lift it with a crane, but that is 8.5-25k for a 20t crane
these absolutely can not be moved loaded. I use to clean these. They had to be 100% clean to legally move down the road. There not rated for chemical transportation, there are no baffles. They are just a portable holding tank.
Yep you got that wright can only pull empty. All the weight will go to the back once you pick it up and bust the tires.. seen it done.. the landfield use a lot them and we pump out tank Into our trailers..
Ron I can guarantee that your father is up in heaven watching over everything that you do to keep you safe also also your family🙏
Any amount of time you need Ron don't be afraid to take it. Your Dad would be pleased with you moving forward. All of your viewers who have lost a loved one should understand. I enjoy your videos. There are very informative and inspiring. Thank you for all you do for us and your community. May God bless you with the health, strength and the compassion to continue doing what you enjoy.
I know how you feel about your dad. I lost my grandpa/best friend in 2014. Still struggling to move on but it gets a littler easier as a year to go by goodbye. God bless you my friend!!!
Your dad was a great man Ron I’ve been watching your videos for a long time now and he was a very smart man
Ron, I have to say thank you. You got me into the towing industry and I can honestly say I have never been happier at a job. There is nothing like the sense of accomplishment after getting a difficult job done. Again thank you
Speaking from Poplar Bluff, MO and age 75, Ron is the prime example of a fair and honest family run business. Sorry for your recent loss however the passage of time renews lots of things and while your dads presence will be sorely missed by all, his example lives on through those he touched. I admire your work and business ethic plus truly enjoy your video work despite its electronic nature. Yes, retired photographer and paralegal PI who sorely misses some of the old days
Ron, may this new year bring new experiences and true joy. Praying for your family and employees. Love what you bring with the videos. We appreciate your time and effort.
They say a boy becomes a man when he buries his father. You sir appear to be handling the passing of your father very well. Keep on carrying on.
You’re dad still watching over you, your family and the crew.
Another Quality Recovery with Zero Damage to the Container. Kenny is a real asset to your team. 👍
Love how u both giggle about the breaks on the trailer lol …it looked pretty smooth and not rocking side to side
30:34 almost slipped. Good catch Ron 🤣👌🏼
Ron! Thanks for teaching me what those trailers are! I never knew what they were until I saw this video! Again condolences from Wisconsin to u and ur family on the passing of ur father, may God rest his soul
Gotta love the trailer brakes, you got to the destination and then they start working whilst your Positioning it!
Happy New Year, Ron. Set up a glass for your dad tonight, and God bless.
Merry New Year and happy 2022 to everyone reading this. Looking forward to what u upload next, keep it coming in 2022 Ron!
Edit: best wishes from The Netherlands
Great job , guys. Have as wonderful year as possible under the circumstances. Look forward to all .
You are the ideal boss. You are a good leader and excellent mentor. I wish all of your family and staff a happy new year.
Great video! Happy New Year to you and everyone else there. Keep up the great videos.
its very obvious your father looked after that rig, its a sad day when the truck outlives the driver but hey, the man left a great legacy he could have sat back and been very proud of. God Bless You All gentlemen.
Ron, I worked at BakerCorp for 20 yrs. The frac tank (right of the unit being towed ) I installed the retro 3” fill tube many yrs ago. That tank was originally used at O’Hare Airport (Chicago) for de-icing fluid. Your video brought back many happy memories - too bad the last CEO destroyed the company. (I’m sure you know the old crowd and watched the changes)
Didn't United rental buy them out.
I applied for a job with them awhile back. They said I didn't have enough experience. I had 20yrs exp. At the time.
With faith and knowledge your gonna do fine. Dad taught you well. Hava a blessed Newyear to all your family and crew. Stay safe Brother.
The final video from Ron to us this year!
Ron, we all wish you and your friends and family a happy new year and a good start into 2022!
I bet that you will keep the V70 FOREVER in remembrance of your super Father. The best to you and your workers and family in 2022.
