Repair My Snare #3 // A Couple of Rogers Dynasonics
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 тра 2021
- Ive been hanging onto these Rogers Dynasonics for awhile now and its time to repair them! The 14"x6.5" only had some cosmetic damage on the shell and hardware. I removed the dent from the shell and replaced the damaged hardware with parts from a Rogers SuperTen (chrome over steel). The 14"x5" also had a dent and a REALLY messed up batter side hoop. While I was at it, I added a fresh snare rail and correct bottom hoop. Which one did you like the best? The Rogers Dynasonic is a classic chrome over brass snare drum that is a great drum for any sound! I also had to break out the Tama Superstar for this one 😎

Repair My Snare #3 // A Couple of Rogers Dynasonics
Which one did you like better?
the chrome colored one
Tough call! I like the look of the 6.5 more, but I think I prefer the sound of the 5
14x6.5 wet fat
Neither 😄
On that track I liked the 6.5
You know something big is coming when David says he’s working on “a special project”
I was literally just looking at your channel, trying to find a video I haven’t seen yet and then BOOM!!! One appears!
Damn, repair projects are so satisfying to watch!
My bearded brother, you made our morning so much better
Wow both of those snares sound incredible
I have a Rogers Dynasonic 5 x 14" COB snare drum. It is a great drum but difficult to tune properly..they have a very narrow 'sweet spot'. Mine is approximate 1970 manufacture early Fullerton with script shell badge. The snare rail concept is great but the secret is not to tension the snare wires too tight and adjust the rails so that they just 'kiss' the reso head.
I brought my (new to me) dynasonic to a gig…big mistake. Lots of finicky adjusting of snares and a narrow sweet spot like you said. But once I spend some time with it I know it will be a truly great snare
People out here really simping for that 5 huh? They both sound good, but for this track the 6.5 really fits the mood.
Beautiful, great snares, Steve
that sound test put me in the end credits of an Adam Sandler movie
Like that thud sound…nice work sir!
That 14 x 6.5 is THE secret sauce! 🔥
The 'Rim Extender 8000' bit is hilarious! 🤣🤣🤣 🤣
That rim expander 8000 is genius! I have a slightly warped ludwig snare hoop that's finally going to get straightened.
I love them both.
I like the rim expander 2000 soundtrack 😂
Yup.
Rim expander 8000. Take my money
I have played a 71 Rogers powertone COB 14x5 for 40+ years now, but back in the day I briefly had a dyno. I was young, nobody had ever really explained the 'WTF?' of the snare bridge to me, so I never really got it set up right and had better results with a conventional snare setup.
14x6.5 by far the best!
Wow! ...that 6.5 is EXACTLY what those songs sounded like. For a minute I thought I was in middle school again lol
The huge one! I have built a 14x9.5 stave snare from pine and it is a disco and rock ballad beast!
Love u David! I was looking forward to seeing you doing your stuff with the Dyna! Thank you! Greets from Argentina! Te mando un abrazo grande!
playing some jams, nice! both snares sound great.
That is not don't stop . It was somebodies baby . Steve Smith. straight up monster .
Cool set up in the basement.🥁
I’d love to see you make a drum set from plastic 5 gallon buckets. One inch hole in the bottom for air porting and just get that same bucket in different diameters for the toms. Would be interesting.
Liked for the track at the end, awesome drumming
both snares sound amazings and looks pretty well
I like the 5" a little better. I'm rebuilding a 6.5 now. Maybe it will come out as good as yours!
Waiting for that special project, Dav!
"Low, thuddy, and wet" Have you been viewing my tinder profile? Love the pop of the smaller Rogers. The 6.5 sounds good too, but I would have to tighten the top head more, IMO.
I used to prefer piccolos, but nowadays I love a deep snare cranked all the way up.
I like the 6.5 best
The 14x6.5 is suhweet. Definitely the right sound for the song.
Would like to hear the 6-1/2 tuned a little higher, as it might rival the 5, which barely edges it out.
Foe snares with little or no snare beds,Fat Cat 14"x 20 Strand Snappy Snares w/Pitch and Remo zero collar snare side head
Without the snare rail, a #Rogers #Dynasonic is just another snare drum...
With the snare rail, it is otherworldly...
Without the snare frame,it wont work,i tried using normal snare wires but they buzz like crazy. Its because there is no snare bed to pull the snares into. Also i had the snare tensioner fall off during a show(its just pressed on ) and it put me off the drum.
you are a doctor of drums
Great Video! That Rogers sounds 70s groovy. Luv it. For lug screw cleanup I use NeverDull magic wadding, found at ACE. It removes rust and cleans fast!
Very good restoration. However, I suggest you use lemon juice for cleaning oxid of the screws. Try and you´ll see the good results.
The 6.5 slays!
Hi from Singapore 🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬🥁🥁🥁
6.5X14 is killer
Before liking this I’ll say I love 6.5x14
Hi David your vids are the best
You should do a comparison between Remo pinstripe (Expensive) vs Remo Encore pinstripe (Affordable)
I have a little piece of leather
It'll work even better
***starts beatboxing***
Awesome stuff! I have a dyna that I need to restore, you just gave me the push to get around to it! BTW the 6,5 is perfect but the 5" needs to go higher, now it has an unleasant pop to it. That's of course just my opinion =)
I think I like the smaller one. 5" gets my vote.
I have a rogers set. My 16" floor tom has a bass drum tom mount on the side that holds three cymbals.
Me gusta más el de 14 x 5 en cuanto al sonido, será por el snare wires original que suena genial?
The 6.5 sounds great with that head/tuning/muffling combination.
