My 600-lb Life is an American reality television series that has aired on the TLC television network since 2012. Each episode follows a year in the life of morbidly obese individuals, who usually begin the episode weighing at least 600 pounds (270 kg), and documents their attempts to reduce their weight to a healthy level. Update episodes, called "Where Are They Now?", feature one or more previous patients, picking up a year or more after their original episodes aired.
Patients are placed under the care of Iranian-American Houston surgeon Younan Nowzaradan (often referred to as simply "Dr. Now"), who first has them attempt losing weight on their own by following a strict diet, and then depending on the patient's progress may offer gastric bypass surgery or sleeve gastrectomy to further assist in weight loss.
Girl gained 104 pounds in 6 weeks. At a hospital. Mind blowing.
Her daughter will probably follow her mother…hope Dr No is helping the kid
The family snuck it in.all are guilty
Holy crap!
Not good nursing supervision to have it all snuck in..
Notice all the mothers in this video have daughters who are young, and already overweight.
They eat the same rubbish so it's understandable.
@@southparkfireflythat's true.
That's what they have in the house - junk. 'Monkey see, monkey do'. 😢
You cannot substitute food with real happiness, you end up feeling guilty one way or another. Once I realised this, I changed my eating habits. I accepted my loneiness and stopped fighting it. I made it my mission to do things that makes me laugh or doing things that I get enjoyment from (apart from food). The weight has gone, so has the loneiness. It took time and hard work and I am not saying it was easy but it was worth it. Now, I love going out on my mobility scooters, Tank Girl and Hardly Davidson, taking pictures and meeting people. 🌹
I'm not a food addict, but I have other addictions. You really have to get real with yourself and make changes to your life, which is super hard. I had to cut off my parents and now I'm going through trauma therapy (EMDR). Things are starting to get easier. I wish it were mandatory for all these people to go through therapy, but our society doesn't have enough resources, I think.
Congrats on your weight loss and successful journey!
Mobility scooter? Harley Davidson and Tank girl? Did you soup up the mobility scooter?
@@BabbleOn777 Its called Hardley Davidson 😆
I can’t afford fast food! I’m lucky if I can buy it once a month! How on earth can they all buy fast food daily & all that shop food? I’m baffled!! 😳😳
Nobody can do this to themselves without being enabled by someone else.
@@69UM24OSU12I was constantly nagged about my weight and eating unhealthy things, but it wasn’t me who bought or made it.
Medicaid
That skinny, puny looking guy is Bethany 's husband...?
I thought he was her teenage son.😢
Stuffing their faces with junk food minutes before their appointment with Dr. Now is in my opinion extremely disrespectful..😢
Damn , I can't believe the hospital staff let them deliver all the food to Samantha!
People have rights
Unfortunately, I work in a hospital and we can't tell them anything.
Not like that . The diet is part of treatment that you agreed to when checking in. When you next e manipulative , deceitful , belligerent, refuse to follow the prescribed diet and medications, any form of therapy, and manipulate, badger and blackmail family and friends into bringing you food, you can be kicked out. It’s called “ against medical advice “ and it is now being applied in many ways. After nursing for 35 years, it’s not used enough .
Very sick
The hospital have no legal right to prevent it
940 pounds?!? It doesn't seem possible that a person could weigh that.
The fact that some can stand and walk is what amazes me the most!!😮
@@tergenden1903 it does defy logic.
And they all had enablers and most had state financial aid..
Right??!! Crazy
It’s quite ironic that Bethany has a degree in psychology and used to help people with their addictions but is still struggling with her food addiction. It’s sad at the end of her episode she has the surgery but goes back to gaining weight and her daughters are gaining weight. It’s sad because no one in that household smiles and they look depressed.
Exactly. I had a nutritionist in the past that was obese. I stopped going to her because I just could not take her seriously. If she knew how to eat properly, why couldn't she do it herself? Why are you telling me to do things that you clearly are not doing?
@@LifeAfterLosing Exactly. I could and would never take advice from someone that is troubled themself. Even if they possibly could give me the best directions, I wouldn't be able to take them seriously.
