Today, we're taking a look at Rose, a very normal and not at all F***ed up young person who is very young and also is youthful and also is definitely very young. Oh, she is the dark dragoon. A few bits of information because I'm doing a playthrough where I'm only aloud Rose and Albert it's not that Rose falls of her stat gains are lower to compensate for higher stats when you get her.
If Dart is middle of pack what comes to the boys Rose is middle of pack with the Girls.
And Once again you only mentioned her weapon there are tons of ways to cover Rose's short comings I'm starting feel you biased towards Meru. That's ok but try to keep these videos neutral.
@king flame here's the thing people aren't understanding. Every character can become viable with the right gear. Using the gear on a bad character to make them usable over using the gear on an already good character to optimize your gameplay is just ignorant.
Either way it's not a personal attack, it's his opinion. He doesn't need to be neutral to spare your feelings.
@@LionheartX4 in my personal opinion if you are going to do evaluations for the Characters it's beat stay neutral and keep your own bias out of equation.
That's the problem with gamers today All they care is the most optimum thing.
In Legend of dragoon all the party members have strengths and weaknesses. You can lean into a character's strength or cover Thier weaknesses.
In my comments on his other videos I'm just saying what I have learned from my experience playing Legend of Dragoon. I mean nothing bad by it.
@@LionheartX4 no this video was an evaluation of the Character . And I disagree with because from my experience Rose does keep up with the others but you have to give her the right gear.
@king flame okay and he is offering HIS OPINION on the character. Which the majority agree with. Dumping all the best accessories on a character to make them usable doesn't mean they're good. Her stats are booty cheeks compared to Meru and shana for magic and speed and Haschel beats her in physical with I believe a higher speed stat. The only good things about rose are her final addition (which is still not amazing compared to other characters), Astral drain in early game and when she gets the dragon buster (in literally the final fight of the game). Her stat progression is bad, her weapons are cheeks, her 2nd and 3rd dragoon spells are practically useless.
There's an opinion and a shit take and I'm sorry man but your take is shit. Nobody is saying you can't like her but don't cry when people acknowledge she's not the best character in the game.
There was a comment on "Who the Best" that sums up Rose perfectly: " The way they did Rose stats is a work of genius. Its only natural that she'd be way stronger than everyone else at the start, but by the end of the game the other Dragoons have passed her as she's hasn't moved and just ready to be done with her work."

At 10 MP, with damage and healing Astral Drain is pretty much the most cost effective spell in the game.
Fun Fact: Rose's third spell was censored for western audiences. She actually cuts her hand on her sword and lets a drop fall to the ground. She is using her blood to open the demon's gate

Rose's stats to me mirror her character. She is a woman drive by the past so, as the world moves more forward she gets left behind.

Rose is my fav character, so she's always in my party.
Plus, her additions are pretty easy, and she had ASStral Drain. You can't beat that.
Rose and Kongel are my go to party in all of my dozens of play throughs back on the Ps1.
Rose story plus her Additions are solid even in late game, she may not do as much as Kongol on the final boss but she does enough for 500%
With late game having more Magic based attacks going after you Meru and Shana are ideal but I have Meru in my team in all my playthroughs. Rose and Shana seem to be my second pick depending on the fight.
Haschel and Kongol are my thirds. As much as they are great they just aren't my mains.
Side note, items really do make the difference. Meru weak physical can be fixed with dragon shield. If you need it. As I said most bosses mid-late uses magic.
Once she gets the Dragon Buster, she hits way harder than Dart with Soul Eater which is insane. You can actually exit out of the final screen to grind your characters up before the final boss battle. I used this time to smash things with Rose as she does 70% damage to a Triceratops with Demon's Dance.
I remember doing that on my ps1 😊
Rose feels like the carry unit in Fire Emblem that you get at the start. Really really good initially but you don't want to invest that much into them over your other characters.

Rose is the red mage of the group. She's never going to be the best in one role but use her right and shes GOAT support. Her healing is great both earily and late game.
I never used her healing 😅 I rarely use magic in this game first time w/ Lenus I spammed her with final burst because of her speed.
I just upped Roses attack and defense w/ gigantos ring and HP with dragon Helm and she dealt more physical damage then dart till he gets his final addition.
Meru I used for insane damage or healing when needed, W/ dancer shoes it easy to have Meru be attack or Healing role when needed. Which healing was rarely needed.

