Dude same lmfao, just for the nostalgia purposes of it. Also I'm always curious if they miss out on any that I feel are crucial, like spending the time early to level up your additions for the extra damage.
The best advice is not to buy legendary casques, they trivialize any difficulty the game has. Use them for secret boss maybe if you go for it. Also don't grind exp, the numbers are pathetic, grind additions instead. The deepest system in the game is no doubt the inventory - get all the repeat items and learn how to use them, they are an incredible asset in both normal and boss battles: block enemy action, buff allies, debuff enemies. There is a lot of equipment, especially accessories that affect the gameplay in some way. Bandit's/Dancers rings are well known, but how about a hat that increases MP by 50% and a ring that regenerates it for a mage like Meru, or how about a ring that gains SP every turn regardless of action on a character with low dragoon lv? There are is a lot of such nuanced things actually. There's even a very powerful sword that drains Dart's health so you can either let him die every battle to even out other characters levels or use a ring to counter the effect. All that is one of the most underrated aspects of this game.
Looks like you've played it as much as me. I was really hoping for a hard mode or maybe a more balanced experience with some of it own systems. Speedy Meru build absolutely destroys bloody everything.
Been playing this game like a traditional MMO team, got Dart with Tanky and Therapy Ring, Pandamonium for all common fights, Rose who is glass cannon Dps stacking agility and Damage, AND Shanna for Heals, support, and Magic items.. Dropping Speed up and Power up on Rose makes her to insane dps, all while mostly safe in each combat.
I do the emulator and increase speed cuz the game is long, so once I get the magic sig stone I just farm the yellow bird with Shana and eventually buy the 3 ultimate war gods and then max the additions and the buy the legend armor and casque down the road, I've beaten this game a ton and have all the repeatable items
Equipping Meru, who I think is already the fastest character in the game, with the Dancer's Ring and Dancer Shoes is awesome. Where she can get up to 2 or 3 turns before anyone else. And as if that ain't enough, if you use the Speed Up item on her in battle (in addition to that equipment that boosts her speed) she can like get a good 4 or even 5 turns depending on the situation. 👀👀
And menu has access to healing magic and I beehive the 2nd highest magic stat. Her speed more than makes up for a lower atk Stat and makes her better than Shana imo
As someone who has traditionally played through the game every year around my birthday since it came out, maxing additions is the biggest life saver. Every playthrough I grind the forest before hellena to max volcano and double slash. Usually gets me to level 7ish and gives more opportunity to level Lavitz' harpoon before getting burning rush
So fun fact. It's not the game itself that's causing all these glitches, but the emulation is the reason of these bugs. Back in the early days of PS1 emulators the dragoon animations soft locking the game was a very common crash back then until they fixed it with emulator patches.
@@Coreisus I was seriously wondering about the talk of freezing... is this an issue on PS3/PS4/PS5? I played it on my PSP download of the game and never had any issues. I now have a modded Vita and hope that the same game from PSN will be just as playable on the Vita as the PSP for whenever I inevitably return to it for my 4th playthrough.
A good grinding spot for additions early on is the Dragons nest. There are enemies that use physical barriers and you can addition them over and over. Plus there is a healing spot and save very close by.
So they ported it to the ps5 as you may already know, technical issues that are nearly impossible to get past, polygon glitches, vocal issues when calling out attacks.. just a lazy ass port with mediocre trophies for such a in depth game.

