I can't read 10 pages before sleeping, i get hooked by a good story way more than by doom-scrolling. Instead of another 1-2hours it's suddenly 7am the book is done and the sun is (almost) back
I'm the exact same way! As a child I would read literally all day if left to my own devices. Which in the summertime when I wasn't in school, I was. I don't have any advice for how to fix it. Not only do I not want to stop doing something fun, but it kicks my brain into high-drive thinking mode so it winds me up instead of winding me down. The only thing I've noticed is that it's often easier for me to stop in the middle of a chapter than at a chapter break, but that mostly works if I need to stop and go somewhere, rather than stop and go to sleep
Same for me. I find it much easier to get sleepy if I play an easy/repetitive game on my phone than if I read a book. I do make sure to have my screen brightness set to as low as possible and I have an app that ads a red filter to it. For reading, it would have to be something really boring. One thing I want to try is the book "Nothing Much Happens" which is made for this purpose. It also comes as a free podcast that you can listen to when going to bed.
I feel like pocket journaling has an even lower barrier to entry! I used to info-dump on my friends over text a lot, so I decided to use this tiny journal that I could take anywhere as a way to settle my thoughts and pretend-text all my bubbling ideas and feelings. The smallness of it makes it feel easier to use than a full-sized journal somehow
I just also want to put this in here before I forget I noticed you have headphones when you are walking your dogs so you're already probably listening to something, but I found this app called 'The Walk' where basically it's an interactive story and the more you walk the more you can unlock the story. I found this to be super helpful because the story is kind of suspenseful, so my heart rate gets up so I get more exercise, but also it keeps me walking because I want to know what's going to happen next. Just something helpful I found and wanted to share, have a great day
I believe it's made by the same people as Zombies Run. I've used that before but never got very far because something always seemed to happen, usually an injury that stopped me running for a while
@@harmonicaveronica Yes I've also tried zombie run before but I'm not much of a runner and/or got injuries from running, but The Walk it's more time based: if you run a mile or walk a mile it most likely will give you the same amount of story, which I found super helpful on days when I just want to take a light stroll 👍

For movement, I've actually found a park near my apartment that almost no one goes to. When i'm stuck in my room, sitting and thinking, i'll go do the same thing but on the swing set! It's a bit childish but it's an approachable way to get myself outside and moving, and it really improves my mood.
If you struggle to journal my best tip is stop trying to sound coherent 😋 I used to try to write nice eloquent sentences but my brain moves faster than that so I'd feel frustrated Now I journal like this: - frustrated, work boring, understimulated, discuss with manager re: groups idea - struggling abt boundaries w. Mum, brainstorm w. friends at dinner Sat - new dishes system working! Amazing!!! Trust the process! Expand to other tasks? I hope someone can find this helpful! ☺️
Hella good tips, and very similar to what I do to kind of reset taking care of myself. For me the lazy feeling is a sign that my depression is flaring up. I've been trying to use it as a notice from my body that says "hey! Are you being your genuine self? Are you not holding your own boundaries and feeling bad as a result? Where am I not doing the best job taking care of myself?" And going through this type of checklist is a good place to start when that kind of introspection feels like an impossible chore.
HACK for the sunrise alarm clock cause ive found they are real expensive to get a new one. especially one that's bright. buy one of those vacation outlet timers for lamps. they are like $20 or less and you can program them to go off in really customizable ways. plug a lamp into it and bam. its more jarring than a sunrise alarm because its either on or off but i set my audio alarm to go off a couple minutes after the light so i dont notice. but if you are a light sleeper it might hit like headlights lol.
You could do a lamp with a multi level bulb so when it turns on it’s at level one, but when you’re more awake you can set it to a higher level of light manually.
Thank you for this! It is so hard because all of the ADHD therapy etc is trying to say no you aren't actually lazy even though you have been told that your whole life, but maybe sometimes, I am. Add depression on to that and sometimes I just have no freaking idea what I am.
4:18 what helped me with hydrating was buying a 64oz bottle. I fill it up when I wash my face (which I force myself to do before taking my meds) and then I just carry it around the house with me. For me, the act of going to get the water is the barrier. If it's *all* already there, I just. drink it. Also. I second the sunrise alarm clock AND I use the auto dimming function so that I read in bed until the light is too dim.

