Survival Lilly I’m used to shooting compound but know have my grandfathers recurve and was wondering how you aim for side to side ex. Is your arrow tip off target or high or low or are you putting the arrow tip on the bullseye? I know it’s different for everyone but was wondering thankyou and I always enjoy your videos !!!
@@Joespmama. it’s a great bow ! I got it a while ago it’s beautiful and shoots silent and amazing and now I just bought the Phantom from Mandarin Duck. Both are amazing bows :) !
I just bought the fifty pound version as a recurve bow and I love it, this Black Hunter... and today going to test out Flu Flu arrows on it... for bird hunting archery and see how I like it for that. Thanks for the reviews and words all of you, I took my time before I decided to buy this bow... LOL! I love my Mongolian Horse bow but this is next on my favorite bow list.
In case you haven't quite made permanent markings on your riser yet, it might be smart to use some kind of sticker or something slightly less than permanent...just in case you ever decide to change limbs for a different draw weight...even trying different arrow shafts or tip weights could make your initial markings obsolete...food for thought :) Nice shooting!
Very good suggestion indeed. But having shot a bow for the last 14 years, and having had a shoulder operation, I would be very surprised if Lilly evr decided to swap limbs. She said that 40 pounds is her limit.
@@mishellgagnon5771 true...another reason would be for changing arrow and/or point weight, this can change where the markings will need to be as well...even changing fletchings can have some effect
Learned this many years ago before compound bows came out when I was a kid. Couldn't afford bow site back then. I remember my dad told to use tape instead of scratching a mark on the bow like people did back then. Arrow weight would change site reference point. Good video Lilly.
I love this. I'm tired of pure Trad instinctive. I want to responsibly hit my target and I can't shoot every day. Having some sighting in place for Trad is awesome.
Anything can be done. If a man can think it , it can happen . I’m glad you like your bow . I love shooting bows . Trying to get past 60 yards . Another few weeks I hope. I noticed week after week getting better and better .
when i first started shooting(target archery over 30 years ago) i didn't have a sight yet so i used a piece of double sided tape on the front edge of the riser there with a sewing pin stuck in it, it allows for changing distance and windage(we were shooting 20-40m at first so wind is a factor) for field archery you could just use multiple pins.
Lilly, that was amazing. Beautifully done! You've inspired me to get back into archery. And that Mandarin Duck bow is really quite beautiful as well. Thank you!
Hey Lilly, just wanted to let you know I watched this video with my Granddaughter Chimpmonk and she is now in love with you!!! She was so excited at how awesome you are with a bow, her words. Thanks for just being you and yeah, your a good example for her I think so thanks again. We'll be watching! Good bless you!
One other note, if you can should groups and if you have a large enough target vertically. You can use say your 20 yd mark or pin ,starting at the top of target, then shoot group at 20 yds , then use same pin to shoot at 30 yds but aim at the same high spot, same pin at 40 yds and same pin at 50 yds aiming at the same high spot. You will see the graduation of the gaps between the groups and the pattern will be the same as the bow sites. If you measure center of 20 yd group to center of 50 yd group this will tell you what the arch of the arrows are. Then if you increase bow weight or lighten arrow and still be able to shoot groups , then you can tighten the distance between the 20 yd group and the 50 yd group. If you can lessen this distance between the 20 and 50 groups then you are shooting a flatter arch which helps if your hunting or shooting 3D archery because of the yardage estimating. ( how far is it ?)
Lilly, I shoot English long bow for competition. We will often mark our bow limbs with a sharpie marker to give a sight position. I am pleased to see others do the same or at least similar :)
Suppose to keep both eyes open and not to be aiming with the tip of the arrow more like stay focused with both eyes and keep your eye focused on the spot you wanna hit and you will hit what your looking at and, you also aim with the hand that holds the bow more than your eyes as well. Just some tips
Lilly, I am an instinctive shooter and I am impressed with your shooting. Your groups seem to favor the left so try not to curl your fingers so much and use the first knuckle on your string hand. Love your videos !!
If you use the bow to deer hunt you know you will have to recalibrate the sights due to the fact the broadhead is heavier than the field point and the arrow point of impact may be different.
Hi Lili! With a triangular Swiss file you could make beautiful marks on a piece of aluminum, brass or wood screwed to the bow.So if your strength change you can always change your plate. You can also install inserts so you can reuse over and over your screw holes! :)
Your archery videos are my favorite, all of your videos are awesome probably my favorite channel on UA-cam. There’s so much useful information on it and just fun to watch.
hi Lilly, this is just for you, but it's posted public for all to gain motivation, I've enjoyed watching you grow into a great persuer of survival knowledge ,and you have grown leaps and bounds ,very happy to have subscribe to your channel, mainly because I love to watch you, but I hope that others who would like to learn how to be self sufficient ,I feel it's most important that people learn, because you never know when it might be your life or others depending upon your skills to survive, keep up the good work, and I look forward to see more of your channel..xoxo love.
