I've had a Quad lock on my M1200S for the past 4 years. Worth every penny. I do admit, it can give a false lock with only 2 tabs engaging in the socket but it is fairly obvious it's not seated properly. Also I bought the adhesive lock plate as they didn't offer the case for my phone model. The 3M adhesive is so strong it will forever be part of my phone case and hasn't degraded even through 5C to 35C days and riding in the sun and rain. Vibrations haven't been an issue even without the damping part.
Thanks for your message. I agree - great value for money. Frequency incompatibility issues only affect certain bikes with certain phones and even then, the chances are small. The voice of social media, can distort the truth. Still, good to see Quad Lock and SP Connect developing products to counter this.
Thanks for your comment! I was a bit worried if the 3M will hold onto my phone's case. You cleared my doubts. I just hope it also works while offroading.
Thanks so much for this review! Finally someone who clearly shows the differences between Quad Lock and SP Connect, with the important one for me: portrait and landscape capability!
Hi Danny, Glad it was helpful! Yes, Quad Lock portrait and landscape - no mechanism and no tools required; SP Connect, portrait OR landscape (Allen key required) - with moving mechanism in phone case.
Have been using SP connect for years now. Have been driving over 250km p/h and never lost a phone. Also works great. With one hand connecting and dismounting. Perfect. Also works with GoPro accessoires! Which is a big plus!
Hi Yer - thanks for your comment. Yes, the SP Connect is a very versatile kit with plenty of options available. It's robust and the only one reviewed which uses aircraft-grade aluminium. I must admit, the SP Connect is easier to mount/dismount than QuadLock which can be a little fiddly to locate but does offer the benefit of landscape/portrait while on the move.
I think for me being on a CBT and trying to save for my full A licence that Oxford is great, I love the rubber to help with vibrations as well, as well I never use a case for my phone so I could just buy a cheap one to stick the back on to. I’ve been looking for weeks for a mount but just can’t spend the money to get a quad lock. I’m so glad you reviewed the Oxford one. Thank you.
Also a Brightonian here! Just bought a Quadlock for my GS as they now offer an anti-vibration damper. Apparently without it, a lot of the cameras stability motors die.
Hey fellow Brightonian - well even though I do just live along the coast. 😁 Yes there are frequency/vibration incompatibility issues but appears to only be affected by engines of certain motorcycles and particular models of smart phone; it can damage the camera stability feature. Regardless of mount used, it is only an extension to the handlebar so likely the phone could be damaged without something in place to suppress the vibrations. Quad Lock has been proactive to invest in R&D to develop a vibration dampener to stop vibrations from reaching the phone. It was released in September 2020. Even without a Vibration Dampener, my brother, a good friend and I have been using our iPhone 11 Pros riding KTM and Triumph without issues but we each bought one anyway for peace of mind. £15 is a small price to pay. Thanks for your comment Sam. 👍🏼
The problem is that the vibrations from the engines can damage the OIS (optical image stabilization) mechanism on the phones. OIS is only present on high end phones. So, no worries on cheaper phones.
i have a quad lock knock off from amazon, came with the vibration damper all for 16 quid, i just replaced the adhesive on the universal phone adapter with gorilla 3m adhesive and it's solid as a rock
Thanks indeed, you just cleared the sp out off the way for me. It's probably gonna be a quad lock. Good video, simple, straightforward yet very informative and likable.
Hi Bravery Default. Glad I could help! Most of my biking buddies who use mounts use Quad Lock - no additional tools required with portrait and landscape options being available while on the move. That said other riders who use SP Connect had completely valid reasons too.
Really like your video here. Very detail comparison, just what I need, I'm think to get quad lock or SP but I think I make my desision. And also giving a like because you ride a KTM, similar to what I'm riding and thinking to put the phone mount on.
Thanks for the like too. V-Twins on a KTM are very vibey. While SP Connect and Quad Lock offer anti-vibration features, it is sure to vastly reduce issues with the phone. It's a personal choice and hopefully my vid helped you to make that decision. So, which did you go for?
It's not the 'wobbling' that affects viewing. That's all good. It's the higher frequency engine vibrations resonating through the frame and handlebars that can affect the sensitive image stabilisation features found in some later smartphones that's can be the main issue - hence vibration dampers.
Thanks for dropping me a line. It was a no brainer for me and glad it helped you with a decision. The QuadLock is a great bit of kit and even more so now that they have the vibration damper.
You're welcome. With all the promo SP Connect did last year, not once did they mention the 'key'. QuadLock is simple, robust and well-priced. Even more reassured now that it has a vibration dampener.
Thanks for your comment. I love my QuadLock set up. Confident using it with my iPhone. Sorry to hear they don't seem to have a case. Maybe drop them a line direct to see which version could be compatible.
HI Gary. Thanks for your comment. The majority of my biking buddies using mounts have Quad Lock. Simple, versatile and good value. A few use SP Connect and they too are happy with their purchase. It's all about user preference and if I was able to shed some light to assist your decision, then I'm glad I was able to help. Did you buy one? My wife now has the Chinese Cheapie attached to her exercise bike. ;)
The downside to Quadlock is the price. At the time of this post, it’s over $130, for me to have the setup with the anti vibration thing. That seems a bit excessive for a little piece of plastic and a phone case. Let’s be honest here, that’s .50 of plastic and the only reason it cost that much is they beat everyone to market and are charging a premium to keep and elevate the brand. I’m sure it’s good, but not almost $150 good.
Hi, M. P. Thank you for your comment. I appreciate it. I'm sure many would agree with you; however, I see Quad Lock as good value for money. To buy the Quad Lock mount, phone case, and vibration dampener in the UK is just under £70. It is a well-designed piece of plastic that is easy to use, simple, safe, secure, strong and reliable. The research, design and development, using high-grade materials manufactured to deliver a quality product to serve a purpose and protect your device from damaging engine vibrations, speaks volumes in the vast quantities sold worldwide. Yes, there are cheaper alternatives, but you get what you pay for. At the end of the day, it's all down to personal choice and budgets, and I highlighted just a few of what is available. For me, I would rather spend a little more on a proven quality product which I still use today, than spend £1000 replacing a damaged iPhone.
@@o75uk Mmm whilst that maybe true, have you seen the chinese copy of quad lock, myself and my son found the best way to do it, was get the amazon £10 mount, but whatever you do don't use the adhesive they supply to mount the phone pad, instead substitute a 3M vhb pad, my son used the cheap amazon mount with the actual quad lock phone case for the s23, done this way saves you two thirds of the quad lock cost, and before anyone say that those mounts are shit, two guys tested the cheap one against the actual quad lock, going as far as putting rope around the case while mounted on the bike and pulled with all his weight, the conclusion was only the cheap adhesive was weak, replace that and the cheaper mount was just as strong as the three times more expensive quad lock

Hi Daniel, thanks for watching and appreciated. Good question which I will gladly answer. The vibrations don't affect visual usability when looking at the screen - it's how engine vibrations could affect sensitive image stabilisation features found in current smartphones. This has been a huge concern for smartphone users considering which mount to use with their motorcycles. SP Connect and Quad Lock have been pro-active to develop anti-vibration products to dampen harmful frequencies that resonate from certain engines through the frame and handlebars which could ultimately damage the sensitive image stabilisation functionality.
