‘That dog’s never gonna get shagged wearing that!’ is one of the most completely-accidental-yet-hilarious double entendres of any episode.

When I was young I used to see Giles on several TV shows and found him to be a rather strange chap. Now that I am older, I absolutely love him. I'm fascinated by his stories. The only downside to hearing his stories (it's the same with Brian Blessed) is that it makes you realise how unexciting your own life is in comparison!

Hiya. There are chippies that use actual vinegar. Thus, a friend of mine would always ask the staff member concerned, "is it vinegar or non-brewed condiment?" because she only liked NBC. Stay safe. All the best to you.

The Carry On film for the French Revolution was "Carry On Don't Loose Your Head"... It introduced the nobleman who played "The Black Fingernail", and like all Carry On films with the original cast in it was camp and ridiculous which is why they're so funny...
There's over 30 Carry On films so that's a long time sat watch them relying on an incontinence pad?

As someone who has been a teenager in New Zealand, I related hard to Jessica Fostekew's story about snorting vodka. In my youth, the fashion was for "Tequila Suiciders" which were ordinary shots of tequila served with a pinch of salt and a lemon wedge. The tequila was imbibed normally, the salt was snorted through a straw, and the lemon was squeezed into your eye. Alcohol + kids = stupidity.

While you're right about the Elves delving into Brandreth material for the episodes, under just about any circumstances Gyles will talk AT LENGTH, to the point that he's famous for making television recordings go on for punishingly long times. He's more jovial about it now and has really learned to bring things back to a punchline, but even still, with tons of editing, you can still see signs of other panelists getting annoyed with him going on so much. The last time Brandreth was on HAVE I GOT NEWS FOR YOU, Paul Merton made no attempt whatsoever to conceal his irritation because Gyles was making the record take so bloody long.

    • @Baiko

Letchworth Garden City, first in the world. Not Letchworth new town.
Stevenage, a town nextdoor to Letchworth is a 'New town'.

What they say about China and planting trees is absolutely untrue. I did my PHD in environmental science in China, and while it is true that they planted monocultures, it's absolutely not because they're doing it for agricultural purposes... The purpose is to combat desertification, and you can't just go from barren desert to a vibrant and diverse ecosystem instantly. What they do is first lock down the desert with grids of dried grass, then they plant drought resistant grasses and shrubs to lock down the soil. Then once the soil can support it, they plant monocultures of drought resistant trees to further lock down and enrich the soil. Obviously, lots of them die but the plan isn't to have a monoculture anyway. Only when the soil can support it do they start planting more diverse species. This is a proven method of combating desertification, and these methods are being used in places in Africa and Israel. It is true that in some areas of China, this method was so successful that the monocultures did extremely well so they decided to just leave it like that and not further diversify to save money, but a monoculture forest will self-diversify over time and it's better than a barren desert anyway.

It's not unusual for an aristocrat to know his family lineage, in fact it's expected, especially when they have a long lineage and provable heritage of events and prior major events... It's the aristocratic way. It's also why they're so protective of their bloodline and future lineage...
