Honestly, I've played this game over a dozen times, and I never made the connection that I could run from a boss, and then equip the correct Trap Element in response. That's a really powerful tip.

Here's the most useful tip I know for Chrono Cross.
Purchase lots of Tablets and other consumable elements, and trade those in for equipment resources with the element trader. You can buy them for reliably cheap and get yourself the best possible equipment for MUCH less effort than it would take to grind it out from monsters alone.
Your guide on the field effect system changed the way I think about this game, and I've been playing it for years. I didn't realize how intricate it was! Thanks so much for these vids, they're great stuff.

There's 12 endings...you only get access to 2 before new game plus
I noticed that someone else had mentioned this tip in your comments, that steel accuracy is affected by your hit percentage, so if you hit physical attacks and your percentage number goes up to 99 you’re almost guaranteed for a successful steel with one of your characters who have the ability, I have also found that this percentage score also affects other spells that tend to miss a lot, the higher, the percentage, the more accurate your spells and status effects on enemies will be.
Also, the “Turn” elements, such as “TurnRed” when casts on your own characters will change their physical attack element to that color, for example, if you cast “TurnRed” on Fargo while fighting a blue attributed enemy, his physical attacks will do red damage instead of blue so his attacks will be more effective.

I learned something new with that defend trick.
Steal accuracy is dependent on the hit % of a regular attack so make sure to do some hits first.

Another tip is to ensure none of your characters are down when a boss is defeated. Bosses give star levels which are the most significant stat boosts in the game by far. Recruited characters out of party still get these boosts, but downed characters in the party do not. This means a character that is down when a boss is defeated will have a permanent leveling disadvantage.
If you can't revive a fallen party member, run away, heal with consumables, and try again.
In the remaster, I’m pretty sure this has changed. I’ve been getting stats on dead characters.
Only the hp is given unfortunately
Wow. I did all of this as well lol. Except the Kid thing.... did it NG+ lol (No every time is bad, but no 3 times, a yes, and then more nos is the best option.

One of my favorite FIRST GAME (ie not on new game plus) hacks I liked having the option of was early on you can disassemble an item in Termina that normally has to be equpped to increase money earned in battle, but you can get 3 iron from it to give three members an iron weapon going into the next big part of that story. Not necessary mind you, but you can do it if you wanna be a little minx.

I vaguely remember my experience with this game 20+ years ago aside from loving the world map music. I just bought the Radical Dreamers edition and the battle system’s really making me lose interest.

i remember reading something about the steal elements being effected by hit chance like normal attacks, i also "tested" it as a kid and it seemed to help, might be something to myth bust down the line.

great tip on running away to set traps.
PSA as a kid who had to use the instruction booklet to learn Chrono Cross' system effectively, I died in the poison swamp because i didnt know to speak to NPCs.... theres an item you can get if you stay out of the water for like two seconds, then you can explore.
Put on your lv 1 bar as many cure all or heal alls as you can. At -1 they still heal for more when there's 3 party members. I always keep a full row of bar lv1 with heal spells so it's easier to get off heals in combat as well as having left over elemental level at the victory screen.
Believe it or not, I always go with level 2 so I can reserve level 1 for 1 of each color and some status spells if necessary.
I never knew about the Stamina method with defending with the same character that could have saved me in the past lol

Any plans on covering the mod scene for this game? There's already some cool mods coming out for the RD edition with nice aesthetic flourishes, and there's even a difficulty mod being worked on (which doesn't just boost enemy HP).

I guess for the early stages, disassembling some items will give you advantage. Like getting iron weapon before heading to the manor. If I remember it correctly there's an item that is hidden that gives you iron when you disassemble. :D
Disassembling items will definitely be a part of a future guide of mine.
You forgot to remind people that the most powerful spell is InfoScope. Just fill every element slot with InfoScope and you will always win!

Digital Foundry was a bit harsh, I myself am really impressed by the remake. I had the original late into owning the PS1. Then came the PS2 totally distracted me from finishing Chrono Cross. Nows my chance! Thx for the advice.

It is no joke to say that I said yes to Kidd and because of the consequences, I didn't finish the game. I never have. I quit when I found out and I've never come back to it until just this week. I bought the remaster and I'm finally going to finish the game.

One of the most broken combo set up is have serge use mastermune, have someone cast eagle eye on serge, have strengthen cast and then vigora afterwords. Serge wrecks everything except maybe 2 bosses

So I don't think Pips stats can be fixed (from the last comment I made) but I think I might have made a huge discovery about a certain element as I picked it back up today. Posting a vid on it later today. What do you personally know about the element Recharge? Because it does NOT work the way the text describes. Its actually way better, OP even.
It’s the Genshin Impact character names for me lol. Me being a Chrono Cross fanatic, I already knew all of these tips but still wanted to watch anything CC related anyways. Spread this amazing game whenever possible.
One clarification: if someone asks you something on behalf of kid, feel free to say yes or no! Your choice. But if Kid asks you a question directly, say no!
Edit: Ok, another clarification: You only need to say no to kid 3 times. After that, whatever answer you want is fine.
Except Korcha. He asks you something on Kid's behalf, turn him down too!
You really only need to do that on a first playthrough. After that it doesn't matter that much.

