Great reaction 😊 That is def. their thing: joyful bubbly music + deep lyrics
Plenty more Talking Heads to come 👌🏻
Johnny Marr on the guitar on this track!!! A real pleasure to find them on your channel!
I didn't realize that - but damn, he was in high demand to guest on nearly every cool band's record. Thanks!
Sorry late to the party Rory but saw this one and am so glad you played this!!! David Byrne is a interesting lyricist indeed and I love the music arrangment with an african feel!!! 🔥🔥🔥❤❤❤ makes you wanna move and one off my favorite bands from the era...😊
Typical New Wave sound of the 80's my mother used to listen Talking Heads in her youth, oooh what memories, the music is nice different and unique, thanks Rory , Fantastic video👏🏻👏🏻👍👌👌
They only started out new wave and by their 4th -revolutionary -album Remain in Light they took off into countless genres beginning with African polyrhythms. The smartest most creative and FUN band through their final album Naked.
Brilliant song. In a certain way it is written backwards. Those who know the song will know what I mean.
I always saw it as directed meditation -- trying to bring about the vision
I do love this song and many of the songs on this album. At the time we were heavily into concerns about the rainforest, CFCs in aerosol spray cans, and of course climate change. That kind of gives you a bit of the landscape (pun intended) at the time. Here Talking Heads go back to their African rhythms and world music vibe of albums like Speaking in Tongues, and Remain in Light (but less complicated and more radio friendly - for better or worse). I did NOT know Marr played on this record, but once The Smiths broke he really was THE most in demand guest/session guitar player for bands as diverse as Siouxsie and the Banshees and Everything But the Girl. Steve Lillywhite produced - he produced every major indie band in the 80s.. or at least it feels like it. U2, Psychedelic Furs, Big Country, The Jam, XTC, Peter Gabriel, and on.. I didn't realize he was married to Kirsty MacColl - who also sings back up on this song. I LOVE the lyrics here - so clever - and the song is infectious and joyful considering it's actual subject matter. I want to go back in time- just for ONE day.. Love your channel - been watching for over a year.
I like this song (subtle, ironic) a lot more than the video (preachy, on the nose).
_Years ago, I was an angry young man and I'd pretend that I was a billboard_ is a great lyric.
You can't read the questions and not the answers 😱
Strange - I swore I remembered an entirely DIFFERENT music video - one where they travel across the land and nature pops up and eliminates the malls, restaurants, highways, etc. But I've now looked and I do NOT see any video like that. Am I completely misremembering or maybe they had two videos and took the second (I'll call it American version) out of circulation? Can anyone confirm or deny? LOL.
Mandala Effect... welcome to the new reality
Rory you’re one of my top fave reactors but ignore the texts read them later it’s distracting from a brilliant fun song.
Byrne totally purposely flipped it, it’s a humorous response to Joni Mitchell’s famous “put up a parking lot” 😉
similarly flipped is “Mr. Jones” (a pushback to Dylan’s sneering “Do you, Mr. Jones”) from the same GREAT Heads album Naked. I especially like Byrne’s line “I’m sure glad he’s on our side!” 😊
I agree. I had to ditch this. I wanted to see him react to the song.
The whole album is fire, but, then why wouldn't it be--it's T-Heads, lol! "Blind" and "Mr Jones" and "The Facts of Life" are espesh great, imo!
Exactly - they went out with perfection. Love all the tracks but especially Facts of Life and Mr. Jones
