All I need from Nikon now is to give the Zf a firmware update for half-press to zoom out :'D
Competitors do not allow dual recording. Guys, think for a second here. Look at the codecs, containers and frame rate of the camera. Why on earth, would it dual record to a type b and then an SD card? Help that make sense. Buy a Cine camera if that’s important to you. Canon R5 doesn’t even dual record. Hi, great review. However, recording in 6K RAW or 4K RAW ProRes is limited by the card's capacity. In fact, even when using a real 2TB card, you can only record about 35 minutes, either continuously or in fragments. I have had this issue since purchasing, both with 2TB Sandisk CF cards and ProGrade cards. According to Nikon's official support, there are only four certified brands for RAW, and only one, Nextorage, exceeds 660GB, reaching 1.3TB. When manually partitioning my ProGrade CFexpress card to 660GB using a PC, the camera works perfectly. However, if I leave it standard, the recording stops after reaching 660GB, even though there are still 40 minutes available. If I continue, it stops again every 20, 30, or 15 seconds. Only by inserting a new CF card or reformatting it do I get the full 40 minutes available again. I apologize for my English. Best regards from italy
I heard lot of people talking and showing a bad performance in low lights. like strange flickering and artifacts....do you noticed something like that?
Why both about deal recording? Just stick in a 512 or 1 TB in and you're done. Furthermore, you could upload your data to the Nikon cloud service temporary if your juice runs out. Honestly you don't even need 6k. For normal media posting 4k 30 or 4k 60 is already good enough. To me, the addition of REDLuts to their N-log is really a blessing as well. Remember, moving forward, Nikon will incorporate more RED features once they done testing the beta algorhytm across all N-log specs. Camera aside, I think its time for Nikon to roll out a new speedlight. Their SB 5000 is 10 years old now. Luckily the Godox V1 Pro comes to a rescue
That RED was allowed to patent internal RAW is just off the charts crazy. But there it is! I just have that nasty suspicion as to what happened in the patent office - or should I rather say outside, under the table.
The internet is packed with videographers asking about how to recover images and video from their SD card (especially from Sony cameras), but, so it appears, very few from Nikon users. That might be due to the fact that the Z-series from the beginning could only take the larger, and much more reliable, XQD and later on, CFexpress B, cards. From my experience with Nikon Z-cameras, I don't need a second card slot.
Very nice review! I really feel that in 2024, we shouldn't be paying $2500 for a camera that cannot record video or photos to dual cards, specially if you are buying for professional work that cannot be re-shoot, like a wedding for example. This is one of the main reason why I am selling my Pocket6k Pro, and I will probably not pull the trigger on this camera unless they unlock the dual recording feature like Canon eventually did with the R5.
No camera under 3k USD has dual recording, not even Eos R5 so whether it can dual record or not it doesn't matter coz the competition also doesn't, just check the 6k raw and other most important things you need, hope this helps 🎉
Camera looks really good! Thank you for this great video. I can't be the only one that thinks this IBIS is somehow a step backward... ? I've shot lots on Z6ii and Z9 and esp. for the latter... idk. It just seems a little jankier.
No dual recording is a dealbreaker. I'm in my third year in my photo/video journey, and I already had a card failure. Unrecoverable photos and videoclips on it. Glad I bought dual card slot cameras that actually can save to both cards. It can be the best camera ever if it doesn't have this feature it's basically a single card slot camera therefor not a professional tool. Or at least not for the kind of work that you cannot repeat.

The lack of dual recording should be a deal breaker for a wedding videographer today. Totally unacceptable. Your reputation is so valuable, and losing your footage will kill it. Nikon must address this ASAP.
@@peterra2532 It's not just about redundancy, the benefits also include 1) having a card in the camera at all times, 2) have overflow capacity when one is filled up, and 3) backup flexibility.
Its not about the body always. The biggest problem with Nikon today is lense choices. I wish Nikon makes a S line 1.4 series for hybrid shooters. 1.4 S line can be a optimum balance of quality, charecter, weight n price . Unfortunately nikon dosent have amazing support like sony from Zeiss or sigma.
The problem with relying on 32-bit float is that you can end up either under driving or over driving the mic capsule which leaves you with a pristine recording of a mic working outside its sweet spot for sound pressure. Plus for a lot of commercial work you still have to deliver in 24-bit. So learning how to gain stage properly on set (or at a wedding) is still an essential skill.
Per Nikon, this camera DOES automatically record proxy files to the SD card when recording high quality video files to the CF Express drive. Also, Davinci Resolve already supports ProRes RAW. ua-cam.com/video/Rr7-tyt8aWg/v-deo.html

Lost me on not being able to dual record. As a wedding filmmaker, having the peace of mind that comes with a backup in case one card fails is especially important.

Why wouldn't it? If you are filling the frame properly it's a non issue.
My A1 doesn't have most of the video features of this camera :(
@17:30 that's a lot of noise in the shadows.
most cinema cameras don't record to two cards at the same time.