Ah yes. I remember when Big the Cat joined the party. Kept his speech impediment too, but seemed he stayed out of the sun too long. But damn, dude hits hard.
So, a tip on cheeseing the rewind function in combat (if thats what you choose to do). If you rewind a few turns back but take the same actions, those actions will have the same results as before (baring things like hitting/missing additions) and the enemy will take the same actions as before. Attacks that missed will still miss, for example. But if you take a different action it will affect the in game random number generator and can cause the enemy to take a different action. This is especially useful for fighting the "unique" enemies that spawn (like the birds mentioned in the video) as they have a built in 50% dodge rate against all attacks and have a 25% chance to flee on any given turn. It also helps when trying to spawn a random encounter with them. If you're trying to farm them and they don't appear, rewind to before the battle triggers. Changing a piece of gear like a weapon or accessory on a character will also change the in game RNG and the battle can spawn a different encounter for that area.
It’s good to see folks actually appreciating this highly underrated title. I typically play through this game at least once a year. I don’t have my PS1 version, so I’m relegated to playing on PS3, but this is still one of my favorite games of all time. ❤️
There's also an nonconsumable item that you can get early on that freezes the birds for a few turns, making kill them a bit easier. Birds are also the best gold farms in the early game.
Looked it up, item is the Magical Signet Stone from the marshlands area. While it IS one use per battle, the item is NOT consumed from the inventory. And the yellow birds encountered outside of Bale drop the physical evasion boosting Elude Cloak (+20 A-AV), an item not otherwise available until chapter 3.
#1 don't use dragoon magic or your game freezes, it's not the animation of transformations, it's the magic animations. You can still use dragoon attacks though.
One of the only things I didn't like about this game back in the day was you could only carry 35 items but you could carry 255 weapons just didn't make sense to me😅
As someone who played the game- the magic item tip is only useful if you have Shana in the party. I would use these items later with a party that didn't include her, and it never did more damage than simply doing a regular attack with my party, even when I couldn't go into Dragoon.
I have been mulling over the following statement for years now: this is my favorite JRPG of all time; this isn’t the best, I know it. It has a lot of problems, but the upside, for me… overwheighs everything else. And yes, nostalgia is a factor.
I got this game when I was in 3rd or 4th grade and passed the first disc and half of the second without using additions because I couldn't understand how to do them. Thought it was a really really hard game for many years. Still play and love it as much as back then.
Huh didn't know that the color board shows which element enemy is, thanks for that. My tip for fighting the bird or robot its using the item called Magic Sig Stone (Blocks an enemy's movements for 3 consecutive turns ) and its repeat item that are given back at the end of a battle and are one of a kind.
in the game, the very first merchant you meet in the forest will ask you if you want to learn how to use items. the information is give in the item tutorial session.
I've got a tip for y'all...go n find a 3rd party controller with auto-fire...it'll save ur X button when ur doing the Magical Attacks! Found this out the hard way when u have to speed-mash n end up with a fouled button. I still play n my MadKatz has saved me ALOT of money on controllers. On the tip of Special....it DOES NOT automatically make everyone's Dragoon Attacks connect....just the one who used the Special!! AND.the last tip is confirmed...when u get Kongol on ur team, u need to go back to Lohan n get his Spirit Stone from the vendor you got the bottle (for Shana to be healed) from.
imma add to this a bit 1) Im a grind kinda guy so as soon as I get a addition i stop and max it out. That way you wont forget to LVL characters when you have them all. 2) when you get Kongol backtrack to Lohan and talk to the water seller dude youll need 1000g but he'll sell you kongols dragoon spirit 3) You Level up your dragoon lvl by getting sprit points, That means while your maxing out additions your also lvling your dragoon spirit. also some additions give more sp. I even equip rings that give extra SP i had everyone but kongol and meru at lvl 5 dragoon before disc 2 4) LVLing is hell in this game killing those xp/gold birds is a good way to lvl but they are super rare and hard to kill. Maybe grind pig dudes to get satchels in the home of gigantos 5) If you do grind for additions early in the game youll eventually get gold I got 10K before disc 2. you should 100% go to Lohan and pick up a ultimate wargod calling it will make mastering the later additions wayy easier. (DO NOT GET the cheap wargod calling it doesnt count towards mastering additions and does half damage whats worse is you wont practice the adds 6) shana sucks but the SP she gets per attack goes up with her dragoon lvl so within 80 battles youll get dragoon lvl 5 still shitty but i like 100%ing 7) please use a guide to keep track of getting the stardusts NOTHING is worse then putting time into this game then realizing you missed some even tho i think you can go back at the end the items are nicer earlier in the game 8) if your game is bugging out or something PSX emulater and piratebay runs perfectly 9) you can use the official strategy guide on internet archive archive.org/details/TheLegendOfDragoonPrimasOfficialStrategyGuide2000/page/n47/mode/2up
Don’t forget that going into dragoon form heals the character of any bad statues effect So once all your characters gain their dragoon spirit than you can sell your mind and body purifier as it will save you space in your item inventory as you can just dragoon to heal yourself
i will say, at least for me, changing the camera is good for additions, i find it hard to time it if the camera is to the side or back of the enemy, so you can always keep that in mind for sure
Cheese tip: Use the rewind function if you fail an addition. I sometimes have trouble with additions, especially later on. So realizing I could rewind in battle if I fail my addition has helped a bunch.
7:10 Yes. Lloyd in particular has a more difficult time when you're adeptly using Dragoon without leaving yourself vulnerable to his Instant Kill. Alternatively you can equip the Talisman to someone that you want to use the Lv 2-5 Dragoon so they can't be insta-downed
As some one who play this game once every year for the last 15 + years . . id say once you get enough characters in your party and a couple dragoon spirits , I kill dart at almost every boss fight after obtaining Rose . And he will still ( be strong and ) get his "Final Burst" spell for that wrench Lenus. You need to gain levels to obtain new additions . .
Something I never see mentioned and I have heard some people stress this issue is additions being too hard for them to do, not all additions but some of them. I will make this clear as I have beaten the game using nothing but the first additions and a play through using only the third additions. ALL ADDITIONS WILL CARRY YOU TO WIN THE GAME! You should not feel like you have to use additions you cannot comfortably complete as it is more beneficial to use ones you can complete as you will do more damage on average. I have beaten the game many times and can say, Yes you can use Double Slash the whole game and still beat it with little difference in difficulty. It is actually harder to use additions and not completing them than it is using nothing but Double Slash. It is not a shame and you should not feel bad using the base additions.
I learned about 3 things that’s actually helpful, beaten this game when I was 13, 14 years ago. Beat it again once or twice and now playing on the ps5. Thx for the tips, this game his w GEM 💎