Hi, markings will work only with this set of arrows. Ballistic trajectory is different when you shoot uphill or downhill. So it is better to buy a pin sights. Sights are adjustable to situations. Another way is to visualise gap between target and aiming spot. Or try stringwalking. Anyway, nice shooting.
Lilly: See a poor idea transferring marks from paper to sight. I would adjust my sight and depth from the sight, The paper mark will add to the irregularity, Hope you will drop the idea of setting a marker on the paper. Cheers
Funny I have the long bow version and tried what you did with poor results. Threw me off. Went back to arrow tip and string alignment. Thanks for the interesting and informative video. Cheers!
Thanks lilly great idea my black hunter arrived today thanks to your review i decided to get one can't wait to get out and give it a shot awsome bow for the money .keep up the great video's I'm a big fan thanx👍
If they are already taller I would recommend the bow in this video or a Samick SHT or Samick sage. For kids I recommend 20 pounds draw weight at the beginning. You can already purchase stronger limbs (30 pounds) for when they get stronger
OK, excellent tip. I'll write that down and when the time comes, will pick that up. They received a birthday gift recently for archery lessons, so we'll see if they express interest after taking the class. Thanks!
Has Lily ever said where she anchors her bow string hand on her face? I have noticed that other recurve archers will do something like have a thumb or knuckle on their jaw or mouth.
Mandarin Duck market some really good archery products at reasonable prices. A couple of things, your nocking point on your string looks really high and could be why your arrows are leaving the bow with the fletching high and the pile low? Also by the way the arrows are hitting the target it looks like your arrow spine is on the soft side (arrow nocks pointing to the left). Nice shooting.
Great video. Ive never been trained in archery, i just have always been shoiting. Ive never 'aimed' it just seems to go where i want. I will try this with interest. I split my first arrow over christmas which is now framed on my wall.
Nice video, a couple of things with the recurve. You could make your draw quieter by putting some hide on your rest, just a little piece. Your aiming seems to work pretty well, your arrows seem like they are bouncing off your riser giving your arrows a wobble up.
Finally bought one of these Black Hunter bows today and will see how I like it... fifty pound version. So decided to watch your video on it... thank you for all your archery videos... hope you are doing well... later...
+Suvival Lilly Excellent description of how you aim instinctively. I don't know how it could have been said any better. I've never shot a bow with sights - always instinctively, like all of our ancestors did. It would be nice to have both skills. Stay safe. Happy New Year.
You would enjoy a target recurve... 25" riser with some ILF limbs... and a regular site. Those Risers... are drilled for arrow rest, pressure buttons... and sight mounts.... along with stabilizer threads too. Your groups would get very small & accurate. Good Shooting.
I used a perminant marker but then I realised as it got dark or in shadows it was hard to see them. A white marker on a dark riser is much more visible
Hi Lilly, I love the look of that bow, I’ve been eyeing it for a while, but can’t find any good reviews of it. Do you still shoot this bow? Have you had any problems? I only shoot barebow, and this bow looks great.
Survival Lilly why do you have to knock so high with this bow? Is it just your aiming style? If I’m imagining this correctly by knocking high you are bringing the arrow up towards your eye level, thus reducing the range of the bow, but making it easier to sight. Are you just knocking so high because the bow is so powerful and you want to reduce the aiming “gap”?
Nice shooting Lilly! You might look into a vintage sight that you can tape-on the bow, they come with multiple adjustable pins or a peep. One type is called a "Bear Shur-Hit Hunting Sight". They have several listed on Ebay right now. I had my doubts how your bow was going to shoot as your nock looks way high, especially with a split-finger release, but it seemed fine. I'll bet that you could shoot plastic vanes just fine with that set-up. You might want to add a velcro arrow rest. Also, you should check out an aiming system called a "Fixed-Crawl". It's becoming very popular as an aiming technique using the tip of the arrow.
Good shooting! You might get better grouping and better stamina by working on your release as well. Seems like you're plucking the string when releasing, when in good form and release, your hand would naturally slide backwards as you're holding the bow not with your arms, but with your back muscles.
25 meters, 'this is just for fun now'. That's the key. I've shot(rifle) a great group walking up to the table. I get so excited about the great group(and somehow tensed up) that it goes completely downhill. There's a lot of mental to great anything.