It's not about the food addiction, there are more serious underlaying issues going on. Unhealed/ unrecognized emotional damage. Eating is a feel good quick fix to hide the real hurt
That piece of paper doesn’t mean anything. Being subjected to every kind of abuse most don’t find too shocking . The kicker is my dad is a certified child psychologist 😵💫
Not so much, I too am certified in mental health (as a peer) and Bachelors in Fine Arts, I did art therapy. I was a 17 year addict with aspbergers, and struggling while I worked. Often, you try to come to terms with yourself through others. Having lived exactly, you Also emphasize more. Sucks to know it was not the booze but my crap social skills the reason for currently being on disability.
Also, it's not difficult to perceive such issues objectively, in school work. Intellectually understanding is very different from comprehensive understanding
"No one can figure out my chest pains" .... its all your weight on your chest... solved
Right! Believe me, they know what the cause is. You just don't want to hear it.
who needs a table when they can just lay everything out on their stomach!!!
Uggh. It's horrible. I was almost there. I could comfortably rest a plate on it.
LMFAOOO
Right? When I was 230lbs at 5'8.5", I could write something on a piece of paper using my stomach as a table. This was in 2017, have lost as much as 40lbs at the most, but still struggle with food to where I recently weighed 205. I could never imagine being THAT big!
Whilst waiting for the video to start, I noticed it’s been sponsored by Domino’s Pizza!! Rather ironic I thought!!
Lol same here
😂
Because they know their target audience, LOL.
I feel sick just by watching them inhale their food. 🤢
You know your too big when you can use your stomach as a table for your food
Lol
One time, when I was 50lbs overweight, fitting into 2xl t-shirts, I used my stomach for writing something on a piece of paper and that's when I knew I was too damn big. I couldn't handle that, let alone these people that could probably wear 12xl, if it even exists.
OMG! I have been using my big fat stomach for a table for at least 10 years. Oh well , at least I am able to save money on a kitchen table set at today's high prices.
Lottie..
I'm was smiling when l read your comment..
I was only 115 pounds when l got pregnant with what would turn out to be a 10 pound baby at birth..
I was so big, l recall using my stomach as a table for meals...it was like a built in ..😂
YOU'RE, contraction for "you are." YOUR, possessive, as in "It's your house, not mine."
With Bethany, , she definitely ain't starving. No way with that big body.
What absolutely blows my mind is how they almost all say I know I need to change and the next thing you see is them shoveling food in their mouth like it’s their last meal.
Because it’s an addiction, it’s not different than drugs or alcohol
True
YES thank you, was thinking the same thing !
I was thinking the same. I was wondering why all of them have the same reason why they overeat. Similar story and reason.
Poor Sheldon looks like he’s never able to get any food.
He looks like a Sheldon. Why, mom, why?
Yes bless him. I expect he does all the running about shopping etc ❤❤
Not even joking but she prolly eats in a meal more than he does in a day
Like he’s literally out of food
Probably because he not.
Robert treated his girlfriend, Katherine like garbage! He did! Constantly acting like he was doing her a favor, by dangling "marriage" in front of her like a carrot to a horse.
What always gets me with the "It's my LAST CHANCE to EVER eat food again, in my ENTIRE LIFE!" gigalard that then proceed to body slam 9000 calories before going to see Dr. Now... is how NONE of them seem to be able to comprehend calories tbh... Like, you CAN eat a burger, no problem. Like: Okay, that burger is 600 calories... so, you can eat 600 more today AFTER the burger. Easy. But nope! It's either ONLY porrige every single meal for the rest of your life, or 9000 calories per day. NOTHING in between.
It's very well known that those who weigh as much as a Fiat, or a SMART car (and some outweigh those cute little things!) often don't even realize they're consuming in excess of 10,000 calories a day. Even if they're told, it doesn't sink in.
It's like a very poor person trying to comprehend how much money a million dollars is; they have nothing to compare it to, not having had much money ever in their life, so the number is too large to grasp.
It's the same for those who have no idea they should be down to around 1,500 to 2,000 cals a day, depending on height, age, bone structure, activity level, and a few other factors. That number means nothing to them, just as the greater than 10,000 cals means nothing.
