In my opinion, this is one of those "rare birds" that just transcends he original studio recording, as great as it is. This is a rare version of a song that can really bring tears to my eyes while dancing along. It's just brilliant!
I know what you mean I had never heard anything by them till I saw the movie! On the way home I bought their catalog without listening to any of it. In the expanded band they more doubled the size of the band and it still the talking heads only more so.
This is far superior to the studio, to me. I think his vocals on this are just superb. When he screams, "My God! What have I done!" So perfect. I also love, after he bends over backwards, then rises up again. "Time isn't holding us, time isn't after us." The girls rise as well in a dark mist and I'm just transfixed, almost like I'm watching a religious rite. Goosebumps! Thanks for doing this, you guys. I love this and don't understand why more people don't react to this. Jonathan Demme nailed the atmosphere.
Great comment. I’m not sure I can agree about this being far superior to the studio version, as that is so musically dense and wonderfully produced. They’re both great!
Wonder how often Jarvis Cocker had watched David Byrnes ! So tight within the apparent chaos.. These are accomplished musicians.. Props the girls backing
I went and saw a screening of “Stop Making Sense” at the Music Box Theater in Chicago back in… I think it was 2016. It was hosted by WXRT, which is the best, most diverse, and least corporate-controlled radio station in Chicago. It was like being at the actual concert- people were dancing in the aisles, and by the latter half of the movie, they were dancing on the stage up on front of the screen. It was just one of the most joyous celebrations of music and the way it brings people together that I’ve ever been to, and I’ll always cherish it as one of the funnest and most memorable experiences of my life.
Great observation about that groove -- they are emphasizing the "1" of the next bar with that extra beat, which is a funk technique that was pioneered by James Brown, one of their musical idols
I know I'm 2 years late, but the Talking Heads did not get the idea of leaning back VERY far from Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal". This show took place at least 4 years before that.
Talking Heads are in the Hall of Fame, though they did not take the world by storm like other artists, they slowly grew with their innovation and artistry. David Byrne is one in a billion, a unique artist and charismatic too.
@@thomasshreve750 He ended that Tour at Flushing Meadows in Queens. 😍 Then did a Residency on Broadway that was 🤩 Spectacular! 😒 Barefoot .... 😂🐰 #ENRGYZRBunny
@@SightAfterDark yes, my wife and I went to that concert as well. In Des Moines. His creativity is up there with all the greats - keep reacting ! Thanks
One of the most consistently innovative and interesting artists of recent decades, imo. David Byrne, I mean, and a superb cast channeling and supporting his vision. Yeah, good note to end on. 8>D
David Byrne’s an amazing front man as you say, but as always Chris and Tina were behind the basic rhythm lines on which these songs were built, and I feel too much emphasis goes on him and their contribution isn’t recognised enough. That was in part what led to the rift within the band. Thanks for the reviews and look forward to the next ones. I think in a way it’d be better if you recorded them one by one and were able to see the comments on each one before the next is recorded, so some of your comments would reflect ours. That came across between parts one and two but would be even better done song by song. That’s what most reactors do anyway, but hey it’s your channel...!
I suggest you listen to David solo sometimes. A real swinger for example Hanging Upside Down from his album Uh-Oh. You will love it I think. Greetings from Amsterdam
🤩 #Facts 🙋🏿♀️ I 2nd that suggestion. He is visually stunning to watch. Blessed to see his last solo Tour (Flushing Meadows) & 🤯 Broadway Residency in NYC. 🐰
As a comparison, I'd recommend the Live in Rome 1980 video also on UA-cam. Different lineup, but maybe even a slightly better band. The addition of Adrian Belew on guitar is awesome. Of course the it doesn't come close to the staging for this film. ua-cam.com/video/GwWW742T0Wc/v-deo.html

Agreed! His vocals are amazing in this. Thank you for watching Lewis!

Its true how Jarvis watched him.

And Bootsy Collins of PFunk started with James Brown.
Wasn't this a Bootsy Collins thing?

Love this song and Talking Heads. What a great period of music
Every time i watch this song i get goosebumps….
Facts!
That microphone grab he does at 4:50 is fucking epic
Indeed!
It was behind him hiding in the 🕶️ dark! 🤯🐰
I was actually at this show and it was amazing. I had no idea it was being filmed.
Terrific reactions! Make sure to go back and view the VHS version of the concert again, so you don't miss "Big Business / I Zimbra".
Thanks William! We’ll have to be on the lookout for those
Smooth Criminal (1988) came out four years after this movie (1984).
I saw David Byrne in concert a few years ago. He was much older, but his show was captivating. Great showman.
That’s awesome! Where was the show?
@@SightAfterDark It was in DC. I enjoy your reactions. Thanks.

No one, but no one can do more with a 2-measure loop than this man.
Truth!
Great achievement to play this live that good.
Seriously!
Insanely popular back in the day!
Great comparison between the live version
And the studio version!!
Thanks for watching!
You also have Bernie Worrell from P-funk on keyboards and Alex Weir on guitar. Both funk legends. The two backing singers are even well known.
Thanks for the info!
🤯 His last solo 🎫 Tour & 🎫 Broadway Residency in NYC about 3yrs ago were EPIC! 😍🐰
We bet!
OMG, what have I done!!!
Here's where they found/met their keyboardist Bernie Worrell:

Easily my favourite version of this song!
Good swing
Not only great music,,great performance
Yes!

You’re right. Chris and Tina really are holding it down. Tina is definitely one of our new favorite bass players!

Sweet reaction
Thanks Joseph!
The only thing missing is that chopping motion down his arm (original video). 😀
New York System....same as it ever was....same as it ever was....gaggers stacked on the arm...onions and beef....Byrne once worked there
It's weird but I like the talking heads more today than i did back then. You appreciate the songwriting more.
It’s great how timeless are! Thanks for watching!
Me too. I heard their music on the radio back then and did not pay much attention. Then I saw Top Making Sense on DVD and was blown away.

Patrick Bateman always took that one too... first degree.
Haha we see what you did there
The great Bernie Worrel.
Great indeed!
It didn't hurt that David was, well, let's say...a bit coked up? Yeah...Regardless, this is one of the greatest live performances ever.
love it
Glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching!
David Byrne!!!!
We're all gonna die and there ain't no sequel

Thanks for the link Jay! Appreciate you watching!
There's a video of Kermit the Frog doing this song!
lol sounds interesting
Try Burning down the house
Great performance...but the studio version is better!
It’s a great one!
From Michael Jacksons smooth criminal?. Way off here. Once in a lifetime was 7 years PRIOR to smooth criminal.
Can you please react to Lisa Stansfield song called The line
please , please
We’ll keep it in mind! Thanks for watching Kevin!
Awesome can't wait so excited Can you please let me know when it's posted?

No money to subscribe to patreon 😢
We understand! We have to do the Patreon ones first, but will hopefully get to this after. Thanks again for watching Kevin!
Studio version of almost every song on this live album is better
We’ll have to check em out sometime!
Funny you should say that. I didn't know anything about the band before I went to the movie and the way home I bought their catalog and this is has more depth and richness.
that one background singer is bugging the crap out of me, they have her volume up higher than David Byrne's and all I hear is her in the chorus.