Gotta love "no fear Kenny". Keep moving forward Ron. It's the best way to honor a loved one. Your dad would be so proud.
274,000 on a 2006 rig... That thing's barely broke in LOL. Happy New Year to you and your family and the rest of your crew. God Bless y'all.
As of recently I discovered a few other towing companies on UA-cam, but there's something about your videos that I prefer the most. I always loved how you emphasize on the safety aspect of your job, not to mention the reasoning behind some of the things you do. These other guys will cut out footage such as the driving and the rigging parts. They explain what they are gonna do but they cut out them doing it haha.
I've always respected and loved our first responders but since I have been watching your videos for I think maybe a year now I have grown to love and respect our tow truck drivers out here as well. Keep up the fantastic work!
You will learn to respect it and learn to love it like your dad. Love and respect it on all aspects of the job as your Father did. Your job shows him the respect you still have for him. May God bless you and your family. From a Lutheran in Texas. Bless y'all
Always look forward to your videos on Friday mornings, Ron! Thanks for making these this past year for all of us to learn from and enjoy. Best wishes for a wonderful and prosperous 2022 and may God bless you, your family and your employees with safety and continued healing on the passing of your dad. Thanks for all you do, Ron!
Your comment should be hearted and pinned
Thanks for sharing this with us.
Back a few years ago I did repairs and welding on frack tanks. I'm probably not telling you anything you haven't already ready figured out but they only put service brakes on these tanks so they can be moved on the job site with a big front loader or an excavator when empty. Happy New year to you, your family and employees.
As always a great video. Something different and thought that trailer was going to win there for moment. Best wishes and prayers for the entire Midwest Truck Family during your time of grief. Just remember Dad is still overseeing the jobs, just from a better, more wonderful vantage point. Happy New Year to all.
Hey Ron thanks for another great video! Unfortunately I'm in the hospital with covid/pneumonia. Thanks for keeping me entertained, your videos have always brought me joy. Godbless
Get well soon, buddy - I’m just getting over a bad reaction from a booster shot
Praying for you
@@JoeHupp Yeah, that's one of the reasons I didnt get the vaxx, seems like mo matter what I'd get sick, I'll pray for your recovery
Omg sending prayers for you 🙏
Get well soon Sir.
Kenny leaping around like a teenager!
Watching another channel few weeks back they were pulling these also can't help but think of the jobs lost in the gas and oil industry stay safe Ron
Ron you and Kenny communicate with each other a lot and God Bless you and your family and friends and happy new year and be careful and safe and may the force be with you.
Your dad had good taste. That cab is NICE inside.
I like your comment about problem solving-that is much of the reason why I watch your videos. It is fascinating to see your process of figuring out how to do something safely and quickly. Between 8:30 and 9:00 I liked how you worked with Kenny about whether the 5th wheel was secure. You were sure it was, but you still listened to Kenny and checked it yourself. In aviation safety this is called crew resource management (CRM). The fancy name doesn't matter, but listening to and respecting a co-worker like you do is much more important for safety and efficiency than some people think. (It also makes a much nicer workplace!) It is always impressive watching you work and I suspect it is also a testament to your Dad. Happy New Year!
Ur dad is proud and impressed the job n truck r in the best of hands
May God bless you, your family and employees for a great and happy 2022.
Cheers, Bob in the UK.
I like hydraulic levers. The electro-solenoid Remote box has a lot of advantages, but that gentle movement on the winch cable is the job of a lever-spoolvalve. :o)
I watched this video 4 times in a row, so it seemed more like the hard day's work you fellas did! Lol. Great vid as always.
Happy New Year to you and your family & crew at Midwest Trucking! I started watching your videos this year & subscribed after the first couple of videos. I know very little about towing or recovery, so I didn't have any preconceived ideas of what I would be viewing. I have enjoyed your careful analysis of each situation, your concern for safety for your crew and for others (drivers, first responders, etc), your respect for all involved, and especially your unapologetic faith in God. I enjoy your humor and your obvious love for family & country. Praying for comfort & peace as you continue to grieve the loss of your father. God bless you & yours in 2022! 🇺🇲
A very happy new year to yourself, your family and to all who work for you. God bless 🙌
Breakfast and a Ron Pratt video. Fridays don't get much better than that. Stay safe and God bless.
