This is literally the most important video on this channel if you're a Redshift & AE user. Such necessary information for post-production workflow. Things that I've been struggling to find out for years, brilliantly explained in such a short amount of time. Really, thank you so much for creating this webinar, thank you Maxon & Lionel !!!
i agree, this is an obligatory video for every RS+AE artist! I've been working in RS for more than 2 years and i thought i know a lot, but that workflow just blew my mind and opened new possibilities!
Thank you!
@@WitOlszewski We really appreciate this - thank you :-)
This answer sums up what I feel, just having watched this video. I am sure this will boost a lot of peoples careers and skills enormously. Thank you a million times for this effort. It is really simple to understand and so astonishing, to see how capable this software is.
Im just starting out with maxonone and feel lucky i found this video right at the beginning of my journey
Super helpful tutorial - Thank you very much! I`ve seen some comments here with the issue, that the export from AE is too bright. I had the same problem and come to following solution: 1. View -> Use Display Color Management (Which is off by default). Now you see what you get in your AE View. 2. If you want to use a LUT File you have to do it similar like using Magic Bullet Looks. a) color profile (Working Space to sRGB (or Rec.709) b) Lut File c) color profile sRGB (or Rec709) to Working Space. I can`t give any guarantee for correctness but I hope it helps you guys
This is the best workflow tutorial I've seen all year. Thank you!
I come back to this tutorial quite often, its like the template for RS AOV passes in AE
That's great to hear!
You all are so awesome. Much appreciated.
What about the Shadow Pass?
Please can you provide that link again?, it shows files have been deleted
Funny how this is one the most over-looked workflows. Great to see this!
Thanks Jason!
wow I loved watching this, I love Cinema but can't find tutorials like this that directly show the workflow with AE, thank you so much!
I love watching others workflows. I never knew you could have AE create all those comps from the EXR layers automatically…that is literally a game changer for me!
This was fantastic. Perfect balance of technical and demonstrative. thank you, thank you, thank you. C'est merveilleux.
Thanks for the great explain on z-depth at 26‘!
Thanks so much for going over all of this in such great detail. So many great knowledge nuggets! :)
Our pleasure!
Very informative thank you. For the halo you experienced with FL dof, try to invert the depth pass.
Afaik FL dof expects white to be close to camera and black to be far, and this fixed any haloing I had.
that DOF tip changed my life
I am noticing that when I go to export my Ae Comp the image is much brighter than what I saw in After Effects. It would be nice to see the workflow all the way to final render as I suspect there is something more to it than where we left it here.
I would look into "use color display management". All of this gets very confusing especially when you have to render and send if off to Flame. I think "Use Display Color Management" is supposed to be off from your initial build that way there isn't any surprises on final render. But I am not 100% sure.
This series was fantastic!!! Anyone learning redshift must absolutely watch this. Every time I watch a set of these I feel like I level up my c4d skills - thank you so much!
What is the beginning video for the series? I am just now getting into using Redshift and have zero knowledge of how to use it.
Her's a great set of tutorials for getting into Redshift (with project files): ua-cam.com/play/PLHFxR_Fs0Tynx_-0Yt_EG0zMNUeLPJ3z2.html
This was simply awsome, just what I needed, im switching fra 3dmax/vray to cinema 4d/redshift and this really made my day... and days to come :)
Still such a highly relevant lesson. Thank you!
Thank you so much Lionel Vicidomini and Maxon! I learned so much today!
Like someone said.. Game changer.. Not sure if I want to play that game though!!! Heavy stuff!!
Best compositing course so far! Thank you.
This has so much great info to build a flexible work flow. Thank you!
Thanks Roe! Let us know what you'd like to see in a follow-up session.
Greatly explained tutorial!. It would be great to update the tutorial with the new ACES updates of after effect and also address other AOV topics that have been left out such as shadows or volumes. Thanks
Thank you very very much for that. I've been wondering the proper way to composite and to set the render for quite a while, lots of trial and error here. That was amazing, thank you again!
This is amazing. I learned so much. I have to watch more than once to absorb it all. Thank you.
I wanted to see lionel, love it
Wow, I didn't know this channel. Very useful workflow.
Is it possible to recreate the filmic LUT (LOG adjustment layer) in Photoshop?if is possible how can i do it?
Amazing, just amazing!!! Thanks a lot!
I learned so much and would like to express my gratitude. Pure Gold!
This was great, thank you so much for sharing Lionel!
excellent tutorial and super informative. thank you! can't wait to use the cryptomatte!
Thanks Michael! Let us know how you get on.