In the original Japanese version of this game, there actually was a side, quest/mini game that you could do to increase the maximum amount of items you could carry. I believe it doubled your items capacity, I wonder if they included this feature in the new version on PlayStation 4/5?
@Phoebe Buffet I don’t know ALL the details, but I do know that the quest involves that “Rare & Unique” Item’s Shop, where you get the information regarding Shirley’s Temple and the Dragoni Plant. The Merchant opens a trapdoor in the shop that leads below Lohan into a hidden dungeon, your prize is something that doubles the items capacity to 64. Not sure when is the earliest this quest can be triggered, again, this was a Japan exclusive feature.
If you never become a dragoon, you'll make it the end of the game and only have 1 or 2 Dragoon spells per party member.. Or, if you Dragoon *every* time you max your SP meter, you'll probably have all 4 spells for Dart by disc 2, and 2 or 3 spells for everyone else. Have them all unlocked by the end game. You just have to use them frequently. Ie, everytime the sp meter fills.
@Tantacles maybe. I wouldn't know the underlying workings of the game. But I've beaten it once a year or so for the last 20 years, and I've had all sorts of progression in those playthroughs. Part of that being, having nearly maxed out additions in Zenebatos but only a few dragoon spells.
Dragoon lvls up via sp whether your bar is full or not. Ik because I maxed burning rush and had dart lvl 5 at the end of disc 1..I hardly ever use the Dragoon.
This is bad info. SP goes toward your total dragoon levels regardless if you use or not. A better tip: there are weapon and accessories that double sp. some additions are better for damage. Some for SP. use an SP addition with that gear to catch up dragoon levels.
@David Counsil pretty sure the amount of SP that goes towards your Dragoon level halves if not stops for as long as you have a full SP bar that you're not using.

I'm not sure if another commenter has mentioned this, but I noticed you didn't mention the inability to use items whilst in dragoon form. This is incredibly important if you use the special command, as unless you have dragoon magic to revive a character who is killed it is incredibly limited. Especially at high level dragoons where you could be waiting up to 5 characters on a potentially slow character to get a heal/revive off. It's the only thing I dislike about this game, one of the major draw cards of the game is to become a dragon knight, but there is a glaring weakness to using it. To the extent that if you focus on additions like you mentioned, characters are frequently much more powerful simply using said additions outside of tactical options like rose and lavitz's LVL 1 magic
@@tantacles yeh haha, whilst I always do everyone's additions to max them out, I always seem to end up playing Dart, Meru & Haschel, because their speed (especially with item boosts) and strength eclipses all else 😅
For the birds I do recommend using the magic sig stone and pandemonium since magic sig stone blocks a enemies turn for 3 turns and pandemonium makes an enemy attack one member for 3 turns
Pro tip. Never sell the repeat items like "speed up" for example. You can keep using it. Also very easy to forget you have them so use them frequently cuz why not. It's there to help
@Phoebe Buffet correct. Read the explanations of the items. If you see "rep" in the description it's a reusable. Catch is once per battle. Don't be tempted to sell them for what seems to be 200 or 250 gold if I recall most of them valuing
It's interesting hearing you and people in the comments talking about dragoon magic breaking your game, as I never had this problem with either my actual physical copy for PS1 years ago or my emulated version I use to play today, in fact I was recently doing a 'dragoon only' run where I use cheats with the emulator to get unlimited and instant max dragoon and just spam magic, with MP and SP restoring to full at the end of every battle. The time before that I did a no dragoon or item magic run and only used additions. At least until I manually got 99/- out of everyone's attacks and had lvl 5 of every dragoon. At the moment of tying this all out I can't really think of any game breaking bugs I had while playing, unless I used a cheat to have everyone in my party, including Lavitz and Albert, putting both of them on the party of 3 would cause combat to bug out and not start, it would do it's animations and camera spin but once it got to the point where it had to show one of them on the screen it just stopped before that and would basically freeze. Also using a cheat for getting all stardust breaks the game as well. But outside of those I don't think I really had many problems with my version I use.