I realized that I hate working out around anyone, so I started going to the gym late at night. There’s a gym in my building, so it’s a lot easier, and it’s helped me be so much less anxious to go workout. I also mainly do exercises that I like with one or two that I don’t like as much but might need. I mainly jump rope because I’m trying to focus on increasing cardio, and it’s my favorite form of cardio. Finding exercises that I like to do has also really helped me with exercising regularly!
This makes me so happy knowing that I instinctively do a lot of these tips. It makes me feel like I’m doing something correctly for once in trying to help myself
I make it a part of my nighttime routine to actually turn off my phone by 10.. shockingly the tablet I use Ebook/audiobooks never distracts me.. always on do not disturb.

Walking works for me, that includes outdoor walks and UA-cam walking workouts like Grow with Jo, who has some 20 minute walks and Walk at Home Leslie Sansone- she has a quick 5 minute 500 step walk. Some ideas from some other UA-cam channels that I seen are: Diane in Denmark in her Friday videos is giving 4 self-care assignments to choose from like try a new recipe or listen to music. Mariane Cresp has a video called how to use a self-care/break list talking about three types of breaks. Jashii Corrin on her channel talked about self-care bingo and having a low-bar and high bar task. I also seen where Gretchen Rubin mentioned the four quarters method of dividing your day into four time blocks like morning, day, afternoon, and night.
I would love to read 10 pages before bed! Unfortunately, I enjoy reading too much and any time I've tried it has backfired on me, badly. If I pick up a book at 9pm, I will end up going to sleep at 1am, not 9:30. But maybe I just need to get really into short stories and poetry
I am also into bubble water so I bought an old soda stream with fill bottles and a tank of food grade CO2 from a welding business and then a connection hardware kit on Amazon (cheap and easy) and then I realized I needed a large size wrench so I bought one to connect it…anyway seemingly endless bubble water now This is all way easier than you might think. I’m not someone especially good at this type of stuff. It was just a matter of getting the stuff and hooking it up. Note: put add ons like sweetener into fizzy bottle AFTER you carbonate the water. You can buy flavors online too but I don’t use soda stream brand. I use food flavors that chefs use. I use LorAnn Oils but lots of others exist. Just a few drops and I have non sweet apple fizzy. Anyway….😅 yes to water!
Sometimes I speak out loud to Future Me and sometimes I thank Past Me for leaving that out loud note as a reminder. And I love fountain pens. I was half expecting to see you write with one. I can highly reccomend a TWSBI Eco, or a Lamy Vista. Ok, geek-out over.

What a great video 🎉 I think its also important to note that getting out of your lazy ers, doesnt mean never having a lazy or low energy day again, or that you're not allowed to rest or play on your phone or whatever. No. It's about restoring balance in your life. Balance means less lazy more doey, but you dont need to beat yourself up when you're low energy and just want to lay on the couch all day. So long as those days are coming less often, you're on the right track. Now i have like one lazy day a fortnight and i think that's very healthy
tip for staying asleep: sleepy girl mocktails! i don’t like carbonation so i just put a scoop of berry-flavored magnesium powder in a glass of tart cherry juice, and while it doesn’t make me tired, it does keep me asleep once i fall asleep