She saved the world 102 times, she can Stay on my team, first time i played the game, i didn't put it together that Additions have different strengths, so i Whip Smacked the Entire Game.
Lol I did that until I found the auto addition item then ground to get it for my whole party and then started using other additions.
I guess I'm gonna be that guy. It was 107 times. Charle Frahma mentions this, meaning that Shana is (appropriately) the 108th Moon Child, born to shephard the Virage Embryo's soul to the Moon That Never Sets to enact Soa's will and birth the 108th species.

Rose and Albert were always in my final party. I think both are the most versatile with abilities that aren't only just damage or healing.

Don't feel bad. I actually finished the game using her from the moment she was available onward. And to find out she is among the worst party choices is sad for me too.
Having played this game for the first time on PS5, I definitely felt that it was almost planned for Rose’s astral drain to feel like it was falling off right before Meru joins the team. She does her job pretty well up until then though. Maybe on a future playthrough I’ll try using her for the whole game.
Iv played the game multiple, multiple times since it came out for the ps1 and almost every single playthrough I used Rose and Kongel because they were my favorite characters as a kid. And I played through using only the first or 2nd addition until I got the auto addition items for them.
It would had been nice to have a stat boost for rose when she faces her past !
I think I used Rose, Dart, and Lavitz the most together, including endgame. I thought Legend of Dragoon had an easy endgame when I finished with it, so it didn't really matter much that she was the weakest. I didn't really grind either, but I went for as much exploration as possible before finishing.
Yeah, I always felt sad that Rose got worse as the game goes on, but as some people have pointed out it really does fit her character. She has so much history behind her and at this point in the story, it's going different for her for the first time in how long? She's tired girl. And it shows. I wish her Dragoon Spells were at least better because I'm okay with everything else.
Finally, the best character in the game. And by best I mean Imo she is the most well constructed.
One of the cooler tricks with Demon's Gate is it works against Boss adds. You probably get it around the Helena Prison Round 2. Fruegel's two little buddies? It instas them. Granted there are not many bosses that this scenaro comes up on but it is an amusing interaction of the mechanic.

@@alexmaganda5827 It doesn't work on the bosses themselves. However, if the game does not classify it as a boss enemy it works. So like on the 5-ghost fight it won't work. I am actually planning to have it for Drake because I want to see if his bombs count or not.

I'll give Rose this, if you farm 3 copies of Dancer Shoes like you should, she will always be faster than Haschel, who will be stuck with Greaves cause Dart will have the Bandit Boots. Rose benefits from female only equipment throughout the game

If you give Dart the Bandits Shoes and have Haschel in your party, you are only hurting yourself. Haschel has better damage output with his final addition and is better served with upping his speed. Not that you shouldn't give Dart a Bandit's ring at least, but more Haschel additions>more Dart additions.

I really think rose is an iconic, incredible, insane in the membrane and vulva kinda gal for the random encounters. Give her some accessory that gives her mana and you can speedier run. You waste opportunity to do additions, but she's good in a 3rd or 4th playthrough when you want it a little tougher.
I use Rose in so many playthroughs. Especially growing up. But that was mainly for story reasons. Once I actually started understanding the stats, I used her less and less😅

Rose does get "Rose's Headband" which prevents instant death.
BUT, then you can't wear a Legend's Casque...a near essential item for some boss fights.

Rose getting the Dragon Buster at the very end in my opinion is just a big sticky note from the devs saying "Hey! This plot is super relative to Rose so she deserve to fight this final boss!.. " BUt its not like its forcing you to, obviously. However I do love having Meru/Dart/Rose as my final party because the 3 of them are on an equal standing point of fighting for something that completely involves them more than anyone else.
Rose looks cool and for that reason I always have her in my party.

