I’m never not impressed with your breadth and depth of knowledge Neil.
I think you're right - something about QI just works all the time. The hardest patch is the pandemic zone with no audience, but even then it's usually ok.
There's one episode at the start of the pandemic where Alan Davis says: "why are you making jokes when there's no audience here?". But that's the thing, they can't help themselves, and that's why it works.
myeah, i had a hard time for a while when they switched to Sandy. When she started they were in the habit of making jokes/comments about men that weren't even close to funny. Just as an example the one where that woman was going to open a coconut and tries to be funny by saying some man will probably want to mansplain it to her first and there were a lot more "jokes" that didnt get a laugh that were along the same line.
But as Stephen already said in one of the previous episodes; more men in a panel will make the audience laugh more, more woman means the panel itself will laugh more.
@@StMargorach Can you give a source for Stephen saying that? I can't find anything online
Looking at Bill Bailey and says "That guy's a total book head"
Well...
His first non-standup or panel show series was Black Books, a sitcom about a small second-hand bookshop, starring Bill, Dylan Moran and Tamsin Greig, with guest appearances from among others Martin Freeman (way before he was a global name), Kevin Eldon (Coffin from Don't Hug Me I'm scared and several smaller roles in Game of Thrones), Nick Frost (yes, THAT Nick Frost) and Peter Serafinowicz (the voice of Darth Maul and the titular hero in the live-action The Tick).
From that episode Alan is the only one that hasn't been in Doctor who at some point. David is the 10th doctor, Bill was in a Christmas special with the 11th doctor, Lee and Stephen have both been in episodes with the 13th doctor. But then Alen is the amazing puzzle/ problems solver Jonathan Creek so there's that.
I believe I heard somewhere that Alan was in the running to play Nine, along with Ecclestone and Bill Nighy. May be just a rumour
Love Jonathan Creek ❤
Great reaction as always plus props for getting Edward Muybridge. The way the groaning leitmotif spread to Lee Mack and David Tennant was priceless, as was Stephen's groan when it manifested itself in yet another answer.
I'm not sure if it's been mentioned but this is David Tennants' only appearance on Qi unfortunately. This was part of David's swansong tour before leaving Doctor Who at the end of 2009 and he pretty much took over the BBC, including appearing in special idents before every show on BBC One for the whole festive season. He hosted a Never Mind The Buzzcocks Christmas/Doctor Who special (ft. Catherine Tate and Bernard Cribbins) if you ever fancied checking out another episode of that show.
And he's now been confirmed as the 14th Doctor, a sort of in-between, going back to doing only special episodes until they have finished filming the first season for the 15th Doctor.
For the first time ever, they've announced two separate Doctors at once and given us a roadmap of when we can expect each special for over a year to come.
Giraaaafe 😆 🤣 Neil, you really made me chuckle then 🇬🇧
Oh, I'd forgotten about the 'elderly brothers in the attic' bit. What a hilarious bit that was. I realised as this reaction started (and as I note someone else has remarked, having looked at the comments) that all bar Alan have been on Doctor Who now, which actually feels a little in keeping with the QI style of Alan being the 'other'!
What a great line up , All brilliant talented and funny in their own way . Congratulations on pronouncing giraffe . The Osmonds were a family who inexplicably dominated the charts here for a few years in the mid 70's and were Mormons . It's always nice to watch these reactions and enjoy some fascinating facts and laughs with QI
I think the photocopier bit was just a reference to things that can happen in an office christmas parties.
There's not a bad episode of QI
10 points for Neil for Mybridge.
I'd recommend series G episode 7. It has Sandy as a gust and Jack Dee. Has the most memorable joke, for me at least, that had me in stitches.
This episode just happens to be repeated on the UK TV channel Dave on the same day this video was released so I'm rewatching it simultaneously
Yes! I'm so happy you're watching the David Tennant ep. Have you watched the Buzzcocks Doctor Who special? It's hilarious
Giraaafe🤣🤣 brilliant Neil!
you made me chuckle when you said giraffe like that haha. so cute.