@@jb6712 Kinda, yeah. It's like someone going "I don't even spend that much. Swipe, swipe!" yet, when you bring them the numbers that: They spent $4000 on coffee or whatever that month. It just... *never* clicks for them somehow.
Bethany's husband doesn't look like he gets to eat. Does Bethany eat his meals too.
Her daughters obviously don’t go hungry
I'm So Glad I Got My Weight Under Control And Did Something About It. From 324lbs To 227lbs Working Without Surgery I Go On Walks And Dancing Move Around And Drinks Lots And Try To Limit Surgery Drinks And Sweets Diabetes And High Cholesterol Runs In My Family But I'm Still On My Journey 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
That's amazing
🎉
amazing!
Awesome 🎉
Congratulations. I went from a size 18 to a size 10. I have MS so it was hard. You can do it
What are surgery drinks?
It's definitely mental issues to say only food makes me happy like you don't get tired of eating at some point your stomach can only take so much my goodness and you know you're huge when you use your body as the table that blew my mind 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
Some of their children are starting on the journey to morbid obesity.
The way these people think is incomprehensible. They blame every single circumstances to their lock of discipline. They are selfish, and they don’t care about nobody around them.
People don't eat like that just due to lack of discipline. Skinny people aren't just stopping themselves from eating, they don't feel the need to because they weren't used, abused, went through trauma, etc. Either that or they use drugs, booze, or segges instead.
@@tabbyreed8925It’s gluttony. A lot of ppl have had traumas and aren’t 600 + pounds. Self discipline these ppl lack.
@@Patricia-kh3bg People deal with trauma differently. These people use food to cope, other people use drugs, booze, smoking or sleeping around.
Almost everyone with a problem has been abused and traumatized. if it was just a bad habit with nothing else behind it, it wouldn't be so hard for them to quit. Why do you think Dr. Now sends them all to therapy?
@@tabbyreed8925 There are many different things to be addicted to. There is a point the person says “I can’t do this anymore. Look at what it’s doing to me.” It’s personal responsibility and the only one that can change your circumstances is u. I agree therapy is useful. If I were addicted to alcohol, to the point I had acites, liver failure, and 2 liters of fluid in my abdomen but kept on drinking, that is my fault. It’s hard watching ppl self destruct. It’s unbelievable how the body adapts to significant weight gain.
Using the double negative as you did..."they don't care about nobody..." means precisely the opposite of what you thought you said.
Mental illness takes many forms; addiction, depression, psychosis and too many more to name. Some say it's all in the genes - nature - and some say learned - nuture. It's tragic what we do to ourselves.
Where do they get the money for all that food? Do they just max out every credit card they can get their hands on?
Exactly. Maybe people are buying it for them?
Most of them on disability which means they get EBT or food stamps, SSI or disability checks
Disability, welfare
They also go to food pantries shockingly 😮
@@Patricia-kh3bg The ginormous ones send others, but you're right, they tend to wipe out food pantries many times. They also shop at the Dollar stores, getting tons of cheap foods (that many of us wouldn't want in the first place, so that's ok).
The night before.... 10 orders of fries roght there
She left pizza crusts...damn they're the best part!
My wife calls them "pizza bones". I usually give mine to her, she loves them.
Bethany’s daughter needs her weight controlled before she ends up with the same issues as her mother.
The youngest too
Who pays for their hospital stays? Are they on government assistance? How do they afford these huge mounts of food?
Benefits from tax payers
Taxpayers like me 😢
Taxpayers for sure. They can't work so I doubt they have insurance.
TLC. They pay for the hospital bills as a payment for being on the show.
@@SecretlyratBingo!
'He's on too many painkillers' 😂. Dr Now would faint if he saw my painkiller list 😂.
The problem is that they consume greasy, starchy JUNK! Good food tastes fantastic!!!
True. Do you see any vegetables? No.
WHEN PEOPLE USE ANXIETY AS AN EXCUSE THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT ANXIETY IS!!! ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!
When people type in all capital letters they don’t even know how to write as well as a second-grader!!! Absolutely disgusting!!
How can they afford paying for all that food !?
