Sir Viper, you played correctly the first attempt, in fact, it was so well played that actually Joan of Arc fell to the ground victim of an archer arrow (from the Castle). Don't feel bad because the game itself failed at your accurate representation of history.

yeah, it was very close to historically accurate. With one exception. In real life, the arrow that hit Joan didn't kill her 11
I love that in the end debriefing cutscene, it very nearly described your first attempt where the battle was also won but she was taken out by an arrow.

Well he didn't really lissen as he plays so fast he didn't hear he should have avoided the burgun(pinkish) scouts in the start. he just went right in.

This mission often gets memed as being the hardest mission in the game due to how if you're doing the missions in the order that the game presents them, this is the first actual challenge of the game, since prior to this you have the tutorial campaign, and then a simple get character from point a to point b mission. Now suddenly you're surrounded on both sides by two teams with castles and having to manage an economy and protect a certain building while at the same time mustering an army to destroy one of the castles and risk being attacked from behind.
My first attempt was halarious on this one,first i never sent the supplies so i had to get the one tree in the base then build a lumber camp and farm with one worker until i stabilized,took me 2h to do lol
i really like that you upload a second attempt even though the first one is good enough as a "walktrough"

in fact it is a french castle, stolen by english (^_-)
in fact i have a doubt: it's the case for the south only perhaps.
Orléans was surrounded by castles to siege (starve people of the city) easily with less troops.
I've just verified: only the Tourelles, in continuation of the bridge in fact, was french out of the city occupied by the english who won a first battle before the captain died by a canon ball, the others were built by the english for the siege and were 9 in fact (the real historical map: www.stejeannedarc.net/histoire_wallon/carte_siege_orleans.html )!

How would you guys recommend I present second attempts? I know some will get spoiled now by the fact that it says 2nd attempt, if they didn't see the other one yet, especially as it's posted the day after. What would be the best way to title it etc? Give me some suggestions please!
Its good just like it is! I dont think people will take spoilers in your campaing matchs
How about you just say 2.2 reupload or fixed.
Or you post the second attempt for 2.2. (in this example) after 2.3. so that people have had some time to watch the first attempt. Or people should just watch your video's in time :D
Maybe just remove the scenario's number and name from the title to prevent spoiling the fact you played a scenario more than once and name the video like this: "Age of Empires II: Age of Kings Campaign - - Part ". So this video would be named "Age of Empires II: Age of Kings Campaign - Joan of Arc - Part 3" (this is the third video on the Joan of Arc campaign). Include the scenario number and name in the video's description. Would this work? (or you can just, you know, git gud and complete everything on your first attempt Kappa)
That's also a good suggestion.
Or you could just do the 2nd attempt in the same video. Upload them together, we'll just wait for the video anyways.
The only problem is if you quickly want to check the playthrough of a specific scenario in a campaign and you have to take a guess and go through the different parts to find the correct video.
Tip: You can write "How do you turn this on" on chat to get a cobra car to help you!

Once, I played this scenario and built a lot of castles to restrict the movements of the British, built up my economy and resources, then killed all my villagers and almost all of my military, aside from Joan and that Duke guy, and made a LOT of petards and destroyed all four castles of the British at once. :D

You're right about the AI struggling with tower/wll/castle. One way to use this weakness is to block usual pathways. For example, in this mission, you could have walled the southern bridge, keeping orange out of the play.

Viper, if you ever get into a situation in which Joan is threatened to be killed by castle or arrow fire with ballistics, you can still avoid the shots if you move her in the opposite direction as soon as the arrows leave the castle. It's almost impossible to pull off in multiplayer and kinda difficult if there are multiple sources firing out of sync, but it could get her out of a tough situation, and it's better than just freaking out and fruitlessly trying to run her away, in my opinion. I like to do this in the campaigns a lot because a lot of the scenarios are ripe for cheesing, although my style tends to take longer. xD
at the height of the battle, joan was hit by a castle, we could not believe our misfortune.

