Well, release them near your base (preferably no where near a scanner room, they'll run off with your drones), and just wait for them to bring you scrap metal, and teeth for days.

Idk the respawn rate of the oculus fish but it offers the best energy to size ratio in the game and would be the best choice for an alien containment/bioreactor setup
I was thinking of using this for food generation, so this is great! Especially since I can now farm my favorite food fish... the Reginald. Between Bioreactors, water filtration systems, and food production I could easily make a couple of towers to serve as fish production.😊
I've never even thought about putting up a bioreactor or a nuclear reactor. I just set up camp close to a volcano and use the thermal reactor. Endless energy
I use oculus for power and Reginald for food, with desalination plants as my water source. In deeper bases where there's no sunlight but it's also too cold for thermal power (such as that one research outpost where you use the orange tablet), bioreactors burning oculus fish are my only power source. I don't bother with nuclear power, since I find the uranium so hard to get. That, and once I get the Aurora's reactor room repaired, I basically never want to use the rad suit again. For my shallow water bases, I also place another tank just to hatch creature eggs. But as soon as I get the scans for those creatures, I put them and any remaining eggs in a bioreactor set aside just for that purpose.
I been looking for this myself, since the better alien containment unit mod lets automating, i wanted to know how fast 2 fish could produce, and the exact #’s of tanks to bio reactors i could theoretically setup. Now i know a fish is produced every 10 minutes.

Pfft I literally just use lanternfruits from one tree because it has so many, and the thing taking up the most power for me is the water filtration system. It's not like the fruits are exactly disappearing quickly, either. If you ask me, a lantern tree would be easier and much more conveniet/efficient due to its properties. Try it. 1 titanium to build a small pot, you can fit it into smaller areas and it grows back fruit way more often then you'll be using them.
I collected every species in the game I could. There's only maybe five that can't be collected; biters, bleeders, both crab species and those small green glowing fish inside some of the underwater caves. I'm still disappointed I can't grow my own corals. Anyway, I have two separate tanks for predators and two separate tanks for edible fish. I also have a tank for the cuddle fish because I thought I could breed them (can't and there's only five in the entire game). I'm in the process of setting up larger tanks for studying the Khara virus up close to see how each species is affected and how long symptoms take, etc. I already platinum'ed the game so I'm just messing around now. I built a research facility that's fully outfitted for additional people to live there, like... I want a multiplayer mod and improvements to the game to increase stability. I also want a storyline where we repair the Aurora and get her airborne again. Maybe also get the cargo equipment built in orbit to make the planet a tourist destination or some ish.
Anytime I get an egg and it hatches all I have to do is pick the same egg up and then drop it once I do that I get a baby of that egg in an instant I wonder if I could do that with a cuddle fish?
Hey, can you do this with oculus fish? They have the highest energy:size ratio of any bioreactor-compatible thing. (Yes, I know this video is almost 2 years old.)
@@IPfreely333 if you release them near your base they'll hang around for a while, and gather scrap metal for you, but eventual they'll wander off. Also, be aware of Stalkers near scanner rooms, they like to run off with your camera drones.

Yes you can in the Alien Containment and as long as you have not reached the population limit of the Containment. You can also breed the larger ones outside if you build an enclosure than can hold them, but cost wise the Containments are easiest.
Garryfish should reproduce at the same rate as fish such as the Occulus. But the saying goes "a watched Garryfish never breeds" or something like that. Just put 2 or 3 in and get busy with other stuff. Won't take long to fill up fish when you're distracted with other things.

The only fish really worth breeding are, peepers, bladderfish, reggies (for food/water), crashfish (excellent propulsion cannon ammo), and the occasional crabsquid, or reefback for biofuel.
The green spots mean that the fish are infected this will not change the fish. Later in the story line you will learn about this but it is not something you should worry about.
As long as there are two of the same creature in the containment, they will reproduce until the population limit of the containment is reached. A single containment can hold up to 10 small fish (the ones that do not use eggs), but the larger creatures will use more than 1 population slot. A single containment for example, can hold 4 Sandsharks. Once you reach that limit, the breeding process halts.
