    David Byrne did in fact use African musicians and the whole album is just as groovy.

    This is from their final album, " Naked" from 1988. Surprisingly a melodic song with striking harmonies featuring Kristy McColl and Johnny Marr from The Smiths using a 12 string guitar. Such great instrumentation making for a calypso sound. Made it to Number 79 in the UK and Numer 5 in the US. A song about nature reclaiming the land and the malls are covered with flowers. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and David. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

    Johnny Marr of The Smiths is playing the incredible lead guitar. The entire album, Naked, is a must listen. So many gems on it.

    Nice Choice. Such a odd and wonderful song that goes the reverse of where stories generally go. Missing modern society. Likely because we destroyed it. But also likely because David likes things to stay the same. Talking heads have so may songs about buildings and things being simple. Stupid flowers!....

    My favorite song from this album is " Mr. Jones!!"
    A precursor to Byrnes' Latin album... "Rei Momo!"

    Oh yeah, the reverse of the environmental situation. And great African foundation of the rhythm. Awesome.

    Pure bliss. Probably my favourite Talking Heads song.
    And what an amazing instrumental display of the colours of African music. It almost comes at you from more than just one sense, with brilliant hues and flavours of sound. So fantastic, I love it.

    I’ve always LOVED this song Harri! I think the concept would make a great sci-fi story.

    In Talking Heads I like Tina Weymouth who plays the bass guitar, later in 1981 she creates the Tom Tom Club with her husband Chris Frantz which was not a small success, Harry is waiting for a reaction to the Tom Tom Club, this is R&B, new wave , funk and indie rock, songs: Genius of Love, Wordy Rappinghood, Pleasure of Love, Call of the Wild, Don't Say No, Suboceana, Sunshine and Ecstasy, Kissin' Antonio. I recommend the song "Kissin' Antonio" for reaction, I really liked it.

    They were the leaders in going to Africa to learn poly-rhythmic music. I Zimbra is a great African tracts that they did a decade earlier.

      It's phenomenal. If Big Yellow Taxi ("they paved paradise and put up a parking lot") is how we're supposed to react to overdevelopment, this is the cynical rebuttal as to how we actually would (and obviously sarcastic).
      A masterpiece by a generally brilliant band.

    Got introduced to this song about a month ago. Can’t stop listening to it. Such a beautiful song. Love the meaning of it as well. Wish Talking Heads could update their official video for the world we live in today. Song definitely doesn’t get the air time it still deserves in 2023

    I don't think this is being sarcastic. It's a dystopian world were all the modern conveniences have gone. And he hates it.

    • @dcg4mn
      @dcg4mn 7 місяців тому

      Totally tongue in cheek. A humorous reply to Mitchell’s “Put Up a Parking Lot”
      Like his “Mr Jones” was a reply to Dylan’s nasty “Mr. Jones”

    • @debjorgo
      @debjorgo 7 місяців тому

      @@dcg4mn Of course he is flipping Joni's Big Yellow Taxi. And he can't be too serious. The world he is describing doesn't exist.

    I’ve always loved this song. I’ve had the CD for ages, but this particular video is the first time I’ve heard the guitars so clearly. Maybe I’ve got better headphones than I used to have, or maybe this has beed re-mastered. But I enjoyed this video thoroughly.

    Gorgeous right?
    Gotta hear more tracks off the Naked album they’re spectacular
    Btw they were exploring/fusing African influences and polyrhythms at least 6 year’s before Simon’s Graceland.

    Play more naked.
    "Mr. Jones" is coolsville, and "Cool Water" is deep darkenville.
    Very Graceland.

    I don't think it's _true_ sarcasm, but rather sung through a character who is (inadvertantly, by way of being horrified?) using sarcasm. It is definetely satire, though, and heavy on the irony.