Knowing your equipment is valuable.
Ron thank you for another awesome video. I have learnt so much about the towing industry. Also how hard all of you work. I have a lot of respect for all of the towing industry. Happy New Year, I hope you have a great year. May God bless everyone. 🇨🇦
Thanks 👍Happy New Year to you as well. Good luck in the business and stay safe. Thank you for watching and God bless.
happy new year ron, your dad will be watch you from above and again i am sorry for the loss of you dad.
Still praying for you and your family after the loss of your dad.
Thanks for another video . Kenny Seems to be an older version of Mike . Good work ethic and reliable
Happy New Year to all in Midwest Truck and the Pratt family! Stay safe guys!
Happy new year. Supposed to get some weather later on. Stay safe Ron!
Kenny forgot his hard hat. That's the first thing he should have grabbed before getting out of the truck. It is sitting on the floor of the truck.
A prosperous and happy New Year to you and your family, Mr. Pratt!!!!
Happy new year to you and your staff and family.May God’s love be with you always Amen
another great workplace video...like the way you stopped at the RR xing....gates up or down, always expect a train.
I bet you Kenny got the rest moved with no problem.Good worker that he is.
At 11:11 I was thinking to myself, "it bugs the heck out of me, to see people leave their glad hands open, because dirt daubers and other animals get up inside of them" then Ron saves my OCD by having his done right lol
Nice job. Happy New Year. Stay safe, healthy, and strong.
Moved a few of those. Used them as mud tanks for dewatering.
Thank you for sharing your videos in 2021.
May I wish you and your family a safe and healthy 2022.
Best wishes from the Black Country UK.
When you hook onto a frac tank you can be sure it's either got locked brakes or no brakes. I've never seen one with working brakes except when they're brand new. They typically do a lot of sitting.
Fascinating. Many thanks and Happy New Year.
Hi Mr. Pratt this Is Mike. Again I offer my condolences to you and your family 🙏🙏. I'm sorry for your loss of a loved one. I enjoy your y. I miss driving trucks. I can't wait to see more of your videos. God bless you and your family 🙏🙏. Keep it between the lines. Be careful and be safe out there on the roads. God bless you 10/4
Thank you so much for the kind words. Loss is always tough and we are doing our best to make it through. I appreciate the prayers and your kind comments. God bless and thank you for watching.
@@RonPratt You're very welcome Ron! I lost my Mom on the 27th of August 2017. I know it's hard losing a parent. I miss my Mom greatly 💔😭. But I know she's in Heaven in God's hands. I know you are going through. I'm going through it too. You and your family remain in my prayers 🙏🙏. I will continue to watch your videos and pray for you and your family 🙏🙏. God bless you and your family. Keep it between the lines 10/4
I hope everybody has a wonderful and Happy New Year's and may your year be prosperous
Same to you
He's not the only one that loves this truck. It looks like a good reliable money maker. It's my favourite too.
Thanks for all the videos in 2021. I really enjoy seeing your work and adventures. Hope you have a wonderful and prosperous 2022. Peace
Love your videos, I’m a roll back driver out here in western MD/eastern WV. It’s interesting seeing the different problems that other tow operators run into in different parts of the US.
I can understand why your Dad like his 2006 Western Star Vulcan V70. It really is a workhorse. And it has been working with you for a very long time. Sometime, old things work wonder. Anyway, Happy new year Ron.
Friday wouldn't be Friday without a video!!! Stay safe and God bless
#wherestalon
A job well done Ron 😊
I'm from the UK, what a strange trailer!, all of that length on one axle!
I actually work on these trailers for that company in northern Ohio they are only meant to be pulled while empty the single axle is rated for not much more than what the empty tanks weigh
Most of them aren’t set up with parking brakes they have a special brake valve that when the air tank is drained the brakes release and the use service chambers very interesting setup the first few times of having to work on the air systems on them.
