Rance did a great job with his kids- I remember being in an airport waiting lounge many years ago, and Ron Howard was there with his wife and 2 small kids- they flew coach along with the rest of us, and that was after he had made some big successful movies.
I admire the talent that Mr Howard presented to his children.......his direction and interputation of the roles that they played made the Andy Griffith Show believable , and worthy of watching again and again.....and this is one of a very few that achieves that greatness.
Back around 1989 I saw Clint Howard eating in the Sizzler restaurant at Providencia and San Fernando in Burbank (no longer there) and he was joined by an older man whom I later learned was his father Rance.
My dad had a similar trick, when we were being whiny kids in the grocery store. He would have his list and cross things of with a pen and we'd get into it, either with each other or grousing about something else and he would take his pen and give a firm tap on the top of the head. It didn't "hurt"; but, it stung just enough to get your attention and be unpleasant enough that you didn't want a repeat and we behaved. he was a teacher and knew how to maintain discipline without having to go to far to achieve it. Same kind of wisdom, too. Just a wise, practical man, who taught us to be curious about our world. Rance always reminds me of him. My dad grew up on a farm, during the Depression and WW2; similar demeanor. same hairline, too! 8)
Edit to add: Clint is the one to party with! He was a rebel to Hollywood got caught up in weed and coke in high school and had dare-devil attitudes. He knew early-one that he was destined for a character actor role. Both guys seem very grounded and relatable in the book, but Clint's struggles seem more viscerally real.
just came here from the comment section of the late show during Ron's interview. I had no idea this is Ron's dad, I've seen him in so many movies, awesome
My dad (a VERY large guy) COMANDED respect as well :^0 We learned early on how to behave and what NOT to do in order to NOT get "struck". He also taught us about NOT living beyond your means and the wisdom of SAVING your money for "a time" in retirement when you REALLY need it. Hard concept for young people, but Dad was born during the depression and was unrelenting in his "message" of frugality.
All the years I've watched TV I just learned yesterday these men were family. Laughing at Clint through his performances. Ron too.. The father I've seen but never made a connection. It's clips like this one is why youtube needs to remain neutral from ad and everything. A simple place. I swear, the damn corporation think we want to buy everything with our barely able to live in society pockets. lol
@@ordinarypete But you watched it? You took the time to respond to a comment? Stop hiding: you spoke something that brought the clip to your feed...like "Grand Theft Auto."
I worked on a film - I show up to set and I see the most beautiful woman, with porcelain skin and gorgeous hair and the most beautiful face -- and I say to myself "wow, who is that?" -- she was BRYCE HOWARD - a number of years later I saw her give a brilliant performance in THE HELP. She is a great talent!
What I would like to know is? How much money was made on selling some of the car chase and crash scenes that appeared in other B/C movies that first was shown in GTA.???
I've seen Clint Howard in a ton of movies in bit parts. It's amazing how many movies this guy has actually been in, considering how bad of an actor he is. It probably has nothing to do with his brother being Ron Howard. I'm guessing he gets the parts with his stunning good looks.
Hes no Gary Oldman but hes not a "bad actor". Hammy, sure, but entertaining. Hes great in Evil Speak. But yeah hes hired for his face... he wasnt hired to be a Star Trek alien for his acting prowess.
Who are these people ? How is it these kids get free domain over Hollywood studios and multi million dollar budgets?? Seth Rogan has been writing scripts since he was in high school. It's their family bloodline or something.
@@DeiHarper9361 Yes I know. Still makes no sense. These people are just born with silver spoons up their asses. It's not just these 2. I mentioned Seth Rogan.
Ron's dad was in the military when he was born. When they moved to LA in the 40's it wasn't like it is now. It was more a suburb on the edge of the desert. The family lived down the road from Deslilu studios which was the studio owned by Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. When Ron was old enough they saw Desilu was offering acting lessons and decided to enroll him. He'd been in that class awhile when the Andy Griffith show came looking for a young boy to cast in the show. That's how he got his start. Not because of a silver spoon but because of two hard working parents who thought their kid had talent and might be good at the acting thing. Even despite his success in Andy Griffith Ron chose to forgo using his contacts to get work and instead chose to work behind the scenes hence his job as an intern and later writer for Roger Corman. All that aside it's rude to judge people without knowing them.
Rance Howard. Best Hollywood dad ever!
It’s easy when you’re a mason and have the backing of hollyweird.
He sure was ❤😢🎉

They were a awesome family that inspired me as a teenager growing up in California being a actress.
Truly a genuine Family who loved and respected one another.
I admire the talent that Mr Howard presented to his children.......his direction and interputation of the roles that they played made the Andy Griffith Show believable , and worthy of watching again and again.....and this is one of a very few that achieves that greatness.
All 3 of them are wonderful human beings!
Best interview I’ve seen with Rance. Totally changed my view of him. What a great guy.
Love the Howard’s! Truly all genuine people
Loved watching gentle Ben as a kid...great memories.
Read the new book by Ron and Clint. The Boys.
Me too. Such a great dad. Kids turned out well...mostly. Clint had some issues but pulled it together.
The audiobook is especially good. Read by Ron and Clint.
I just finished the book. What a great, humble and hardworking family. Ron and Clint had perfect parents as I think of my own.
If this isn't the sweetest thing, I don't know what is.
Clint Howard and a Pacer. A match.
How nice to see Rance. Great family.
RIP Rance you were a great pop...

His did a great job with teaching them and you can tell what an affect it had on Ron with his kids
I’ve loved the Howard’s since The Andy Griffith Show.
Ron Howard, making Hollywood deals, barely out of highschool.
The dad I always wanted and never had.😔

That was the sweetest thing I've seen in a long time.
I'm reading The Boys now, and seeing this with Rance saying they were "on budget "and "on time" with a newbie at the helm is just amazing!!!

I finished the book today. I really enjoyed it. Great family. Great parents. Cheers.@@songmarysmith

Clint looks good with the short hair.
I'm taking "Mr. Fun Bubbles" for my insults list!
i love Clint Howard! and his new car was a Pacer ...... perfect! ( :
Still enjoying the visual of Clint Howard driving a Pacer

Rance & his wife were nothing but Class Acts and their children followed right along.

If you like this read "The Boys" by Ron and Clint
2:56 Crazy .. I still have that police car. Years of kid play and years of boxed up memories. But I have it.
I didn’t know rance and Ron wrote it
What a Family!
Loved Rance as the uptight detective at the end of The Burbs
Fantastic chat 😂❤

Ain't that something all these big corporations seem to have their hands in our back pockets.
These actors and others is what made us love Hollywood..😎
Speak for yourself. Not all of us love Hollywood. This was pushed into our feed.

Clint was the alien on the planet alone on star trek. Clint mouth and teeth looked so familiar...

Mr. Howard was CLEARLY a spectacular father - just a look at how his two boys turned out!
Wow I've never saw opie's dad before!! He looks like a cool guy.

Clint reminds me of leon from the andy Griffith show
he was leon