I beat the game on the PS5 a few days ago. Had max addition for Dart, Albert, and Meru was there as my healer/reviver. The only person to turn to a dragoon was Meru cause of her ability to heal and remove status. Other than that, Dart was hitting 1k, and Albert hitting for 1.6k while Meru healed if needed. Last boss took maybe 30 minutes or so to beat. Fun game but not particularly hard. The voiceovers needed work towards the end though lol.
This is a specific tip, there are equipment that have a chance to revive you with half hp. One is an accessory anybody can wear, and one is a dress found in disc 1that 2 girlies can wear. The thing is they both give 40% chance, and they stack. Your stats will suck, but getting revived at an 80% chance on a speedy girly is about as broken as the late game equipment.
I think one thing that really holds but LoD is the magic items. It is a neat and interesting system but without any ways on expanding your item inventory they eat up too much space when the healing items are way too valuable. One tip I would recommend is keep very few MP restoring items and sell the rest, keeping maybe a max of 4. They are only really useful for boss fights where you'd use Dragoon Magic more often, but with glitch issue its been an issue to even use Dragoon Magic to start with. Honestly a majority of the time the Dragoon Magic is used more for utility and healing than damage so having just a limited supply for those that have strong support or healing is usually a good idea. Also don't waste your time doing magic with the Earth character(I don't want to spoil the character). Their magic stat is so low that it won't even tickle an enemy weak to magic even if you use something they are weak to elementally.
So couple tricks my friend taught me was get to level 10 before you going to the prison and you can max out darts editions there Elsa farm for gold early and my thought is also with your two strongest Fighters before a boss fight put the week is fighter in the party that way they can quickly get some experience to level up but I don't really know much other tips than that
This is my absolute favorite RPG growing up. My buddy and I would have two controllers that were wireless, so we could set them both a player one so just when Albert would come up, I would get to practice with his combos, and when dart was selected, my buddy would take over without having to hand the controller back-and-forth.
I've played LOD when it first came out and still have the 4 disks with black on one side. One of my favorite games. I was able to get 3 sets of Armor of Legend and Legend Casque throughout my last run. I kept killing th special enemies, mainly the one with the 1-hit KO, using Shana, Dart, and Hashael in disk 1, then replaced Hashael for Meru for disk 2-4. Equipped Wargod Amulet to increase accuracy and hit % on Shana (with dancer shoes) and Bandit's ring on Meru. Dart is for extra support and attacks.
Lucky for me, I don't need to worry about freezing since I still have my trusty original copy of Legend Of Dragoon that I have had since the 90s. Hehehe Also, I loved hearing the games BGM playing during the video!
Use you weakest weapons in Shrine of Shirley in disc one, Home of Gigantos in disc 2, Kashua Glacier in disc 3 to level up your additions as the enemies there are bulkier and will survive your additions for you to perform another.. Always been a goal of mine to unlock Flower Storm with Lavitz on my playthroughs before getting Albert..
I cannot stress enough just how good Attack Items are. Buy them, go into a boss fight, and throw as hard as possible. Enemies will MELT stupidly fast! It's kind-of absurd just how good hitting an elemental weakness with an attack item can be.
I forgot how broken the agility system was... When I first played Dragoon many years ago, Meru was my favorite and I absolutely abused her speed with equipment and items. I forget how many turns she got each round, but it got to the point where I got ANNOYED by seeing her constantly attacking instead of the other characters. lol.
Haven't had any freezing issues on PS4 but the dang dragoon attack thing feels like it doesn't work out for me half the time idk 😐 Played this game as a kid with its four disc man that was so insane to me as a kid best game I played as a kid too besides Dark Stone
right around the time the big one join your team, if you talk to a npc in the bar of the town called donau, he will tell you that he saw a similar shining thing in lohan.
Hey there! Great list especially the ending tip there! I have 1 thing you could add for a part 2 if you ever make one. Turning into a Dragoon gets rid of any status effect a character is under. One of the biggest annoyances during my play through would be getting charmed to death and I don’t know how many times using the special saved whoever was last and myself from that dreaded game over.
there is a repeatable item that blocks minor enemies' turn for three turns. you can use this to farm the special monsters in this game if you don't want to waste the sachets. granted, this can be unreliable if the monster gets the first turn and use it to run away but for most runs it works.
Very fun video! LoD is my favorite game and these tips should be really helpful to new players. I would also recommend when you go to save just cycle through a few slots. In this game I cycle the 3 save slots just in case something happens and I need to back track
As for the rare encounters (jars, birds..) just throw a sachet, you can farm Sachet (while levelling up your additions) from Piggies in the Home of Gigantos