I never noticed because I got stuck on the Dragon Staff as a child. I need to run through this game again.
I've never really liked Rose, but I do feel like Demon's Dance is probably one of the most fun additions to do. My main party has always been Dart (because you have to!), Lavitz/Albert and Meru. For my PS5 playthrough (which I beat yesterday and cried like a baby when they showed the drink Dart "had" with Lavitz) I leveled everyone up to DS Lvl 5 and all additions mastered. I was doing that as I was progressing with the game and by the time I got to Melbu, only Miranda and Meru hadn't been mastered yet (beat Faust with Haschel and Kongol) so I beat the game with them, it was interesting to use Miranda do say the least. Rose is underwhelming and I've always loved light based character and pretty much always shunned dark based characters, so yeah...
I still think astral drain is the most cost effective spell in the game, and it's counter intuitive because it works best *when everybody is dead* (because the heal doesn't get split in 3 and rose gets full benefit.)
Rose really has to be played canonically, either alone, dark and gloomy mourning her friend's deaths or with her beloved Ziggy.
Woulda been a nice touch if instead of scaling down the entire game, she scales down to about the early 20's, then starts scaling back up as she opens up more to the party/dart and it can show she's regaining her sense of self. Other than that, she is quite fun to play, yes she can be a squishy later on, but due to lack of light bosses[ screw those crystal golems in disc 1 that ALWAYS target her with that light attack in my playthroughs >:{ , you know who you are] she won't get blasted by nukes like dart will in disc 2, or other characters, especially kongol against grand jewel[ unless you farmed like mad and got him the legend casque].
So she can be "safer" to bring along, until you fight more physical bosses, in which rng can determine whether you have to have her guard or healed every turn, thankfully physical ring and if you want, armor of legend can be slapped on her to cut that weakness down[though now a certain boss in disc 4 may prove hard if you forget to swap it out]. she also benefits if she is the only female in your main party, as the dancers shoe will make her faster then any other member unless you give haschel the bandit shoes/boots.
Only real disappointment is her weapon not changing for the final battle, I know it may have been too much work, but it would have been a cool touch

I just tested it. Rose level 37, Kongol level 37, Rose Dragon Buster, Kongol Indora Axe. Rose Demon Dance, Kongol Bone Crush.
Rose did 1600k Damage. Kongol did like 1500k. To the Unicorn enemy on the Moon.
So yeah for the final boss Rose is the best physical attacker. Though that's only for the final boss.
I guess you could do a better comparison at max level (level 60), where you get the full of the "body" stat for both characters, but at level 37 for both, Rose did better than Kongol.
What helped Rose a lot for that final fight was both the Dragon Buster (strongest weapon) and her final addition that has 500% multiplier, compared to Bone Crush that only has 300%. So additions damage multiplier are extremely important.
I never realized her stats fell off this badly before because I always replaced her by the time you get Kongol.
Rose increases slower than everyone else but is stronger at the start than everybody else because she has the longest lifespan. She's been around thousands of years, repeatedly serving as the black monster in an almost unaging perpetuity due to the black dragoon spirit. She's already had these skills. They might have grown rusty a bit, but she's not really doing much improving.
my thought is that Rose is designed to be a Tutor/Sensei charactor.
what i mean is that she is a character with abilities/stats that are initally good but slow growth that will be overshadowed by whatever party you make(this does hurt more when you remember that JRPG at this time Place a character as a permenent fencepost in your party rouster)
The devs did her demons dance dirty. 4 counter points is a little ridiculous IMO. As far as I remember, I don’t think any other character in the game has a move that has 4 counter spots.
Honestly my team is always Dart (cause you have to), Lavitz (until he dies), Rose and Meru.

My current run for the ps4/ps5 release is a somewhat of a challenge run with Rose and Shana. Her being main party for so long really helps shore up the stat loss, and she ends up being on par with a lower level Haschel. Gear choice really helps her along, but that's just not really an argument.
I use her only in disc 1 or early disc 2 since she has good physical attack but from dragoon lenus onward i change to meru or shana/miranda & one of haschel or albert. That combination is more than enough to outperform Rose. She is like good at beginning but slowly left behind at the late of the game that mostly the enemies need magical hit.
I'm scared for Kongol's video.... he's literally my favorite and I know you're going to hound him. 😅

So I have 1 issue with rose and 1 thing I like that may have or have not been intentional.
Issue. She gets her additions too late. I just got back to Lohan and cured Shanas Poison. My rose is Level 12 and has a maxed out addition. I won't be getting another for 2 more levels. If you were able to get her final addition by Doel she would be without a doubt the best character for early game.