Showing my age as someone who was obsessed with the Osmonds as a child, Crazy Horses was actually about pollution! Horses came from horsepower and gas guzzling cars.
Also, the two older brothers not in the group, were hearing impaired, so more than likely had a speech impediment too (I doubt as gruff!).
Lastly, there were up to 9 Osmond boys (8), and 1 girl, Marie. So that joke tied in too!!
back in the 60s i worked in a model toy shop that was once a bicycle shop and i pushed a penny farthing cycle through the streets of Oxford U.K. to a large shop for their display window i got qiute a few remarks and looks .
It is always funny watching North Americans (or anyone else really) discovering British Pantomime tradition for the first time...
I think it was the Milgram experiment, not the Stanford Prison Experiment
Series E - Electricity is well worth a watch Neil
I'd love to see you react to Series Q, Episode 7? with Susan Calman, Holly Walsh and Joe Lycett, got a great audience interaction bit
I loved David but adore Matt as the doctor. I mean, the stories Matt had were so over the top and how powerfull/infamous he had become and it starts right with his first episode when he sends the big eyeball aliens running for the hills. Just loved it
Alan is the only one of these five not to appear on Doctor Who (and you could get good bookie odds on him landing the title role, at some points).
I heard a rumour a few years ago that because of a filming clash David Mitchell and Robert Webb stepped in for the robots that were supposed to be Stephen and Alan.
@@stukay2803 Oh, interesting! Alan does seem like a sort of fit for a guest spot on DW.
As a younger version of Tom Baker's Dr?
If you want some audience interaction series Q episode 7 has a fantastic audience moment
Having a go at Stephen is just classic schoolboys behaving badly towards the teacher.
Robin Williams did a routine on lsd on a baseball game.
Series K ep7 'Knowledge' perhaps? It's a beauty
another one with clarkson is series M military matters
Apart from Alan they have all been in Doctor who lol
4:36 And now there's only Alan Davies who hasn't appeared in Doctor Who...
I love watching the QI earlier episodes. Unfortunately, they're unavailable here anymore, or so I've been told. I'm curious as to how you got one to watch, unless you're not in the US.
I have no problem finding them on UA-cam here in Canada.
30 episodes down, only 249 episodes more to go (as of the end of series S and not include the unbroadcast pilot, three special episodes, the 26 compilation episodes since Series G or the episode containing outtakes from Series E)
Interestingly only 1 person on this episode hasn't been on Doctor Who.
You've seen the Madera prinz nez episode, haven't you?
....because if you haven't, you must!
Jackass: The Novel... I want that now, thanks Bill... lol
Lucy wolsey The History quiz
Oh please tell me this is the episode with the deranged Osmond brother who lives in the attic and writes the songs 😂🤣😂
No cop will make any problems here in the Nehterlands for smoking weed in public while walking around.
But the no tobacco smoking in coffeeshops still is a weird law XD
Well you can buy the weed, not use it. Just like you can't smoke in the supermarket after buying cigarettes.
It's not that weird.
Still hate it though since I have many memories smoking up in a shop.
The show's elves missed a klaxon moment. Auld Lang Syne should not contain the words "the sake of". The chorus simply ends again with "for auld lang syne", not "for the sake of auld lang syne". I'm Scottish, and David Tennant needs to have a word with himself.
Is there a weak or bad episode of QI? Hell, no! Every one I've ever seen has been thoroughly enjoyable, regardless of who the panelists are, and regardless whether it's hosted by Stephen or Sandy! It's always magic. Hmmm ... perhaps is the magic of the elves?
Sadly they've now all been on Doctor Who... except Alan...
I know you have a long list of these, but put series L, series 11 on your list.
Do you have the classic pantomime cliché in Canada?
Oh no you don’t.
That’s not 10’s sonic, mate.