I wanted to know if star levels from bosses are universal. Like if say I get a character and don't use it for a long time and get several stars. Will thar character keep getting mininstars till it catches up?
I haven’t tested out anything, but what I’ve seen is they gain some stats but definitely miss out on some as well if out of party. However, I’ll have to look into it more!
@@tantacles I would expect a stat ceiling and them to play catch up In mini stars. Since you can't collect all characters or feasibly use them all in-between each boss.
Star levels and mini-stars are a complicated topic. Short answer: It's random, but the further you are behind "expected" values, the faster your stats tend to rise (and EVERYONE gets star level boosts unless they're in the active party and KO'd, even if they haven't joined you yet). So a character you don't use for a while (or CAN'T use, either because they join late or have apparent amnesia during Act 2), though not gaining the mini-stars, will get more boosts (on average) per star level. Their stats will probably still be a little behind, but mini-stars tend to give similar stat boosts to the star level that follows (again, it's complicated), so using them for a while will help them catch up.
It's still only one mini-star per level, and some levels don't even let you gain a mini-star (that's a universal truth, BTW. If the game's code says a level doesn't grant a mini-star - and it's hardcoded which levels do, not random - NO ONE gets a mini-star during that star level, period.)
I don't know why, but all of the sudden I cannot use my special attacks anymore.

Would you make a video easily explaining the level up system? I keep seeing SO many contradictory explanations. When I first played the game I followed a guide that said you didn't need to grind, but then discovered that there are "mini star levels" in between star levels that you have to grind a little get. do you LOSE the mini-star-levels if you don't go get them between Star Battle fights? There's so much contradictory information, and a lot of the more in depth guides don't even touch on that, they just explain the mechanics of how the game rolls for certain stat boosts
Sure! Not my forte, but I think I can do that. Essentially, though, no need to grind, so don’t worry too much.
If you always say no to Kidd, you miss out on the fireplace scene, no? I think on a first time run, seeing that scene brings a lot to the game. Of course, I know very well what you're giving up to see that scene. That can be awesome New game+ stuff though =)

I said no to Kid and still saw the Fireplace scene after Water Dragon Island.

@@KiddDaPhoenix You just have to make sure you get Kid back before you head to the island. Basically if you go and get Doc, you'll probably see the scene.
You're actually guaranteed to get the campfire scene on the "say no" to Kid route, as long as you get her back in the party before going to Water Dragon Isle.
The trigger for the scene is actually whether or not you recruit an optional character exclusive to the "say yes" route. Getting the optional recruit means you don't get the campfire scene.
Hey I am trying to get the recuriter gold trophy for the Remaster version . I used the Chrono cross element to recruit all my characters but Harle did not show up :(. I did save her as a gold star save which has 77 stars and I am currently in the end with 99 stars . Again I have all characters but Harle . I don’t know what I did wrong pls help . Was I suppose to have a non-gold star save with Harle in it ?

About the say "nope" to Kid, I just got to know her in Serge's tomb and I say "yes" to her... should I go back my last save spot and say no to her instead? it's my first time playing it ( after like 15 years [I never finished the game] )

That's actually not quite true about saying no to Kid. You can refuse her the first time you meet but the 2nd time you can freely recruit her without any negative repercussions at all! You can still get the hidden characters later by refusing to help her when that comes up.
The only moment that matters to reject her is in Cape Howl (allows you to recruit Leena), then when she is poisoned (Macha and Glen if you say that you don't know how to save her, Korcha and Mel if you decide to save her).

I love Chrono Cross. though, i never got to play the full game before. i had the first disc of the PS1 release and that's all i've ever owned. and thankfully i refuse to emulate it since i only have that first disc. if I want to emulate it i want all discs. I'm planning on picking up Radical Dreamers Edition instead on my switch so i can finally play the game. i'd pick it up on steam but i'm not the biggest fan of playing my games on a computer anyways.

@@tantacles literally when i first saw the announcement that the game was getting brought back in the form of Radical Dreamers Edition, I literally started freaking out. Chrono Cross is one of my top three PS1 RPGs, right up there with the PS1 Chrono Trigger port and FF7.

There's no downsides to telling her no. Well, at least the first time since you miss out on an entire character if you say yes, and Kid will ask to join again almost immediately anyways.
I guess if you keep telling her no you DO miss out on having someone that can steal, though...

How to allocate frog Prince?
On a blue character, sort by “innate color attribute” first.
Then just equip it!

Now, sure, okay, refusing her on Cape Howl is pretty much the only correct option, but I'm pretty sure there's zero benefit to saying "no" to Kid in Termina. You don't HAVE to use her. (She'll stick around no matter what you say if you said "yes" to her on Cape Howl, but if you didn't then she won't join in Termina if you refuse her.)
And yes, in Termina, it IS Kid who asks you directly, not someone else on her behalf.

I would suggest inferno trap… but whenever I start getting Botox, iceberg trap will be fine.

You only need to say no to kid directly, not to anyone who asks you things on behalf of kid. 😉
You say no to her on your first playthrough in order to get the best swordsman in the game...on new game plus playthrough do everything opposite of your first playthrough because you can condense save files to get all characters on one file....in total you have to have 3 playthroughs to get everyone though.