I have always used sites with pins or markings of 20,30,40. and 50 yds. the marks or pins gradually open up as you are farther away due to gravity. The gaps should be farther apart at the longer distance's than say the 20 yd setting to 30 yd setting. The 30 to 40 a little wider, and 40 to 50 should be the widest. This info is assuming everything is the same. All arrows identical , draw weight and your form. Then all you need to know is how far is the target.
I just bought a new phone and lost all of my subscriptions on UA-cam. I am so glad I remember you to go back and subscribe again. I think you are cool.
I know its been a while. I have shot bows with sights and without. I very much prefer without. You don't aim when you throw a ball. Your brain calculates the trajectory and you go instinct or feel. This is how I prefer to shoot a bow, by instinct, using my brain to make the shot calculations rather than relying in sights. I'm not saying sights are bad, I just feel that I know and understand my bow so much better shooting instinctively, and it it more than adequate for hunting. Great channel, I always enjoy watching.
Ive noticed when i try to aim i miss where i am looking and get angry, and from that anger i shoot without aiming and i hit exactly where i want. I shoot an osage 60lb longbow without sights, any advice or tips for instinctive shooting?
@@milesmanges the Guy i learned from just said lots ofpractice, especially from different unknown distances. I will move around in my yard and shoot a few groups until they tighten up, then move closer of farther. shoot a few more groups until they tighten up. kind of teaching my brain to gauge the flight of the arrow. also I try not to hold it very long. I line my body up. look at my target, bring the bow into position for what feels right, and let it go. the longer i try to hold it and aim, the more trouble I have, i look and go by feel.
Try using white drafting tape to mark your sights. Also there are sights designed for recurve bows. You shoot pretty well. It looked like you were getting tired at the 20 and 25 meter ranges. I am sure your groups will be much tighter when you are fresh at those ranges. You began to snap your release and slightly drop your bow, a sign of tiredness, ie your group opened up. You are a much better shooter than that.
Have you considered "sight-pins" Also the next time you have your arrows fletched consider 4 fletching , properly done with shorter fletching you will see no flight difference in the arrow . The advantage is it makes no difference how you nock the arrow it will be correct not having t worry about correct nocking .

Their are many good bow hunters out there and some that , well maybe they should not , but who I am I .... it is just my personal thoughts . keep the good work up and I enjoy your reviews.

Hey Lilly great work have you considered using a strip of waterproof tape and neon colored nail polish for making hash marks for better visibility in varying light conditions?
Only available on their website for now. However, this is just a rebranding of the Junxing F171. Several different vendors purchase and rebrand it. Obert, SinoArt, Mandarin Duck to name a few.
Hi Lily. That’s a beautiful bow. I have a some questions. First, what pound is your bow at? Second, on your Sawmick Bow, you had a stationary sight and a Peep sight. What company did you get those products from? Lastly, what type of arrows are you shooting? Love your videos. They’re fantastic!

I have enjoyed watching these videos, In parts of Europe, their seems to be many restrictions even for food consumption when using a bow. Their are many good bow hunters out there and some that , well maybe they should not , but who I am I .... it is just my personal thoughts . keep the good work up and I enjoy your reviews.
That's really impressive Lilly, you are very smart!!!
Very nice video. It was fun watching you be so excited. If you ever want to hunt, come to the states. There are deer, turkeys, and hogs everywhere.
Your form looks perfect and powerful when you are firing that bow. YOU would have been good in the hunger games ! Btw; your hair is quite a beautiful color and I look forward to spring when your hat comes off ! You were right, there was no reason to go blonde when you first started your page .
Muy buen sistema para calcular la distancia del disparo. Un saludo compañera
i'm all mellowed out now. thx Lilly
Hey Lilly great work have you considered using a strip of waterproof tape and neon colored nail polish for making hash marks for better visibility in varying light conditions?
Lilly. I can't find a Black Hunter by MD anywhere. Any idea when they might be restocking?
Only available on their website for now. However, this is just a rebranding of the Junxing F171. Several different vendors purchase and rebrand it. Obert, SinoArt, Mandarin Duck to name a few.
GRACIAS FELICIDADES GIRL
🤩 God bless you
Very nice INFORMACIÓN
wow! Nice bow, awesome shooting! Thanks!
Hi Lily. That’s a beautiful bow. I have a some questions. First, what pound is your bow at? Second, on your Sawmick Bow, you had a stationary sight and a Peep sight. What company did you get those products from? Lastly, what type of arrows are you shooting? Love your videos. They’re fantastic!
Wow, you're a good archer. I liked the idea, thanks.
Wow that bow is beautiful.
