Having owned both I'd say the 172 is lighter and more agile, marginally quicker and for what its worth much better on fuel. But the 197/200 is so much more confidence inspiring. The chassis is so capable that the car actually feels like it could do with another 100bhp. I loved both for different reasons and would love to own either again in the future.
Love the vid as always! Alex, Matt, have you thought of doing a video on what the cars are running and what plans you have for them? (Other than buying a clio 200)

Question: since you guys drive with such finesse, did you ever have any training, if so, where? Or did you just grow up learning?

@@scottderrington4068 yeah mate had both on track. The 172 Cup i have done about 14 trackdays and the 197 had on track at croft last year. They both were brilliant on track. The 172 felt that bit lighter.

I've owned both these cars, albeit the 200 was FF with the cup pack. The 172 was probably the most fun as it's like driving a go-kart, but the 200 was so much more refined you could really throw it round the road with confidence. I'm pleased I got to own both and never regretted owning them. Just keep them serviced and replace the belts early. Come on Renault, lets get back to making amazing hot hatches.
Awesome vid! Fellow 200 owner here, they really are epic on track. Just wondering if this car was running an LSD? It was putting the power down so nicely out of some of the slower speed corners.

And they have all been mapped plus extras and for me personally the RS200 stole me from the get go has the best fuel consumption can be thrashed all day . And is so so sooo capable. Just got to watch them gearbox synchros 😂 .
Some crazy people on trackdays lately just like these people, complete asbo behaviour behind the wheel driving like lunatics with no regards for other track users and lift off oversteer all over the show, and some close calls nearly ending their cars and I absolutely love it!
Gopro hero 8 Black, and we manually set the exposure before hand. On the helmet cam it was a hero 5 black we messed up and left it on auto exposure and it didn't work so well.

Hi I’m a big fan of the channel and I own a Clio cup 172 it’s on my channel. I recently had the gear box go and was hoping for some pointers on which ones are a good replacement as people seem pretty conflicted about it on the Clio forum and I knew that you guys know your stuff when it comes to clios. If you don’t have time for my comment then I fully understand thanks.
Hi Pel, thanks for the kind words! Unfortunately we don't know a whole lot about the gearboxes for Clios. From our experience the standard one on our 172 seems to be suited relatively well to the tracks we've been to. I think one thing to look for which you may already know is to make sure you get the one with the right bits to drive the speedo as the 172s pull the speedo from the geerbox not the ABS rings on the driveshafts.
Even with the Setup on the 182 it’s no match for them tyres fitted to that 200 lol. 182 noticeably quicker on the straights tho, even with the slower corner speeds and exits!
I went from 306 GTi-6 to 200 Cup - both bloody fantastic in their own ways. Might be hard not going back-to-back, but is the 200 that much different from the 197?

@@ChrisKronk117 it does take away a bit of the character of bouncing off the limiter but the chassis is so good it's a shame to not give it the extra power it deserves. The 200 got lower gearing 1,2, and 3rd and cylinder head was slightly reworked along with mapping to bring Max hp in a little earlier. The 200 sounds best if you don’t put a noisy exhaust on as the engine really screams at the top end. They need remapping as std map is not great and most are not producing their proper power, once mapped they’re excellent.