I personally find the best item bag setup as follows: 12x single person healing item 3x party healing item 4x angel prayer 2x body purifier 2x mind purifier This leaves 9 slots open for magic and support items
You should write in a caption that the dragoon softlocking has been fixed. Still agree with rewind function, but at least this way people don't worry about using dragoon.

My last playthrough was Dart/shana/Kongol, and I kinda had to get legend casque for Kongol which I did at CD2 (Mille Seseau)

Not only that, but Shana too. The Dancer equipments are farmable but you only get 1 Bandit Shoes I think

Use dragoon to remove any negative status effects. That’s one I like to use and I’m new to the game 😊

If you rewind a few turns back but take the same actions, those actions will have the same results as before (baring things like hitting/missing additions) and the enemy will take the same actions as before. Attacks that missed will still miss, for example. But if you take a different action it will affect the in game random number generator and can cause the enemy to take a different action. This is especially useful for fighting the "unique" enemies that spawn (like the birds mentioned in the video) as they have a built in 50% dodge rate against all attacks and have a 25% chance to flee on any given turn. It also helps when trying to spawn a random encounter with them. If you're trying to farm them and they don't appear, rewind to before the battle triggers. Changing a piece of gear like a weapon or accessory on a character will also change the in game RNG and the battle can spawn a different encounter for that area.
It’s good to see folks actually appreciating this highly underrated title. I typically play through this game at least once a year. I don’t have my PS1 version, so I’m relegated to playing on PS3, but this is still one of my favorite games of all time. ❤️

another tip if u are poison you can get rid of it by turning into a dragoon if u do not have any Body purifier this goes for other static effects

There's also an nonconsumable item that you can get early on that freezes the birds for a few turns, making kill them a bit easier. Birds are also the best gold farms in the early game.
Looked it up, item is the Magical Signet Stone from the marshlands area.
While it IS one use per battle, the item is NOT consumed from the inventory. And the yellow birds encountered outside of Bale drop the physical evasion boosting Elude Cloak (+20 A-AV), an item not otherwise available until chapter 3.
#1 don't use dragoon magic or your game freezes, it's not the animation of transformations, it's the magic animations. You can still use dragoon attacks though.

I wish your Big Character back-track tip wasn't so vague, there is an NPC that straight up tells you about it in Donau.
As someone who played the game- the magic item tip is only useful if you have Shana in the party. I would use these items later with a party that didn't include her, and it never did more damage than simply doing a regular attack with my party, even when I couldn't go into Dragoon.
I have been mulling over the following statement for years now: this is my favorite JRPG of all time; this isn’t the best, I know it. It has a lot of problems, but the upside, for me… overwheighs everything else. And yes, nostalgia is a factor.
I got this game when I was in 3rd or 4th grade and passed the first disc and half of the second without using additions because I couldn't understand how to do them. Thought it was a really really hard game for many years. Still play and love it as much as back then.
Lohan is a town the game wants you to come back to. It holds many goodies.
Huh didn't know that the color board shows which element enemy is, thanks for that. My tip for fighting the bird or robot its using the item called Magic Sig Stone (Blocks an enemy's movements for 3 consecutive turns ) and its repeat item that are given back at the end of a battle and are one of a kind.

in the game, the very first merchant you meet in the forest will ask you if you want to learn how to use items. the information is give in the item tutorial session.