hydration product recommendation: cirkul water bottles!!!! these have been a lifesaver for me! the way they work is you purchase separate filters that have different flavors that last a certain amount of fluid ounces (depending on how high you put the flavor), and the water bottle has a specific lid so you can attach the flavor filter. they have so many good flavors (lots of different fruity stuff and lemonades), and it makes drinking water so much easier!!
I have cirkul but I honestly can't stand the after taste of the Sucralose and stevia. I wish they had a pure cane sugar option or something. Even the sugar free is meh
I've created a sleep mode on my phone, so when I get up from the couch to go to bed I put on sleep mode, it blocks all the apps except like, the weather and my calendar so I can see what I've got coming up tomorrow. Sleep mode also plays the sleepy music and starts a 10 minute timer, which often challenges me to get ready for bed. Even if I'm not ready in 10 minutes, I've still gotten started. I also blocked Instagram on my phone on weekdays before noon. Not a perfect system, since I wind up scrolling elsewhere, but a good reminder every time I try to use it and it boots me out.
HAHA 😘I find changing my room keeps my motivation going. So if I am writing an essay in my living room and am getting bored, Ill go finish the essay in bed. Literally nothing else changes but somehow the location change makes it feel like its a whole new task. Also, just to say, reward based motivation is extrinsic motivation not intrinsic 😉
I try to mentally time block my schedule but it's so stressful because I think everything takes way less time than it actually does and then I disappoint myself

I love her channel so much! Im realizing that a lot of the self-help genre is targeted at neurotypical people, so having someone with similar struggles to me give advice feels so good and a lot more helpful. Does anyone have recommendations for similar channels? Like other self help channels for people with ADHD and/or low support needs autism?
I use a app block, because I can't trust my self control 😅 I always turn it on before bed, great way for me to not start my day on sosial media or other websites I click in and out for dopamin hit... and most days out of sight out of mind and I forget about those apps. I also use a to do app to help me prep for the day and in general remind me or help me with rutine. I have build diffrent rutines like morning, night, low energy days and things I can do or get back to to feel better when I'm in a rut/burn out.
The Finance Date Night has inspired me to have a Planning & Organization Date Night... I love watching coaching videos like yours but implementation of these tools and habits tends to rely on luck 😅 Gonna make a date to get organized and get the damn work done to make this info accessible when needed!!
how can i implement time blocking if I hate using online calendars? i prefer handwritten schedules, and I feel like my planner doesn't have enough space. I've tried w a big whiteboard, but it stresses me out even more (great vid btw)
This feels like neurotypical advice ngl. My parents don't even do half of this & are NTs. But definitely manage the open/closing shifts perfectly every day 🙄 This is all also, A LOT OF WORK.
Any tips on how to keep your water bottle clean? Cause pretty much all of the nice water bottles say you have to hand wash them, and it always feels like a huge hurdle to me. Everything else I just put in the dishwater. It's hard to remember to hand wash and hard to motivate myself to do. So basically, is there a water bottle out there that is completely dishwasher safe, and if not, what are some tips to remember/motivate myself to hand wash?
I've mastered this one so here's my pro tips: 1: you don't have to wash it that often, PROVIDED: 1a. You only use it for water (or give it a quick rinse when you finish your non-water drink. This is also a good time to fill with plain water. So personally I drink a Dr pepper out of my little straw cup thing as my morning caffeine, then rinse and fill with water to sip on) 1b. You let it dry out regularly. I use my cup all day, then give it a very quick rinse and leave it upside down to dry on the dish rack overnight. (If you need a nighttime water bottle, get a separate one, and do the same thing but it dries over the day. Basically alternate water bottle shifts.) It's the sitting around with trapped stagnant water and moisture that makes water bottles start to smell and taste funky. With these two things, you really only need to wash it with soap every week or even every other week. 2: Get a simple to clean water bottle. Dishwasher safe is obviously ideal, but try to find something without lots of cracks and crevices and parts that will need to be cleaned. For me I have a cup with a lid that has a straw hole. The straws are dishwasher safe, so now I'm just down to a simple cup and a lid. Two parts, minimal crevices, very quick. 2a: that being said, make sure you'll use it. I use a cup that has an exposed straw at all times because it removes any extra steps of unscrewing the lid or things like that. If you need a flip up straw so you'll use it, then it's worth the extra cleaning. No sense in a simple screw top bottle if you won't frequently use it. 3: Set a routine for washing. I wash mine with soap every Saturday. It is one of my Saturday chores. Again I could probably do it every other week, but every Saturday keeps me in the routine.
Oops that got long lol. Just remembered to add: disassemble your bottle before drying, or moisture will get stuck in between parts and it won't actually dry. For my siblings bottle this means unscrew the lid, take the straw out, and take the little chewy sip top part out. Quick rinse then dry. So that's another pro of simple bottles, but it's still up to personal use and preference. Good luck!!

