Powerlifting 100,000 POUNDS in 1 Hour (is it possible?)

- The sport of powerlifting is comprised of three movements: benchpress, back squat, + deadlift. Typically competitors try to max out just 1 rep, but what if they tried to rack up as much weight as possible? In this video Capt. Tom and I attempt to powerlift 100,000 pounds in under one hour!

@Nick Symmonds, I did the math (hopefully right), and even if you went with the 50lb bar strategy, you'd have to do 2000 reps, which equals a rep every 1.8 seconds for the entire hour😬Beast of an efffort, but a difficult goal!!
Nick can i get a shoutout

I did 100K in 1 hour 15 mins. My personal best ever.
You try like these 1 month you Got UNBELİVABLE+ ! Muscles !
This looks absolutely brutal. Captain Tom's a beast.

This is pretty insane
I can tell you from experience that doing all 100K in an hour on just bench press made me feel as if I'd run 10 miles.
I was so sore that I had to Ice my shoulders for 2 hours that night. It was like doing 1000 pushups in just an hour. It's brutal and I would not suggest it to anyone..
It is..... I one upped these guys in my own challenge. Did 105,200 lbs of bench press in one hour. But since I'm a former USAPL member, I decided to do 10-20-30 rep drop sets starting at 275lbs and dropping plates until I got to 135 (1 plate ) ..
67K worth of drop sets and warmups kicked my ass. had to rep out 135lbs the rest of the way.
I'm waiting for the rematch with different strategies. Definitely doable. Just went a little heavy out of the gate. Enjoy FL!
Yess we are all waiting for that 💯💪
Let's take some time to appreciate this guy he works very hard for us, puts a lot of energy into these videos , and work hard Thanks Nick.
You didn't even watch the vidio
@@tannerlabrum3288 Bro I am talking overall.🤦♂️, in every video he works hard.
My pleasure! Shout out to Dolfin and Ryan The Camera Guy who help me film + edit these. And can't forget Capt. Tom!! He's the only guy crazy enough to attempt some of these challenges with me :D

@@nicksymmonds wow so rude to call him that lmao
@@chadwick62838 but his name is poop face lol
@@donaldducksaverussia8923 🤐🤦♀️
@@donaldducksaverussia8923 he was joking
I tried it last month with only deadlifts and got to 72k. My strategy was to deadlift 225lbs (40% of my 1rep max) 10times then rest for 90 seconds. I alternated between hamstring and spinal erector dominant deadlifts to let muscles rest better between sets (I don’t know if it helped or not, tho). In the end, I got 32sets and a week worth of back and knees pain.
Wow that must have been super intense 💯
This is a sick idea, definitely gonna give it a try. I think my strategy will be to use 100lb bar and just switch between deadlift and bench over and over, building in short rests from time to time.
It’s not his idea, it first came from Jesser and CashNasty who didn’t do it with these restricted exercises but CashNasty did complete it
I'd do just the bar for benching, 95 for deadlifts and squats
@@tylerh1648That's the thing here. Feel like it would be really easy completing this only benching the bar as it seems like the most time efficient movement here. Would just do that until I get tired, do some 100-150lb deadlifts and finish of with squats just for the sake of it.
Exactly my idea
@@tylerh1648 You'd need to do somewhere between 34 and 16 reps a minute for bench and squats respectively, that's not sustainable over an hour, not even close.
haha epic 🔥
You’re video inspired me brother! Limiting it to just three movements makes it almost impossible. BACK STILL SORE 💀
@@nicksymmonds Exactly my thoughts! Mad respect 😂🙌
@@nicksymmonds Nothing is impossible Nick!
hi stan, big fan
2223 reps using just the barbell would be a sound strategy if your cardio is up to date. No losing time changing weights either.
15 reps deadlift at 45kg 100lbs (30 seconds)
10 reps bench at same weight: (20 seconds)
15 squats same weight (30 seconds)
Extra time to recover, swap positions: (40 seconds)
Total per cycle: 40 reps at 100 lbs = 4000lbs in 120 seconds.
25 cycles for 100k lbs = 25 x 2minutes = 50 minutes.
Rest time between excercises: 1:30 dl & squat, 1:40 bench.
Doesn't seem impossible if you keep the working weight low.
Recover/swap positions time seems a lot at the begining but after 20 cycles wont be enough
It “doesn’t seem impossible” because you’re just making up random numbers that aren’t achievable. No one is going to be able to _consistently_ do 10-15 reps of SBD for 20-30 seconds each set.
Like dude, 30 seconds for 15 deadlifts? That _2 seconds_ per deadlift. _2 seconds._
@@Idk-do1ui There are multiple examples in the video where Tom does 2 second deadlifts near the end, so a 2 second deadlift really isn't as lighting fast as you seem to think. You would obviously want your reps to be as fast as possible since higher time under tension = more muscular fatigue.
I still think it's possible, didn't say it's not hard as fuck or impressive. As you can see in the video Tom got close to the 100k. I think he might have done it if he started with a lower working weight and kept squating.
Either way hats off to Nick and Tom for their impressive numbers.
my man whipped out the algebra
I'm an experienced former power lifter. I just did the challenge 2 days ago in my local gym. I did add some extra requirements to it for my own amusement though.
1. Do all 100K on a single exercise -- I chose bench press
2. Do half of the weight as "drop sets" beginning within 90% of your 10 rep max,
Drop sets are 10 reps , then take off plates until your 20 rep max, then take off plate until you get to a 30 rep set all within 1-2 minutes with virtually no rest.
The other half of the weight , do it light and fast like Nick here.
I made 104,000 lbs in 59 minutes doing 25 minute sessions with a 10 minute rest in between.
My next challenge will be 100K of squat. I want to know if anyone can even do that. The world record is about 127,000 lbs by a guy who did "fast and light" strategy with like 100-150lbs per rep.
Fun Fact -- when you do this 100K on bench alone, it feels like you've just done 1000 pushups. I would not suggest it to anyone.
I've been watching your videos for a while now and I'm so glad to see you switch it up and still keep it entertaining with this awesome video idea! I'd love to see more like this.