That's what I always wonder !
Most likely a disability check
People buy drugs how? Same thing…addiction. They get the money somehow. They probably have credit cards. I couldn’t afford all that food and really, the price of food means that by the time you buy nutritious food there isn’t any money for junk food. Prices are totally ridiculous for food.
Good grief her husband is so thin he looks sick? Chuck the poor man some steak 🥩
She probably ate his food at every meal because, you know, she was "starving."
@3:40 if you’ve got anxiety then quit stuffing your face-hole. Go to a psychiatrist and get some Valium like a normal person.
It's sad that Robert died, but "fighting like hell" was pretty far from how he actually behaved.
He still kept on eating. He could have just lived off the fat, but he kept adding to it. Eating everyday is unhealthy. 🤔🤔
Sad
It shouldn't be allowed to drive - its reaction time if needing to brake would be severly diminished.
Actually, braking time would be SEVERELY diminished, which in turn could cause an accident in which body parts could be "severed."
You need to learn the correct words because what you said was not intelligent, even though you might be irl.
Bethany is NOT starving hungry yes starving no
They need to tell themselves it’s ok to b hungry.
Bethany is the only one I’ve seen in one of these shows who hasn’t also got a fat family.
Her daughters are fat
I have a question. Where do these people get their clothes?
Second hand circus tents, or Rent a Tent
If you notice the rags they wear, they're often cobbled together from other clothes. Someone with advanced sewing skills can take two pairs of pants and combine them skillfully into one reasonable pair.
Even I, inept as I am with a sewing machine, could cut out and sew together a super simple tent top for either a man or a woman. And a lot of the women appear to take second-hand extremely large dresses and let them out to use them as tops/blouses because they can't get clothes elsewhere.
10:40 A fetish website.....Oh, boy. "I eat for people." huh???? WHAT the????
She needs to eat to make it to the next drive thru
They get checks for maken the episodes. And theyprolly get foodstamps an ssi
using urself as a table is insane😂😂😂
You're not starving!!
she only thinks she's starving. Her mind is telling her that she's hungry, but she's definitely not starving.😮
You do know that this episode is from around 2013 or 14, right? Your comment is absolutely meaningless to someone who isn't going to ever see it,
@@jb6712 woohoo. Your comment wins the prize for the most obvious. Congratulations 🎊
Rest in peace Robert
Who gave her the ice cream the French fries and that giant sandw ???? Just take the food away and keep it WY.🤔🤔🤔
My all-time nightmare is stopping for fast food on the highway. I would have to be incredibly desperately close to death starving before I eat that garbage. I hope the first girl is still losing weight. She did incredibly well on her first diet.
So what do you eat when you're on the road?
@acuteteacher You plan ahead. Pack yourself some decent food and put it in a cooler. You can buy sandwiches and fruit at petrol stations. You don't have to eat crap.
@@aussiemouth747 I'm with you for the most part, but is a sandwich from the petrol station (I'd call it a gas station) any better than a sandwich from a fast food restaurant?
@acuteteacher In Australia, yes. Plain sandwich on wholemeal and an apple and we don't smother everything in 'ranch'. I've been to the USA many times. Lovely people and plenty of healthy food if you want it.🥰🦘
Doesn’t the hospital have a dietitian that controls what the patient is eating?
A dietician can advise, but can’t control. Unless you are in prison, no one can restrict another adults food choices. The hospital can offer and recommend a low calorie diet, but can’t force people to order it, or pull forbidden food from people’s hands, or frisk visitors for contraband, search skin folds, have 3 shifts a day of full-time staff to do nothing but watch one patient, etc. A legally competent adult has a right to refuse medical advice, even if their choices are harmful.
But even more, let’s say you could lock a person in a room and force them to follow a diet and lose weight. If they don’t learn to regulate themselves, they will regain within weeks of getting out….so the benefit is what? In the end, the person has to be the one to control and follow a diet.
The patient has to agree to a reduced calorie diet and sign a piece of paper stating that unbelievably.
Within the contract the patients sign, Dr. Now tells the hospital staff via his written orders what the patient can have. However, the dieticians are NOT the "food police," they are not responsible for what food the patient stuffs into their big mouths, and they're extremely limited as to what they can do.
