In depth repair guide for the iPod Nano 4th gen. This is one of the more difficult iPod to repair. I would recommend watching the entire video first before attempting to fix your own for the best possible outcome.
Here is some more information on the buttons not working.
The buttons can stop working for two different reasons:
    1. The buttons themselves fail. This can happen when some buttons become difficult to click or do not click at all. This can easily be fixed by replacing the housing. You could also technically remove the buttons and clean underneath using the same method I showed in the iPod nano 2 tutorial although I will not recommend it as it is difficult to re attach it to the housing without making it thicker which can cause clearance issues when re inserting the motherboard.
    2. The buttons stop working due to a board failure. None of the inputs or scrolling will work although if you hold the menu and centre buttons the iPod will restart. This is not fixable as far as I am aware. Although you can reuse the housing as the issue is not with the buttons themselves but rather with the motherboard.
If you have any other issues feel free to ask in the comments as I will probably be able to help
I will have more of these coming out soon for other iPod models.

I understand now why nobody in Australia seems to offer battery replacement on this. With the time and difficulty and the high chance of damaging the device, it probably isn't worth it. Such a shame as it's my favourite model. I have been buying them refurbished from the US for years once the battery is depleted on the one I am using. Gonna have a go at this anyway as I have a bunch sitting around useless because of battery life. Thanks for the great video.

Thanks for the vid! im thinking of moving my main to the nano 3G or nano 1G due to the clips instead of this pain, hopefully you do sometime soon if you can find one near you!
(psa: many batteries have been found to be defective or not charge, as said by Techformative, he ended up having to use a spare nano.)

Great Video, thanks! The battery on my ipod blew up recently but since I'm only using it plugged to a stereo i don't really need it's battery. Do you have any idea if the iphone still works/turns on without a battery at all (when plugged to a charging station)?

My mom used to have one, but she gave it to me, 10 mins later the battery swells up sadly. (I now have it as writing this comment seeing if the battery can be replaced.)

The battery swelled up so bad that I couldn’t get the screen out no matter what I did. It’s best to replace the batteries often to avoid the batteries swelling up.