I've got a tip for y'all...go n find a 3rd party controller with auto-fire...it'll save ur X button when ur doing the Magical Attacks! Found this out the hard way when u have to speed-mash n end up with a fouled button. I still play n my MadKatz has saved me ALOT of money on controllers.
On the tip of Special....it DOES NOT automatically make everyone's Dragoon Attacks connect....just the one who used the Special!!
AND.the last tip is confirmed...when u get Kongol on ur team, u need to go back to Lohan n get his Spirit Stone from the vendor you got the bottle (for Shana to be healed) from.
imma add to this a bit
1) Im a grind kinda guy so as soon as I get a addition i stop and max it out. That way you wont forget to LVL characters when you have them all.
2) when you get Kongol backtrack to Lohan and talk to the water seller dude youll need 1000g but he'll sell you kongols dragoon spirit
3) You Level up your dragoon lvl by getting sprit points, That means while your maxing out additions your also lvling your dragoon spirit. also some additions give more sp. I even equip rings that give extra SP i had everyone but kongol and meru at lvl 5 dragoon before disc 2
4) LVLing is hell in this game killing those xp/gold birds is a good way to lvl but they are super rare and hard to kill. Maybe grind pig dudes to get satchels in the home of gigantos
5) If you do grind for additions early in the game youll eventually get gold I got 10K before disc 2. you should 100% go to Lohan and pick up a ultimate wargod calling
it will make mastering the later additions wayy easier. (DO NOT GET the cheap wargod calling it doesnt count towards mastering additions and does half damage whats worse is you wont practice the adds
6) shana sucks but the SP she gets per attack goes up with her dragoon lvl so within 80 battles youll get dragoon lvl 5 still shitty but i like 100%ing
7) please use a guide to keep track of getting the stardusts NOTHING is worse then putting time into this game then realizing you missed some even tho i think you can go back at the end the items are nicer earlier in the game
8) if your game is bugging out or something PSX emulater and piratebay runs perfectly

Don’t forget that going into dragoon form heals the character of any bad statues effect
So once all your characters gain their dragoon spirit than you can sell your mind and body purifier as it will save you space in your item inventory as you can just dragoon to heal yourself
i will say, at least for me, changing the camera is good for additions, i find it hard to time it if the camera is to the side or back of the enemy, so you can always keep that in mind for sure
Cheese tip: Use the rewind function if you fail an addition.
I sometimes have trouble with additions, especially later on. So realizing I could rewind in battle if I fail my addition has helped a bunch.
7:10 Yes. Lloyd in particular has a more difficult time when you're adeptly using Dragoon without leaving yourself vulnerable to his Instant Kill. Alternatively you can equip the Talisman to someone that you want to use the Lv 2-5 Dragoon so they can't be insta-downed
As some one who play this game once every year for the last 15 + years . . id say once you get enough characters in your party and a couple dragoon spirits , I kill dart at almost every boss fight after obtaining Rose . And he will still ( be strong and ) get his "Final Burst" spell for that wrench Lenus. You need to gain levels to obtain new additions . .

Something I never see mentioned and I have heard some people stress this issue is additions being too hard for them to do, not all additions but some of them. I will make this clear as I have beaten the game using nothing but the first additions and a play through using only the third additions. ALL ADDITIONS WILL CARRY YOU TO WIN THE GAME! You should not feel like you have to use additions you cannot comfortably complete as it is more beneficial to use ones you can complete as you will do more damage on average. I have beaten the game many times and can say, Yes you can use Double Slash the whole game and still beat it with little difference in difficulty. It is actually harder to use additions and not completing them than it is using nothing but Double Slash. It is not a shame and you should not feel bad using the base additions.
I learned about 3 things that’s actually helpful, beaten this game when I was 13, 14 years ago. Beat it again once or twice and now playing on the ps5. Thx for the tips, this game his w GEM 💎

The Violet Dragoon is broken when she goes into her mode the game will crash when she uses her special like it will freeze
In the original Japanese version of this game, there actually was a side, quest/mini game that you could do to increase the maximum amount of items you could carry. I believe it doubled your items capacity, I wonder if they included this feature in the new version on PlayStation 4/5?