Not even Dr. Now can enforce what extra food the patient sneaks in, but he can, and has, cancelled the contract on people for their breech, and then the patient is responsible for all the costs incurred to that time.
@@Patricia-kh3bg They don't sign a "piece of paper;" there is an entire legal contract that involves a great deal more than just a piece of paper. And if the patient is so foolish as to quit the program, then the contract is cancelled, and the person is fully responsible for all the costs they incurred to that date. It's been shown at least once, although I don't know which episode nor which patient, having seen only about ten minutes of that foolish person's nonsense.
@@jb6712 I seen that on one of the series while they were in the hospital, they met with a nutritionist for diet preferences. Had no idea it was so complicated.
When they gain weight in the hospital, SOMEBODY is sneaking in food.
DUH! Do you think?? 🙄
This woman casually says and the next couple of years I gained 800 lb is horrifying!
America is fat plain and simple lots of fast food
People who show themselves to have problems shouldn't make comments, and you're one of them. You can't even compose and write a clear, comprehensive, properly stated little comment.
Keep the food away from them.🤔🤔
That is probably THE single dumbest, most thoughtless response I've ever seen on any Comment section of any of these videos.
Why do the overweight person always want to drive
It’s very unsafe
THESE PEOPLE ALWAYS SAY THEIR HUNGRY!!! THEY ABSOLUTELY DON'T KNOW WHAT HUNGRY IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!
I stick with my wght log, record every vital signal at every dr visit, keep to mini sugar soda, try to drink lots of water. Also do near to as low sugar as possible but being stuck in the house with V19- dx after Christmas- makes it hard when you want to stave off junk ex: doughnuts.
There's a soda on the market, very good, called Zevia. No sugar, no calories, wonderful flavors, including ginger root beer (my fave), ginger ale, cola, cherry, and about four others. It's sweetened with stevia, something I normally don't like, but this soda is so delicious, I'll drink it occasionally, and it satisfies my desire for something sweet without spiking my blood sugar, and without causing cravings. I also drink lots of sparkling water---no calories, lots of different flavors available, no sugar of any kind (there is a very slight sweetness to it, but I've never found out what it's from). But you probably know all that, so I may have blathered on for nothing.
There is not ONE 600 pounder that is not surrounded by an enabler.
Eating a lot is like blowing up a balloon. The more you blow it, the more it inflates. If you keep blowing it, it will surely explode.
Samantha uses her huge belly as a table for all her junk food.
honestly, if they just cut out sugar and carbs, they could eat as much food as they wanted and still lose weight with no exercise.
That hospital is a disgrace but it makes the bills higher and THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS. Doctor Naz needs to get the hospital to enforce those dietary plans.
They… DO enforce the diet 😭 Samantha specifically wasn’t at Dr. Now’s hospital so he couldn’t control their meal plan. Usually they’re put on an 800-1200 calorie diet.
His name is Dr. Nowazaradan, Dr. Now for short. And that wasn't the hospital he works out of, so he had zero say in what goes on there.
Both Mother and Daughter need GSLV surgery
If you mean Bethany's daughter, she was far too young for such stupidity! She was only around 9 or 10 years old when this episode came out back in 2013 oor 14!
"Oh, THIS platter looks like it's enough for us!"
"No, no, no--it says served FROM eight to eleven!"
"Oh...well...that's no good."
😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
What happend to them, where is the end? Even written is cooll
So , her anxiety is building? So what , you must be depressing all your family ,take a tranquilliser ,
Why font they buy food at a market when they have a road trip?
They can. But they live on fast food
Because 1) it's very hard to get out of and back into the vehicle. If you noticed the difficulty each of the drivers had getting in?;
2) it's not very convenient to get food that's already prepared in the store because it's most often meant as a meal for several people, so there's no easy way to eat it;
3) it's far, far easier to just hold onto a sloppy burger in one hand when driving than it is to hold onto a whole chicken breast half and gnaw away at that, whether driving, or not.
