Texas A&M fan here some things I’ve noticed over spring so far: Elko is far more organized, he will attack the portal has the number 2 overall 247 transfer recruit class, he held onto Terry bussey a 5 star in which he had around 2 months to build a relationship with, he focuses on the little details, he hired Tommy moffitt lsu’s former strength coach who won 3 championships (make the team more physical), he has a special teams coordinator something jimbo did not have… whole lot more at the end of the day we’re optimistic with what we have seen
As a miami fan I agree Mike Elko is a hell of a coach and is going to do some good things with a@m
If Elko just helps this team take one step forward they are a 9/10 win team, if they take two steps forward they are an 11/12 win team. All the ingredients are there, the cars ready to drive, just need someone to burn up the track
I’m LSU to the bone. Can’t stand neither Miami, nor FSU. However, I remember the vitriol between those two between the mid ‘90s-early ‘00s. That rivalry produced some of the most entertaining games with some of the most violent collisions. Those teams HATED each other.

Oregon has made the playoffs. They beat FSU with Winston. They ended up losing to OSU with Elliott at running back in the National Championship Game.

The first thing anyone needs to understand about Miami: It’s a small school with high academic standards. They were only ever good when they had a coach who could convince the admin to bend the rules for Florida’s finest thugs.
Secondly, Miami hasn’t been good since the Big East folded. Anyone wanting to make fun of the PAC 12 or the Big 12 needs to understand that Miami’s former conference was weaker.
Food for thought:
UCF has been a stronger football program over the past 20 years.
South Florida’s best team was better than Miami’s best team over the past 20 years.
Actually Howard Schnellenberger talked the administration into KEEPING the football program going. There was going to be a Hurricane Athletic Department without a football program.
See where you’re wrong is that even when Miami was in the big east they still played and beat some of the best teams in the country (FSU, UF and whoever the played in the post season). UCF on the other hand has historically folded when they play top teams. So you’re saying it’s fine that UCF is good in a bad conference, but when Miami did it it’s not. You discredited your own point.

Lane Kiffin had been a coach at 2 power 5 schools from 2009 to 2014 and poated a record of 35-21. However, he wasn't viewed as a power 5 caliber coach any longer because he had been fired and dealt with some personal issues that hurt his perception as a coach. Lane Kiffin couldn't have gotten another power 5 job by posting 6 or 7 win seasons for 10 plus years at FAU. He NEEDED 1 or 2 11 or 12 win seasons to get that opportunity.
There was outcry in Auburn when they hired Gene Chizik from Iowa State. Why? Because he was 5-19 in 2 seasons at Iowa State. Most people knew that the record was a clear indicator that Chizik hadn't developed into a big time coach that could handle success at a major program. Auburn won a national championship and we all know why, Cam Newton. And the fallout at that program was, it was what it was.
Guys like Chris Peterson, Kalen Deboer, and Chris Klien don't get out of the FCS and G5 ranks without having the records they have. If Terry Bowden had posted 2 or 3 11 win seasons at any time in the past 10 years he'd be at p5 /p4 program.
Nick Saban ain't Nick Saban without that record.
The record is essentially the most important thing that matters which is why we aren't as enthusiastic about 2007 LSU because their national championship came with 2 losses instead of 1 or none.
The best team doesn’t always finish with the best record. But that is rarely the case which is why they play the games. Because the record is the case that makes the best teams of a season or of all time. No one is comparing 2019 LSU with 2001 Miami or 1995 Nebraksa if the Tigers were 14-1.

If Texas A&M doesn't become the awaken giant in college football as opposed to the sleeping giant, what would take for Pate to stop assuming he's right about that?
A&M's best years were in the 90s. Since 2000, they have not been close to being a championship contender in either conference they belonged to. They may have resources but guess what many programs do. And the lack of the championship success proves that championships can't just be bought.