They should have added a flippy uppy screen. It is a must for me
NIKON Z6iii Rolling shutter 12.5 ms (2500USD)
CANON R8 14.5 ms (1200USD) ???
oh okay so it only films in slow mo
Very nice review! I really feel that in 2024, we shouldn't be paying $2500 for a camera that cannot record video or photos to dual cards, specially if you are buying for professional work that cannot be re-shoot, like a wedding for example. This is one of the main reason why I am selling my Pocket6k Pro, and I will probably not pull the trigger on this camera unless they unlock the dual recording feature like Canon eventually did with the R5.
Problem with codec different
I need this camera but I'm from Argentina it's gonna take so longo to get it 😪😪😪😪
No camera under 3k USD has dual recording, not even Eos R5 so whether it can dual record or not it doesn't matter coz the competition also doesn't, just check the 6k raw and other most important things you need, hope this helps 🎉
Could you describe what the dual gain iso issue looks like in h265 N-log recording?
Is it an issue? ISO 5k is dirtier than 6400; knowing where the second base kicks in is useful in making technical exposure choices.
@@northofbrandon Of course not ;)
My little typo.
Thanks for the information, dual ISO at 6400 is higher than I expected.
@@TheRapTrue I think it may depend on what mode you're in (h265 vs log or raw) but I could be wrong. I have heard 100 and 500 for 265? hmm
You know how many 20+ thousands cameras did not have dual recordings. LOL.
Any CFexpress B failures?
@@livejames9374 It was an sd card. Good quality but sd.
Jared Polin must be crazy to slate this camera.
He has gone autofocus crazy.
I'm confident to buy this camera to replace my original z6
Coming from the original Z6 it's a massive upgrade
No entiendo todas las quejas, ni en esta cámara ni en la s9… creo que estas cámaras son increíbles 😅 solo que ahora solo nos concentramos en tener algo que criticar, lo que sea😅
Damn Nikon gonna steal a tons of customers back from Sony and Panasonic. 6k/60p and 4k120p interal raw? JEEEZ
sony will probably answer to this.... and then canon maybe and then panasonic ...i mean this never ends ....imo sony is the one that leads atm ... but when nikon does this they have to make something equal or better
Not really. RAW is not a popular workflow for its target audience shopping in this price range.
@@sardanapalos sony already knew about this so im sure they are preparing. Sony literally makes sensors for Nikon (alongside Fuji and Lumix) so they pretty much know what they will be facing against
@@Omgiamsotriggered i guess they will put it all on the a7siv ...but will they put internal raw? thats the big question for me
@@sardanapalos I think A7S is gonna be canceled, literally pointless now that sony is focusing on the FX line plus the ZV line. Highly doubt they are going to keep specialising in 3 different lines of cameras that are the same thing. U gotta admit Z6iii has some crazy video specs for 2500$, great allaround package.
Matt used the “O” word 😮
The specs are fantastic, but a $2500 camera should be able to shoot to 2 cards even if it's not the highest quality settings or something.
You can add something like the Atomos Ninja. At least you have the option.
@@danielvilliers612 that's true but that's adding ~$600 to your total but at that point you're getting closer to the Z8 price and could get more bang for your buck there.
Bringing up the ~2hr limit is ridiculous because how many people actually record for even an hour?
Excelente trabajo bro me tiene pensando esa Nikon z6IIi soy usuario de Sony y quisiera navegar en otras aguas 😉
Sounds like a nice camera but market feels like it's getting saturated.
Except that no ones has these features even in their much more costly cameras.
@@danielvilliers612 4k 60 without a crop, no over heating, 4k oversampled from 6k, etc are nice but not enough to sell all my sony and reinvest in another eco system. Even if I would buy I would wait for people who do longer term reviews, these are just a preview of every think that's good without real world usage.
One clear trade off it doesn't have good enough internal stab like Panasonic to use without a gimbal. Also the 1 card recording. It's ok not a deal breaker.
I love we are at the point where there are so many good cameras for people to choose from
8:30 +1 Makes no sense as a Z8 owner. Why - just why. Hopefully the can remove this feature or at least let us hack it
Also when/if we will get red code raw on Z8/9/6iii
Dual card recording for video is not very important.
I have never experienced card failure, been using Nikon and Fujifilm for years.
The AF is so good that the footage looks like it was shot with a green screen.
The lack of dual recording should be a deal breaker for a wedding videographer today. Totally unacceptable. Your reputation is so valuable, and losing your footage will kill it.
Nikon must address this ASAP.
I shot 10years wedding video and photo, with only 1 sd card and never had problem…As cf card is more robust, I won’t be afraid…
@@peterra2532 It's not just about redundancy, the benefits also include 1) having a card in the camera at all times, 2) have overflow capacity when one is filled up, and 3) backup flexibility.
Peace of mind is important.