Keep up the great videos can’t wait to see what’s in the coming year for you all
Happy new year too you and your family Ron👍👍🤟🤟
Great video as always! Always look forward to Fridays and seeing a new one. Especially right now. Been off work on "medical leave" for the past several weeks due to needing a major surgery on my trachea and esophagus. Stay safe, stay warm, and as always, watch your 6 !
Thank you Ron for sharing God bless y'all from Gaffney South Carolina viewer
sorry to hear about your dad i like your videos how you explain situation and then what you're doing and why to get the end result you want
Hi Ron, I hope you got through Christmas and new year intact despite the empty chair.
Loved the reference to Airplane with the "clearance Clarence" line lol. Happy New Year to you and your family and your crew. Here's to 2022 being a MUCH better for everyone and an abundance of blessings to all!
What's your vector, Victor?
roger, roger!
Thanks for all the videos you have brought us over the past year. I look forward to more in 2022. May you and your family stay safe in the New Year. Best wishes from Leicestershire in the UK.
Great video...thanks for sharing. One thought I had on the drop off would have been to boom out the under reach once in position...chock the trailer...then lift and try to get the under reach out. Not sure if that is possible or not...but you got the job done either way. Thanks again!
Hello Ron, I’m a new addict to your videos (and I think that I’ve caught up!). Anyway, thoroughly enjoying how you work and interact with your crew & others. Condolences for losing your dad, you honour him by carrying on his life’s work. 🇨🇦
Great video. It probably took all day to move trailers as much work to get them hooked up and moved.
I wish you and your family a very HAPPY New Year from the U.K.
Your dad has not gone, he is in every video you make.
Fracking Trailer .. that's a daily shout in my yard .. lol .. happy new year all
have a great and healthy 2022 everyone
Thanks for the informative and entertaining videos over the last year, especialy in these difficult times and particularly after the passing of your dad. I wish you, your family and the Mid-West team a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year from Tyneside UK. God Bless.
Great job! Surprised those don’t have working brakes.
Happy new year 🎉 to you and your family and your midwest truck team
Awesome , Thanks Ron & Kenny
And another professional job well done!
Enjoyed your video Ron, hope you have a "Happy New Year"
Happy, healthy and prosperous new year, Ron, and to all your family and workers.
Those trailer tanks seem to be design AND maintenance impaired, with many hours of tender loving neglect behind them.
I once had a curtain side trailer with load sensing valve failure, so seemed ok on the unladen outrun, but when loaded to the legal limit with Coca Cola for the return, it was a whole 'nuther ball game!
I tagged it INOP on so many levels it wasn't legally drivable without most of the braking system being replaced and a new test certificate obtained. 60,000 lbs trying to push me forward or around every time I even went downhill, never mind braked, was as close as I ever came to walking away and telling the customer to come fetch their **** truck.
I honestly believe that the four palettes I made them remove to keep me weight-legal saved lives, not just my own, that day.
Hey Ron & Kenny !! Those are pre 1975 trailers & Don't have Spring brakes on them SO you have to go back to the ""OL"" School days of hooking them up which means you have to air the trailer B/4 you even try to hook to the 5th wheel !! When they are aired up the brakes will lockup when the emergency line is disengaged & should hold air for at least 12 mins. as the "OL"" Law states !! Back in the day ,,there were a lot of roll offs as the air leaked off & away the rigs went just like the rig at the rest area you had to go get as the Driver got out of it & DIDN"T set the brakes on either unit !! Remember that ?? Have a good ""NEW YEARS " & Thanks for the memories of "OLD"" !!
I hope the next 4 of those trailers won't be as difficult as that one was. Always great videos Ron. Glad Kenny was there to help and not you doing it alone. Hope your family will have a great New Year.
Don't forget lights at the back Ron😊
Thank you for watching and God bless.
Sure wish he wore at least a bump cap. But, lovex seeing the Western Star at work. Good video.
