  • Hello everyone. Here's a vid on topic for which I have received many requests asking me to make an instructional video. LOL! HOW DO YOU SET UP THE DYNASONIC SNARE RAIL? IN this video I discuss how to remove the Dyna-Sonic snare rail, install new wires, and re-install the snare rail. The re-installation section has details specific to HOW to setup a Dyna-Sonic snare rail so it sounds good, and gives the drummer the legendary snare sensitivity for which the Dyna-Sonic is famous. Includes string measurements that will help greatly in setting this drum up properly. I hope this helps, as I have used this method to set up many a Dyna, and it has always worked.

      First of all thank you for watching.🤘🏻 Secondly if you use the string measurements from the video that should give you a great starting point to get the wires right. I’ve used the measurements on 3 other Dyna setups, and the drum setup quite easily. Finally, you can get new wires that fit your frame direct from Rogers/Big Bang.

    I'm having a hard time with a couple of mine. I don't think the rail was ever set right and I get sympathetic buzz and have to choke it sometimes, so I'm not starting from the same good state. It would be really cool to see this same video but starting completely from scratch without the snare side head leveled, snare rail loose never setup, etc.

    • @KennySharretts
      @KennySharretts  3 роки тому +1

      Odds are it’s a matter of finding balance between the rail strainer, and the wire tension. Try tightening up your bottom head to tight, but not mega tight. The head should sing when tapped. Then try the string measurements in the video to set up your rail. I do have a video coming out soon that covers installing the Reso head from scratch. Thank you so much for watching.

    • @eddieavakian
      @eddieavakian 2 роки тому

      FYI. I just learned that the old Dynas that use the exact same rail used to have an elastic string mounted to them in addition to the standard strings. That elastic string was used to keep the snare off the head when in the off position. I don’t why the new ones don’t come w that but the rail has the holes for it. You should look into that to solve your problem. FYI I had the same problem but the problem went away when I changed my heads.

  • @tadhg3

    Great video!! I hope you can help me. I have a Dyna sonic 14x5 and I like the snares very tight for crisp ghost notes.
    I can only get that crispness by having the rail extremely close to the snare head, and I've managed to get that crispness by tugging and securing the strings quite tightly on both ends
    My problem is that when I turn the snares off the snares always slightly buzz as they're too close to the head!! I lowered the opposite side, but then when I engage the snares, the lowered side barely touches. HELP!!
    The sensitivity on these drums is unmatched, but I really feel I'm doing something wrong. I really enjoyed your video, you're really funny

    • @KennySharretts
      @KennySharretts  3 роки тому

      thank you so much for the kind words. This drum can be a challenge to set up so a sense of humor is a must. When this drum was sent to me I it was set up as it is at the Rogers Shop. So I took the measurements before I put on a new bottom head, and installed new wires. I've set up 4 Dynas since this vid, and it's worked for all of them. This method can leave it A TOUCH closer to the head than I like so I encountered the same issue at first. I had to have the tension dial set exactly where it was when I made the marks. I like the frame snug as well. The frame should look a bit tilted when disengaged with the tensioner side lower than the butt plate side. Have you tried these measurements?

    • @eddieavakian
      @eddieavakian 2 роки тому

      Did you ever get this issue resolved? I just a 5 x 15 and it’s doing the same thing. If you got it resolved please let me know how you did it. Thanks

    • @tadhg3
      @tadhg3 2 роки тому +1

      @@eddieavakian Hello mate. I never got it solved, I just kept tinkering until it was the best it could be. I can only play with snares off very lightly. Fair trade off for those crispy ghosties. Let me know if you find a solution! I also unscrewed the little plates on the bottom hoop either side of the snare bed.
      My crappy method is to have the drum mounted on the stand, then sit underneath and balance the rail by eye, and keep experimenting. There's definitely a sweet spot. I also recommend getting the pure sound snare wires for dynasonic. The stock rogers one will start snapping wires when you crank the tension.
      Sorry to not be more help!

      @@tadhg3 so I put the stainer dial halfway and then loosened the butt plate stings so the rails clears the drum a little more than before. Then I found a good balance for the strainer tension. So far this is working but you need to find the sweet spot.

    An absurdly and unnecessarily complicated, archaic piece of technology. I still can’t believe they brought this back. In fact, I can’t believe they ever made it to begin with. Those old Dynas have a great sound, but there is no way a standard snare bed and snare wire system would change that sound a bit. The tone comes from the drum, not from this bulky piece of hardware.

    • @KennySharretts
      @KennySharretts  Рік тому

      While I do not disagree that the fundamental source of the Dyna-Sonic’s legendary sound is the shell (just listen to a Re-Issued wood Super Ten) , there is an undeniable sweetness to the sound of a Dyna because of that “archaic” rail. They can be a challenging to set perfectly, but when you do? Pure, rich, buttery, pillowy, snare greatness. Both in sound, and playability. When I first got my re-issue, I played about 50 gigs in a row where all the sound engineers for those gigs walked up after the first set, and all said the same thing : “ What kind of snare is that? That’s the best sounding snare I’ve ever mixed”. With that being said, if you love the tone of these drums, but don’t want to mess with the rail check out the re-issued Super Ten’s. They are amazing!