Last video I commented that my tactic as a kid was to mass petards... I didn't expect you to do it. I always felt it was kind of cheap cos the campaign was from age of kings and petards only came in the conquerors expansion. But up to you.
Petards are always a good chose to break walls or damage buildings, so you were clever in your younger days ;)
Also, Strat for next map. Don't leave the starting island. That's what I used to do in my younger days. Only gold my trading with enemy dock and stuff haha.

Been watching some classic game speed runs, and inspired by the Viper's campaign play, you guys should do an AOE/AOC campaign speed run tournament as well !!!!

Hey Viper! Great vid as always,you have my full support as well but especially here on YT,its great having this many vids here as it is quite rare I can tune in to your streams unfortunately. My suggestion to this first try and whatever things is to just save the game every now and then,and we could still have a long episode without you maybe failing and retrying again and again,as I'm sure you have limited time as well. So somehow with just saving the game you could spare yourself some time and we could still enjoy the campaign in my opinion.

My plan is to do a second attempt from the beginning if I fail the first attempt, but should I fail a second time, I will probably save and start it from a later point where the struggles begin, and take it from there.

I just noticed the Afsluitdijk (built in like the 1930s) is visible on the campaign map.. :p
The best thing to do this is a MaA-Pike-Ram spam, but I guess it's too advanced of a strategy.

Never go full petard
This time was much easier because you didn't strike through the gate. That way, you were being attacked by units from both castles/bases, and drew units from the castle on the right to come attack you as well. You also took a bit more time to attack last time, so they amassed more units.

The reason why it was easier this time is because you finally decided not to attack the gate and fight underneath 5+ towers xD Also, maybe more units were coming from the northeast base since you were close to it the first time as well. Oh yeah, you destroyed a tower too.
I use adblock but i share your videos with friends and laugh at all the mistakes you do. Last video made us all really happy. Am i helping?

So viper. I've seen you these days and know that you are the best #1 aoe2 player in the world, so I gotta ask, when did you start playing aoe2? I've seen a lot of the comments and you yourself said you were "new at this" so did you only start your rise to top player 3 years ago? For one, I didn't know that, for 2, to already be the best after a few years of playing, you rock! You really are the best I've seen you play and you are on another level to everyone else. I see the skill gap and its ridiculous! You make pros look like normal level.

It was harder last time just because you took a lot longer what with the early attack and not focusing on building up eco/gold mine problems
A lot of that was really bad campaign memory methinks; he would have won if he pulled Joan away when he noticed she was getting attacked.

So, what happens when you get to the first ethiopians mission and it takes 10+ tries to complete? Will you upload all 10 tries in separate videos, will you combine all of them together, will you make it only one video and just show clips from each try, or will you only upload the one where you win?
I'm not sure, I'll probably record a bit ahead once I get deeper in, so I should be able to come up with a solution if it takes a lot of tries then.

In my opinion South British are easier to deal with because they make knights and rams instead of archers, mangonels and infantry.

I know that there are very easy ways to beat mission , but the tips i commented were more like help for the map that one should use but the game doesn't tell you , im sorry viper i'll just watch and be quiet :)
No it's fine, normal regular tips, what I meant were the cheese strats that will lead to easy wins and just abuse of the AI in some ways.

Just a heads up for the rest of the campaigns, your starting units are NOT affected by the upgrades, at least that's what I remember from playing them. Don't know if it was changed for HD
I think only Gaia units you obtain during the game aren't affected. The starting units of your own civ should get updates.
Yeah, your starting units do get upgrades. It's the ones you get from other civs, like Gaia or by conversion, that do not get upgrades. I expected Viper to know this TBH; if you convert enemy units they do not get upgrades if you research them. Maybe he rarely ever does that in the competitive scene.
It's further complicated by the fact that you sometimes get units which you cannot build or upgrade that far. But generally speaking the above is true.
I know about this from when I played some scenarios some years back, so I knew about it, but I like to double check :D