I don’t know ALL the details, but I do know that the quest involves that “Rare & Unique” Item’s Shop, where you get the information regarding Shirley’s Temple and the Dragoni Plant. The Merchant opens a trapdoor in the shop that leads below Lohan into a hidden dungeon, your prize is something that doubles the items capacity to 64. Not sure when is the earliest this quest can be triggered, again, this was a Japan exclusive feature.

I'm very glad they released this for ps5. My favourite game and my old fat PS3 croaked a couple of years back.
If you never become a dragoon, you'll make it the end of the game and only have 1 or 2 Dragoon spells per party member..
Or, if you Dragoon *every* time you max your SP meter, you'll probably have all 4 spells for Dart by disc 2, and 2 or 3 spells for everyone else.
Have them all unlocked by the end game.
You just have to use them frequently. Ie, everytime the sp meter fills.
So actually… you don’t need to dragoon at all to unlock spells. Dragoon levels level up by using additions.

But I've beaten it once a year or so for the last 20 years, and I've had all sorts of progression in those playthroughs.
Part of that being, having nearly maxed out additions in Zenebatos but only a few dragoon spells.
Dragoon lvls up via sp whether your bar is full or not. Ik because I maxed burning rush and had dart lvl 5 at the end of disc 1..I hardly ever use the Dragoon.
This is bad info. SP goes toward your total dragoon levels regardless if you use or not. A better tip: there are weapon and accessories that double sp. some additions are better for damage. Some for SP. use an SP addition with that gear to catch up dragoon levels.
@David Counsil pretty sure the amount of SP that goes towards your Dragoon level halves if not stops for as long as you have a full SP bar that you're not using.

I'm not sure if another commenter has mentioned this, but I noticed you didn't mention the inability to use items whilst in dragoon form. This is incredibly important if you use the special command, as unless you have dragoon magic to revive a character who is killed it is incredibly limited. Especially at high level dragoons where you could be waiting up to 5 characters on a potentially slow character to get a heal/revive off.
It's the only thing I dislike about this game, one of the major draw cards of the game is to become a dragon knight, but there is a glaring weakness to using it. To the extent that if you focus on additions like you mentioned, characters are frequently much more powerful simply using said additions outside of tactical options like rose and lavitz's LVL 1 magic

For the birds I do recommend using the magic sig stone and pandemonium since magic sig stone blocks a enemies turn for 3 turns and pandemonium makes an enemy attack one member for 3 turns
Extra tip that avoids a spoiler: If you're wearing a belt, tighten it. You'll need it to hold in your feelings soon enough.
I wish someone told me about repeat items early in the game. You can look up a list of them, I have found some incomplete lists as well.
Pro tip. Never sell the repeat items like "speed up" for example. You can keep using it. Also very easy to forget you have them so use them frequently cuz why not. It's there to help
@Phoebe Buffet correct. Read the explanations of the items. If you see "rep" in the description it's a reusable. Catch is once per battle. Don't be tempted to sell them for what seems to be 200 or 250 gold if I recall most of them valuing

It's interesting hearing you and people in the comments talking about dragoon magic breaking your game, as I never had this problem with either my actual physical copy for PS1 years ago or my emulated version I use to play today, in fact I was recently doing a 'dragoon only' run where I use cheats with the emulator to get unlimited and instant max dragoon and just spam magic, with MP and SP restoring to full at the end of every battle. The time before that I did a no dragoon or item magic run and only used additions. At least until I manually got 99/- out of everyone's attacks and had lvl 5 of every dragoon. At the moment of tying this all out I can't really think of any game breaking bugs I had while playing, unless I used a cheat to have everyone in my party, including Lavitz and Albert, putting both of them on the party of 3 would cause combat to bug out and not start, it would do it's animations and camera spin but once it got to the point where it had to show one of them on the screen it just stopped before that and would basically freeze. Also using a cheat for getting all stardust breaks the game as well. But outside of those I don't think I really had many problems with my version I use.