Why do you absolutely want 1.4 s-line? 1.8 vs 1.4 is near the same in terms of light and bokeh…1.8 s-line are as good as 1.4 from sony in terms of IQ
Agreee, its the same principle as raw video
1:26 UA-camrs now have chaperones, 😂
Per Nikon, this camera DOES automatically record proxy files to the SD card when recording high quality video files to the CF Express drive. Also, Davinci Resolve already supports ProRes RAW. ua-cam.com/video/Rr7-tyt8aWg/v-deo.html
lol avoiding to compare it to S5iix which has unlimited recording when you were talking about overheating is AMAZING! just shows where the agenda is coming from.
S9 is not this in camera territory S5iix is and it's almost 50% cheaper with the deals
Affordable 6K Raw Video Camera? LMFAO! 3,000 euros-I wish I were rich enough to call that affordable.
I dont get your advise "film in 24p not 60p",!! you never slow your footage for any reason?
not a word about how large are Prores or RAW videos ... much more than h264/265, you won’t use it at a wedding.
6k without opengate, Ibis mehh. Strange camera for weddings
Perhaps because you have the choice.
Storage is cheap these days. Remember filmmakers used to take up terabytes filming a wedding with a 1DXiii without raw.
@@whoismatt not so cheap, considering that you need to backup the flash drive and then also ssd /hdd . If one wedding takes up 500+ GB, this is a problem . Let's not remember those heroes who used 1DX's )
I shoot entire wedding in 8k raw with z8, at the end of the day I use around 800gb (but at the end of the day I shoot h265). I use 1tb that cost me 300$ canadian dollars, and 2x 12tb hard drive that cost me 400$ canadian dollar…
I think that 6k raw will take less storage…
It’s not so expensive…
When I finish to edit a wedding, I transform all footage to h265, for backup and save it for 2 years…
When I shot first in nraw I never shot h265 anymore as raw is so good
@@peterra2532 one question .. why????
1:25 Nikon doesn't trust you. They lent the Z6III to Gerald Undone for a few weeks before embargo without a chaperone.😂
Or more like they know Gerald doesn't shoot anything outside his studio lol
For wedding video 1080 still enough,
The export 😎
Not really, esp not sony"s fhd ( exceptions for 12mp sonys )
Dang it Nikon, stop releasing so many cameras that I want! I'm trying to stay with Lumix for my wallet's sake! 😅
You want to record on two Memory Cards yet you use the Cheap Belkin Memory Card??? Most Mfrs will be using cheap cards too, both are going to fail even if it had the ability!!
If you want excellent video, we all know who the real beast is.
the moment you said “can only record to 1 card” I was out
This is my biggest issue with this camera. I was ready to buy 2 camera's until I heard this...
I shoot Nikon and it’s the #1 thing that pisses me off about their latest releases. They have the tech, but just refuse to push a firmware update that provides dual slot recording.
There’s a simple solution folks, go buy a brand that does, it’s not the end of the world!
@@russellwright9961 I've already spent so much money on Nikon camera gear... It's such a simple addition and fix...
The middle of the line is that it delivers a clean HDMI output that you can record with a ninja for example.
You get a7SIII for the price of a7IV
Is it me or does Nikon video quality looks too clinical? The image is nice and clean but not much character. Does this have to do with the lens or is that how Nikon processes it's image?
It’s definitely sharp in 6K with super sharp lenses. You may wanna add a filter to soften it a bit if you prefer
Best pic quality
Sony
Canon
Lumix
Nikon
This flip out screen is an atrocity. I was thinking of exchanging my Zf for a Z6iii before, now I think I’ll have to look to another brand. Nikon used to put photography first. I’m sad to see that “me, myself and I, look at me on social media” videographer types are more important !!! Sad day as far as I’m concerned.
Nikon was starting to fall off. This was a much needed release. Great job nikon 👏🏼
This will not be a big seller in the wedding world, which is probably the biggest market to throw away
Is the new d750. Will definitely be big in wedding space
Why I didn’t care at all about this beast camera.
That's not an entry level camera though :) but loved your video/feedback.
If Sony don’t pull their socks up they will be on the wrong side of tech. Tech moves so fast and Sony do make amazing products but they are so slow at bringing out new cameras that they are getting overtaken to often
Lost me on not being able to dual record. As a wedding filmmaker, having the peace of mind that comes with a backup in case one card fails is especially important.
Being able to record to only to 1 slot for video is crazy.
CFx-B is inherently more stable than SD cards. So maybe they figured it’s not needed. That said, I own a Z8 & Z9 and Atomos Ninja V. If I ‘need’ dual recording I record to the Ninja V. Ceremony, speeches etc.
@@mikeblack_pw Any card is prone to failure. Imagine doing a wedding and you lost all your footage because the card failed and you had no backup. No reason you shouldn't be able to dual record when you can on Sony, Canon, and Panasonic.
It’s insane.
@@kifley19 really not a problem. I’ve had industry acquaintances (whose other brands) have the mother board fail in their camera, battery errors, over heat shut downs, lens error. All where dual recording doesn’t help. CFx-B architecture is such that you may lose a file. The loss of an entire card is statistically less than dropping your camera after tripping over their family dog.
@@mikeblack_pw dude! It's better to be safe than sorry. How you can defend it when they could've have easily added it. I'm not going to argue anymore.