Sure! Here are some of mine: -trash, dishes, laundry go back to their places (ideally wash the dishes, but this is optional on more difficult days) - seek and destroy! -make a list for the next day (I’m a handwritten kinda gal), review upcoming appointments in my calendar -set up coffee for the morning It makes such a difference to wake up to a clean space and just press a button for coffee. Setting a timer helps get me going and it’s so rewarding because 99% of the time, that task takes less time than I think it will. Hope that helps!

Did anyone else’s mom always say something like, “you’d be so smart if you’d just learn how to use your brain.”? Also, soda stream . . . I add a tablespoon or so of brown sugar (dissolve it in an ounce or two of plain cold water before pouring it in or you’ll have an explosion). It’s delicious.
I love carbonated water. The bubbles remind me that it’s still there . Because I will drink the first sips but the water begins to evaporate from my senses m😂
Be careful with tea! Some types of tea and how much you drink can actually be dehydrating as caffeine is a diuretic. I didn't know this until I experienced it myself. I became so dehydrated and my doctor informed me it is because of all the tea I drink lol. So drink in moderation!
Welp I'm burnt-out my 4yr old is getting tested but she has SEVERE ADD, or something I'm so exhausted, I can't do ANYTHING her+ audhd + work I have nothing left after that, these are awesome tips but I can't do anything for myself my kid won't let me..

Walking works for me, that includes outdoor walks and UA-cam walking workouts like Grow with Jo, who has some 20 minute walks and Walk at Home Leslie Sansone- she has a quick 5 minute 500 step walk. Some ideas from some other UA-cam channels that I seen are: Diane in Denmark in her Friday videos is giving 4 self-care assignments to choose from like try a new recipe or listen to music. Mariane Cresp has a video called how to use a self-care/break list talking about three types of breaks. Jashii Corrin on her channel talked about self-care bingo and having a low-bar and high bar task. I also seen where Gretchen Rubin mentioned the four quarters method of dividing your day into four time blocks like morning, day, afternoon, and night.

I am also into bubble water so I bought an old soda stream with fill bottles and a tank of food grade CO2 from a welding business and then a connection hardware kit on Amazon (cheap and easy) and then I realized I needed a large size wrench so I bought one to connect it…anyway seemingly endless bubble water now
This is all way easier than you might think. I’m not someone especially good at this type of stuff. It was just a matter of getting the stuff and hooking it up. Note: put add ons like sweetener into fizzy bottle AFTER you carbonate the water. You can buy flavors online too but I don’t use soda stream brand. I use food flavors that chefs use. I use LorAnn Oils but lots of others exist. Just a few drops and I have non sweet apple fizzy. Anyway….😅 yes to water!

What a great video 🎉 I think its also important to note that getting out of your lazy ers, doesnt mean never having a lazy or low energy day again, or that you're not allowed to rest or play on your phone or whatever. No. It's about restoring balance in your life. Balance means less lazy more doey, but you dont need to beat yourself up when you're low energy and just want to lay on the couch all day. So long as those days are coming less often, you're on the right track. Now i have like one lazy day a fortnight and i think that's very healthy

hydration product recommendation: cirkul water bottles!!!! these have been a lifesaver for me! the way they work is you purchase separate filters that have different flavors that last a certain amount of fluid ounces (depending on how high you put the flavor), and the water bottle has a specific lid so you can attach the flavor filter. they have so many good flavors (lots of different fruity stuff and lemonades), and it makes drinking water so much easier!!
I have cirkul but I honestly can't stand the after taste of the Sucralose and stevia. I wish they had a pure cane sugar option or something. Even the sugar free is meh
I've created a sleep mode on my phone, so when I get up from the couch to go to bed I put on sleep mode, it blocks all the apps except like, the weather and my calendar so I can see what I've got coming up tomorrow. Sleep mode also plays the sleepy music and starts a 10 minute timer, which often challenges me to get ready for bed. Even if I'm not ready in 10 minutes, I've still gotten started. I also blocked Instagram on my phone on weekdays before noon. Not a perfect system, since I wind up scrolling elsewhere, but a good reminder every time I try to use it and it boots me out.