I beat the game on the PS5 a few days ago. Had max addition for Dart, Albert, and Meru was there as my healer/reviver. The only person to turn to a dragoon was Meru cause of her ability to heal and remove status. Other than that, Dart was hitting 1k, and Albert hitting for 1.6k while Meru healed if needed. Last boss took maybe 30 minutes or so to beat. Fun game but not particularly hard. The voiceovers needed work towards the end though lol.

hunt birds outside limestone cave **before** going to town, there's endgame loot for sale at endgame prices
This is a specific tip, there are equipment that have a chance to revive you with half hp. One is an accessory anybody can wear, and one is a dress found in disc 1that 2 girlies can wear. The thing is they both give 40% chance, and they stack. Your stats will suck, but getting revived at an 80% chance on a speedy girly is about as broken as the late game equipment.
I think one thing that really holds but LoD is the magic items. It is a neat and interesting system but without any ways on expanding your item inventory they eat up too much space when the healing items are way too valuable. One tip I would recommend is keep very few MP restoring items and sell the rest, keeping maybe a max of 4. They are only really useful for boss fights where you'd use Dragoon Magic more often, but with glitch issue its been an issue to even use Dragoon Magic to start with. Honestly a majority of the time the Dragoon Magic is used more for utility and healing than damage so having just a limited supply for those that have strong support or healing is usually a good idea. Also don't waste your time doing magic with the Earth character(I don't want to spoil the character). Their magic stat is so low that it won't even tickle an enemy weak to magic even if you use something they are weak to elementally.

So couple tricks my friend taught me was get to level 10 before you going to the prison and you can max out darts editions there Elsa farm for gold early and my thought is also with your two strongest Fighters before a boss fight put the week is fighter in the party that way they can quickly get some experience to level up but I don't really know much other tips than that
This is my absolute favorite RPG growing up. My buddy and I would have two controllers that were wireless, so we could set them both a player one so just when Albert would come up, I would get to practice with his combos, and when dart was selected, my buddy would take over without having to hand the controller back-and-forth.

I've played LOD when it first came out and still have the 4 disks with black on one side. One of my favorite games. I was able to get 3 sets of Armor of Legend and Legend Casque throughout my last run. I kept killing th special enemies, mainly the one with the 1-hit KO, using Shana, Dart, and Hashael in disk 1, then replaced Hashael for Meru for disk 2-4. Equipped Wargod Amulet to increase accuracy and hit % on Shana (with dancer shoes) and Bandit's ring on Meru. Dart is for extra support and attacks.
Lucky for me, I don't need to worry about freezing since I still have my trusty original copy of Legend Of Dragoon that I have had since the 90s. Hehehe
Also, I loved hearing the games BGM playing during the video!
Use you weakest weapons in Shrine of Shirley in disc one, Home of Gigantos in disc 2, Kashua Glacier in disc 3 to level up your additions as the enemies there are bulkier and will survive your additions for you to perform another.. Always been a goal of mine to unlock Flower Storm with Lavitz on my playthroughs before getting Albert..
I cannot stress enough just how good Attack Items are. Buy them, go into a boss fight, and throw as hard as possible. Enemies will MELT stupidly fast! It's kind-of absurd just how good hitting an elemental weakness with an attack item can be.
💛Wish I knew these before I started my LP. I Save almost to often and rotate my save files also.
I forgot how broken the agility system was... When I first played Dragoon many years ago, Meru was my favorite and I absolutely abused her speed with equipment and items. I forget how many turns she got each round, but it got to the point where I got ANNOYED by seeing her constantly attacking instead of the other characters. lol.
Haven't had any freezing issues on PS4 but the dang dragoon attack thing feels like it doesn't work out for me half the time idk 😐 Played this game as a kid with its four disc man that was so insane to me as a kid best game I played as a kid too besides Dark Stone

Turning into a Dragoon gets rid of any status effect a character is under.
One of the biggest annoyances during my play through would be getting charmed to death and I don’t know how many times using the special saved whoever was last and myself from that dreaded game over.

there is a repeatable item that blocks minor enemies' turn for three turns. you can use this to farm the special monsters in this game if you don't want to waste the sachets. granted, this can be unreliable if the monster gets the first turn and use it to run away but for most runs it works.
Very fun video! LoD is my favorite game and these tips should be really helpful to new players. I would also recommend when you go to save just cycle through a few slots. In this game I cycle the 3 save slots just in case something happens and I need to back track
As for the rare encounters (jars, birds..) just throw a sachet, you can farm Sachet (while levelling up your additions) from Piggies in the Home of Gigantos

I personally find the best item bag setup as follows:
12x single person healing item
3x party healing item
4x angel prayer
2x body purifier
2x mind purifier
This leaves 9 slots open for magic and support items
Another tip find all stardust to get op equipment every 10 stardust you give to that 1 person I forgot her name she gives you a very good ring

You should write in a caption that the dragoon softlocking has been fixed. Still agree with rewind function, but at least this way people don't worry about using dragoon.