Thank you for this video. However, i have a question, when i work in linear workflow in AE and i want to export a h264 movie (through media encoder) for a preview, colors are not the same. How should i export it ?
You need check "Linear" option in the render settings.
Wow! So helpful. Thank you for sharing. I haven't finished yet, but I love the "commander" feature you use in After Effects where you can search/add effects like when we use Shift+C in C4D.
My RGB pass is noticeably darker than the 3 add layers with Diffused Lighting pass. Any ideas why those wouldn't match up?
even with the provided source project, I get a dramatic shift between rgb and the 3 add layers.. Maybe a difference with R26?
You need to change the rendering color space.
Render settings-redshift-advanced-globals-color management.
In "Rendering color space" select scene-linear Rec.709-sRGB
in "View" select un-tone-mapped
I am having this issue as well using the provided source project. I also have the render settings set as below. Any other ideas for the difference?
Brilliant video. Thankyou!
does it make sense using after effects even for still pictures? Still using Photoshop for post.. but this looks far more powerful or is there more in Photoshop i dont know of?
This video is incredible and has explained so many questions I had missing bits of info on. Thanks very much! The only question I do have is how to add a post process AOV, specifically the bloom effect. It was the main reason I came to watch this video. It was mentioned at the beginning, then never brought up again which is a shame. From doing a little research, I've discovered there is no post processing AOV (unless I've been misinformed), so I'd like to know how to add it if anyone happens to know? I've been searching for the answer on and off for weeks now and can't find the solution anywhere.
Thank you for making all these videos!!! For the Depth of Field AOV. If you want to see the pass in the Redshift Render View select the Z Depth AOV and change "Depth Mode" from Z to Z Normalized. Boom you can see it now. I don't know if Z Normalized is used in compositing however. Or how it's used.
Exactly. You can totally use the normalized Z in compositing, but you lose the precision of the 32bits workflow. Though that's not such a big deal if you don't mess too much with the gradient afterwards. The results will be still very good. Working in 32bits allow you to set the point of focus and the DOF very freely, that's the main advantage.
Awesome series
After adding all passes together the expected outcome would be the same exposure as the original EXR image. However, in my case, the image has +1 exposure in the comped version compared to the main file and is not matching. Am I doing something wrong?
Very good presentation thx so much, I have few questions
1. Lionel didn't talk about sampling why ?
2. Why didn't he use Bucket Mode ?
3. Is there AE built-in alternative plugin for DOF ?
I couldn't attend the webinar live but this was great thx a lot.
Hello there !
1 - Because I was using automatic sampling, introduced since 3.0.13, which does the sampling job for you. You just have to tweak one single parameter, the "adaptative error threshold"
2 - Because I didn't have much time during the webinar. But, yes, you use progressive mode to do the bulk of lighting, material and so one, and then work on the details in bucket mode because it's more precise
3 - There is the native camera lens blur, but the results are pretty terrible. The closest would be Fast Bokeh Pro which is very good for its price
@@lionelvicidomini6051 can you let we know how to use the Shadow AOV pass.. Thanks a lot!
@@lionelvicidomini6051 please add a link to the pdf document.
The link under the video is broken and there is no way to download the document! Thank you very much for your webinar!
Mind blowing ! Thanks a lot 💕
Can you make these files available again for downloading?
Thank you very much! But can you let me know how to use one texture domino for all domino in cloner? This is amazing!
Incredible tutorial, thanks! Just one question, if someone can help please - how to compose volume lighting pass in AE?
Lionel and Maxon, thanks for such a great, comprehensive training series. I have a question: I am struggling to know when I should add colour correction / effects on the CC BEFORE or CC AFTER adjustments. Are there some principles that I should follow?
One thing I don't understand or can't find better way how to do it at once if possible.
Let's say I want floor like a shadow catcher and add different background/floor in AE. But have possibility to remove shadows on floor? Is it possible? Thank you.
Can you use this workflow with Red Giant Supercomp? To add light wrap
really help me, great tut
I think for PURE CG render, this workflow is better, but the SAD part is filmic LUT in AE dont match the look from RS renderview, there is suttle difference.
I'm struggling with the color management (under globals in redshift render settings). Rendering color space, display, view, which color profile should these be set to? What does each influence. what was the setup in this case? Anyone? Great video BTW!
Best of the best.
Great tutorial, thanks
Wow, very nice!
Where can I find the default LUT files provided by Redshift?
This is GOLD
So helpful!!!By the way , I want to know how to find the luts file ? Thank you
Master class!!!
Amazing this!
Should i use only .exr render for Crptomatte or it works with the png and jpeg renders also?