I wish a lot of folks who do these videos would turn off the snares, turn the drum on it's side, muffle one head with their hand and tap the opposite head and tell us what note it is.
Next, do the same thing on the other side/head.
The smaller drum sounds very good as well.
I'm partial to deeper drums.
I prefer the 5". The 6.5" sounds very Alex Van Halen to me.
Interesting! The 6.5"s sound wasn't for me either, but the 5" actually reminds *me* a lot of AVH! 😀
Al has had many sounds over the years, and most of them were just fine 😂
@@Pure_KodiakWILD_Power - On top of that, he had always been instantly recognisable by his sound! 😀
@@mightyV444 indeed, his sound does usually have a nice middy oldschool thud to it.... 🤔 now I'm in the mood to hear some early VanHalen 😂 thanks, folks.
You're welcome, @@Pure_KodiakWILD_Power! 😀 And in case you've ever wondered how to achieve that snare sound: ua-cam.com/video/crDns9teyzk/v-deo.html 🙂
I like the 6.5. I wonder how it would sound tune medium high? Also, what kind of difference the sound bar at the bottom would make. I recorded on a 6 ply ludwig kit with a 5.5 dynasonic and that kit ripped but usually that extra 1 of depth can drastically change the sound and feel.
I had a 14x6.5 dynasonic that I got for $300 and it was legit dropped on 4 of the lugs. Major denting, but the hardware, hoops, and snare wires were mint. So after $50 in hammers, I popped the dents right out and sold it for $725 shipped. I really didn’t like the sound that much, but I’m a shallow snare fan.
Would love to see you nickel plate a snare you restore. Watch a lot of restoration vids...seems like something you could pull off...
All strainers shall be known as Deliquifiers from this day forth.
6.5" for this song :)
I prefer the cut and bark of the 5" drum.
The 6in sounds like a modern worship snare
Great video!
I have late 60’s oval badge dyna and also the early or mid 70’s big R. Is there much of a difference in the build quality of these? When I weight them the oval badge is slightly heavier. Is this most likely explained by hoop differences?
Also how much different sound wise are 60’a version of super 10 and cob LM400 Supra?
Thanks again!
I like the 5” better.
6.5
The 5" x 14" kinda sounds like the snare tone from Fugazi's End Hits, only a bit lower.
DIOS quiero un snare asi !
Great repairs! Both drums need to be properly tuned, however.
Can't stand the 6.5 - but the 5 is EXACTLY how I like them(tone-wise; prefer a higher tuning, but the tone is killer)!
Yo your next project should be a pancake snare!!
How do you get your snares to sound so good?! I know you use the earthworks condenser mics but is it just room or eq?
roger roger
Would you let me know where you found that cylinder to beat the dent out?
I'm actually doing a similar project on my end and that'd be immensely helpful man!
Hey David, could we have a canned food drum set video?
I'm watching at 1.5x speed and that Rim Expander 8,000 theme rips shit at that speed 🏃♂️🤘
Hi rdavidr, you mentioned ultrasonic cleaner in the 3:00 mark. Is there a video on the ultrasonic cleaner you made? or a link to it would be great. Thanks!
Smaller one...I love those closest to a piccolo!
Love love LOVE the sound of the 14x6.5. How much do you want for it? :-)
PDR on a snare!
I'm searching high and low for the snare wires which fit on a 60s Ludwig Supersensitive. Around 69 or so they swapped to one that is pretty easy to find all over, Puresound made both but now I can't find the goofy one for the older model. The snare wires have T-shaped ends on the Puresound one, it's out of stock on the few sites that have it. If anyone has any idea about where some might be, please let me know! I'm trying to grab 2 maybe even 3 at this point lol
i want one
Okay wait, so if you have a 10 lug snare and buy the bottom hoop and rail system for a dynasonic you can put it on any drum right?
ok. Don't shoot me.
But I have always felt that tuning shorter snares lower and deeper snares higher sounded better. I find the shallower drum gives more of a splat and controls the low end. While tuning a deeper snare higher gives more body to the higher tuning. I have a 14X8 maple snare that sound insane tuned high. There's so much body and low end to the crack. I used to have a 14X5 i loved tuned low because it got a much better low tuning sound.
Hey david, how would you feel about swapping that big ass snare for a Big r bass drum and a Big r Tom Tom both in really good condition?
I meant to say Big r snare for a Big r bass drum and Big r Tom Tom, both in really good condition.
What kind of ribbon do you use on your snares?
The 5", all day long.
The 6.5 sounds like an 90's pop/rock sample snare cloned it self, f$#%ed the clone and that's the result. Stuff of nightmares.
Is ithis drum shop n Australia and where is shop in Sydney or where
is the smaller snare for sale?
Any body know what that laser gun looking mic is? I've seen it in a few of David's videos and have no clue what it is!
I think it’s an Earthworks SR20
I got a crazy Idea but I think it could work cut he efx pattern in to an oriental China
I have a 6 1/2 Rogers Dyna...what do you suggest I use to clean and polish the shell. I have used 0000 steel wool to remove some rust
The 6.5 sounds like every Poison song or 80s rock.
Too "phat" for my taste.
The 5 sounds better however I would prefer snares that sound like gunshots.
If only you could get both the crack of the 5 and the thump of the 6.5
Hello there.
I am the "buddy". Give me the cheese.
🧀
Are you interested in selling or trading the 6.5?
Rogers gang, what’s your kit? 👇
6.5 is awesome wet fat!
Could you do a whole video without any drum stuff?
hi
Would you be interested in selling your 14x6.5 roger snare?
Sorry, but when you switched from the 6.5 to the 5, I almost gagged... On its own it sounds fine, but comparing the two back to back... YIKES
first
Not a fan of the fat snare sound either
