An in depth repair guide for the iPod nano 5th gen. This the most feature rich of the click wheel ipod nanos, as it has a radio, camera and mic. Although it looks similar to the nano 4th gen it is far more repairable due to its design. Although it does take a significant amount of time to complete the repair, usually 40 minutes to an hour although may be even longer if it is your first time.

Have you considered using Caig De-Oxit D5 on the click wheel buttons? It would improve the conductivity. Also use a ‘lint’ free swab - not a standard swab. If a fiber is left on the contact surface, it will interfere with the connection. Good thorough video! Well done, sir.

Might be a stretch but I saw another video where someone punctured the battery in order to remove it as it was expanded. Would you recommend this if you know the battery has had no charge for quite some time?

Can you pop up the click wheel on the 4th gen like you did this one?

Mine turns off as soon as I unplug the cable. It bothers me because it was working fine (not lasting too much, but I could listen to 3hs of music) and suddenly it doesn’t turn on without the charger. Apple batteries suck a lot. I have an iphone 4s and an iphone 6 with new (less than 50 cicles) ORIGINAL battery (replaced by apple) and it doesn’t work anymore just because it laid in the drawer for 5 months without a charge 🤦🏻‍♂️

You were saying that the 4th gen is harder to repair? No way, it's far easier. Just took mine apart in 15 minutes without any damage at all, far less glue was invloved and far less pressure was needed with my 4th gen just had to follow specific steps in order. If anyone wants one to be easily repairable then definitely go with a 4th gen, the only thing you're missing is a slightly larger screen and a camera and we all know you're never going to use it for the camera.

I think the 4th gens have more unfixable issues and a higher failure rate due to the screen and button flex cables being apart of the PCB. So there is a higher chance that you wont be able to fix it. The 5th gen had those lego style connectors for the LCD and buttons so even if they are water damage on them you can still fix it. But it is quicker for sure to fix a 4th gen if say its just a battery or LCD replacement.

So I replaced the battery but it will not power from the new one. When cable connected it works, when cable disconnected does not work. Battery is charged so what is wrong?

Did I burnt somethig on PCB while dismantling the old one?

First thing i would try is leaving it to charge for a long period of time if you haven't tried that already, sometimes the new batteries can come pretty flat if they have been sitting for a long time.
If that hasn't worked it may be a faulty battery. If you have a multi meter you can test the voltage, if it is between 3 - 4.2v it should work. If it is lower than that sometimes the BMS (Battery management system, the circuit board on the bottom of the battery) will not allow for it to charge as it can be dangerous to charge a battery cell that has been sitting at below 2.4v for an extended period of time.
Also double check that you didnt rip the flex cable hanging off of the battery when you re assembled it. It is pretty easy to do as it is fragile.
      Hope that helps

@@partspluspods3689 thanks for the comment. Battery is charged, it was connected to charger for few hours. I have probably destroyed paths on PCB while disconnectig the old one :/

Mine has the same problem but it still have the original battery. I tried cleaning the 30 pin port with isopropyl alcohol but it still turns off when I unplug the cable :/