Rose's time has stopped but that also means that she's been at this stage for a while (not sure why she isn't better but oh well). Normally you see slower growth at higher levels (more experience needed to level) so what if rose is going by a completely different set of levels then we see?
I use Rose extensively on the first disc and then pretty much bench her after Emperor Doel has been defeated. She's still more useful to the party than Kongol, her time in the sun made fade quickly, but at least it exists.
Going through a new playthrough of LoD here since my memory card wiped itself..
Am currently at the part where I am returning to the second Hellena run and characters are: Dart L12, Lavitz L11, Shana L10, Rose L12, Haschel L13. Haschel of course is the only one without Dragoon at this point.
At these levels, Rose is still pretty far ahead of the other characters, both offensively and defensively. This run I am also making an effort to carry magic items and use magic in general more often than I normally would (additions will get trained regardless, might as well!). Rose's physical attack with her new Demon Stiletto from the Shirley Shrine and the relatively high strength of the Whip Smack addition (compared to currently, Burning Rush, Rod Typhoon, Double Punch) is actually keeping her in the lead for damage over Lavitz on a per-attack basis, not taking her higher speed into account. Still on the high train for her! I did get the Physical Ring ASAP and gave it to her, but even without it her base raw defense is still high enough to beat Dart and Lavitz until they get their plate mails.
Carrying magic items and using them has shown me just how *bad* Shana's early game is. Sure her MAT scales up later but at the early levels here she is struggling to keep up with Dart. She really was made to be a "little girl must protecc" character in the early game. Like at the volcano and dragon nest, just before she gets sick, Rose's MAT is double Shana's. It's kind of gross. It isn't until after the Shirley Shrine and Shana gets a good hat upgrade that she is worth using for her magic.
It is honestly kind of amusing just how far above everyone else Rose is at the start of the game. If you pay attention to her she really does just outshine everyone else for a while. I will have to see how long it lasts!
I just watched the new tier list and came to this one to see if it was said and it wasn’t. There is one thing that wasn’t talked about that I think makes Rose a little better, especially for new players. Her additions, specifically More and More. When it is upgraded fully it does pretty good damage and over a full bar of SP. which means that she can go into her dragoon form and at least every other turn. More and More also can’t be countered. It is too short to get a counter and as such is easy to pull off. Even if something happens and you don’t get it, you still get a ton of SP. I think that Rose is the easiest and fastest character to get into dragoon form consistently. And as you said her dragoon additions can “smack a bitch”
So especially for fights that only want you in dragoon form for one turn, or you die, this can be very good to be able to hit with a dragoon or heal every other turn and not instantly die.
Great video though. And I like how you did take into account all the other stuff that people don’t usually when they just say “Rose is OP. Look at her stats comparatively (when she starts out) and she can heal”

About Demon's Gate, there is one boss fight you could get some really good use out of it. That being the 2nd Fruegel fight. His 2 companions are susceptible to it. However, unless you grind the heck out of Rose, it's unlikely you'll get that spell by that point of the game.
Since we're talking about her butt blaster 9000, it also heals more if somebody is dead. Heals a lot if Rose is the only one alive. She has lower HP, so the use case is rare, but it's really fun in a low level build. Give her all the exp by letting dart and #2 die. She goes crazy.