@@jb6712 I pack food in a cooler when I travel ( and I make 1500-mile trips one way): Sandwiches, fruit, veggies, other prepared foods that can be eaten with one hand, drinks, along with yogurt and other things that need 2 hands. That's better than stopping every 3 hours to eat a 4,000 calorie meal. These people make bad choices and pretend there are no other choices.
I only ate a 4 piece instead of a 40 piece. Wow how did that happen
Bethany's not only addicted to junk food, she's addicted to having panic attacks.
My question is how can they afford to get weight loss surgery when they use all their money on food? How can they afford to go on Dr. Now's program?
I understand the show pays for it. The patient allows filming so that they can get the surgery.
Everything was paid for by TLC (this episode was from around 2013 or 14), but only as long as the person kept to the terms of the contract they signed, such as allowing themselves to be filmed. But they were also supposed to actually follow the diet, do everything Dr. Now told them to do, stick tightly to the entire program, etc.
She's 700 lbs heavier than me and even i feel fat at my weight
Who is buying and feeding all this food to her … mummy love
1:06 She doesn't look like she's enjoying that ice cream at all poor cow...I'd say that's TLC's idea.
She doesn't deserve to have to eat so much.
Huh?
So taking lacy out to eat is going to help she needs a support group for overeating like gsa or oa how
You need a support group for people who are clueless about how to compose and write a proper comment, with correct grammar, syntax, spelling, and punctuation!
Of all these videos I have seen I NEVER see these people go to order a salad or even have fruits or veggies in their house!!!
Sam's abdomin_ stomache looks malformmed

Bethany has been eating all of Sheldon’s food as well as her own.
He had better look out as he’s just about snack size for Bethany.
Just like a drug addict, she wants to get one more ‘hit’ from food. It’s not something anyone should put her down for. It’s normal addiction behavior. No matter what she looks like to the world. I had Ana and later Bulimia. Before I was treated, I ate a huge meal, and purged before I saw a doctor that basically gave me a drug that wouldn’t allow me to purge anymore. But I still binge eat, sometimes. I’ve had to train my body to not allow me to get overly full.
All eating disorders may not look the same, but they’re just as important as someone binge eating with what seems like a lot of enablers present. Sigh.
Only nine of me in one body.
It seems as if most of the people going to see Dr. Now, eat vociferously beforehand, like it’s the “Last Supper.”
Is Sheldon slow?
When I make my bed, I'll just have to sleep on it!!!
I had a horse who weighed about the same as Robert. That is shocking.
Why are these people always naked ?
They pay them more to take their clothes off for the camera.
What’s up with those quotes they’re nowhere on the video
with that little carton of ice cream X the amount in the bowel why use the bowel at all? and that goes for anybody! 🤔interesting just make more work
Where do they get money to buy so much food?
She is even eating trying to drive
I often observe that most of these people don’t seem very intelligent. Some have been quite bright, however. But the narration they do makes them sound like a second grader. Talking so slowly ……. Who writes that for them? Just cringy
How food is an addiction , I know the best cure put the dinner table in front a mirror so they can watch themselves goulfing down so they can enjoy the view and u the caring family know that they don't care about themselves.
Been done, doesn't work.
The utter nonsense people come up with to "cure" something like overeating is downright nauseating, and those who have zero idea why anyone overeats need to keep their useless opinions to themselves.
Sp sick of hearing these people moaning about how much pain thry are in......they did this to themselves !!!
If food is the only joy u have in life, that's pathetic. Especially if u have children. They should be ur joy and ur motivation to lose the weight.
A young woman in Wisconsin at 850 lbs died and laid in her bed for 12 hours until it could be figured out how to get the body out. 22 people to get her out and into a truck. Look it up. No funeral parlor would take her for her size.
What happened with Lacy? Did she get surgery and continue to loose weight? She started out so well I hope she continued
Nobody "looses" weight, but they do LOSE it.
Is Samantha still alive?
Look her up, don't expect others to do it for you!
Are there companies that specialise in making giant furniture? (Not asking for myself!).
You never hear the cost of everything they eat
I'm Asian, is it really common in US people eat junk food all day? From breakfast to dinner. I mean, why they're not buy at least real food from restaurants.