I don't envy the pain you would have been in for days afterwards. It was a sensational effort by both of you but Tom left absolutely nothing in the tank.
He was so dedicated it’s unbelievable 💯
That's a good challenge, cracking effort Captain Tom !! I think I know a Crosfitter who might be able to do this...
I like to see you only do those 3 exercises bc some other UA-camrs use pushups and they get their own body weight in lb added on and that’s so much easier. Ur vids are great keep up the good work 👍
Yess he really went all out 🔥💯
The editing on this must’ve been a nightmare. Awesome video!

I’m considering trying this as I am a competitive powerlifter, however just like most Powerlifters, I’m not particularly good with the endurance aspect of lifting... 😁
Depending how strong you are, doing 150-200 pound deadlifts and squats all day would probably make this challenge easy for you.

Great idea for a challenge. Bench press is the obvious way to go. Deadlift and squat require you to also lift the weight plus your body weight through a larger range of motion. They should only be used to rest your upper body for more bench press.
I love all your ideas for your vids. You are such a great entertaining guy. I would love to be your friend ahha🙏😂

I’m going to try this. Gonna do 175 lbs and do 10 reps bench, deadlift, squat, in that order. Should be about 90 seconds work / 90 seconds rest and 19 sets total. I just don’t know how I would video it. I think 19 sets for each of those respective lifts is pretty obtainable… triple setted though with the time restricted rest will be a big challenge
Only 3 rules for Type II fun:
1. Rhab
2. Domy
3. Olysis
7:36...deadlifts took a toll on his back...maybe because every rep was with a rounded back. brutal.
Thought it was just at the end when he was tired. But yes, he did start that way.
@@michaelescobar3746 in hoping he reads this and others learn - he doesn't have the mobility to conventional deadlift (and/or the body awareness) who are all these people around him not correcting his form...I'd be SCREAMING at him at the first rounded back rep I saw.
I'd move him to a sumo deadlift (lowers hips, uprights spine for tall or tight people) or elevate bar onto plates (bringing bar up to his range). He will blow two discs BAM when he tries the 500lb DL.
He'll also film it straight on, so the world doesn't see his snap back - as with all prior other big deadlift videos previous.
The real fitness pro's see right through this madness.
@@FlippedSociety Yeah the first guy to pull 900 lbs always had a straight back... Wait he rounded every time.