What does it mean when magic says 50% magic damage? I’m a little confused the damage scale with dragoon magic.
It's just an arbitrary power multiplier. So think of 100% as the most a spell could possibly do. So Rose's dragon does 100% possible magic damage. Astral drain does half of that.
The best way to describe Rose is that she’s one of the best character to use early game but she falls short later on
Rose starts off good, her additions can easily be mastered early on making her deal good damage, in dragoon form only her Astra drain is a useful spell for healing and damaging but that soon gets outshined by Meru rainbow spell and Shana spells
Rose is at best average, she’s just a weaker Dart, she doesn’t exceed in anything, her attack, magic and speed are average with her hp being low
Although she gets the best weapon in the game the dragon buster but it’s hardly worth mentioning as it’s usage is only against the final boss and still other characters would do better Damage
Overall Rose is very good at the early game but once other characters gain power like Meru Shana Dart, Rose falls short
I can't argue with any of the points you made. Still, Rose is my favorite character, being the dark elemental party member. Everytime I play this game, she's always in my party and I've never regretted her presence. Others may be better when you crunch the math, but Rose is still capable of holding her own in battle. Not a "bad" choice (she's no Kongol or Shana), but far from the best. Plus, she just has the coolest dragoon design!
Well, being able to pick her final addition early in the game, may put her really above the rest for a great chunk in the game, playing really recently i as only able to pick the final addition for meru and harshel in the 4 disc, this being a playtrought using everybody.
Her strength progression lorewise is kind of accurate she's been fighting for 11000 years, heck she's not really progressing more like slowly in decline.
If, and I wish it will happen, they make a remake of LoD. Rose character is very flexible storywise, heck if the game is remade now, there will be a possibility of losing her when you confront seig?(Dart's father) instead of Loyde and Loyde will replace her as the Darkness dragoon, or at the ending when equip with a certain weapon she will do a heroic sacrifice.
Rose story wise is very flexible, she's the mentor character because is is hecking old.
Rose feels like the trope difficult boss character that finally joins the party(this never happens I swear), but gets a huge nerf compared to her original form.

Rose to me seems to be a flexible character for the beginning and from the looks of it not completely bad either for late game from the outset yes others could out shine her but she does have a place as the older mentor who's purpose is to let the next gen take over for her.
There is only one fight in the game worth to use Demons Gate: In Ghost Ship aigainst the 3 Magical Hat enemys, cuz they have at this point much HP and defense. Also is the rar item dropp chance higher in my opinion (use rewind for new rng dropp chance)
Astral Drain is till middle of disk 3 the best 10MP-Magic.
Rose is a good choise for defensive strategy aiginst 2 dark element Bosses in Disk 4, cuz her DG Armor block black element Attack and they also can spell instant kill, what rose can block with her specific Rose helm. After she get Dragon Buster she is far better than Dart in Human form, but this weapon can use only for the final boss. Lloyd should give it to her in Disk 3 would be a gamechanger lol.
In my opinion her Dragoon-Form should Boost her ATK and Magic by 220% and not just 170%, cuz she is the only one Dragoon with over 11.000 years experience and all other charakters just "new born" Dragoons.
Last Final Words: When you finish the game you save the world one time, but Rose save the world the 108th time before her final good bye. Nobody give me more goosehumbs than the personality and story of Rose!

I can’t understand why they nerfed her attack, defense and HP so much.
I get that Shana has the highest magic attack and defense. She is the moon child. Meru is a wingly so again I get it. But rose being such a strong female she should excel at attack and defense to compensate. Her speed is not amazing.
Oh another good thing about Rose is that she learns her final addition quite early and it does not require as much grinding

Considering how old she is, I get she is a bit tired considering the current events and the events after. I do like rose shoot I use Demons Gate a lot when grinding for gold and when I am close to a healing place.
I don't care how bad she is in the late game, she's a great character and I love her and I will always have her in my team.
As a Fire Emblem fan, I recognise her for exactly what she is. She's a Jeigan. Which means she's great in the early levels but drops off pretty hard when you get to the later levels. It's not like you CAN'T use a Jeigan, but you've definitely got better units by that point.
I get what the developers did here. She should be stronger at first cause she’s really old but if her stat growth kept up the whole game the way it does at first this game -which isn’t exceptionally difficult -would become a cakewalk because she would be so overpowered