I use a app block, because I can't trust my self control 😅 I always turn it on before bed, great way for me to not start my day on sosial media or other websites I click in and out for dopamin hit... and most days out of sight out of mind and I forget about those apps.
I also use a to do app to help me prep for the day and in general remind me or help me with rutine. I have build diffrent rutines like morning, night, low energy days and things I can do or get back to to feel better when I'm in a rut/burn out.

Any tips on how to keep your water bottle clean? Cause pretty much all of the nice water bottles say you have to hand wash them, and it always feels like a huge hurdle to me. Everything else I just put in the dishwater. It's hard to remember to hand wash and hard to motivate myself to do. So basically, is there a water bottle out there that is completely dishwasher safe, and if not, what are some tips to remember/motivate myself to hand wash?
I've mastered this one so here's my pro tips:
1: you don't have to wash it that often, PROVIDED:
1a. You only use it for water (or give it a quick rinse when you finish your non-water drink. This is also a good time to fill with plain water. So personally I drink a Dr pepper out of my little straw cup thing as my morning caffeine, then rinse and fill with water to sip on)
1b. You let it dry out regularly. I use my cup all day, then give it a very quick rinse and leave it upside down to dry on the dish rack overnight. (If you need a nighttime water bottle, get a separate one, and do the same thing but it dries over the day. Basically alternate water bottle shifts.)
It's the sitting around with trapped stagnant water and moisture that makes water bottles start to smell and taste funky.
With these two things, you really only need to wash it with soap every week or even every other week.
2: Get a simple to clean water bottle. Dishwasher safe is obviously ideal, but try to find something without lots of cracks and crevices and parts that will need to be cleaned. For me I have a cup with a lid that has a straw hole. The straws are dishwasher safe, so now I'm just down to a simple cup and a lid. Two parts, minimal crevices, very quick.
2a: that being said, make sure you'll use it. I use a cup that has an exposed straw at all times because it removes any extra steps of unscrewing the lid or things like that. If you need a flip up straw so you'll use it, then it's worth the extra cleaning. No sense in a simple screw top bottle if you won't frequently use it.
3: Set a routine for washing. I wash mine with soap every Saturday. It is one of my Saturday chores. Again I could probably do it every other week, but every Saturday keeps me in the routine.
Oops that got long lol. Just remembered to add: disassemble your bottle before drying, or moisture will get stuck in between parts and it won't actually dry. For my siblings bottle this means unscrew the lid, take the straw out, and take the little chewy sip top part out. Quick rinse then dry. So that's another pro of simple bottles, but it's still up to personal use and preference. Good luck!!
Some bottles open in the middle, so you can put them in the dishwasher. I don't know how easy they are to find, though.

Sure! Here are some of mine:
-trash, dishes, laundry go back to their places (ideally wash the dishes, but this is optional on more difficult days) - seek and destroy!
-make a list for the next day (I’m a handwritten kinda gal), review upcoming appointments in my calendar
-set up coffee for the morning
It makes such a difference to wake up to a clean space and just press a button for coffee. Setting a timer helps get me going and it’s so rewarding because 99% of the time, that task takes less time than I think it will. Hope that helps!

Be careful with tea! Some types of tea and how much you drink can actually be dehydrating as caffeine is a diuretic. I didn't know this until I experienced it myself. I became so dehydrated and my doctor informed me it is because of all the tea I drink lol. So drink in moderation!
