Owned, driven, built almost every fast Civic, Integra configuration from N/A to boosted, I can confirm : Clio 3 RS is out of the factory the better car.. Honda engines respond way better to simple performance modifications, true but... come on .. the EP3 pre-facelift or facelift just handles like a pancake with the horrible electronic steering! Even the 2006 FN2 model is just.. understeered and boring boring with the K20. The RS, just look at it! Mine is RS blue with black rims, KW coils, bronze Brembo calipers, the optional spoiler pack, wide stance.. drove it tonight on total foggy, rainy wetter on slippery tarmac and I am amazed that even without limited slip I can just floor it in the apex where.. EP3 would spin it's wheels. Honda.. what were you thinking with the ?? Luckely they did well with the 2015 model and the new improved 2021 current model, well saving up for that one.. drove one.. sold.. absolutely sold on that car, but soooo expensive in my country - 60k Euro BAH!
Great review and smooth driving too. Was in Wales recently, had one of these chasing me down the country roads. Was stuck on me like a leech! Only on the straights did I pull away.
Yeah I've always been a fan of the look too! Don't see many in red either from experience! It's a shame about the box issues eh 😔 Thanks again mate, looking forward to doing a video in the future with you!
@@GEARED_MrLucas red is actually one of the more common colours when you look it up. I was trying to get a french racing blue one when I was looking, but cant find one for a good price anywhere, so got Red with Black roof and cup spoiler
Good video mate. I would agree with you in terms of the chassis and handling of the Renault Sports. But the electronics, gearboxes and engines bring back bad memories. 😂
Having owned a 172, 182 & 197 I can safely say the Renault Sport chassis are definitely on point. Just the daily running cost of a 197 that I couldn’t cope with.
I'm thinking about getting some small daily driver on a budget but packing a punch. What was the most expensive part of owning it beside refuelling it? I'd appreciate your input mate.
David Fogel mainly the tax being near £300 a year. Tyres where expensive at the same time. Suspension components, swivel hubs etc. Gearbox’s are absolute shite be prepared to spend £500+ your box on a exchange basis. I just think for a budget daily driver car I wouldn’t be having another 197 unless it was 225 swapped. I can average 35mpg in my 182 that is not a standard car & I drive that hard every single day. I do a number of track days each year. You’ll be amazed the amount of people that sell up a 172 / 182 for a new 197 / 200 model then come back within 6 months for my reasons above. Anything else you feel I might be able to help with question wise feel free to pick my brains. My 197 would average 22mpg on a 20 mile round trip work commute then 182 I’ve got will see 36mpg.
@@jonboyy1327 cheers for coming back so quickly. I'm actually in Ireland so tax is horrendously expensive whichever way you look at it. €720 annually for a Clio RS 197 registered up to mid-2008 and €750 after. Was looking to get something fun to drive as my 320i e90 is way underpowered. I had Civic chewing trough the tyres so that is not a bother for me, got pretty much used to it. Also due to how greedy insurers are I'd need to look at something that's maximum 11-12 years old. Somehow older ones are not appealing to me. I'll come back to you if I have more questions. Cheerio!
David Fogel 110% confidence in saying if you buy a well looked after 182 even with a few miles on the clock / modifications you will not be disappointed. If your not blown away by the handling & character the car has to offer even out the box then I’ll be surprised. If the 197 / 200 is more for yourself then just be ready for the more frequent fuel stops & higher priced maintenance. I’m sure Luke who’s channel this is will agree having driven both cars mentioned around track that the Renaultsport chassis are superb.
If you want something a little bigger have you considered a Megane R26 225 ? Ph1 trophy are bang on the money right now. I’m sure they only produced 500 vehicles so would be a solid investment either way.
Great video mate nice comparison good to hear the views with you coming from the civic. My 197's taken a beating and I've not yet needed to be recovered in over 5 years, I am close to my second gearbox rebuild though 😂.
@@GEARED_MrLucas The synchros were last done about 3 years ago when the diff went it and it turned out the clutch slave cylinder was on its way out (something I think is happening again) but the synchros were just replaced more of a whilst we're there. A good track day car, but in standard form to heavy and under powered, gearings all wrong to be fair Renault sorted on the 197 cup made it a bit taller but their still prone to breaking.
I think he'd done a really good job of the changes he made to it. I agree about the engine and box though. Engine runs out of puff abit higher up and the ratio's are fairly long! Suppose that why people put the Megane engines in!
The Megane engine is what they should of rolled out the factory with in the first place. Sold my 182 cup early part of the year and bought an RS200 in the summer can’t fault the handling my god it sticks to the road but another 50 Hp would be nice.
