I’m a veteran crocheter and this is the best bucket hat instructions I’ve found! I made my hat with cotton yarn and used the J hook as suggested and it turned out perfect. Thank you!
I’m 71 and have had a crochet hook in my hand since I was eight years old. This is a great hat. I’m thinking every one I know will be enjoying one of these ❤️ 0:42
I’ve been crocheting for about 5 months now. This is my first hat and this is the first video that was easy to follow and you actually went through everything thoroughly.
Well, I may of gained or lost a stitch in the process, but I finished this hat. It taught me a lot, because I never really know where to put the slip stitch, sometimes it’s right and sometimes it’s wrong. I also get lost with counting the increase stitches. Anyhow, I only started for the first time in my life to crochet six weeks ago, I will definitely be trying this again and I’ll wear the hat I just made. Thanks so much for a great tutorial, I had to replay quite a few times when starting the next round, my dream was to make a bucket hat. Next hat will be even better.. ❤
just made this in a few hours and it came out so cute! had to increase the amount of rows on the crown as I used very fine wool but it still worked perfectly. I have sent this pattern to some friends to follow too as it was so cute!! going to check out your other vids for sure 🦝
I started following your tutorial for this hat and I’m nearly finished with it and I started today! Usually takes me weeks to finish a project but this hat is so easy! Thanks for sharing 🙌
I have made a few bucket hats but this by far is the very best pattern. I have even purchased the pattern off of the Etsy store. Thank you so much Melody for a fabulous pattern that is both easy and beautiful ♥️♥️♥️
Thank you Melody this is the easiest bucket hat I have seen so far on UA-cam and I’ve looked up a few thank you so much. I have tried to make a few bucket hats but this one definitely was the easiest pull this together in three hours on my vacation Camping
Im kinda with you. Someone asked me to make this style of hat in a different yarn and Im on attempt #4. The yarn struggle is real but its worth it, friend.
I purchased the pattern, the cancer center I make them for just love them! They are asking if I could make them for kids, do you have a pattern or how to make the adult one smaller for kids? Thank you so much!!
I keep messing up with row 3. I should do 1 hdc then 2 hbc for 27 stitches but I end up with 34 stitches...I’ve redone it like 10 times and cant figure out what I’m doing wrong. My row 2 is 18 stitches so I just don’t get it 🤦🏻♀️
You might be working in the second loop of the half double crochet or something. Its ok! Just do a few more stitches with just one hdc where you might expect to do 2 hdc. As long as your row counts are good the rhythm will come with time and it will be great. :) Let me know how it goes, ok?
@@lia.1756 Ouch. I like my pattern, friend. So, you had 9 to start, right? Then for row 2 you doubled it by making two hdc in each of those 9 stitches 9 x 2 is 18. timestamp for this is 2:40 . Then row three starts at 3:40 . For row 3 you alternated one hdc/2 hdc so that you increase 9 stitches total in this row for 27. You continue this way (increasing 9 stitches per row) for the first 7 rows so that you form a flat circle. 36, 45, 54, 63...
@@lia.1756 since were putting 1 hdc and then 2 hdc, that would be 1 hdc in 9 stitches and 2 hdc in 9 stitches (in total that makes up for all 18 stitches). 1 x 9 = 9; 2 x 9 = 18. 18 + 9 = 27. hope this helped!
super good tutorial! I got a bit confused throughout when you said increase all the way around and started doing 2 in each stitch aha! but caught my mistake about 5 rows in :) This is my first hat and I realize i look bad in hats. Thank you
Wow so far I'm think I'm doing good I saw lots of vids on how to make this hat , they all use half double crochet and they never showed me how to do it but luckily I stumbled opon ur video , Thanks 💕
Same....and I've been crocheting for 50+ years. I always end up just doing a chain circle then pulling the tail ....it closes up, maybe not as perfect as a magic circle, but good enough for government work, as they say.
Is it possible to use cotton yarn to make bucket hats especially for the spring and summer? If yes should the yarn be doubled? It is 4 weight cotton that I purchased from hobby Lobby
Lilys sugar and cream…the larger rough type will replace the acrylic in this hat well all by itself. But, the thinner cottons (like I Love This Cotton and the multicolor Lilys sugar and cream is thinner and drapier and would probably need a smaller hook and more repeats. I’ll do a video with one of those tomorrow!
A j hook is 6 mm but i notice this yarn calls for 5.5 mm. I'm wondering if there's a reason for the larger hook? My yarn calls for 5mm so I'm thinking 5.5. Thoughts?
I don't understand what you mean on rows 19-21. Do I do the whole row with 5 stitches with an increase or do I just do the first 5 stitches and the increase on the 6th at the beginning, with hdc for the rest of the row?
I made the hat with no isseus but I think my yarn was thinner than yours meaning it turned out smaller and doesn't fit my head 😭 It's more like a childs size but luckily I have a some extended family with children so i'll probably end up gifting it to one of them instead.
Might have just lost some count on your circle or if you are newer you may have variation in your tension. Did you end up with a circle that has the write number of stitches at the end?
I would say yes. Two points will make a difference. Use a thinner worsted weight yarn. Maybe Hobby Lobby I Love This Cotton or Caron Simply Soft. Just nothing that looks too thick. And also, go down one hook size. I hope you will tag me online if you post a pic! @melodycrochet
How did the second try go? If the original circle at the beginning is ruffling then you might have continued on with your increases for more than one row. Perhaps a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of the row? Best luck!!!
Depends on the yarn. What kind are you using? I use size 4, aran weight and these are big on my 22" head. Some size yarn will be smaller, though. Caron Simply Soft and ones like that.
Ur too fast n not showing where to put the next stitches up close..we r trying to learn from you ..point to where to put the hook before u enter the stitch ❤
Constructive criticism. Nice yarn, but the instruction could be better by giving your audience the right stitch. You've called this DC many times when it is actually HDC.
Sorry, I am not filing thru all your old videos to find the beginner tips....in the time you took to explain where to find the magic loop instructions you could have made a much more helpful video by just explaining it period. For those that know how and don't want to listen they can skip ahead in the video. Went to another video for a better more comprehensive tutorial🤷🏼♀️