Why don't you work on the actual abilities of a character at each point in the game, along with the items acquired during the game (ignoring Legend items)
Like you said Rosie is very strong at Disk 1, that's completely correct, what about Disk 2 3 4?
He didn't talk about things that would help Rose overcome her weaknesses, but only compared with other items such as Shana and Meru.
As in Disk 2 Rose will get Demon's Dance, so for a final addition with 500% dmg right from Disk 2, is Rose weak? This move can be obtained right at Lv19 after the battle with boss Grerich and can be easily trained to Lv5 right at Giganto's Home. And with Physical Ring or Therapy Ring, is she weak on defense?
Going to Disk 3, Rose immediately had the Dancer's Shoes/Ring duo in Forbidden Land (Ring rare Drop from monster) and Dragon Helm. Most of the time, Rose is so strong that the POWER UP and Speed Down items are available and it helps Rose to quickly destroy all bosses extremely easily.
Going to Disk 4 is true that Rose will not have anything stronger for her, but it is the Power Down item, combined with Power Up, it must be said too great.
Rose's 80Mp Magic Dark Dragon is NORMAL compared to Meru and Shana in the late game. But if it is a character who has played with you from the beginning of the game to the end of the game, Rose's level is definitely not low. Be sure to equip Rose with the familiar Magical Hat + Amulet duo and use Power Up Down and then Special Transform. So with 250Mp getting + 300% power of Dark Dragon (100% base + 50% dark-natural + Power Up Down = 300%), Rose's 3 turns at that time was really remarkable.
The real downside playing Rose for me is her Demons Dance nasty counters on her early hits which is basically a 50/50 if the enemy counters often so, ends up being annoying and she gets replaced easily. Other than that, she was a top pick when I played with Hellmode modifier because of her instakill spell (you can't run in hellmode), which made things way more interesting with her. But then again, she went to the bench once I got Smoke ball so.. screw that Demons Dance counters.

I tend to finish the game around lvl38 and Rose still does top damage without grinding so much. I think she becomes less powerful compared to the rest the more you grind.
But hey, she always has a place in my party :)
the worst part for me with rose is her awful dragoon spells like the healing one is good early but falls off too hard not well thought out and the others are meh as well except for her final one but i have to say despite her flaws i had 0 issues having her in my group all the way to the end as soon as she gets the final addition she did good dmg for me i think i also had giganto ring on her and dragon helmet to give her more hp and dancer shoes i wanna add that i just completed lod on ps4 and had meru and hashel in this run and damn hashel hits like a truck

I love love love these video analysis of LOD characters and the channel, but I gotta say I’m shocked if anyone thinks any of this matters. The game is insanely easy so stats are basically pointless. I’ve played this game close to 30 times by now and every run I just play with whoever I feel like or who would make the most sense story wise. Rose is my favorite character she is bad ass and all her attacks and magic spells look sick. Forget attack multipliers and just have fun. This is not needed.

My friend loves Albert. But I couldnt, His Additions easy enough, I just couldn't. Once Lavitz left the party I just couldn't use Albert.

Erm... Astral Drain isn't coming out of her butt... (Yin/darkness of the womb magic/she's queefing healing on them). Also: I'm told Demon's Gate can kill boss minions in boss battles but I haven't tried it myself.

Rose really should have at least one more addition with a high SP output. Only being able to earn 100 really hurt her in my opinion, everyone else had at least a 250 SP Addition. I always had extra SP equipment on her to help with how little she earned.

Shame there's really no fights in the game where this sort of min maxing can be REALLY useful.
The developers did her wrong, considering she is the oldest and most experienced dragoon. She should be the strongest. I think the devs nerfed her on purpose to incentivize using other characters

I love using Rose, she's not the best stat wise but her level 2 inflicts fear, you praise lavits's level2 for it's utility but hers if it hits is a the same buff to your party essentially (half enemy attack=Double resitence)but it also cuts your enemy defense in half making even shana's attacks viable if you run out of mp restores and it's permanent not just 3 turns like rose storm (at least I haven't seen an enemy use mind purifier ) it makes for good synergy with any other character, lavits/Rose when done right gives you the tankiest dart ever.
i just finished my 1st blind playthrough and i use rose and albert all the way,but then i just found out that shes like the worst character, i liked her lot, i hated meru when i first got her she was like dying in one hit ,also found out meru is the best if you grind her additions... lol
When properly equipped, Meru is game breaking. Turns the whole thing into a cakewalk