Best toturial ever
Except the high exposure, I like the render. :D
Hi, great tutorial!
Is there a specific plugin to import EXR into after effects? I seems to be unable to import it as composition with all the layers from 1 set EXR file.
Much thanks!
you need to download a free plugin called Open EXR or upgrate to AE 2020
Is it possible to stop AOV rendering at some frame and render the rest later, like with usual frames? What'd gonna happen to an openexr multilayer file if you stop?
is there a way to keep the AE filmic look match the renderview?
great workflow, can u make an OCIO workflow ?
It's still a bit difficult with Redshift. It does has an OCIO view transform, but nothing to convert texture, you must rely on a third party tool. We're waiting for Maxon to have a proper color managment. In the meantime, there are ways to do it already, but it's convoluted.
@@lionelvicidomini6051 thx man
I selected a few AOVs, but for some reason I only got the Depth Source and the Motionvector Source, does anyone have an idea what I did wrong?
Hello, I am writing to ask you how I can change the color of Maya's exr
You stopped at export? ... geez
i did the same thing and i tired to do it dew times...but my rgb is diffrent anyone know why?
I tested cryptomatte, the problem does not affect the reflection of an object , only the object
Honestly, I dont think anything is as frustrating as trying to understand color space while also trying to keep up with changes made in the defaults between C4D, AE, and ACES. My GI, Reflections, Spec and diffuse layers are set up identical to how you have it set up here. Blending Modes also identical. Yet, they do NOT match the RGB layer. I would imagine that no matter what errors in color space workflow I may have, they should still at least match each other since they share the same settings... Any ideas why they dont? Is there a resource that provides an up to date workflow between AE and C4D? I feel like Im constantly scouring through outdated videos and crossing my fingers that the method used still works and in this case, it seems to not work...
THANK YOU !
what did you use in the output in cinema?
its not sure clear if you actually rendered a video or a still?
Tnank you!
The pdf link on dropbox doesn't work (missing file)
good
Is that pdf still available anywhere? The link appears to be dead.
46:46 It's not the same for me, I don't see the dome light image in the background in my scene
Maybe you have to add the Background AOV pass...
same here. I added the background in the AOVs and a background material with the same hdri from the dome light linked to global render settings -> default environment. After all I can not see the sky (in my case)
❤
13:2 how can I get this bloom effect in AOV or can I render this separate and composite in AE?
You need to turn back on Post FX and in the AOV to output a Beauty pass. The Beauty pass won't have any PostFX applied to it. In After Effects or elsewhere, use "difference" blending mode to substract the PostFX effect from the final composite. This way you'll have your PostFX effect as a separate layer that you can control.
@@lionelvicidomini6051 Thank you so much
I turned on PostFX and added a Beauty pass in AOV. Then I rendered it as OpenEXR in multi pass. then I came to AE and added "difference" Blending mode. Changing the blending mode is not giving the out put I wanted. I tried with rendering only beauty pass without post FX and rendering another applied Post FX. then I put the post fx applied layer on top of the beauty pass and added "difference" blending mode. but the result is weird.
How can I get Post Process AOV in Redshift
I had the same question and Redshift says: unfortunately you can't but you can render the beauty AOV and subtract the render with post FX from the one without and get just the postFX, which when added back altered will give you control over postFX
Do anyone knows how to use the shadow AOV pass? I'm trying to use some effects to desaturate the color and invert the channel, but the result is not good... any ideas?
You have the answer in the RS documentation :
docs.redshift3d.com/display/RSDOCS/Integrated+AOVs?product=cinema4d#IntegratedAOVs-Shadows
"The Shadows AOV is a raw AOV that outputs shadow information cast by objects as white. Please note that it won't highlight pixels that are in shadow because of the pixel's normal pointing away from the light.
How to use:
Multiply the Diffuse Filter AOV by the Shadows AOV. Add the result to the Diffuse Lighting AOV. Now you can control the final intensity of the shadows."
@@lionelvicidomini6051 thank you very much! i didn't know that was that document on rs site, very useful!! but my problem is not solved. i haven't a standard material on my floor but an matte-shadow catcher, and for my BG a solid color on the backplate option under HDRI maps. I'm not able to compose the final RGB image (the shadow doesn't appear)
merci Yoyo
That I can't see the Depth map is kinda flustrating. Believing in god and making sure after 8 hours of rendering it would be nice to see in RV.
with some adjustments, you can see a typical depth pass. But to his point you don't need to, the data is there
@@bartstevens2834 But how to be sure that data are there? :D
@@petrholusa5855 Faith! :D... I used a target null, and camera near/far, and was able to see something close to what I expect in a depth pass.
