I just bought an old Craftsman table saw with a cast iron top. So these tips, especially the remove rust/protect is Perfect Timing! I really like that push block and the crosscut sled, and liked them since I first saw them in your videos!
Just got my CMT Dado Stack (and got the email this morning that it shipped!); this is the second time I've see this item come and go in the space of a few days, so I am really looking forward to getting it in and giving it a whirl, both figuratively and literally. I use Collinite Metal Wax. It removes rust and leaves a protective barrier behind. My cast iron top is very smooth. I even used it on a planer that wouldn't go up or down anymore. It works great now.

my Amish neighbor suggested R-Vease. I trust him because they don't have air conditioned shops and rust is a major concern in Tennessee humidity. It is hard to find but better than wax and cheaper than carbon method.
The best tablesaw upgrade I've made is the "Incra TS-LS Tablesaw Fence". There''s not even a close second for me. It transformed my tablesaw. The accuracy and repeatability is unmatched. If you ever have a chance to review it I would love to hear your thoughts.
You may want to take the bearings off the router bits before soaking in the cleaning solution. It can cut the grease in the bearings and cause them to fail sooner.
I have the Dewalt 7491RS and am wondering if there is a way to make it's table "slick as snot" like you did for your metal topped table saw (I used finishing paste for a quick solution but not sure that's the best way)
Matt, I wanna add some food for thought about rust on table saws. After sawing some lumber on mine recently I did not clean it and was totally covered. The next day I come in and every spot that had larger chunks of saw dust on the table had rusted. Not realizing that the wood had moisture in it(as it was decking boards I ripped down) which caused the rust spots. Needless to say I learned my lesson. Just thought I’d point that out as something simple as wood chips can cause rust!!

Interesting upgrades. Thanks for showing them. Think I'll finally go for the GRR-Ripper. I've postponed getting one long enough. 🙂 One thing, though... Boeshield T-9 does *not* contain teflon (or silicone), so you won't have any problems with your finishing. I swear by it. IMHO it's the best product of its kind to protect your tools if you're living in a damp environment.
Regarding the power tech crosscut sled, it is comparable to the "dubby" sled, which has been marketed for years and which I have heard good things about. Also which costs more than the PowerTech.
I second Carbon Method. I used it in my new sawstop cast iron top and it’s still perfectly shiny. Helps protect against scratches but it not a lot. Don’t even waste your time on paste wax.

I have a small workshop ( 20 feet x 10 feet ) and space is limited , if you had to choose between a table saw and a track saw , which would you choose , thank you from Stuart in the uk
Depends what you're trying to cut. I have both. Bigger the workpiece the smaller the tool (take the tool to work piece) . Vice versa with small work piece to the bigger tool. Full sheets of ply? Track saw hands down. Small pieces of wood? Table saw
They sold out of those sleds. The Amazon listing had several products on the same link, but since the sled sold out it isn't showing up. Apparently the HD link is similar.
The router bit cleaning looks slick BUT perhaps we should be concerned about the bearings. Perhaps soaking the whole bit and bearing might dissolve the permit lubricant in the bearings. Dissemble the bearing before soaking might be wise. All my blades just got a bath in a garbage pail lid but some cleaner did get on my table. So this might be a better way and faster.
I clean off my tools when I'm done and I wipe them down before I touch anything that will be finished and stain grade. So, since I'm already wiping it down, I have not issues with using a paste wax - cheap, easy, causes me to inspect surfaces. I don't need another product for a non-problem in the shop.
I'd be concerned about workpiece contamination from the T-9 if I was painting the project... teflon doesn't mix well with paints or lacquers, particularly water-based ones...🤔
What would be cooler with the blade cleaner would be a crank handle that spins the blade or the scuff pad. Like an old CD cleaner. Pour in the cleaner, put the blade in, lock the lid and spin the handle.
You can get the ryobi 10 inch for about $200. They make two ten inch models, I'd recommend if you can afford it get the bigger one for fifty bucks more. It's a bigger table and has two miter slots unlike the smaller one I bought not realizing that.
@@rulowth4815 I've used the ryobi to cut thick wood including wet pressure treated wood and it doesn't bog down so why spend $70 more? And the ten inch ryobi is rated for dado stacks which isn't the case for most jobsite saws, it's one of the reasons I bought that one.
When you are using isopropyl alcohol, it may be 91% alcohol but the other 9% is water. I wouldn't think putting water on cast iron that you want to keep rust off of is a great idea. You should stick to mineral spirits for the final wipedown before applying the seal coating whether it's wax, T9 or any other product.
I've had mineral spirits leave behind thin oily residue before. You can pick up 99% isopropyl alchohol used to clean electronics for soldering. It's pretty cheap on Amazon if you're worried about it, but even the 9% water should evaporate pretty quickly without time to actually generate enough oxidation to matter.
At 8:23, it sure looks like a lot less than half a bottle, which isn't what was just said. Shortly after 10:00. . . "It's brass, not metal." I trust you know that brass is an alloy of copper and zinc?
@@731Woodworks Home Depot also is sold out. The PowerTech sled is priced at the point where it is almost as cheap to buy then build; especially if you factor in the cost to run to the store to buy the material to make a sled.
I've been a professional cabinetmaker for 25+ years, I've worked in everything between 2 man shops and 15 man shops. I'd say 85% of woodworking videos on youtube, Instagram, etc. are showing things for the novice and amateur woodworkers. None of the products you show here would be seen in any cabinetshop.
oh come on now, the "blade cleaner" is a bit of overkill (and expense/waste of space). Just use the lid of a 5-gal bucket and let it soak a bit, if needed scrub lightly with a “scotchbright” pad from the Dollar Store, then dry it off. I guess put some work gloves on if you are concerned about cutting yourself. So a dollar and stuff you have laying around instead of whatever this costs and the space to store it.

This was filled mainly with disposable of novelty junk. How is this going to help anyone in the long run? This vid is a fluff piece with no real substance. Show real tools that last of can be recreated instead of cheap plastic bits that will break of get used up in a short amount of time
Sorry but the Gripper is one of the most hyped but unnecessary gizmos on UA-cam. It’s expensive, fiddly to set up and completely replaceable by any number of homemade push sticks. You UA-cam woodworkers are constantly hawking this thing, I’m not buying it.

I just ordered the CMT dado stack blades to use on my Skil TS6307-00
3:25 Sandflex blocks are a lifesaver, and you can use them with the T-9 to lubricate and scuff. Game changers!

Check out the Milescraft brand of the gripper. Comes with extra side pieces where the Gripper is extra cost. Worked just as good.
